Reviews of Jade City Chinese Restaurant
R. K.
This restaurant is located on 1st floor but its worthy to make some steps to find decent, authentic Chinese food with good service. Big menu with lot of options but dim sum menu is available only from 12 - 5.30 pm.
Hot and sour soup smashing, fried rice to die for and dim sum starter platter fantastic.
All food we tried were tasty and fresh.
Edit 02/2022: we came back for Dim Sum menu and it was fantastic !!!
L. O.
We have been going for meals here for over 30 years. We have never been disappointed. The building its self and the decor is in dire need of repairs. But with this restaurent we are always willing to over look the slight roughness of the room. There are always plenty of customers there, and mostly of the Chinese community. The food is always fresh and delicious, and not too salty like alot of other Chinese restaurent foods. Definatley worth a trip.

It would seem the China Town closes early on a Sunday
So after trying 2 other places we went here
We was told that the food would all come together as it was nearly closing time but we could eat.
So after ordering wine we picked are meals, starter and main.
The pawn toast was amazing
Hot and tasty
We did get the mains then and are other starter came after.
Food was good though and not expensive
Try it but go early
J. L.
It was okay - the noodles had a lot of cornstarch in the sauce and the duck was a bit too salty. The noodles were falling apart which meant they were over cooked. Good sized portions.
H. F.
Service were very quick and friendly. The food was gorgeous. We tucked into dim sum and soup for a quick lunch. It was delicious and authentic!
My only complaint would be the bathrooms. These were up some stairs so not entirely accessible. They were also dated and not completely clean. I think these bathrooms need a quick revamp! Lick of paint, maybe some new sinks/doors and a good scrub. Other than that, a lovely place to dine for the whole family!
S. C.
Amazing as always. Went on a Sunday for dimsum but also got the pork noodles and Peking duck. Cannot fault anything, also the service was great! Can't wait to come back 😊
N. S.
My parents' favourite for dim sum when they come to visit us in Manchester. We usually walk there as parking is expensive in city centre / Chinatown. Friendly service and the food is in decent portion at reasonable price. Highly recommended for dim sum in city centre.
M. W.
The staff was friendly x
I very much like crab and sweetcorn soup. Char siu pork was meaty

We've been going to Pearl City for over 30 years...Sadly Lockdown put Pearl City out of business.
But this place we discovered is even better, recommended by the local Cantonese community.
This place was packed out with many Hong Kong people themselves...Always a good sign.
We are instant new fans of Jade City....My younger brother from Kensington in the picture also gave it a fumbs up.
He was over here filming The Manchester United V Manchester City for Sky Sports TV at old Trafford.
He is a globe trotting restaurant expert.
We enjoyed & will call again.

First time I've visited China Town in Manchester. Glad we chose this restaurant, Very tasty food and all cooked how I would expect, decor is a bit dated and reminded me of by-gone years but forget about this and enjoy the food, the staff were really helpful, nice and attentive. If you're out for Chinese food in Manchester I would definitely recommend a visit here.
K.
Dim Sum was delicious! Would definitely go again.
E. T.
Went there with 6 of my friends and were very satisfied with the pricing and the quality of the food! The only downside of the dimsum restaurant was the service… they were slightly reluctant to give us the 10% student discount (if you pay all in cash) as they were rude to us when we asked about it. Other than that, it was excellent!
B. T.
A great experience. This was my third time to this place. A large variety is available, the taste is great and the service awesome. Went there with two friends from China and they like the food as well. Love the custard buns. Fried or steamed. Some of the pork dishes are great. We always get conjee, chicken feet and custard buns. Worth a visit....
N. B.
Lovely food served by great staff. The staff couldn't of been nicer and the food was probably one of the nicest I've had in a long time.
T. W.
Parked up in Chinatown in the rain and into an empty Jade City, well it was almost 4.00 in the afternoon.
CoVid T&T scan at the door and posters across the walls so it's hard to miss. Plenty of space between tables, all the staff in type 2 masks and plenty of sanitizer stations. Check.
A pot of Chinese tea, bowls, chopsticks and side plates and we're ready. I throw myself on the wisdom of the server to fill our table with treats.
Char siu pork buns.
Beef and ginger dumplings.
Pork and prawn dumplings.
Roast duck, char siu pork and pork belly platter.
Mixed dim sum platter with more beef and ginger dumplings and more pork and prawn plus spring rolls, seaweed, crispy wonton.
Dee-lish.
L. C.
Lovely food, decent service. Get there early as very very busy. Took an hour to be seated but it was worth it.
C. M.
Yum cha at it’s best.
Don’t let the fact that you might be the only non-Cantonese speaker here put you off. They also extend a warm welcome to Mandarin and Hokkien speakers. The fact that they do such bustling business is indicated by the fact that they’ve not seemed to have written an English menu.
Now I stuck with my tried and tested orders.
The Xiao Long Bau was good but not a patch on Din Tai Fung’s (sigh).
Although duck’s feet were available, I heeded my server’s advice and stuck with the humble chicken. I’ve been hooked on these ever since I tried them at Maxims.
The cheung fun did not disintegrate, which is a common complaint. I opted for a crispy filling this time.
In short, it’s never a question of ‘Should we yum cha’ but really ‘Where should we yum cha?’
To which the answer is now Jade Garden.
PS please excuse my talk of drinking tea but not mentioning it at all. I was too busy scoffing the Dim Sum.
A. H.
The chef is such a friendly guy. Thank you for making our experience a enjoyable one today. The food is amazing here. You won't be disappointed. 😊
C.
Really tasty food! We came here yesterday evening for dinner and ordered a few dishes, DELICIOUS! Next time when I am back in Manchester, I will definitely try the dimsum. Everything was spot on!! The service is great (hard working) and the food was just very tasty and delicious. No words for it. Thank you and see you soon again.
D. Y.
Food: fresh texture and flavours; roast duck was fresh, juicy, perfectly seasoned.
Service: Friendly, personable, and attentive.
Price: five mains (half duck, half chicken, monkfish clay pot and two veg) rice and tea all for under £70.00 and so fresh.
Atmosphere: well lit, clean, white walls and mirrors, clear statement of their commitment to their cleanliness. Washrooms also very clean and evidence of regularly scheduled cleaning.
I have been coming here for their excellent dim sum, which offers the widest variety at excellent quality available in Manchester Chinatown. This is the first time having an evening meal with family here, the experience was so good that we will most certainly be back.
W. W. U. H.
Really Hong Kong style yum chai 👍🏻👍🏻 great service and food
R. S.
Absolutely amazing experience. We where just visiting Manchester to watch the football. We arrived in China town looking for some authentic Chinese food. The outside of the restaurant is very low-key but this does not reflect the standard of the inside of the restaurant. We where greeted by very attentive staff who sat us down very quickly. The waiters came over and immediately took our drink order. I ordered a whole duck which I was sharing with my friend. I asked them to cut it in half, but on arrival of the dish the kind waiter shedded the whole duck infront of us. Amazing service!! Im not a regular in Manchester but I will come back here!!!非常感谢
J. S.
As someone with a disability i give this review. So the restaurant is up some stairs so not level accses. It was busy but not very busy, plenty of staff, food was good, tasty, a tad more expensive than we where use to but its Manchester not our own smaller home town, i asked about a disabled toilet which there was but it was as with most restaurants full of cleaning products and machines, floor was not at all clean sum up would i return No
G. L.
Brilliant food, brilliant service, brilliant value. The whole roast duck is the best 18 quid you can spend. Succulent AF.
D. W.
It’s a okay Chinese restaurant in Manchester China Town. No wow and no complaints. Fair standard in Manchester City centre. If they can restore the lift, it would be nicer and more convenient to the elderly customers who always visit.
A.
The staff is always so nice and the food is very nice. This are beef with chestnuts and a rice with shrimps, tomatoe and chicken.
m. m.
Recently ate here in the evening and was so impressed I went back for a lunch time to eat some dim sum. 2 very different experiences in a way. In the evening, when we went to eat (at about 6pm on Friday), the place was barely half full. On a Monday lunchtime the place was heaving! Their dim sum is obviously a huge word of mouth success. They were really tasty and interesting and very good value. My son and I had 5 plates of dim sum between us and a pot of tea. The price was about £20. You can only get the full dim sum menu in the afternoon. Interestingly, I would say about 95 % of the clientele appeared to be Chinese. Which says alot about the authenticity, quality and sheer good value of the food on offer.
T. W.
Top notch on the variety of food selections. Customer service 100%. Food comes out piping hot. Definitely highly recommend
B. B.
Really nice and relaxing restaurant with excellent food and friendly staff. A great and varied of menu of dishes - something to suit everyone. Give it a go and you'll certainly return again and again.
A. P.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant and the food is absolutely fantastic and the staff are really nice and kind I highly recommend jade city
J. R.
Awesome, Dim Sum were amazing!!
v. c.
Good food, but pet is not allowed
L.
I'd highly recommend this place for a decent dim sum & roast meats. Whenever I'm in Manchester Chinatown this is my go to place. Fresh food & good service.
Valued for money. Very reasonable priced. Most importantly everything was very tasty.
S. L.
Good service but let down by food
The staff were attentive and friendly.
The dim sum variety and taste was average.
The three roasties rice dish came in a smaller circular dish rather than a larger oval dish that I'm used to.
The portion of roast duck we got was just skin and bones. Really disappointing!
The entrance didn't look very clean.
Decor was minimal effort.
Y.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Based on the food I highly recommend. However, be prepared to wait for the attention of the waiters because it is almost always busy.
C. O.
We first ate here in 2019 after attending the university's open day. Now two years later during another visit to Manchester we searched out Jade City again and I'm glad we did!
The food and service was just as we remembered, top notch, we most certainly will be back.
S.
Busy, but we got a table, food was average but not hugely over priced. Okay but would not go back.
p. y. F.
For me, I think is not that expensive but is better to provide a bowl for people to pour the washed tea.
H. J.
My niece and I had a fantastic lunch, went through all the steamed Dim sum, had to move to a larger table to accommodate our feast 😋😂
J. C.
All round brilliant meal. Really friendly staff who managed to get us a table despite being fully booked on a Saturday night. Food was top tier. Would highly reccomend.
M.
Service was good, quality of food was spot on. Faultless place. Worth going.
Wide selection of food to choose from within the menu.
M. B.
The food was great. As first time there could of done with them explaining the menu
C. S. L.
Really Enjoyed This Dimsum's Restaurant 👍👍👍
G. C.
Great restaurant in the heart of Chinatown, staff very welcoming, when we went they were only serving main meals but that suited us, well priced and I’d recommend the sizzling steak in OK sauce
t.
Nice and clean restaurant but only 1 brand of beer (tiger).
All the food are pretty decent but some of dim sum menus are not available.
s. r.
We have now been 3 times overall and every time has been great.
The staff are always lovely, they have a lot of regular customers which the staff always seem to enjoy talking to.
Our food has always been hot and delicious. Never chose a bad dish yet but then if you don’t know what your ordering then you may want to ask or google some dishes first to see if it’s something you will like.
Definitely worth a visit and look forward to returning,
Simon

A hidden gem. Chef used to work at Happy Seasons and if you know your Chinese food then you will know what a feat that is. Family run business.
Had salt n pepper squid, seafood chowmein, Har Kau, egg fried rice, scallops in ginger.
Everything is outstanding and will be going here from now on.
A. L.
What a duck!!! What a beef!! Delicious and not expensive at the same time!! We recommend you strongly Jade City if you like fantastic Chinese food,
A. M.
I was there on a night out with my friends. Food wasn't bad but also not delicious. Almost no one finished the soup. The staff also didn't care about the mess on the tables. For me this is unacceptable. I go to the restaurant and want to feel comfortable. Well, I didn't. Also one important note for the restaurant: If you want to give not finished food in the boxes after dinner, please don't mix everyone's plates and food on one plate. No one will take it later. Honestly, in my opinion there are better Chinese restaurants in Manchester.
J. A.
Not the best but Its ok, depends on what day you go!
D. W.
Food was okay... The place was like a school canteen... Won't be going again... The guy that served us needs customer service lessons... Very abrupt...
L. D.
Great atmosphere. Great staff. Great food. Will be coming again
M. A.
Amazing roast duck
P. L. L.
Delicious dim sum, good portions and good quality. Only small issue is lack of lift facilities for the elderly or pram users.
a.
I’ve been here twice. The place is so beautiful and the customer service is great! The waitress were always smiling and checking up on us, there was one waitress that we had a full conversation with, she was so charming and nice. The food is so lovely, I went with my family (their first time in Jade City) and they couldn’t get enough. I recommend it, 10/10!
P. L.
They are one of the few Chinese restaurants who is able to maintain those Chinese meals in a genuine and high quality standard under the shortage of staffs condition.
L. E.
A group of six of us visited this weekend. The host was such a wonderful lady and we asked her to order for us. The food was outstanding, we all agreed it was the best Chinese food ever!
Great service, really well priced and superb food. Well worth a visit.
H. W.
very nice, it deserves the quite long queuing time.
J. T.
We got three roast meats (soy sauce chicken, char siu, roast pork belly). The taste is incredible and the moisture was great, not dry at all. I'd highly recommend the food here.
S. N.
Reasonable price but it takes too long to serve the food. Regarding the quality I would give 3 star. It's not bad but not high end list compare with the like of Glamorous restaurant. Money wise and portions are plentiful so worth visiting and make up your own verdict.
S. S.
Excellent food. Lovely staff! Roast duck and pork belly gorgeous.
R. H.
I have visited numerous times and the food is always great. The roast meats are delicious, as is the dim sum.
The staff members are helpful and recommended some excellent dishes to compliment the dishes we had ordered.
R. C.
Good quick service and great food! we had some dim sum, some sweet and sour and half a duck. all were really tasty and we were super full! if definitely go back.
K. L.
Food was amazing! The staff on the other hand were not. One of them was continuously talking while another was disruptive and loud. She seemed like she was always in a hurry and repeatedly banged things into out table including chairs and other tables. Overall good food but mediocre staff.
J. M.
Long wait times however food is ok.
M. B.
The food was good, but the toilets were truly filthy and some of the staff were extremely rude..
H. Y.
The staffs really nice ,good service
S. S.
This relatively big Chinese restaurant is neatly tucked away on the second floor of one of the streets in Manchester's China town. We were in China Town on Chinese Newyear day looking for a place to sit and eat. As expected it was an extremely busy day. However, we had to wait for around 15 mins to get a table for 3 at Jade City. Inspite of the crowd, the food that we ordered came quite fast. The quality and quantity was on par with anyother good chinese restaurant.
The bill came with a 10% service charge included. I was not sure if it was optional or mandatory. So ended up paying it either way.
D. M.
Fantastic and authentic food. Pork dish was exactly like what I had in Hong Kong, full of flavour
L. T.
I went there a few times when I visited my friend in Manchester. People working there are very friendly. The food is absolutely delicious and the place is a very comfortable place to sit and enjoy a meal with friends. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. I will definitely go again. (Translated) Some time ago, the price was greatly increased, and the vegetarian dishes were directly increased by £3, and there was no student discount.
The dim sum tastes pretty good. I ordered the rice rolls twice and it didn't taste good, which is much worse than the ones in Guangzhou. If you mainly want to eat siu mei, it is recommended to go directly to the Café.
Almost every day when the door opens, it is recommended to wait at 11:45 for morning tea/lunch.

点心味道都还不错,肠粉点过两次都感觉不好吃,和广州的差得多。如果主要是想吃烧味建议直接去大家乐。

(Translated) The service was very good, and the response was quick when asked to add water. The barbecued pork is wrapped in oyster sauce and the siu mai tastes normal, and the top of pickled cabbage and duck shredded tommy is very fragrant. I think the siu-mei and fried noodles are done well, but the "master" is more important, and a few mouthfuls are dry after eating.
