Reviews of Phetpailin Thai Restaurant
M. W.
As an Asian myself, I’m very picky and wary about Asian food outside of Asia, I often find them unauthentic and a bit bland but definitely not this restaurant. I have been here many times and the food has never disappointed me. Green curry here tastes better than most of Thai restaurants I have been to in Asia and in the UK, has such a deep flavour in it. Mixed starters are delicious with proper Asian dipping sauce.
The members of staff are nice and friendly, especially May, I like her, she’s such an enthusiastic waitress. I will always come back and introduce this restaurant to all of my friends xx

Just arrived from London, trying to find somewhere to eat. They managed to squeeze us in, but told us to have an hour (until 10pm since they close at the time) to finish eating. We rushed but they were still serving food at 10pm so don’t quite understand why we were rushed. Food was very good and non alcoholic coctails were delicious.

Delicious food!
The food arrived hot and fresh to the table and was divine.
They have large portions which is great value for money
And the stand out started has to be the ribs, the flavour and texture was incredible definitely will be back for more.
One of the best Thai restaurants in Manchester!
D. L.
The best Thai place in Manchester and I've tried them all. Authentic and such tasty Thai food with great service and big portions. They take card and it's bring your own booze!
S. W.
Food is of a consistently high standard, and the staff are friendly and efficient. The red and green curries in particular are extremely delicious. Prices reasonable as well, my favourite Thai restaurant in Manchester.
A. K.
Amazing and seemingly a hidden gem in Manchester. The rice here is genuinely outstanding I'm thinking about it weeks on. If you are considering going then just go you won't regret it. Staff are excellent, attentive and friendly.
K. M.
If I were to describe the food here it would be: Ambrosial
This has to be by far the most delectable place to eat in the whole of Manchester. The staff are very friendly and will always make sure you’re attended to. The food gives off a mouthwatering aroma as you eat it. Which heavily complement the sensation which you experience on your taste buds.
I ordered the Gung (prawn) Shu Shi and believe me when I tell you they were more than generous with the amount of prawns you get. The prawns taste very fresh as they easily fall apart in your mouth as you chew. The accompanying sauce/stew is excellently prepared with just enough kick to keep you eating without sacrificing any spice or heat as they prepare it to your spice/heat capability.
I also ordered the tamarind duck, I usually go for a basic duck in plum sauce but thought I’d try this. To my surprise , this is my new favorite way to have duck and don’t think I’ll have duck in plum sauce again for a while . It was perfectly cooked as it just melted in a your mouth. I was also provided with a generous portion ( I only put half of the duck in the bowl since there was so much)

We went for our wedding anniversary meal and the food was amazing, being from Thailand myself this was a proper authentic taste of Thailand.
Also excellent service , would highly recommend.

Good foods and very hard work employee. It was very busy on Christmas day. Many restaurants are closed but not here. Feel bad they didn't have enough employees to take a order, clean the tables and serve. I wanted to offer to help! It's took 30mins till we got a food but server apologized for the delay. Pad Thai has good flavor. Fish cake was hot and tasty. Highly recommend !
M. R.
Amazing. A few of us dropped in late on a Saturday and luckily they had space. The fish cakes and the paneng beef curry were excellent. A good spicy kick too. The staff were lovely too. Everyone I was with loved the food too. Can't believe it has taken me so long to find out about this place. Definitely coming back.
D. C.
No alcohol license. BYOB
The food and service were fine. Be wary of the spicy options, they pack a punch.
A. L.
A fairly small restaurant that was very busy so do book if you're thinking of visiting during usual meal times. Ambiance was nice, cosy and relaxing. Staff were ever so polite and friendly. Good selection of food and slightly different from other Thai restaurants. I had the mixed starter which was okay; the chicken satay was tough and not as flavourful as elsewhere. My mains (pla rad prik - deep fried fish in spicy sauce) blew my taste buds away! Just ticked every box that I had for a great Thai dish; sweet, crazy spicy and just wow. My friends' panaeng curry and sweet and sour chicken dishes was just OK. Still worth a visit though if you've been to every other Thai restaurant in Manchester.

My first meal at Phetpailin was seven years ago, during my initial trip to Manchester. Upon entering the restaurant, I was immediately enamored with the warm, inviting atmosphere. Additionally, I found their food and service to be simply top-notch.
My staple is the spring roll starter and chicken pad Thai. Their green curry chicken with coconut rice and duck entrees are first-rate, as well. The dishes I've savored here have been of the utmost freshness, layered in taste, and excellent in value.
As a flight crew member of a US carrier, I have had the privilege to return to Phetpailin frequently through the years. Over time I became somewhat of a regular, though living in Chicago. Yes, they really are that good! But perhaps most telling and at the heart of it all, is an experience I had a couple of years ago.
I made an online reservation at 6 pm for dinner. That evening as I neared the restaurant, I recognized Ben, the owner and chef, on his mobile. He told me there was a problem with a WC, so the eatery would remain closed for the night. But, Ben went on to say, he noticed my online reservation and wanted me to have dinner. I was invited to go upstairs, where I was greeted by a member of Ben's staff. As I entered the restaurant, the door was closed and locked behind me. I was shown to my favorite table, while my dinner was prepared and served. As I ate that evening, being the sole customer in the restaurant, I was dumbstruck by this extraordinary level of customer service, generosity, and kindness. From that point forward, Phetpailin was the ONLY restaurant in Manchester, as far as I was concerned.
A couple of years ago, the airline I work for stopped flying nonstop to Manchester from Chicago. As a result, I'm long overdue for a visit.
With sheltering-in-place orders still in effect during the pandemic, I've had time and space to reflect on things that matter most. With good health topping the list, the pleasure and comfort of great food and good people come in just behind it. In my experience, Phetpailin has both to offer in aces.
Thank you for the many delicious meals and wonderful memories. With love to Manchester and Phetpailin from your friend across the pond.

Definitely worthy to try. Superb service and delicious dishes.
J. W.
Lovely authentic food and great staff. I’ll be back. Thank you! 🍚🍛🇹🇭
G. L.
Great authentic thai food. Reasonably priced and you can bring your own alcohol. Well worth it.
The staff are very friendly and one of the waiters, Chanon (apologies if I've spent that wrong) is always especially nice, polite and attentive.
A. D.
Nice Thai restaurant in the Manchester China Town. Run by a family. Do not serve alcohol. Taste was good. Service quick and efficient
M. a.
Grilled chicken is good, prices are appropriate. It is hard to see the restaurant from the street, you have to use the stairs to get in. Very friendly staff.
M. S.
As a thai local , I would say the taste was not as great as I expected in a thai restaurant, doesn't really kick the taste bud - but the ingredients are great. Apart from that everything was nice, clean place, friendly staff, good atmosphere, and the food portion is great with the price you pay. BYOB for this place.
k. c.
Real Thai Food and The best Thai Restaurant! I am a Thai Tutor based in in Manchester,I have tried many Thai restaurants and I know this one is my favourite!
N. 8.
Good atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and authentic tasty Thai food. Definitely go again and would recommend.
j. w.

was really nice and authentic
took me back to thailand
will be going again
A. S.
We had a early lunch at this place, the restaurant is not yet open, but the owner allowed us to come in, the staff is very friendly, the food is very delicious, hope you guys open your store here in Indonesia
G. A.
Great flavour with a very good ratio price/quality/quantity. I had some starters and a red curry.
C. E.
Amazing food! Super nice service! A bit difficult to find using google maps. Go there!!!
J. C.
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Phetpailin! The food was gorgeous, the service was very attentive and the staff very lovely, and the atmosphere was also great. Very reasonably priced and great that you can bring your own alcohol. Would 100% recommend and will be coming back! xx
B. R.
Now that was exceptional.
Delicious food and the staff are all so polite. Thanks so much.
L. W.
Had an amazIng meal here!!so tasty and the service is fantastic! Was about £20 per head with starters and mains which is great value with how lovely the food was. Love that you can bring your own wine. Thanks Phetpailin team, I shall be returning very soon!!
P.
I love the food here. Staff are always nice and the place itself is an oasis of calm in the city centre.
R. G.
Very helpful staff, you can’t buy alcoholic drinks here although you can take your own.
The food was excellent with very generous helpings.
Took a long time to get the bill.
N. W.
3rd time here and it didn't disappoint. Amazing food and byob. Good value and very authentic. Fresh tasting also. Will be back again!
K. J.
Great food, I had pad thai, extremely tasty and large portions. Excellent service, very quick and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend this restaurant
E. M.
Amazing, amazing food! Best penang and green curry I've had outside of Thailand! The pork ribs to start are also incredible. We recently tried the Tilapia fish with red curry sauce which was equally amazing. Spicy drunken noodles with chicken are also a win! Staff are amazing and the food just tastes really authentic. Support local businesses in lockdown and order from here - its truly exquisite. We've been coming here for over 8 years.

Small restaurant in Manchester city center. Delicious thai food!
T. O.
lovely food and it's BYOB!
S. S.
While I don’t seem to have much luck when it comes to ordering takeaways (wrong/missing food, cold, took ages to arrive, not great tasting etc.), the experience with Phetpailin was great!
The food arrived on time and still piping hot (thanks Uber Eats) and oh my LAWD, the everything tasted great.
I was far too hungry to remember to take any pictures, but the Thai Fishcakes (although a little on the small side) are so good as are the Paper Prawns and Spring Rolls. The spice level of the Pad Khee Mao Stir Fry was perfect, the chicken was tender and juicy and paired amazingly with the coconut rice.
Absolutely would order from them again and would highly recommend. (Plus I still have LOADS leftover which I’m looking forward to gorging on tomorrow).
C. G.
Absolutely love this little gem! Always take my folks in when they travel up and we're never disappointed. Added bonus of being able to take your own drinks in as well without paying corkage. Great food, staff and lovely authentic venue. I honestly think a lot of new venues could learn a lot from this gem. Thanks Phetpailin!
A. T.
Food was nice and waiters were kind
S. P.
Best Thai food in Manchester. Friendly staff and great service. This place DOES NOT sell alcohol but are fine for you to bring your own beer, wine, or spirits. If you bring spirits, you'll be expected to purchase the mixer from the restaurant...they will provide glasses/ice...no corkage fee either. You'll need to make a reservation as it's normally busy!
C. B.
The food is amazing. Can't compare to real Thai as I have never been but the ingredients are fresh, it tastes amazing, it's not greasy in the slightest, generous quantities I love it. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Have been a lot now. It's like eating in someone's dining room whose mum is an amazing cook. Will keep going back again and again. A hidden gem. If you are debating about it, don't. Go.
K. E.
Loved it! Great vegetarian options, huge portions and not expensive. BYOB too if you fancy a few drinks. Staff wore visors and there was plenty of hand sanitiser.
R. S.
The best Thai restaurant in Manchester if not the UK. No fancy takes or Western influences, just pure authentic Thai food. Closest to the flavours of actual Thai food although some dishes are a bit sweet to cater to Western palates. Service is friendly and atmosphere relaxed.
S. R.
I was recommended to try this restaurant. The food was really good. Friendly staff. One of the better Thai restaurants I’ve been to this year. Somewhere different to try other than you chains for Italian. Was busy so others must also enjoy going. However it is a bit cold so wear a jumper in the winter. If you don’t know where to go it’s fairly hard to find tried to use google maps. And it made us go round and end up the another street when we didn’t need to.
E. T.
I call this excellent restaurant many times because I enjoy the ambiance that is exist in this restaurant. The crew is awfuly helpful and professional. The service is pretty fast. Not to mention, the food you get is perfect. I frequent often and I was always joyful. The payment is modest. I recommend this place to to all.
C. M.
Great food, fantastic staff! Overall, fantastic experience 👌
J. W.
Been here a few times now and the food has been excellent. One thing I would say is, the weeping tiger steak is really nicely cooked however, the coriander is rather unbearable and overpowering, which was a shame. None the less, great meal and great service! See you soon.
K. S.
Had an amazing meal. Food was really good compared to others in the area. Service was great.
T. k.
Absolutely delicious and easily exceeded my expectations. The lunch menu is very good value both quantity and quality wise, and paired with the great service just meant a great little lunch experience. Definitely recommend
P. W.
Even if we were in Manchester only twice for a short time (2011, 2012), we ate here 3 times. Yes, it'd be a good idea to try out other restaurants too. But it tasted really good, so we got stuck here in a positive way.
Even after three times trying out different menus we were still convinced about the quality. So this one really is recommended.
G.
Really good Penang curry and ribs!
A. F.
Great food. Very friendly and efficient service
M. H.
Excellent meal, staff exceptional, lovely restaurant. Will definately visit again soon.
K. K.
Bit of an odd place (and it's BYO - be warned!), but some of the dishes are outstandingly good. The punch of fragrance in the Penang curry is wonderful. Good, friendly and attentive service.
e. e.
Nice meals for Thailand. But space only 80 persons maxim
S. D. (. L. o. S.
Starter's were pretty standard affairs of spring rolls and prawns, but mains were stunning, I could have quite happily eaten the rice sides as a meal in themselves. Friendly service in functional and not particularly grand surroundings. But the mains were stand out, can't wait to go back!
V. A.
Really nice restaurant. We ordered a pad thai to share alongside chicken sateh and coconut rice and it was delicious. Strongly recommend it.
A. J.
Fantastic flavour to all dishes ordered. Quick and friendly service but no rushing. No corkage for byob. £8 two course lunch. Awesome... Closes between lunch and dinner mind!
S. W.
Be advised: BYOB (Bring Your Own Beer, and other alcoholic beverages). Which could be considered a pro as well as a con :-). I liked the place a lot. Really tasty food. Not a very luxurious setting, but we had a great time with a larger group.
A. B.
Authentic experience with kind staff and good service, but average food (especially considering the Google reviews which suggest much more). BYOB works well, with supermarket close by. Lively atmosphere, and full of people st around 2100 on a Friday
M. S.
Very good attentive service and lovely food
K. F.
Advertised as a Thai restaurant but food is more Chinese than Thai. Was quite disappointed in that respect.
V. W.
Very reasonably priced small friendly restaurant. A hidden gem in central Manchester. There's no license so you have to bring your own drinks, which is really a plus since you get a better choice and pay less. The food is delicious and the staff are great.
K. T.
Authentic (meaning very spicy). Highly recommend the jungle curry. Small inside so may need to book as there was one large group of people who took up most of the restaurant!
V. K.
Fun and rowdy environment with the BYOB policy (no corkage fee). Everyone was boozin' hard! Food was well cooked against other UK asian comparables but portions are on the small side. We had the Pad Thai Jay and Green Curry, the latter having a good amount of heat to it. Would go back in the future.
V. V.
One fantastic cuisine and even great service, we'll be come back
G. c.
The service was excellent but as for the fish cakes... I thought I was eating a mini oriental macdonalds burger. But watch out they charge for soft drinks but love it how you can bring your own booze
C. L.
I love the food because it is very authentic. Service is fab. Prices are reasonable and u can bring your own booze.
B. S. D.
Dont be put off by the cheap prices, i can't stop going here its so good! Every dish ive tried has been wonderful. Service always includes a smile even at busy times. The bring your own booze policy just adds icing to the already well prepared cake.
T. J.
This place is excellent. There is an atmosphere of care. They offer good food deals in the day time. It's romantic. Just great value for money. The food is authentic.
C. G.
Great, authentic, Thai food at a good price. Bring your own booze with no corkage charge, too! My favourite Thai in Manchester.
R. H.
Tucked away in the middle of China town is this quaint authentic Thai restaurant. There really is no other in the city centre that compares. The food (as all other reviews have already stated) is fresh and delicious. I'd highly recommend the Gai Pad Med Ma Muang - I was feeling adventurous on my last visit and now have a new favourite! The fact that it is take your own alcohol saves on the pocket too, and as everything is so reasonably priced you don't end up spending much.
A. S.
Small thai restaurant in the middle of chinatown which has some very tasty meals. Went here for my birthday with a few friends so was able to sample a few different dishes. The starter ribs were very tasty. I went for the garlic and holy basil squid which was very, very hot but thats how I like it. Panang curry was delicious and creamy. Reasonably priced and bring your own booze too!
M. T.
The food is regularly fresh and tasty, workers provides good service. I really like the cleanliness and vibes. Will come back again.
S. C.
Disappointing shared starter of spring rolls, prawn toast, chicken satay etc was followed up by a good main. The bring your own booze policy means the bill is always very cheap and therefore good value for money.
L. H.
The food is constantly fresh and delicious, staff members hands out great service. I really like how clean it is and ambience. Will visit here again.
A. M.
As a new Thai food enthusiast, this place is a must. Next to the strip club you would barely notice that this existed, but venture up the stairs and into a small, cosy room this place is a real gem. Bring your own booze - making it very kind on the bank, cafe-style atmosphere, service with a smile and incredibly tasty food, you HAVE to go here.
My recommendations:
The chicken with cashews, chicken penaeng or pad thai.
Weekdays you can walk in, however I recommend booking for any weekend day.
K. A.
I have eaten here every time I've come to Manchester on business. Food is great especially the Phad Thai. Good sized portions so you won't leave hungry. Always served with a smile. Great value.
A. J.
Lovely food and friendly helpful staff. Bring your own booze so it works out very cheap as well! Just don't bring your own soft drinks (they don't like that)
S. H.
Soo tasty, not too expensive considering the quality of the food. 4 of us went and paid roughly £15 each for mains and drinks. You can however take your own drinks.
N. H.
Nice little bistro style place. Their curries seem to be very good, some quite spicy. Take your own alcohol if you need it!
J. G.
Excellent Thai food.
H. G.
Great food, friendly staff
E. F.
Excellent food and good service. Bring your own wine was nice to keep the price down and the final bill was extremely reasonable. Will be visiting again.
A. U.
Very friendly staff and really nice food . Shame there was one bloke that kept talking about Brexit. (A customer ) good evening out though. Thanks for turning the music up.
L. D.
Well worth a trip up to this spot. There are some other good Thai restaurants in Manchester, but this is as close to authentic Thai as it gets. Will be bringing friends and family back here.
M. S.
Really good thai food. Without doubt the best in the area. Their red curry is superb. Friendly staff too. Definitely recommend!
V. I. M.
Good Thai food and good service and friendly staff . You can bring your own wine and beer and no corkage fee.
K. C.
Fun atmosphere! Food abit over priced, portions were abit small but delicious. I’m happy with the no corking fee for byob!
J. A.
We actually went in accidentally intending to go to the other place. However, having said that we really enjoyed the food and the service. So a happy accident and would return when we have to chance.
C. J.
Excellent customer service, great tasting food!
M. F.
BYO and great, quick service. Nothing fancy but possibly the best thai green curry I've ever had.
L. -. (.
Awesome Thai food fantastic customer service and prices very very good cannot fault. Take your family you will love it😊🙏
D. M.
Excellent and well-priced Thai food and lovely ambience. Will definitely be going again :)
L. B.
I came in at 2pm to have lunch. But it was closed early. As I was leaving to go to another restaurant a worker was leaving and said they wanted to leave early. For a customer experience point of view, that doesn’t show a dependable place to go to if they can’t commit to their open times.
G. B.
Always have a great meal in here! The food is authentic and delicious, and the staff are friendly and accommodating.
M. O.
The food is quite good and it is best if you share a meal so you can try different dishes in a lower price
C. P.
The best bring your own bottle Thai restaurant you could ever imagine with a really great selection of vegan and vegetarian options and a relaxed atmosphere.
G. S.
Visited twice in last month. The food is the best ive had in a long time. The staff are so friendly..Be sure to book as gets busy from 6pm and take in your own drinks, they even open your bottles for you.

(Translated) Great food and atmosphere, the concept of bring your own bottle is great, it's worth booking a table in advance.

(Translated) Delicious!! Recommend this restaurant.
Tried Tom Yam Kung and Nuea Pad Khee Mao and both were very delicious. Especially Nuea Pad Khee Mao(with 3 red pepper marks) was very spicy even for me, so if you really like spicy foods, here we go, I recommend you to try it.
Remarks: they don't sell alcoholic drinks since they don't have the license. But they allow you to bring your own alcoholic drinks. (Advantage?? Cuz Costs cheaper??)
(I don't write a review because it's annoying for some reason)
ㅎㅎ recommended!! Delicious!!
I tried Tom Yum Koong and Nuea Pad Khee Mao (three red pepper marks) and it's delicious
Nuea Pad Khee Mao was especially spicy for me too ㅎㅎ Try if you're too spicy!!
One peculiar thing is, alcohol is not available. I don't have a license. Dan allows you to eat alcohol brought outside. (Rather cheap and good??

Nuea Pad Khee Mao
