Reviews of Street Urchin

I wouldn’t be able to fully state how much we enjoy every visit here. I believe we have eaten here about 5 times now. Every single visit the menu have been refreshed and compliments to the chef! It’s truly inspirational to see the constant invention happening within that little open kitchen.
The service is always impressive. Friendly, quick, full awareness of every tables needs. The ease of the email booking is personal and smooth.
And most importantly the food! It’s exactly what it needs to be. The setting, flavours & portion sizes always leave me feeling content & happy! Just an absolutely wonderful restaurant that Manchester should be proud to have. If I can eat the Manchester money bags at least once a month for the rest of my life it would have been a good life!

A pleasingly complex and regularly evolving menu. We had fallow deer carpachio with blackberries as a shared starter. Absolutely delicious. Then trout and prawn in filo which was great. Excellent wine list. Friendly staff who know their stuff. Has a really good neighbourhood feel and a menu that makes you want to keep coming back.

Great food and service. I 100% recommend eating here. Also, get the Manchester Moneybags, it's a desert and it is AMAZING! Like my favourite dish out of the lot... and I did order a lot, I would literally go back just for the desert it was absolute 🔥. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had an incredible meal at @st_urchin on Wednesday evening, to celebrate my partners birthday.
To start:
Pyefleet Pure Rock Oysters, with lemon, rock salt and shallot vinegar…a dash of Tabasco too. My first time trying oysters and they were little magical flavoursome morsels!
Welk & Crayfish Cigars with pickled ginger and seaweed mayonnaise - delicious seafood spring rolls basically 😋
Pigeon Saltimbocca with beetroot & pear salad with a walnut pesto. This dish was INCREDIBLE full of flavour that packed a punch.
Mains:
Creamy Smoked Haddock Chowder, Clams, Coley & Leeks with Crispy Crab Beignets! An incredibly delicious and rich dish…all the flavours and textures transported me to San Francisco!
Whole Grilled Bream with almond butter, olives, pickled grape salad and fries. This was a mammoth of a dish and super tender fish fully seasoned and the sweetness of the grape was fantastic. The fries were also INCREDIBLE! Dipped in the chowder? Of course *chefs kiss*
Pudd: Manchester Moneybags…basically an inventive way of presenting a Manchester tart! Custard filled Pastry Pockets deep fried and sprinkled in coconut and powdered sugar, drizzled in raspberry jam…little bites of heaven!
An incredible meal and will be booking again very soon! Lovely intimate setting for a real special occasion. The staff were so welcoming and friendly too. Just lovely!

A quirky, little restaurant with fantastic food and great service. The oysters were the freshest I've tasted and came with salt and pickles - delicious. The king scallops were cooked well too.

Lovely little Indy restaurant situated on a busy, interesting street. We found Street Urchin in advance on a search of the area and it went above and beyond our expectations.
They’ve done a fantastic job of designing their restaurant which hit us immediately upon entry. A lovely mix of modern industrialism met with complementary lighting and a pinch of mid century detail.
The staff were brilliant. We called in advance to book a table and they fit us in with no problem. When we arrived they were helpful and friendly, going through the menu options with us and answering questions we had.
Their menu changes frequently as all of the food is freshly sourced daily. The kitchen is open and allows you to see the whole process. Clearly the chefs take a lot of pride in their work. With a lot of choice available it was difficult to choose as they all sounded wonderful. A great variety of choice and unusual dishes that are quite different to the norm.
The food was outstanding. Presentation alone was wonderful and the taste did not compromise as a result. Bursting with flavour with generous portion sizes. We didn’t have to wait long for it to arrive and it was piping hot when it did. We also had pudds which benefit from an equally diverse selection and were just as delicious.
Overall, there was not a single disappointment and we had a very positive experience. Would definitely recommend Street Urchin to anyone in the area and would love to visit again next time I’m in Manchester.

Perfect meal at Street Urchin last night. Fantastic menu, lovely friendly service and the most delicious food. Will definitely be back.

The menu descriptions are seriously understated. The good is infused with rich flavours and seasoning. This should be fine dining but the portions are too big!
I.
Email booking process was personal and efficient. We were greeted and shown to our table for 2 with enough space around us to enjoy ourselves. We had 2 small and 2 large plates (mussels, chips, hake and lobster) with a bottle of rose wine. We absolutely loved all the flavours and food presentation. We paid 80 pounds and we will definitely be returning!
R. C.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything at street urchin - the vibe inside is so relaxed and the food was amazing! Particularly enjoyed the mussels in Thai green curry sauce, the goat cheese Bon Bons and the crispy pigeon breast, which were absolutely delicious. The staff are amazing, so friendly and knowledgeable. The menu changes regularly so I’m really excited to go back!
K. B.
Amazing restaurant with a delicious and unique menu. Clearly talented chef and the rest of the staff were excellent
F. L.
Excellent menu - harder choosing what to NOT eat than what to go for - in relaxed, modern setting. Great service too. But the real star is the food itself - innovative, tasty, good quality. And fairly priced!
N. G.
100% recommend eating here whether you're local or visiting Manchester. The food here is SUBLIME. There is an emphasis on seasonal and native produce and the food is prepared with great care and attention. The menu is constantly changing and I got an email with an updated menu before our arrival. Whoever comes up with the menu definitely knows how to please a crowd. We were spoiled for choice!
The place is well looked after and the atmosphere is relaxed. Great service from warm and friendly staff. Shoutout for not judging us for having more than a few starters and oysters for dessert.
Be sure to book ahead as this restaurant is clearly in demand. We will be back for sure. Check out their little smokehouse just outside the restaurant.
R. B.
An absolute gem - one of the best restaurants! We have been a few times now and never been disappointed - food cooked with love and attention and better than you’d find in many of the Michelin star restaurants. Service is fab too - would give 6 stars if I could!
M. B.
Absolutely superb meal. Oysters were delicious - could have smashed 12 to myself. The chowder was equally good, with a mouthwateringly rich broth and perfectly cooked fish. And the lobster? Wow 😏🦞 unbelievably tasty and garnished with fried seaweed that could have eaten a bowl of. Staff were excellent as well. Hats off, Street Urchin. We'll definitely be back!
G. B.
We had such an amazing experience. The food is so delicious and flavourful, the portions are generous and the staff was really friendly. I also loved the whole atmosphere and the interior of the restaurant - it's definitely a place we'll be visiting again soon.
R. S.
Amazing to see Street urchin open again after lockdown. The food is just as good if not better than before and the service is amazing. The seafood bisque was addictive and the tika quail was amazing. One of the best restaurants for fish in Manchester with fresh oysters and native lobster on the menu. Will be back soon
k. h.
Wonderful food with a really inspiring menu. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Good range of fish/seafood and veggie options
D. B.
Enjoyed yet another fantastic meal at Street Urchin: Kentucky Fried Rabbit. Unbelievably tender rabbit fell off the bone. Always excellent service and very reasonable prices. Can't recommend this restaurant enough.
We've been eating here almost weekly. Here's a selection of pictures I remembered to take:
K. T.
Lovely new restaurant with affordable, non-pretentious seafood and other dishes. An ever changing menu. I've included pics of the menu when we went but be aware it will definitely not be the same when you go! It's just to give you an idea of what sort of food they do. Interior was beautifully designed and the staff very friendly. A perfect dining experience.
G. S.
Oh man, this place is amazing. Excellent and interesting menu choice, generous portions, friendly service, family-run. Highlight of our trip to Manchester. Would travel back there solely to eat at Street Urchin.
J. W.
Just been today, the food was amazing, the staff were very helpful and friendly, didn't rush you. Will definitely be going back again, and the Manchester Moneybags are a revelation.

Amazing food, service the team where all so friendly - we will be going. A Manchester must go place to eat.
K. D.
I went here tonight with no expectations good or bad, and after a wonderful meal, I’m already planning my next visit! We love seafood, and from the Fish Bisque we had tonight, they know what they’re doing when it comes to seafood... but honestly I was pretty much tempted by everything on offer. It’s a small, friendly place, with a limited menu in the best way possible, full of strong players. Its decor is gorgeous, full of plants and greenery, and the service was relaxed and welcoming. I would highly recommend, and will be visiting again soon.
J. B.
Everything you want from a beach restaurant. Small, friendly, limited menu but delicious food - especially the grilled prawns. Cash only.
F. P.
Food is amazing here, everything is on Specials board, with imaginative plates, fresh ingredients, every mouthful bursts with flavours. Very reasonably priced, service lovely
s. a.
Great service, superb fresh food!
C. A.
This lovely place was a revelation. We went during the late afternoon and the service was polite, friendly and welcoming. The menu choices are fabulous, we had the oysters, the bouillabaise and the bavette. The chef absolutely knows flavours, everything was seasoned to perfection and really yummy. It's the kind of place where you would like to lick the plate! We will be back and will tell everyone we know how great this place is. Thanks to Rachel and Kevin.
D. P.
Great restaurant. Comfortable but chic. Laid back but professional service. Not cheap but the portion sizes are healthy and the quality is A+!! Will definitely go back.
J. L.
Exceptional food and drink. Highly recommend the Moneybags dessert.
N. M.
EXACTLY what eating out should be, extremely well made food with zero pretentiousness, made by people who know what they're doing. Not overly expensive either.
Couldn't be happier, just a shame we live 100 miles away or we would be in all the time.
M. R.
I've been yesterday for dinner, first time, the place is lovely the waitress was really nice and knew what to suggest.
Me and my friends have ordered 3 fish dishes and I can tell the fish is fresh, good quality. We took the special, gnocchi with lobster..I am italian and if I say the gnocchi were excellent please trust me!
Amazing experience! I'll be back soon
S.
Overpriced in my opinion for average food quality, spent 180£ on 4 specials and 2 deserts, drink wise from the limited menus is even worse as they make everything seem fancy just for them to bring you a drink in a can and pour it in your glass, now I am only disappointed with the food there but the staff is really nice and respectful and deserved a tip, but at the end of the day I go to restaurants for food and not the staff so I won't be ever going back there again.
Edit: when I mentioned the 4 specials I meant 4 small and 4 large ones, I can post the receipt if necessary, thank you!
P. S.
Absolutely top notch food and great service. Fabulous food.
K. B.
Our lunch was exceptional. As always, the service was superb, and the food was delicious. The lobster was perfect, beautifully presented and really tasty. Our only regret is that we were too full for dessert!
Rachel and Kevin’s wonderful restaurant has been greatly missed, but has reopened better than ever. Thank you! Karen & Tim
A. H.
Beautiful, small independent restaurant. Renowned for their fish and rightly so bit everything else is excellent quality too. Wonderful front of house also. Generally very lucky to have those on our doorstep. Highly recommended.
A. P.
A family run restarant with freshly cooked food and great flavours. An interesting and varied menu, with daily specials, mean the only problem is trying to decide what to have. Very friendly and helpful service with the opportunity to chat with the owners makes the whole experience fun. Prices are good given the quality; I never knew aubergine could taste so good. While the selection of beers and wines is not extensive there is something for everyone. Looking forward to going back.
A. B.
The staff at Street urchin were great. We were served by a couple of different people and all were very happy and smiling (albeit the face masks)
The food was excellent. We started with the oysters and matched it with the champagne as we were there to celebrate. The oysters were very fresh and up there with some of the best I've tasted.
The menu was small but there was something for everyone.
The owner spoke to us as we paid which was a lovely touch.
We will definitely be returning.
Thanks again
J. H.
Tried four times to get here but lockdowns and other such things have stopped me. Well 44 attempts would have been worth it.. Ok it's Ancoats and not St Anne's square or Deansgate but who cares about location and the odd siren (yes) when the food is this good. Did I say the food is good? That's not true - the food is brilliant. Get yourself here and try it.
M. K.
Food is absolutely delicious and large portions. Highly recommend.
J. W.
Went for a tasting menu and it was lovely. Manchester money bags were excellent. Service was absolutely fantastic, I had a few changes I wanted to make to the menu and they were so accommodating and got it spot on. Really nice night out. Menu changes every couple of weeks so definitely somewhere we can come frequently for a completely different experience.
l. g.
This place is nothing short of brilliant, instantly greeted and welcomed by a very attentive team. The chefs were phenomenal and the food was absolutely incredible, the fish tasted as if it was caught fresh this morning. The service and the food were hand in hand the best I’ve experienced in Manchester. To find a luxury restaurant at an amazing price point safe to say to say I’ll be a regular face! The interior is a clean aesthetic with a lot of greenery creating such a homely atmosphere, my girlfriend is determined to make our flat just like it.
P. P.
Great food and service, though the menu range is a little narrow.
The Pork Belly stuffed with Black Pudding was sensational 👌
M. C.
An absolute gem and a must try for those 8n the Ancoats area. The food is divine, you can see into the kitchen and the amazing alchemy that's happening in there. It's great to have a fish menu and other menu.
The service deserves a mention for being on point and not over bearing but attentive.
Everything I had was delicious and some dishes super unique.
Ending on the Manchester money bags desert which was amazing.
T. S.
Outstanding. You can tell the owners have a real passion. The lady that talked to us at our table had a really in depth knowledge of the dishes available and was a pleasure to speak with.
The food is excellent, really interesting dishes and the restaurant has a great relaxed vibe, feels like a cool place to be seen. The prices were very reasonable for the quality that really could compete with some of the proper fine dining places in Manchester
c. c.
Ate here yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent value for money. Large tasty portions. Didn't feel rushed. I found it difficult to decide what to order. Lovely, friendly service and a relaxed vibe.
Looking forward to eating here again 🙂

Great interior with loads of plants around, staff is very polite and helpful. The food is really good - the right mix of flavours, textures and nice presentation made the dinner an enjoyable food adventure. I can highly recommend SU to anybody looking for a unique food experience.

Great freshly cooked food and efficient and friendly service in a modern restaurant with my friend who's great at finding the new and best restaurants in the city.
To start, we shared the scallops with smoked crispy bacon with a sticky sweet sauce as a starter, great combination of flavours and textures and topped with just enough salad greens.
If you like seafood, Street Urchin is a must. The bisque is delicious, scallops and muscles in an intensely bisque sauce with dry bread to dip. Plenty else on the menu I wanted to try. There's a board of delicious meat mains and small plates too.
We finished off with Manchester Money bags, a take on Manchester Tart, light custard in a crunchy batter ball coated with sugar served with a jammy sauce. Definitely a restaurant I'll return to.
With wine and coffee, the bill was a very reasonable £35 each.
D. C.
Had a fantastic lunch (starter+main+drink for £15) at Street Urchin on Sunday afternoon. The starters were pretty big for "small plates" and very tasty. We ordered vege tempura and beetroot bhajis to start (plus a cheeky additional oyster each) and both ordered mussels in a creamy leek sauce as mains. Both courses were delicious, the oysters tasted fresh and the staff were really nice and friendly. Definitely going to have a return visit sometime soon.
n. b.
The most delicious veggie roast I have eaten in Manchester!! Went in looking for a veggie roast..they didn’t actually have one on the menu but they made one specially for us with a cauliflower steak, and veggie gravy. Super accommadating! Definitely recommend!
C. D.
Fab food and amazing value. Staff are Brill!
R. W.
We had a cracking meal. My wife loved the bisque. I have amazing mussels for starter and really nice whole roasted sea bass. I finished up with chocolate truffles. I'm coeliac and i was very well looked after and was instantly made to feel comfortable when they made clear they understood the difference between gluten intolerance and coeliac.
K. M.
Really delicious food, including both fish and meat dishes as well as vegetarian and vegan options. I’ve been a couple of times and the service is always friendly and it has a nice evening atmosphere.

Go here at least once a month. The food and service is always excellent. They back such depth of flavour into all their dishes I haven't ordered anything I didn't enjoy.
