Lovely meal tonight for us two worn-out walkers. The fish pie was exceptional, and my side of greens (broccoli, Savoy cabbage, and leeks?/green onions?) was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I washed it all down with a NZ Sauvignon Blanc. I’m in heaven, and regret that I’m only staying one night. With superb, friendly service and excellent food, this restaurant is a standout in the area.

What a great place to end our walk at Hadrians Wall. The room was lovely and well equipped. We could not have asked for a better meal. All reasonably priced. We both had starters and mains a bottle of fizz, white wine and 2 cocktails.. All for about £120. There is also a lovely outside seated area where you can enjoy the sunshine.

A wonderful end to our walk. We sat in the beautiful garden & had a superb brunch, small english breakfast & eggs benedict with our two dogs. We were all well looked after including the dogs who had treats & water provided. We had a meal at Close House the previous evening and even scored the food here higher! It's a real hidden gem of a place.

This evening, 9th January we have had the most wonderful meal. Our waiters were Matthew and David. They were both competent, professional, courteous, polite and very efficient. In fact they are both outstanding. Their skills added to the ambiance of this warm, cosy, intimate bistro. The food was outstanding. We started with tomatoe soup and smoked salmon. Both starters were superb. Main course for the 2 of us consisted of medium cooked fillet steak which was sublime. The sauce was beautiful and the chips wonderful. The macaroni cheese was fantastic, just too much to eat. Only one dessert of crumble which was an experience apart, exceptional. Coffee was lovely, full flavour. Our compliements to the chef for preparing us an outstanding meal this evening. Our waiters, Matthew and David ensured we had a lovely evening. Thank you very much. We shall definetely return. This was our first visit to the Bistro and we really impressed. Maria Barrell

What a great restaurant in a lovely spot. The outdoor garden is perfect for all fresco eating. Lots of heaters and blankets to keep you warm if the night is a little cooler. You really are spoilt for choice with too many things on the menu to choose from. A great choice of ice creams and cocktails 🍸 to end your evening. Highly recommended 👌 perfect location just outside of Newcastle with a short train ride to the centre.

Great friendly staff. Gorgeous garden. The lovely owners kept open for our booking of 20 or so for a baby shower, we had the place to ourselves and they treat us really well. You get a number out of a hat to have your own tab for food and drinks. Best idea ever as splitting a bill is a nightmare in a big group. It's hard to say what type of food they do as the menu has so many different cuisines. I actually wanted to try them all, couldn't decide so got a burger. Burger selection is excellent. I got the brevent burger - fat patty, brie cheese, onion chutney = lush There was water on the table too so I really liked that. I didn't go to the toilet but assume it was upstairs.

A beautiful bistrot in lovely Wylam, quirky and charming decor and a spacious outside area. The menu is vast, eclectic and tasty looking, and the breakfast / toastie options we had were as delcious as they were generous. Egg-fried stotty will forever have a place close to my heart!

As weekly regulars of previous owners we see a big difference. Food is excellent but it’s a very restricted menu now that hasn’t changed for quite a while. Sometimes you couldn’t get a table on a Friday/Saturday but now it’s not very busy and lacking in atmosphere. It’s sad because it’s a lovely venue inside and in the garden and we want it to succeed but it’s not as good as it was sadly. One thing annoys me - wine bottles are opened before being brought to your table! Plus they don’t pour to taste first. New decor, chairs and tables are very nice as are the young staff . Tegan is a miss!

Whilst I am a regular here, you could think I'm bias, but you could also take from that, that to be a regular, the place has to be good for people to keep going back and become regulars! We just popped in for a Sunday dinner, which we used to do every week, but are trying not to eat out as much, and my God, whilst the Sunday dinner was lovely as it always is, the standouts today were the Scotch Egg starter, and Chocolate Mousse dessert. I have said it for a couple of years now and I'll say it again, some of the food here from Euan is levels above anywhere in the local area, and even centre of Newcastle - and the service from Giovanna & team are the icing on the cake. Update: Crab starter, unbelievable, see pic.
