Reviews of Brinkburn St Brewery, Bar & Kitchen
A. I.
First time here and I can honestly say I will definitely be returning.
Today my birthday after a long day working. My colleagues recommended this place. We had a drink and food. It’s lovely. Stuff in bar a young man to friendly. He offered me for birthday half pint beer. I think one most nicer thing I getting.
I can’t waiting to back again.
M. C.
First time we’ve been in here for a meal. The menu is quite burger based but there are other things like small plates and fish and chips.
Saying all that though, the burger I had, The Reuben, was absolutely fantastic. Really well cooked and very tasty. Great home cooed chips, and all really freshly cooked.
The beer/lager selection is all from the local brewery so no generic brands in here.
This place is definitely worth a stop for a meal or just a couple of pints if you are out and around the Ouesburn.

Had a great Sunday lunch here with friends. Nice atmosphere and really good customer service . I had the vegetarian nut roast which was delicious. Good value for money .
S. N.
Amazing food, value for money is really good, mostly a bit heavy and big portions if you’re looking for something lighter but tastes great. Atmosphere is also quite authentic and staff is nice. Drinks, cocktails specifically, are one of the best cocktails in town in my opinion. Really great place overall

Our first visit to Brinkburn Street Brewery today......and what a revelation!!! Superb craft ales and beers served to you by passionate and knowledgeable hosts, the entire place has the aura of a ginormous family living room, filled with love, pride and joy. A delicious experience, one we are eager to repeat. If you haven't visited this jewel in the beer magicians fellowship yet, why not?? You are missing a veritable treat for the taste buds, the eyes and the soul. Enter as a stranger, leave as a valued friend. Sarah and Jamie from Bonny Dundee

Lovely place, my only down fall was got told our table was booked! It didn't have anything on the table to say it was booked and was still drinking my drinks!, Best ask what tables you can sit at when you arrive!
I was even being served when the server stopped listening to me to take payment for someone that just walked up picked up two packets of crisps!
But nice fresh beers, looks like nice fresh food.
m. a.
Great food, fabulous beer … but the real stars of this show are the staff. A table for 6 was organised within seconds of us arriving on a busy bank holiday, without a reservation. Nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff were hard working and good humoured - special mention goes to the manager, whom I watched manage an obnoxious drunk with grace and professionalism… she deserved a medal!
c. i.
The place has a pleasant atmosphere and the music was nice and chilled when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. They do a good selection of ales and I enjoyed the Byker Brown Ale. I wasn't blown away by the food though I only tried a couple of small plates, the brisket croquettes were interesting though could have done with more meat in them. A nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon after a walk by the river.
C. D.
This place has got a great vibe about it. Amazing food and a cracking selection of drinks. Had the sociy sauce topped fries along with a pint of Ford St and a half of IPA
M. K.
Absolutely great Sunday dinner, beef and Yorkshire were excellent, pint of Ford Street ipa to wash it down! Thankyou

Received the best customer service yesterday from a lovely young lad (tall fella working behind the bar around 7.30pm). Had an issue with some beer we bought, really looked after us and went the extra mile. We always loved this place but when they are dealing with issues (which must be super rare and this was a freak incident with nobody to blame) in this immaculate fashion it puts them up another notch.
Long live the Brinkburn!!!

Went for Xmas dinner with friends. There had been some miscommunication with our booking and we were told the Xmas dinner wouldn’t be available to us. The manager/supervisor came and spoke to us and then the kitchen and managed to sort something out for us.
Excellent service both front and back of house went out of their way to make things special for us. Food was incredible as always and beer absolutely delicious. Great place for lunch dinner good value too. Thanks again for a great Xmas lunch.
S. H.
Had a lovely lunch here on a Thursday. Opted for the vegetarian small plates which are not very small! They were absolutely delicious. Would visit again.
P. A.
Lovely place, came here with my laptop to work and had a brunch, there was a fireplace on, very cosy. Highly recommend
N. D.
Fab venue. Great choice of drinks and choice of seating area on First floor, basement with beer garden. Highly recommended. Like the Quirkiness of it!!
S. M.
Visited on Caribbean Weekend, we tried almost everything on the menu. It was all well presented and extremely tasty. Extensive range of drinks; beers, gin, rum, whiskey and cocktail's, as well as tea and coffees. Friendly and helpful staff.
9/9/18
Several visits later and sampled more of menu! We booked for first Sunday Dinners...sampled pork
28/9/18
More excellent food... although disappointed the sweet potato chips were off the menu but the replacement, hasselback potatoes were good!
and beef and sticky toffee pudding with icecream, pictures speak for themselves 🤗
18/9/18
Corned beef hash, spaghetti polpette, sweet potato fries.
2/2/19
Chinese new year menu
Lemon chicken, jasmine rice, shaoxing beef brisket in bao. As usual very tasty :-)
13/2/19
Sweet potato wedges and wine 💕

They really need to resolve the temperature issues, there is almost nowhere you can sit to avoid the large industrial pipe/vents. Sometimes even with coat on it's too cold to sit for more than 1 drink, even beside the fake fire.
D. M.
Lovely little pub and kitchen. Really friendly staff in both bar and kitchen. A great varied selection of beers- around 6 cask and 9 keg approximately. Plenty of cans and bottles in the fridge too. A great food selection, we had two starters, two mains and a dessert, all really tasty. They had a little side room with some games in, books to browse and cool decor generally. It is down some steps (I didn't notice any access for wheelchairs but can't say for absolute certain if there is this option), and there is on street parking available, some streets are permit only, some allow a couple of hours so check the signs! Thoroughly recommend.
S. D.
Never been here before, such a great place. Cracking beer and food, friendly staff. Special mention to the young lady (manager I assume) who had to deal with a group of customers arguing over their bill/service, they were out of interest and she dealt with them in such a professional and dignified manner. Will definitely be back here again.
C. A.
Best gaff in Newcastle by far for craft beer. Staff are super friendly and service is fast. Burgers are unreal. Upstairs music is a bit too loud for the vibe though.
D. L.
Visited for sunday lunch. 3 of us had Roast Lamb shoulder; usual trimmings- roasties, potato/swede mash, carrotts etc with rich gravy and yorkshire pudd. Chose the 3 course option ; 3 large black pudding balls for me and a Chocolate Brownie / ice cream dessert later. some good ales. The"railway Porter" was particularly good. Covid prevention rules in good order. A nice change for lunch in an eaterie with character.
T. K.
I had to come back and edit this review after the Epicurean Evening! If you haven’t been here for a meal (or a few beers), you need to go as soon as you can! Best food in Newcastle and the beer is right there with the food! It’s a cozy setting, especially when the fire is going, but the patio out back is great on a nice day and the event hall is full of comfy seating and just a nice place to be. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
M. H.
Always wanted to come here and try the menu. Had the opportunity today. Very cool and bohemian type place, original artworks on every wall. The food was very well done. We had veg nachos, cheese burger and fries, and the Asian chicken noodles from the menu boards which can be changeable. Nachos were plentlyful and very well presented, burger was quality with a tasty pate and cheese, in a brioche bun. Fries were ok, preseasoned with salt. The noodles were nice, but had too much sauce and a bit too salty. As this is also the site of the micro brewery, you can also buy the brewery's cans or bottles of beer, in a pick and mix gift pack which we did. Overall very good!
D. M.
Decent place.
Seems to have a massive area now upstairs.
P. B.
Dog friendly.
Brewery with great food and huge selection of keg and cask beers and ciders.
Small outdoor area.
Take AMEX too so wish small shop and Eat Out to Help Out, you can get 2-courses for £5!
Great beers, highly recommended.
M. J.
Lovely little bar and restaurant.
Food was absolutely lovely and the prices were reasonable.
It has a wide range of bervages also.
Would 100% recommend
C. M.
Great selection of beers with polite service. The chicken burgers are absolute monsters!
M. M.
Really nice location!
Went for food and a drink, I had a sour beer but the choice on offer is insane!
The food was delicious as well and the price was reasonable
g. s.
Compared to the last visit, it seemed to have changed slightly, it was prior covid, but this time it felt more like a posh school dinner on a plate rather than a Sunday Lunch.
Don't get me wrong it was still nice, but to elevate it slightly, seperate gravy and veg in dishes would make a huge difference, than just everything whacked on a plate.
Totally get that it's a brewery with food on the side, but the price for lunch doesn't reflect in the product..
Great tasting veg would be nice hotter, spot on Yorkshires..
Thanks.
A. F.
The best burger I have had in ages. Brilliant beer flight too...absolutely nailed it.
R.
Second meal I've had here, first go at Sunday Dinner. Yorkshire pudding was a bit over done but other than that it was a cracking plate of food and it filled me with the Sunday dinner joy I'm looking for. Excellent vegetable selection, good value for money and really lovely staff
J. T.
Wonderful venue , friendly staff great choice of beers from near and far . The Brinkburn St brews are particularly good. The food is delicious too . Great brewery merchandise as well .
J. P.
Genuinely one of the best burgers I've ever had, and I've had a lot of burgers. And the beer's great too, of course.
M. D.
Decent pub and restaurant, worth the trip out just for the belly pork alone! Friendly staff and very well priced, a cool place to visit.
A. E.
Popped in for a quick beer on the way to a gig at The Cluny. Great selection of beers, though it was very busy and bar service took a long time (it was a Saturday night, so to be expected). Would love to try some more of their beers on another visit.

Love this place! Been a few times but last time really stood out as the service and food was immaculate! Our waitress Alice (or Ellis?) was super helpful and made us feel at home – going the extra mile where she could such as offering tasters of new brews etc. Thank you Alice and all the other staff for making our evening so good!! Will be back soon :)

Great food, great beet

Most Brewery taps know what they're doing... but these guys are EXCEPTIONAL... both in service and beer...
AND they do knock out food...
WIN WIN WIN
A go to every time we've been to Toon Town.
J. F.
Brilliant service after just being refused drinks at The Tyne Bar. As a group of 14 female as a hen party (I’m the hen), dressed in only black Disney t-shirts and quite civilised, they would not serve us. So we moved on and came to Brinkburn Brewery which we received such a warm welcome and even a drink on the house for the hen and maid of honour. Fantastic service and lovely drinks and food (just chips, but they were delicious). Thank you for having us!!!!
P. R.
Good beers and nice food. Loads of space to sit for a beer. Few floors with a varied vibe. Staff eager to be helpful with beer recommendations.
C. W.
Great burgers and a decent bar but I feel like they are conning their customers during eat out to help out. There is no standard menu available ( I asked ) and you are have to order and spend £20 on two course sand a drink to max out the discount, then large coke is nearly £2 extra bringing the price essential up £5 a pint of soft drink! but they hope you dont notice because you're getting it half price. My friend was able to order a side by itself but had to pay full price because they couldn't calculate half price as it wasn't on the £20 menu - will not be returning with these shady business practices.

Nice beer good staff first visit for me will be back

Quality place! I am a local person who has visited it a number of times prior to COVID. Was a fan of the hidden tunnel. This year I have to say it has went up highly in my views. Very much enjoyed their tenacity and resolve in the first lockdown especially by providing a great service. Their attitude of improving their service in testing times can only be applauded. Top work! Live music, great atmosphere, great food and drinks in a wonderful large venue 👏 amazing!
A. H.
Got a couple of burgers and beers from these guys yesterday. Food was great and came exactly when promised!
The brewery actually (twice) messed up the beer order - but on the second visit (when they'd again brought the wrong beer) they gave me a fantastic substitute that wasn't even available on the menu. I am bowled over by how nice this was and just had to shout out how amazing the team at Brinkburn are. Cannot wait to get back into the bar soon.
Y. B. C.
Place has amazing food and drinks to chose from. I got a burger for my tea and it was amazing. Offer a variety of local beers and drinks to chose from with lovely staff to assist.
K.
Great atmosphere with lovely staff. Excellent beer garden with herbs which is a nice touch. It's a shame it has to close at 9 but it's understandable due to the flats at the back. Great selection of beers, rum and gins too. Food was very tasty we tried everything on the menu. 100% recommend you go there and try for yourself
J. S.
Me and a group of 10 friends on a weekend away in Newcastle literally found this place by surprise while walking to the free trade inn. The beer is so good that we all bought cans and bottles to bring back to Manchester.. The food was everything we had wished for before on a visit to another brewery. Cozy room and really busy but with a great atmosphere. Staff are 5*!
P. R.
Good beers and nice food. Loads of space to sit for a beer. Few floors with a varied vibe. Staff eager to be helpful with beer recommendations.

We visited Brinkburn brewery , for my birthday lunch 10.09.2020, great atmosphere, good service, excellent food, i enjoyed the big blue burger, the other half had the brinkburger, so tasty, in the words of Tilly Taylor deeeeee..lishus. would highly recommend. We even had a tour of the Maling room , and left with some craft ales, thank you
M. W.
Beer selection and quality very good. Toilets however are awful sorry
C. C.
Brilliant staff made tasting many beers such a great experience. All were lovely
Will def go again....

This place does great beer but don't sleep on their food - it is fantastic! Highly recommend stopping by on Sundays for a roast.
J. B.
Excellent beer, food, atmosphere and staff.
C. P.
Fantastic! Came here to try the Christmas three course meal for a special occasion. Everything was delicious, brilliant beer selection, excellent vegan choices, lovely atmosphere and wonderful attentive staff. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon to try more beer and the bar food!
J. L.
Relaxed vibe, excellent food and drink in a really cool space.
C. L.
Lovely brewery, a regular spot I visit with great beer, cosy indoors, and a very nice beer garden. Food is pretty good too.
K.
I ordered a crab burger! Looked great on Instagram, collection during this lockdown. Was excited for a Friday treat. Ordered, collected was really smooth process. The burger was very disappointing. The bun wasn’t black and the crab was mostly batter ... serious lacked meat. The Japanese cucumber thing was delicious. The fries included for ok.
My wife got a standard beef burger that was less money and way better. Serious food jealousy.
Won’t order again.
s. W.
Change of scenery - went to downstairs bar. Really lovely atmosphere, welcoming to everybody and great drinks. Thanks Brinkburn, now one of my favourite bars
J. S.
Great space, nice food and super choice in drinks.
D. J.
Lock down pre-18th birthday celebrations included a food delivery from Brinkburn Street Brewery. 2 burgers and fries, 1 veggie with 2 deserts a brownie a d a sticky toffee pud. The food was delicious the desserts could be shared between 2 people. Would highly recommend if you're wanting a tasty treat. The staff taking our order where helpful and the delivery guy adhered to social distancing.
P. B.
Nice beer and a good Bloody Mary, but a feeble Vegan Sunday Roast. Same price as meat options, but missing half the sides. You get half a small beetroot (the main), a couple of sticks of brocolli, some red cabbage, a swede and two small roast potatoes for £11. What there was was tasty enough and the standard roasts looked great, but I'd avoid if you aren't into meat.
H. P.
Absolutely lovely burger and coffee from here. Out for a walk and they were doing take aways. Well worth a trip. You can order on their app as well.
W. M.
Very tasty Brunch just the right amount of food, but my son thought it would be better to have 2 sausages!
B. B. S. M.
Amazing experience here....very unique venue...observing Covid guidelines so well...very friendly place.
Keiran was absolute diamond in accommodating my allergy/intolerance needs which is much appreciated, great customer service, thanks for going over and above - is acknowledged and appreciated
Thanks to Kyle and as well.
All round excellent experience 👍
F. L.
Nice food downstairs, although was standing to long before being served big let down were the two front house service guys with beards, who would be more suited to non customer service facing roles
N. S.
Wide range of cask and keg ales, largely produced on the premises, plus other alcoholic beverages, including various spirits and wine. Barrista style coffee and tea available from the bar. Restaurant serves Sunday Lunch, but during the week there is a changing menu featuring modern adaptations of local classics, for example, corned beef hash. Vegetarian and vegan dishes always included on the menu. Food is generally good, the occasional problem seems to be serving it up whilst still hot.
P. M.
Beer is great but the main reason I'm posting is because imo the burgers at brinkburn are the best in Newcastle and yes I have tried everywhere else! Don't know how you are getting them this good but keep doing what you're doing guys.
C. M.
Looks like a fantastic, lively venue with plenty of beer options. Staff friendly and helpful. Retail facility available at front of house. I got a good explanation of options and am looking forward to trying my purchases!
D. T.
Great atmosphere, greeter was a true gent. The place was well organised and I felt really safe during these unprecedented times. Hand gel available on the table and table service good. A great place to visit 😊
C. M.
Lovely place, lovely beers.
Too many flies though.
Food 9/10 apart from one meal which was poor and let the score down big time.
Small improvements and it’s a 5.
J. L.
Good luck to you. Lovely beer in plastic milk cartons. Drink it on the grass next to the scrap yard. There are no toilets. Its ten quid for a beer. Its really busy. Strange times. Enjoyed it though!
F. G.
Kids said that the food was amazing. We have to agree. Staff very attentive and friendly
O.
We held our AGM in Maling Hall attached to Brinkburn St Brewery, bar and kitchen, which was eclectic and fun and very Ouseburn. It included having our Board Meeting before the meeting in the big yurt! Catering and set up excellent and everything we needed. Great staff support.
P. D.
Good pints, good food, dog friendly.
R. G.
Really cool brewery/pub with nice outdoor area for the summer. Food looked excellent, will be back to try it soon as possible. I've heard good things about the Sunday roast.
J. F.
This is an undiscovered gem for ale affiendos and foodies alike. Owner Lee Renforth and head chef Gareth Baty have created something very special. Great food all sourced locally and great ale to compliment it. The place has a real buzz to it and the staff are really helpful at explaining the unique properties of the beers on offer, all brewed at Brinkburn St Brewery. Sunday lunches are top notch but be quick because this gem is becoming discovered and definitely going places. Be sure to try the Byker Brown Ale. .brewed in Newcastle Not Yorkshire !
A. Y.
This is the hidden gem in Newcastle
The cask beer was superb served by well knowledgeable staff especially rachel who even showed us the tunnel
Another hidden surprise was the chef Gareth whoose specials were to die for
This is a MUST VISIT if your in Newcastle
G. B.
Amazing very quirky venue fantastic choice of locally brewed beers which were amazing and excellent food along with the service, couldn’t rate this place high enough, and so nice to go somewhere so unique.
A. M.
Great place, good beer, good food and dog friendly, definitely one to come back to.
T. w.
Ever since steam machine and brinkburn street brewery collaborated i have always wanted to attended the brewery in Newcastle. Taking the unusual step i went lone wolf and visited at their spring beer festival. Rather drunk on arrival i remember little beyond my first few drinks. The steam machine and brinkburn street beers made the situation worse of course.
Its a cracking little place need to revisit sober. The food downstairs looked impeccable , i settled for a burger in the event and very much enjoyed it. Spoke with a gentleman from brinkburn owner/brewery who took time to talk to me a random drunk guy who wanted to say i love your beers!
Very enjoyable visit, need to bring the mrs next time.
D. W.
Dog friendly, pleasant atmosphere, good food , good service
