We chose this place as there were a few different drink options included, there were several good choices for food and you got 2 hours in your allotted time slot.
The drinks kept coming! There was no hanging around with empty glasses.

Me and my friend are both veggie and although we agree sausages were a bit of a surprise choice, it's so nice to have something that isn't nut roast! As for the service, very attentive but also relaxed and laid back. All in all, a great experience.

I had the Cajun Chicken Waffle for food and it was actually so good it brought a tear to my eye (with the help of a few cocktails down me but still!) - The waitress was absolutely lovely and made sure we got as much drinks as possible in the time we had, ready to order the next round as she served the current drinks! everything tasted so good and an added benefit that we could mix and match drinks! well worth the money and more!

P. S.Having been a resident of Newcastle for 7 years (both as a student and a professional), I have visited a variety of pubs/clubs within the rightfully- called “party city”.
I can confidently say that, after these 7 years, I have not experienced a place which captures the heart of Newcastle better than the Cog and Wheel.
One of the driving factors of being a regular at this pub (apart from my functional alcoholism) for the better half of a year is down to the staff - the actual cog and wheels of Cog and Wheel (pun intended). From the minute you walk through the gate into the cosy beer garden to the minute you finish your last drink, the staff will be there to ensure your time at the venue is the best it can be.
A pub would not be successful without its food and drinks. Looking down the menu, you’ll run into your fair share of witty names, such as the “cog on the Tyne” and the “Kanye Zest”. However, do not let these names fool you, as the food/drinks offered here are no joke.
From the comical atmosphere of Monday’s quiz night to the dangerously cheap drinks available on “Wheel Wednesdays”, Cog and Wheel is the perfect place to be, no matter what the occasion.
I’m sure there will be some individuals who disagree with me, but I have only one response in return - try the place yourself.
j. l.Went in for food opening day, 10/10! Chicky Gervais had me coming back the next day for more, quite like the comedian would. Staff are friendly, with lots of character and made me feel comfortable with their demeanour and understanding of social distancing rules. The whole atmosphere is welcoming, the beer garden is a sun trap, which lead to a top class experience. Special shout out out to the female manager Lucy who made an unbelievable Expresso Martini. J. R.I noticed the venue had changed from quite a popular stag/hen doss house to this! Alongside a work colleague we hit the place for a few very early eve Guinness. Slightly inclement weather scuppered our initial outdoor seat in a good frontal beer garden area, so we headed in. It's a medium-ish sized space, I'd suggest for about eighty punters or thereabouts (indoors). No problems with service or the vibe. Quite simplistically set out is the decor: no frills, but there ain't room for 'em. Initial trade has been decent I heard from a waiter: the evening scene is where it's at. If you can't get in the one or two more established 'middle class' hang outs next door then give this a try.

My name is Amy and today I visited the cog and wheel, me and the girls went out tonight to have casual drinks and I am more than delighted by the service we received at this venue. I was extremely pleased to be served by the really friendly orlaith who made us feel more than welcome and attended to all our needs. Oliver was also great on the bar!
