Another excellent meal. We walked up on a Friday night after having been let down by Cafe Andaluz. Service was quick, polite and efficient. The food was brilliant as always. The atmosphere was a little quieter than usual as it was later in the evening but still very pleasant. For the town centre the food is incredibly good value and good quality. I don't know enough about Spanish cuisine to say if it is authentic or not but it is certainly delicious. A really stark comparison to the much hyped Cafe Andaluz.

We had a fantastic time at El Torero, For 2, 3 dishes each is more than enough. Overall, the food was really good. In particular we both really liked the meatballs and beef stew. Wasn’t a huge fan of the ham croquettes due to the texture but that’s a personal preference. The waitress was great and kept coming by to check if we wanted any more drinks/dessert. The traditional almond cake was delicious so I’d recommend ordering it if you’re unsure. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

Me and my partner visited El Terero for the first time last night. We arrived at the restaurant at 5pm and were the only two in but the restaurant was pretty much full by the time we were leaving a couple of hours later. The menu is vast and there’s plenty to satisfy all tastes. We wanted to try as much as possible, so we chose six tapas between us. We selected the tortilla, pork meatballs, ham & chicken croquettes, potatoes with chorizo and peppers, Seafood paella and the braised lamb. The croquettes were crunchy and flavoursome on the outside with a lovely and soft texture on the inside. The tortilla was nice and thick with a very generous sized portion and the egg was not overpowering as it sometimes can be elsewhere. The potatoes were cooked well and the chorizo seemed to be boiled as opposed to pan fried which is how I’d usually cook my chorizo but I may have to switch techniques because it was full of flavour and the peppers rounded things off nicely. However, the stars of the show were definitely the two meaty dishes. The lamb chunks were extremely tender and must’ve been slowed cooked for a while to be that easy to eat and came with a sauce which was full of flavour from the tomatoes, white wine and paprika. My favourite dish was the pork meatballs, they crumbled nicely when cut and were extremely succulent to eat with a lovely and fresh tomato sauce which I ended up spooning onto the potatoes to make things even tastier. We were able to finish all of the dishes but didn’t have too much room to spare, so three dishes per person would be ample for most. Although we did of course find room to share the Red Velvet Cheesecake. The layers of chocolate, cake, cheesecake and biscuit base intertwined extremely effectively and made for a fantastic end to our meal. We were impressed with all the dishes and would highly recommend El Terero to anybody looking for a tapas restaurant.

We stumbled across this restaurant whilst looking for a late lunch in Newcastle. We called and booked a table with one and a half hours notice. The decor is rustic, reminiscent of a traditional Spanish restaurant and the food was simply amazing, very authentic and absolutely delicious. All the dishes we chose were excellent and we look forward to coming back. The service was brilliant and the price was reasonable as well. Highly recommended!

What an absolute gem of a place, the food is just amazing, just make sure to go with a party of at least 4 to get advantage of their deals, other wise tends to be a bit expensive, as the food is so addictive you will want to order more and more. The Staff was also great always showing a smile and with the beautiful Spanish accent. Definitely one of my favourite places to go, I keep coming to Newcastle City Centre and keep discovering these in incredible places.

Overall the food here was very good, felt as though the portions were a bit on the smaller side for the price but everything tasted great. Lovely place and great staff! The place held a great atmosphere, perfect for dining out! Overall a great choice of Tapas dishes, only criticism is that some of the gluten free options contain traces due to cooking contamination, although the staff informed us of this, the choice is then a little more limited. That said all the dishes tasted amazing!!

Authentic (and rustic!) Spanish experience in Central Newcastle. Huge range of hot and cold tapas options with a fab wine list. Allergens/dietary requirements clearly marked on the menu, however staff are also on hand to help.

This restaurant is an essential part of my annual Xmas tradition. Every year, just after Xmas we visit Newcastle and every year we visit El Torero. The food is always great, the service is always great and it's been like this for over ten years. Quick solo visit while I'm in town. Still great.

No word can explain how pleased we were to find & experience this place - a restaurant with a lovely staff, great atmosphere and truly & genuinely decent Spanish food. We ordered lunch tapas set - including this small veg paella-ish rice dish, which was absolutely delicious! We were a little fed up with burgers and fish’n chips in other places during our short trip to this area... I’d definitely come back here to have a bigger meal than this time!!! Amazing food, good prices and really fab portion sizes for tapas, too! We were delighted to discover that their menu precisely notes which gluten-free dishes are fried alongside glutenous ingredients, which was amazingly helpful as our children are coeliac. PLUS, the front-of-house manager even came out to double-check with us that we were aware of that particular risk of cross-contamination! Just fantastic - thank you!

Been going to El Torero for over 20 years. All of our family love it. It's a great way to introduce kids to Spanish food. Portions are small so if they don't like something they can try something else. Never disappoints.

Beautiful food. I was extremely impressed how they managed my food intolerances. I am severely Lactose intolerant and have a wheat intolerance too, not the best combination, and the staff were amazing. They have gluten free and dairy free menus with lots of options which is a lovely change.

Really nice, unpretentious tapas place. Good food and prices and staff are great. Only thing that was a bit underwhelming was the Iberico ham. This stuff is never cheap, but the quality of the ham here didn't seem to match the price.

Visited with a group of 9 as part of a work evening meal. You get 3 sets of food to order from, prices from £17 per head. We went with the middle of the road option and then we got 3-4 dishes. There was far too much food for everyone to consume. Lesson learned is we could go for the cheaper option and spend more on alcohol! Haha Service was very good though. Staff very friendly. Food came out quick and hot. Everyone has said they would like to revisit.

Already several times we have been to this restaurant. The food is quit nice and the atmosphere good. At earlier occasions we received an invitation for a 20% discount offer. So after arriving in Newcastle this week we decided to make use of it. We sent an email as proposed on the card and a request to make a table reservation at the same time. We received a confirmation that everything would be settled. Tonight we went for dinner and to our disappointment there was no discount when we received the bill. Despite all discussions the staff (and manager) where not prepared to give us the promised discount... So for us, the last time we visited this restaurant...

Took my wife here for Valentine's Day and it was another great idea of mine! We were met by Dario the owner as soon as we walked in and guided to our table. Dario looks just like a conquistador with his beard and compliments the old world charm of the interior! The restaurant was lively without being crowded and we had a nice cosy spot in the corner. Loads to choose from on the menu but being Valentine's Day opted for The Lovers tapas selection. Drinks and food came thick and fast. All your regular tapas favourites with some unique dishes too. Dates wrapped in bacon and squid ink croquettes were my favourite. At great meal with friendly staff who were happy to chat about the food and the historic building. Free parking after five at the multistorey carpark up Dean Street too. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Visited here with some friends, one of whom is the pickiest eater in the world, before heading to a concert in Newcastle. Dave had never tried tapas before so was a little nervous, but really opened up to the experience once a few of the meat balls had gone in. They have a great selection of dishes to choose from and prices were not too expensive. San Miguel on tap was another plus. Definitely an experience we won't forget quickly, for more reasons than just the food. Beads not included.

After a good start, things went downhill, our food and wine arrived on time, the food very good, and then things went downhill, after waiting for twenty five minutes for our table to be cleared after finishing eating, we had to ask for a menu for coffees and desert, only then was our table cleared, attention to detail and service was not what we expected. Food is quite ok. Some things are very similar to what we eat in Spain, others a bit different. I would say it is slightly expensive for the quality of the food, and what really made me feel bad was when we were charged £15 for a bad quality sangria (not worth more than £3).
