Collected food for takeaway. The food was really nice, particularly liked the cheese balls starter, but the reason for 4 stars not 5 is I ordered the dirty hand cut chips and my partner ordered superfries me, but you can see from the pictures we both received exactly the same skin on fries with different toppings. They were still nice just disappointing that I didn't get the hand cut chips I was looking forward to.

Just popped in for something to eat, very quiet, but the food was very nice, the onion ring was a bit too 'greasy' when I tasted it, the dirty sweet potato fries were lovely, eat them all day!

Heard a lot of great things about the burgers here, and they did not disappoint!! All-around great food and probably one of the juiciest / messiest burgers I've had, definitely worth the price! I'd also recommend the shakes as they are also very delicious, even with the bacon bits on the top. The atmosphere inside the building was very welcoming, and I love that they had some seats separated from others. The staff were very friendly and welcoming when entering. A nice little restaurant in jesmond, just a lack of parking around the area but overall not awful.

Such a lovely place to eat and drink with friendly and helpful staff. My first time, my Son has been a few times before. Food was fabulous. I went for the Vegetarian option as I like to try Veg and Vegan options, and it was really tasty. My Son went for the full Fat Hippo burger experience and it was very good. The place has a rustic feel which is just great, we had a lovely time, thanks everyone 😊

Booked this for a post graduation meal with son and family. Beautiful place , which caters for vegans with a nice range of vegan starters and mains. The staff were informative, knowledgeable and provided exemplary customer service. Food portions were excellent size and tasted fantastic. Highly recommended

Absolutely delicious burgers. Only let down, the lady behind the counter made bit of a song and dance about seating two of us (we arrived late at night) when there was only one other table occupied, rest all were empty. The guy who served us was great, no complaints. The burgers didn’t disappoint as usual!

Starters were frickles and cheese ball, the cheese balls stole the show. Lovely and soft stringer cheese coated in their buffalo sauce. Then a belly busting burger, with two layers of chicken and supporting pickles and condiments with house fries with a really great seasoning. Service was great and staff are very friendly. Remember to take some cash for the tip jar!!

Nice (quirky) little restaurant in Jesmond. When we entered and sat down we were asked to move along to the tables at the end of the restaurant with no given reason which was a little bit uncomfortable (but wasn't a problem). The lady behind the counter (front of house) didn't seem too happy to be there. The music was uncomfortably loud which made it hard to relax. I think it's always worth remembering that not everyone can tolerate loud noise and not everyone likes the same music 🎶 which means it can quickly become the opposite of relaxing and ends up being more irritating and annoying than enjoyable. The food was AMAZING and the waitress who served us was first class (warm, friendly, accommodating, enthusiastic, reassuring and a genuine people person), which made the experience unforgettable for the right reasons. Yes, I would definitely recommend as I have family and friends that would love this place. It's not right for me - solely to do with the music/volume.

First time here and came to celebrate my grandson's 9th birthday. 3 kids and 4 adults - I had forgotten how loud 3 kibs can get when they get excited - apologies to the other very forgiving diners :-). I would describe the physical environment as rustic. The staff were friendly and patient. Nearby parking was good for an evening slot. The menu had a very good selection including vegan food for me. A good few of us had burgers and mine was delicious. Better than expected. We will go back.

Fantastic burgers, huge servings and excellent service! We had the mac & cheese balls (my personal favourite) and dirty skins as entrees - they were big enough to be a meal. The PB&J burger was a pleasant surprise, and the Hangover III (fried chicken and pickle) was great too. If you go between 5-7pm, entree and burger is just £10.90, excellent value!

Great location and we were able to find parking just outside. Had the trash browns starter and it was so dirty and delicious!! Just what we were hoping for! The onions on top were a little chewy but that was the only negative for this. We had the fat hippo and bubba gump burger for mains and literally have NO complaints about these burgers. Amazingly tender and flavourful and the patties were cooked perfectly for me - still a little pink (as you can see from the photo). Can’t wait to have another burger from here

So nice, we have only ever had delivery previously and could never fault the service from delivery. We where the only customers on the day we came and because of this we where served straight away, food was fantastic can't fault a single thing best burger I have ever had. Absolutely amazing food. Never disappointed with a fat hippo burger!! If you like cheese then the beer battered cheese balls are an absolute must! They are a starter but we got them as a side. Everything perfect. Staff attentive and cheerful. Small, intimate restaurant so definitely book if you want to try them out. 5* from us.

Great service, amazing burgers, best in Newcastle (in my opinion). There is another fat Hippo in the centre and for some reason the Jesmond site is just far tastier, go figure. Place is a little grubby, although that is the style they are going for it does seem a bit more run down than just industrial/upcycle. Me and my girlfriend had a great experience during our first time at Fat Hippo, so we took our friends from France with us for their first dinner out in the North East. Easily pre-booked online but once arrived our table wasn't ready yet. Not a big deal, we sat outside, had a drink and waited for being called by the staff. Meal was fantastic (once again), good service and appropriate prices considering the quality of the food and the size of the burgers and buns. Right now the restaurant is our first choice when it comes to have a burger or just for an informal and quick meal out.

The last visit wasn't the best as the outside area was out the sun and it was ruddy cold. I tried a takeaway over lockdown too but I live too far away for it to have travelled well. I've been here enough times over the years to know that this isn't the norm though! Food and drinks are delicious and service is great! Tried the vegan burger for the first time on this visit and was impressed. First vegan cheese I've had that wasn't truly revolting (still not great though 😅). I'm not vegan, food is food. If I can eat something tasty and it be a bit better for the planet then I will 👍 - I don't know who Rebecca is, but they sound honest AF!

Great burgers and helpful, friendly staff. Collection process during covid is really strong and works smoothly. Love the deep fried pickles and Cajun fries. Experience has taught my partner and I to always be deeply suspect of anything including vegan cheese but in this instance I can honestly recommend people try the veggie burgers, for example the Oprah Sin-Free is superb. The salsa is also a highlight with it's balance of fruity and spicy flavours.

Average place for a burger, early bird menu is good value but the full price menu is quite expensive and you pay separately for sides like fries or sweet potato fries. Burger menu itself is small but there is the option of customizing or adding to toppings. Staff are helpful and attentive. I found the burgers quite greasy -even the bun had grease on it, and the chips average. Milkshake was not creamy or thick enough for my liking, not sure if it's just a powdered mix. Not bad for a local joint but there are better burgers in Newcastle.

Really excellent burgers. Don't overlook the alcoholic milkshakes! Friendly and fast service. Seating for around thirty people. On-Street parking is available close-by depending on the time of day. Wheelchair users may struggle to get through the tight door, and there's no disabled toilets.

Came for lunch based on raving reviews from friends and it did not disappoint. It's a dinky little spot that has a variety of booths and tables. The other half had a PB+J which was a meaty burger with a side of chips, which definitely hit the spot and for £10.50 wasn't horrific pricing. We also had a side of Mac n cheese balls which were tasty and my personal favourite chilli cheese nachos which were quite a decent portion and again very tasty. I enjoyed their lunch menu which is one of their usual burgers but with a single patty rather than two and upgrades my chips to sweet potato. Again very nice. I would definitely recommend here for a spot of lunch and a place ideal for a date thanks to its small and quiet setting. If I have to be Negative I would say it seemed to be a bit slow device. Nothing major or really noticeable but maybe it's because we arrived as it opened. So all in all definitely worth a cheeky burger.

I love this little restaurant, it does fantastic burgers and loaded fries. Can't comment on anything else on the menu as I never look past the various burgers. They also sell a small range of local beers. It can get bust at times as it is popular. If your seated in the small side extension it can be a bit chilly in winter but just add some jalapeños and you'll be fine. Recommended.

Great tasting burgers, the dirty fries are delicious, as are the sweet potato ones. The lunchtime deal is cheap and while the portions are smaller than for the full meals it still fills you up. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is brilliant. Sit in the main section, not the area out the back, if you want good phone reception.

Great burgers, excellent value and sizeable portions. We shared the nachos to start which was good comfort food, and I tried the Hippo burger which I cannot fault for quality and taste. On the down-side, the service took a while to warm up, and the table had not been cleaned, but eventually things were fine and a great response to some cold dirty chips. Scrumptious food but no heating on sitting near front door not relaxing with no coat on! The reason I scored it 3 stars was the unfriendly welcome restaurant practically empty at 5 30pm yet we were given only 45 mins to eat our food then our table was needed yet 1 hour later still half empty! LOVE the fat hippo Jesmond. The food is always done perfectly, the staff are always friendly and helpful and the place just has a general good feel to it. The staff are very allergen and intolerance aware (I can't eat wheat), and the last time I went a very kind member of staff went out and got me some gluten free buns as the delivery hadn't arrived yet. Even if there is a problem here, it is never a problem. Top notch.

The menu has been refreshed since I was last there I went for the bubba gump burger it is very delicious, my only fault was that when me and my partner went in there were a few tables inside free but we're told they were booked so we sat in the outside seating area and the whole time we were ther the tables weren't taken again the only fault on that visit but wouldn't stop me going there again definitely.

Went to the one in town on Shakespeare street. Food was great and the staff were very accommodating. My only criticism is because it is below ground and it was very busy the noise level was so loud you it was hard to have a good conversation with out adding to the noise level. And with all the bodies in there it became very stuffy. But it won't stop me going again. Might avoid peek times on my next visit.

I've been going to this Fat Hippo for years now, it's great if it's just you and a couple of friends, music's on point, the atmosphere is quite friendly and since the refurb quite trendy. If, however you go with a party they tend to get easily overwhelmed and food will come late and cold (this has happened on 2 separate occasions in the past). I'd easily rate this location over the Underground as it's quiet and you don't feel like you're being rushed like you do sometimes during the rush at the Underground.

With more burger chains opening up around Newcastle, it's nice to remember that Fat Hippo was one of the first "hipster burger places" in the area. Their booze selection might be a bit rubbish and the seats aren't exactly comfortable, but they make a damn good burger.
