Visited on 03/01/22.. Thought we'd try this place on the Quayside for my wife's birthday. It wasn't particularly busy so we got settled in pretty quickly. Staff were friendly and attentive. We sat in the conservatory area which looks on to the Tyne and the bridges (nice). Ordered drinks and food and it all came in good time without any hassles. Food was fine. Quite generous portions too. We paid about £115 for the five of us plus a tip. Not bad at all at today's prices. I'd say the highlight of the evening was our friendly host Thomas (proper Italian) who made us feel very welcome and relaxed. What a lovely guy! Even serenaded us with his guitar and songs for the best part of 15 minutes! We sang and laughed and it was just the best end to the evening. Sometimes you can feel awkward on such occasions but we really just enjoyed it so much. We'll definitely visit again.. Thank you Sambucas and Thomas.

Lovely Italian restaurant, on the quayside. First time I have been there. Saw it when we visited Gino D`Acmpos restaurant which is just a little further up the road.A very informal place with excellent staff who are very friendly, great food and good value for money. Went to Sambuca to celebrate my son's graduation, this was the first time I went even though my wife had been with some friends and had insisted for us to go as she felt in love with the place. What an amazing find turned out to be, Staff was incredible, they couldn't be more helpful and jovial, the food was amazing, we were a party of 12 people and the service was fast, we were served within 20 minutes and again the Staff was so helpful and happy. The manager came to our table in repeatedly occasions to ensure we were ok and always making a fun comment and then the cherry on the top, a very friendly Thomas came with a guitar and sat with us and started singing to celebrate my son's graduation and ending our night just perfectly. What a hidden gem, this place should be in every city just to make any city happier and the views of the Tyne and the fabulous bridges was just fantastic. Can't wait to come back again.

Lovely service and delicious food. Only hitch was we booked a reservation a week in advance and upon arrival had to wait for them to prepare our table, this wouldn't have been an issue in itself. However, we waited by lovely big empty booths and tables to the rear of the restaurant but were eventually seated at a very cramped table squeezed in a too small gap right by the door/ walkway. Customers were bumping into us and using the backs of our chairs for support as they went past the whole meal. Only that one issue which was a shame as everything else was phenomenal.

We have been before, but not for a while and boy we’ve been missing out!! The foot was fantastic with the best service!! Beautiful 3 course meal topped off with a little sing song!! Harry (my 3 year old) said “I the best time” will definitely be back very soon!!

Really liked it. We just had the special for 7.99 which was starter main course and ice cream or coffee for afters. We had a window seat which was overlooking the quayside and I think it would be lovely at a night time when it's all lit up.

Lovely food and was pleased to see the familiar 3 course deal was on despite on the Quayside. Very accomodating for the babies although the building was not with lots of little stairs the staff helped us lift both prams. The staff also made lots of fuss over our sons and ensured our visit was enjoyable.

We've been coming to Newcastle from Coventry for a few yards now. Each time, we make sure to visit Sambuca. Always great food and great service. Thomas always remembers us, and this is why we enjoy coming to the Sambuca in Quayside. The 3 course meal for £6.95 is brilliant and the portions are pretty big. You get a choice of starter, main of pizza or pasta and dessert. On this occasion we just missed the offer, but we were stuffed from the mains on their own so didn't have room for dessert. We ordered the garlic bread for the first time and it was delicious. We ordered the Bolognese, lasagna, meat feast pizza and spaghetti and meatballs. There were no complaints from anyone as the for was nice. Pros - great food and great service Cons - cannot think of any As always, process are subjective. Please have a look at the menu before going in. We were really hungry, in hindsight the pictures would have been taken before we started eating.

We went to Sambucas for my sons birthday, table of 10 from age four to 87, once again we all had an amazing night, fun and laughter with Thomas our favourite waiter.. he never fails to have us laughing and singing at the same time providing great service! Staff were rude. I visited with a Youth group, the staff refused to take an order with the staff and asked the young people who weren't confident to speak their menu. But, that wasn't what made me write a review. The staff were rude and disrespectful clearing plates away whilst other members of the group were still eating. The food was standard for an Italian lunch menu. But wouldn't return because of the staff.

A nice, cheap and cheerful Italian, they do a lunchtime special which is something like £7.95 for 3 courses. We had the potato skins with garlic dip, ham & mushroom calzone with onions and strawberry ice cream for dessert which was very refreshing. If you're fancying an Italian meal in the city centre with the family but don't want to be ripped off during the process, then you could easily feed a family of four here for under £50. The staff seem quite cheery and fun as they were singing so it provided some atmosphere and the food is fresh and hot. I would recommend booking as it gets busy, try and get tables overlooking the Quayside if you can. My only niggles (if I had to pick any) would be that I would have liked BBQ dip also served with the potato skins, a choice of ice cream flavours would have been nice but it appeared that you could only have the one flavour which was strawberry and I would have preferred the onions inside the calzone to have been cooked instead of raw but overall this is a little gem in Newcastle and we will definitely be visiting again soon! I'd say it's nicer than Prima pasta over the road which is probably double the price but not as nice as Lollo Rosso in Morpeth so that may help give you some insight into where it sits on the Italian restaurants scale.

We ventured out for a nice meal, the first time since lockdown and headed here for our occasional special treat, surf and turf. We added a side of garlic bread and onion rings seeing as we had set aside the rest of the day to sleep this feast off. Our food, as always, was excellent, my medium rare steak done to perfection. My wife always scoops off my seafood as I'm not fussed about it but she said the king prawns were divine and her medium steak delicious. Sambucas have adapted to the challenge of social distancing and provide a good environment to safely enjoy your meal. We noticed as nearby diners left their tables and chairs were promptly disenfected by the excellent waiting staff. Sambucas is still the best value and highest quality dining on the Quayside. Keep up the good work Sambucas. We will be back soon 😊

Great Italian food and nice wines, good customer service and nice location in the hart of Newcastle city centre. Near the Tyne river, on the Quayside, you can enjoy a great view while you tasting great Italian dishes and wines. Pizzas or pastas, beef steaks or sea foods, everything is state of the art. I was actually pleasantly surprised at this chain of restaurant. The staff were helpful and responded well to us. We were checked upon by a waiter during the starter and main meal to see if everything was ok. The food was done to perfection and was of reasonable portion size and left us well fed. The food was great as always, but the service was lacking, possibly due to language barriers. We were given the wrong dessert I wasn't at the table at the time and my friend hadn't noticed, I couldn't get anyone's attention so I just ate it. We also had to ask for the bill three times. The toilet and baby change facilities are down 2 flights of stairs, it's quite dark and it smelled and didn't look clean. I asked if there was a disabled toilet but the staff didn't seem to understand me and just pointed to the stairs. If they do have disabled facilities it would make sense to also have a baby change area in the same space so parents don't have to struggle with there babies down the stairs. Currently this isn't a place I'd recommend to anyone with mobility issues, parents or for their customer service. Sambucas in gateshead is much nicer.

We sat on a round table in the conservatory overlooking the Tyne.....it was a gorgeous day too! I had the Penne Arabiata which included cream, ive never eaten this with cream before, it was delicious....I loved it. The pizzas looked great and my family thoroughly enjoyed them. Strict booking and track and trace.....however the waiter served the drinks leaning in each time ....I would recommend leave the tray and let the guests take the drinks. This is usual practice during these times. Due to this practice I wouldn't re visit at the moment.

I don't know if the excitement of reopening has got to these guys but the food has gone seriously down hill. My pate starter came with toast that was burnt and buttered on one side and soggy on the other - an amazing achievement. Prawn cocktail: flavourless no paprika. Seafood pasta also lacked flavour. Extra star because our seats had a great view over the Tyne but, overall, not good value for money.

I have always loved this sambuccas not only is the lunch menu on every weekday till 10pm (selected starters mains and a coffee for 7.95) but even out of the happy hours it's still extremely cheap, the little window seats look out over the Tyne and the staff are lovely. Not a bad word to say.

We visited on bank holiday Monday at 5 pm ,we were greeted by a friendly young waitress who sat us at a perfect enclosed table area for us just inside the entrance,there were 6 adults and 3 children the youngest who was 2.the staff all wore masks and on entry there was sufficient hand sanitiser and a register for customers to sign in.the service was prompt,very efficient and friendly professional service from all members of staff .nothing was a problem .the background music was great for our two year old who entertained all with his dancing. The food was excellent ,from king prawns,chicken kieves, pasta and pizzas, everyone enjoyed their meals.we will definitely visit again.many thanks to all staff.

Have been here twice. The first time I couldn't believe you could get the traditional 'cheapy Italian lunch' deal for £6.95 overlooking the river on Newcastle Quayside! I had potato skins followed by 1/2 pizza, 1/2 pasta and it was delicious. Went again last week. The lunchtime menu is now more expensive but with higher quality mains. Think was £10.95. I had tomato garlic bread followed by Chicken Parmo with chips. The garlic bread is a bit large for a starter for one. Had to leave some of both courses and was groaning for the rest of the afternoon. Overall a good to very good restaurant with tasty food, fast service and in a great location.

Drink wasn't expensive, £2.95 for a soft drink and a Strongbow cider was £3.95. The service was quick and the staff were polite at all times. I will definitely return.

Our main server was a guy named Thomas and his service was on point, always being at the table whenever we needed him! He even brought banter and laughs to the table, telling us about what it had been like in sambuca before the covid outbreak and even recommended my girlfriend the Eton mess which was just crazy in size! Beautiful views sat in the window here. The heat coming though the window was particularly uncomfortable an opened one would have helped. Service was ok at first however we were shocked when we saw a waitress stick he finger in another customers coffee as she complained it was not hot. Food could do with being far less oily though with the prices it's hard to expect much better. Not sure what the so called tiramisu was either, for an Italian based restaurant you would at least expect something close to authentic. Cream cheese and sponge doesn't cut the mustard.
