Expect a warm welcome on arrival, ideally situated a very short walk from a few hotels in the area and I can assure you they serve much better food. I ordered the mixed grill and as a big eater I was ready for the challenge but was really struggling at the end. The steak was cooked just how I’d ordered, sausages very nice with the nice addition of black pudding and a beef burger that really makes a mixed grill for me. Everything was lovely and I had no room for dessert although they looked amazing. Prices very reasonable for the size of the portions and the staff couldn’t do enough to ensure everything was to my standard. I was pleased to see they had two locally produced real ales on my visit which seemed well kept. I will certainly be visiting again.

The food here was absolutely gorgeous! Huge menu with lots to choose from and all reasonably priced. To top it all off the staff were honestly the most friendly people that couldn't do enough for you. I really can't wait to go back here!

The Skiff Inn is very welcoming and the food choices are brilliant, we chose pasta dishes, smoked salmon and king prawn and chilli both dishes were presented well and the flavours were well balanced. We call whenever we come up to Newcastle and we have never been disappointed.

The majority of the positives of this review, relies on the quality of the food, which was delicious. However the attitude of one member of staff in particular stunk. She had black hair died up in a ponytail (not the girl with brown hair and glasses, she was lovely). Our waitress however, had a very rough demeanour and was very abrupt and had incredibly poor customer service skills. Also what was infuriating was asking for the dessert menu, waiting 15 minutes for service, then giving up in the end due to no one providing service, despite the fact we clearly had put the menu to one side to indicate our readiness. I'd recommend the place for the food, but I do feel the price point of the meals isn't justified, as the service of some of the staff and overall customer service dragged our experience down.

Home cooked chips , and tremendous veg. If your in Gateshead Metfo Centre area or in Newcastle locally worth travelling to. Exceptional food and atmosphere. I had a risotto with chicken and chorizo, it was the best one I've had in a long time. Prawn aglio was sublime with big prawns and a generous portion of rice. Would love to come and dine in once the lockdown has been lifted. Then I'll get desserts if I manage to finish my food as there was so much.

Been told about this pub a few times but only recently went. Easy to get to and there is always parking. The food itself is amazing. Only had from the grill but every time the meat has tasted fantastic and the steaks are cooked perfectly. I've been told the pasta and pizzas are delicious and I can believe it. Me and my wife came to Newcastle for the first time booked the hotle at the side was this pub skiff Inn out side wasn't much to look at anyway still went in got a table for two & wow the meal we had was Brill burger & frys were cooked to perfection and price for drinks were good cheaper than hotel £590 for 2x Jd and coke & a gin also staff was friendly would definitely Recommend anybody to go here

We were staying at the Holiday inn express just next door. So this was the obvious choice. It's a family run business, so the food is not mass produced like you get in a chain. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was good. The food was tasty and well cooked, with good sized portions. We can thoroughly recommend this place.

Can't recommend enough. Great choice of home cooked food on the menu, fantastic choice on kids menu. So family friendly, nothing is a bother to them and made us feel really welcome with our 2 little girls every time we go. They have proper high chairs with tables which are lovely and clean, not those awful square wooden ones which get all sticky. We'll be back again and again!!

Here on business with a colleague. Staff were fantastic. The food was absolutely exceptional. Garlic mushroom starter was the best mushroom starter I've ever had. Chicken Kiev for main was sensational - add as much garlic as you wish. Sausage and mash was so tasty and filling and the garlic bread starter was massive!! All washed down with a nice bottle of Italian white. Massively recommended. Good job we're up here tomorrow as well!!! Straight back here for dinner!

Went for food, nice and roomy inside. The staff were courteous and didn't keep us waiting for orders. No check back, but that doesn't bother me. My food was spot on, really enjoyed it. Wow, what an absolute gem of a find this was! Please pay them a visit if you haven't been before! My wife and I must have passed here hundreds of times. On Saturday 3 Oct 2020, we were at MetroCentre and trying to find somewhere to eat that didn't have a massive queue or over an hour to wait for a table, so after much walking and driving around, we ended up here. I am so pleased we did, a truly fantastic authentic family run restaurant, with top quality freshly prepared Italian or traditional English food (and a wonderful children's menu, including real food, such as steak or steak and ale pie, not just beige food)! First class, friendly, personable service to boot! I had Sausage (proper Cumberland ring) and homemade buttery mash, with veg, crispy fried onions and gravy, it was so nice, my wife had a lovely hot beef sandwich with gravy and our daughter had homemade chunky cod bites, with bright green garden peas and homemade chips. We will definitely come back and I really hope they make it through this difficult Covid period.

A busy pub and no wonder, lots of choice for food and a great range of beers, lagers and other drinks. Reasonably priced too. We had fish and chips and a prawn sandwich. Good size portions and freshly prepared, the fish and chips must have come straight out of the pan, they were piping hot.

Visited the restaurant for 1st time on a Sunday last week. Very busy indeed but got a table for 2 within minutes ordered at the bar alongside with the drinks. Very quick service ,10minutes later food arrived, meat very thick but melted in the mouth ,Yorkshire Pudding nice and big ( homemade) but cold which was sad😂😭lots of fresh vegetables for your 5/ 7 a day. Very enjoyable but no one came and asked if everything was ok with the meals and if there had I would of past over my comments as stated above. I could had been a Mystery Shopper. 4 /5 better places to eat may not return total spend £24 plus. Food for thought!!!!!!

Delicious Sunday lunch. Pleasanrly greeted and seated as soon as we stepped in the door. Ordered Sunday lunch at a dedicated spot at the end of the bar . Lunch came out very quickly . Recently, and after absence of over two years, my wife and I visited Newcastle/Gateshead for a few days. An essential part of our trips had been an evening at the Skiff Inn. On a snowy night in January we made our way to the Skiff; had the privatisations of Covid19 taken its toll on this bar/restaurant? That question was answered as soon as we opened the entrance door. The inn was warm and welcoming but the atmosphere felt great but those feelings were outshone by the atmosphere. The chink of glasses, the laughter, the greeting from the staff carried the message - 'Welcome back!' The food, the drinks, the service were just as we remembered. Best of all - the staff couldn't have been more attentive. So, for great food/drinks, for great service, for a great time, visit the Skiff Inn and make it sooner rather than later.

Amazing visit today! My dad wanted to visit with it being his birthday. We booked in advance and the table was perfect. The staff were attentive, friendly and funny, and the food was beautiful! It arrived maybe 10 minutes after ordering, piping hot and delicious. As a veggie, trying to find a good Sunday roast can be tricky, but it was beautiful (I had the nut roast), although looking at the beef on everyone else’s plates, I could have been tempted! Great prices and great atmosphere! Do not overlook!!!

Was staying on my own at the Holiday Inn beside the Skiff Inn after leaving my daughter to Newcastle University. Checked the menue and reviews online and decided to go for a meal. The menue was right up my street, friendly staff and a good family atmosphere. My starter was delivered piping hot and was superb, main was great with real home made chips, staff asked was everything OK with the food on several occasions and took time to talk to me which is great when your dining solo. Also had a couple of pints of local dark ale which makes a change from branded only beers available in Northern Ireland. Great atmosphere, service, food and drinks at very reasonable prices.

We visit the skiff on a regular basis, on this occasion decided to have sandwiches. I had the steak sandwich found the steak be grisly and unable to chew, onions were cold. Offered a refund after refusing an offer of a replacement meal. The bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich the wife had was lovely.

When we were checking in to the nearby Travelodge before a night of heavy drinking, we happened to opine that we were considering going to the also nearby TGI Friday's for some pre drink food. The gentleman on reception suggested we try the Skiff instead and we were glad he did. Good quality pub grub at a fair price and a good selection of beers and lagers. Friendly staff and good, quick service. If you stay at the Travelodge this is the place to go for your food.

Good food. Nothing fancy but certainly not low quality. Good portions too. Staff were really good at service and attentive. Very fast service, low wait times for the meal. Sundays they do Traditional Sunday Lunch as well as Pizza and Pasta.

Just got home after celebrating my birthday with family here, including my young grandchildren. This was my 1st visit and hopefully not my last. Fantastic food, perfect staff (very accommodating) and an amazing family friendly atmosphere. We popped in here by chance as we had a super hungry toddler. The service was amazing. Papa Joe even brought a little dolly out for my daughter. We ordered a GF pizza, a child's pizza (which was ginormous) and a selection of starters: goats cheese, prawn cocktail and Halloumi fries. Everything was hot, well portioned and delicious. The goats cheese was absolutely amazing. Considering this was just a quick pop in as it was close we will definitely be returning.

I really liked this place, beat my expectations by a long way. Food was really good. My rump steak was great flavour and cooked exactly how I wanted it, £13 for rump steak that good and tasty was great. Pizza and pasta also was good. The staff were friendly and helpful and you did not have to wait to be served. Its somewhere I would go again if I was in the area. It was a Thursday evening and was busy but a table was found for us, it could get really busy here at times I would imagine!

Went for a meal after a walk around the Land of Oak and Iron Country Park, having seen the mainly positive reviews. We weren't disappointed. Upon arrival we were shown to a table and after a short while our orders were taken. The food - a fish and chips and a goat's cheese tart - was of a high quality, and the staff were extremely friendly without being sickeningly over-effusive. Overall it's one of the best eating-out experiences we've had in some time. We would have no hesitation in returning

The Skiff was recommended to me a while back. I wish I'd gone sooner. Probably one of the best pub meals I've ever had. Thought Wednesday might be quiet, how wrong I was. Luckily got a table for two quickly, but would definitely book next time. And there will be plenty of "Next times!"

Called in here a couple of times before the great plaque descended, just for a pint and let the 5 o'clock traffic go. Today same same, but we ordered food also. People may say it's just Italian, pasta, pizza, they would be wrong. A good chef can make a big difference and they have one here. By the time we left it was nearly full and most of the people were known by the staff, so obviously regulars, another good sign. Staff were very good and the place itself has a good feel to it.

I would highly recommend this local family owned restaurant. Very warm welcome on arrival. Food was delicious. Two people in our party said the garlic mushrooms were the best starter they had ever had! Steak fajitas were amazing also. Portion sizes were great, and good value for money. I have been going to the Skiff for years, taking my mother and disabled partner. Sadly after losing them, I didnt get to go so much. Recently, I have been back several times. It's so heartening that in times of change, today I was greeted by one of the regular staff. All of them welcome you as if you're old friends. Then the food - always cooked to an amazing standard and what a choice. I had the goat's cheese tart and it was exemplary; not your typical pub food. The menu is extensive, to suit everyone's taste and pocket. Highy recommend.

The number of people in the Inn on a Monday evening tells the tale. There was a constant stream of people coming in throughout the night for food. The quality of the food is second to none as is the quantity. All at a reasonable price. And don't forget the owner Papa John who is a lovely guy and mingles among his patrons.

We ended up in The Skiff Inn after a late check-in at the Holiday Inn, to have a diner with the kids. The steak must be the best I had in the last few years. Incredible service by the super friendly staff. The kids were given toys to play with by Joe himself. And the friendly waitress gave them a lolly as she noticed the kids being dead tired by the long journey. I’ll definitely be back whenever traveling from Belgium to Scotland.
