This came a recommendation from a local Newcastler and it was really good. An Asian fusion, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine. Freshly made sushi, nice presentation and friendly staff. The sake, soju and plum wines were really good 👍🏽

Nothing beats going £15 for 4 prawns and a massive plate full of rice. It was quite tasty but rather disappointing. My partner got the same dish but with pork instead, and he also received 4-6 pieces of meat. It’s like they count it out. Waste of money, as after 5 minutes you’re left with a plate of rice and nothing else.

Went today for lunch, I'm half Japanese and go to Japan regularly, so I wasn't expecting much in terms of the ramen. However, I'm pleased to say that I was very surprised. I'd say that the food in terms of ramen was relatively authentic, and unlike other ramen places, I could tell the difference between broth, which ordinarily at other places I cannot. The staff were very friendly and the service was great There seemed to be a good selection on the menu and this review is only based on what we ate today, see images. However, I think the price was reasonable and the food from today was as authentic as I've had so far outside of Japan in terms of ramen. So I'll definitely be going back. Great staff, good service and decent food. Would recommend

This restaurant serves high quality delicious food, all presented well. It has an extensive vegan menu and good gluten free options too. The servers are friendly and attentive. The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible, including toilet facilities.

Amazing food. Everything. Salmon maki, salmon futomaki, salmon and rainbow sets, katsu curry chicken, tempura vegetables. Awesome. The restaurant should improve service. Staff is very nice and helpful but cleanliness on the tables and the way of food service. Jug of water and all glasses were wet and a whole table was wet already. No chopsticks… really? We have to ask about it. List of wines could be better, more Japanese wines, please. And finally, the clothes of one of waiter was dirty. Absolutely amazing food and a few issues cost you 1 star. Cross the fingers and all the best.

two words: RAINBOW ROLLS! if you’re looking for good sushi, head to here and order the rainbow rolls. As a sushi LOVER i’ve tried a lot of sushi in my time and these rainbow rolls are some of the best! Headed back for lunch 3 days in a row just for these.

This is an amazing restaurant with good quality food and service. The Food was very fresh, delicious, and nicely presented. It's a classy place and well run. The menu looked quite expansive covering at least Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and Korean. The sushi was wonderfully plated and tasted very good as well. Had a great bowl of spicy noodles, juicy dumplings, a rice dish. All very good. The service was prompt and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back and recommend this place.

I really enjoyed our meal here and would return. There’s a lot of Asian selection on the menu without being over priced so it’s ideal to order a few and share to taste a variety. The sushi rolls were the best value for money - really thick and packed with filling, compared to the Korean fried chicken portion which was a little small. Attentive and friendly staff and whole place has a bright relaxed vibe to it.

great food - i only ordered a starter (crispy fried tofu) as it was late and it was a very generous portion. the sushi my friends had looked great. the waitress who served us was lovely even though we came late on in the night about an hour before closing. a much better alternative to wagamama - no ridiculous queue and much better, more authentic food. similarly priced though.

Really amazing birthday dinner! The food is excellent! Really great quality food & very friendly staff. Our daughter lives their aromatic duck bao buns so wanted to go for her birthday. They were so kind & made a special dessert for her which just overwhelmed her & we were all so touched by their thoughtfulness. Been two times now & will definitely be back again. The food here is lovely but the service was awful. We waited 30 minutes after finishing our meals before we eventually got the attention of a staff member. Then they forgot to bring the bill and so we waited another 20 minutes and eventually got the attention of another server, they did apologise when we explained how long we had been waiting and said they would bring over the card machine straight away. Another 10 minutes pass... It's such a shame because the food and drinks were great but hanging around for that long after finishing eating just isn't worth it!

Great place to eat at a very reasonable price. The waiter was very courtious and gave us time to change our orders and make sure our allergies aligned with the food we ordered. Friendly staff and chilled atmosphere. Food came piping hot and fresh. Portions are a great size and the food was absolutely delicious. On arrival, a woman who seated us was extremely friendly, as a party of 2 we received 6 menus in total. They have an extensive selection of drinks, specials, vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. As a vegan I am rarely ever spoilt for choice, I was blown away by all the different choices. Alogether we ordered: Deep fried tofu (starter - vegan) Sweet chicken with Jasmine Rice (main) Spicy Singapore Noodles (main - vegan) This totaled just under £25, which I thought was reasonable and worth the standard of food and service. We had 2 waiters attending to us when eating, this made things run very smoothly and we had our queries attended to very quickly. The portion sizes were very generous hence I couldn't finish my noodles, however our waiter was very helpful and packed my food for me in a container in a paper bag to take away. Overall, I wouldn't definitely visit again and I highly recommend you visit when if Newcastle, especially if you are vegan or gluten free because they have so many options for you.

Never had a bad experience yet and I've been quite a few times now. The food is also amazing! I'd highly recommend the sizzling plate and the Hong Kong iced tea. Service is great, recently served by Charlie who was excellent and knowledgeable about the food.

First visit. Wasn't expecting much but, wow! We were asked by server, Harry, about allergies etc before sitting, advised food will come as cooked unless requested otherwise. Ordered 3 dishes. Fried mixed platter, nice. King prawn sizzling platter, nice. Cook your own was a nice touch. King Prawn Udon noodles in spicy mala soup. Amazing! We ended up sharing this and forgetting about the rest. Staff were concerned how much we'd left but pleased when we gave our explanation. Absolutely will be returning

Very delicious food! The bao buns were great! Our server forgot to say the good is served as it is ready and that bao buns take 15 mins. Which resulted in one of us being served 10 mins after ordering but the other served bao another 15mins later. Watching someone else eat slowly for 15mins isn't the best mood builder. The good food made up for the wait.

Really enjoyed our meals here on our visit to Newcastle , nice clean friendly fair priced and daily specials . Crispy chicken Katsu curry for me was wonderful and my wifes king prawn sizziling hotplate was really tasty ,ordered skewers of chicken wings sticky coated on the daily special list ,drinks were fair priced in this nice relaxed atmosphere.

Frequent diner at Umai Mi, wide variety of options. The food is delicious and the extent of the menu does make deciding really hard! Incredible range of drinks options and they currently have an Olympic special meal or drink option. Food arrives when it's ready however you can opt to receive starters then mains if you wish. Highly recommend the Korean Fried Chicken. Following a lifting of restrictions on 19th July, staff at Umai Mi are still wearing facemasks (properly) which makes my dining experience more comfortable, tables remain well spaced and distanced from other parties. Staff are attentive and friendly. One of my favourite places to eat in central Newcastle.

Huge portions! And a great variety on the menu, looking at what everyone else was eating I really wanted to try it all. They are doing great with all the new covid measures too. I loved the freshly pressed apple juice (when they said it's fresh juice, I still assumed from a carton, but no, they definitely meant fresh!) which is great for when you're on a health kick. They actually have a pretty decent selection of drinks too. Can't wait to go back to try something different, the sushi was lovely.

Our waitress was really lovely and the staff were really helpful, I just didn't like my food... I've had better katsu curries elsewhere for much cheaper. I'd say a quarter of the menu was out of stock (which I know can't be helped) and we were told to look at another part of the menu online which made things difficult and confusing to order. For instance, I didnt even know you guys did boba teas until it was time for me to leave because I couldn't find it on either menus. Toilets were impressively clean and the general atmosphere was ok. Food got there quick, boyfriend enjoyed his meal but and the sushi starter was OK.

It was my first time eating at Umai Mi. I absolutely loved the food, specially the pork Gyoza and the salmon and Tuna set. The ingredients have a high quality and are very tasty. Beef Pho was ok, needed much more garnish and fresh herbs and better quality beef. Didn't leave me feeling like I'd just eaten pho. Katsu chicken curry was poor. Salty curry and dried out chicken. Spicy tuna sushi was ok, very hot. Char sui bao was good but not a traditional char sui bao. Fries were the best part of the meal, clean oil, crispy. Shame really. Ok overall, wouldn't go again though.

Tasty food but tepid service. Food comes out as a tapas style and is very filling. What let this establishment down was (some) of the staff. There was sadly a lack of attentiveness. From the start we felt ignored and were not greeted when stood waiting to be seated. From therein we were passed off between different waiters who seemed to walk past us time after time with empty glasses and plates on our table. A couple of the waiters were thankfully a little more welcoming and the food was very tasty. A mixed bag on the whole.

Really liked the atmosphere, the service and more importantly the food, a varied menu and a specials menu which gives you 2 courses £12.50 3 courses £15.00 per person (these are the prices at the time of the review). Good access, the tables at the back of the restaurant give you a more private dining experience. Well worth visiting. Asian menu courses are cooked to order and can arrive at different times, but this didn't spoil the meal, the deserts are a must. Enjoy!!

A wonderful experience.Went for a quiet meal with my partner on a Wednesday afternoon. My first experience with Umai Mi wasn't great. The sizzling hot plate was disappointing and the discount policy was made really unclear. Happy to report things have really turned around though and the last two times I've visited and ordered, the food has been incredible. Highly recommend the donburi dishes and the Korean fried chicken. The steamed custard buns are a must as well. Staff have since been really friendly and helpful too.

Would be 5 stars if there wasn't mistakes with our order. I was first served the wrong main course and a side order was forgotten about. We let it slide though as the food was brilliant. The food was good. The mapo tofu even tasted like it does in Japan. Good size portion. Only draw back was it was COLD in the place. For me to say it's cold, it's gotta be freezing. An Asian fusion food restaurant based in Eldon Square. Quite a large selection to choose from. Very friendly staff and efficient service. Based on conversations with the staff it would appear that they cook using ingredients that may invoke an allergic reaction - so you may wish to make this known. The set menus offer good value for money and provide genourous portion sizes.

Fried tofu, Korean fried chicken, crispy beef, chicken katsu curry, tempura ramen, ebi cocktail roll, green dragon roll and Tsing tao. Go for any of that and you won’t regret it. Obviously there are many other dishes however these are my favourite.

I’ve eaten there a couple of times, very reasonable prices for very good, freshly made and quite authentic food. There’s a nice atmosphere, the staff are helpful indeed and when I’ve made a reservation with a range of dietary requirements, they couldn’t have been more accommodating.
