Reviews of Four Pears Pub & Restaurant

Had some amazing food tonight with amazing company.
The staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming.
Yes it's a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for and this place is worth every penny.
I had the pork chop, with a potato terrine, roasted nectarine and cabbage topped with a very nice blue cheese sauce (not sure what the crust was, but it was nice).
Dessert was a raspberry and white chocolate (best flavour combination in my opinion) cookie with pistachio ice cream.

We went to the Four Pears with friends for a nice dinner out and we weren't disappointed.
The pub is very tastefully decorated throughout with a warm, cosy, family friendly atmosphere. There was an open mic night on and it was great to see plenty of people in the lounge enjoying the live music although it was a little on the loud side even through in the restaurant area.
Staff were very friendly and our waitress, India was fantastic, very helpful and very attentive she looked after us really well.
The food was superb. I had scallops to start and they were beautifully cooked lovely and tender with some nice caramelisation on the outside. I then had the lamb which was perfectly cooked and tasted fantastic. My wife had chicken which was tender and tasty.
For dessert I had Tarte tatin and my wife had a sponge pudding with bacon and Ice cream. Both desserts were excellent.
Cost wise it wasn't too bad. Three starters, four mains and four desserts, four gin and tonics, three bottles of decent wine two coffees and a port cost around the £250 Mark so £62 per head.
Overall it was a fantastic evening in a great setting with superb food and good wine. What more could anyone ask for!

This is a great pub/restaurant. Attentive, professional staff and a laid back, happy atmosphere. The food is gorgeous too. Most places seem to get the simple things wrong, but this place has an attention to detail required to make pub food delicious 😋

Wonderful Sunday lunch time with family. 10 of us, so a mixed bag of orders. Lovely sharing boards followed by great roast dinners with incredible Yorkshire puddings, and lovely sensitive deserts.
Well done and highly recommended. Jxx

Stopped by for a quick drink during a walk. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. We sat in the lovely courtyard garden and had a great time. Will definitely be going back to try the food.

We visited here for the first time 23/02/22 for an evening meal. All three courses were lovely, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The pub itself is really nice and set in a lovely location, we will certainly be visiting again

Absolutely delicious. Fantastic food, great service, can't wait to revisit.

I remember when this used to be The Red Lion and how it's changed! Popped in for a quick drink and was welcomed by lovely decor and a friendly bar person. Next time I will definitely try the food menu!
T. R.
We went there for my daughter's 30th birthday. The food was gorgeous and they really looked after us. Will definitely be going there again.

This pub is stunning. The friendly staff are extremely attentive. I liked the menu, as you can chose from a light bite menu, as well as the main menu. Not everyone wants to eat a large meal. They looked after our dogs too. Very impressed with this place. Very clean. Little houghton, Northamptonshire, is a stunning village too. Plenty of footpath walks to explore.

Went to the Pub on a Sunday afternoon, very quite lovely place, the service was very warm .
The food was excellent cooked , super delicious.
If you go please try the chocolate fondant!!!
Definitely will go again!!
Had such a wonderful time🥂
Thank you to all the staff ❤️

Sadly a bit of a disappointment this time after really enjoying lunch here a while ago. Everything was nice enough and there were no issues, but had been looking forward to returning and was hoping for an excellent meal.
P. E.
We had dinner out with friends and I must say this is one of the nicest meals I've had. The service was excellent and food was of high quality. Highly recommend.
N. H.
Lived in Northampton all my life but this was my first visit to The Four Pears, which I understand is under new management.
Highly impressed from the moment we walked in. Decor is lovely and finishing touches classy. Welcoming fire, which they relit for us later on so we could have coffee and mince pies.
Food was absolutely perfect, highly recommend the duck from the Christmas menu. Staff were friendly, attentive and couldn't have done anything more to make our visit a really enjoyable experience.
Great evening with friends.
I'll be back!
H. D.
A really lovely meal this evening, loved the pub and very polite staff, thank you I'd come very often but live an hour away. However will come again.
C. M.
Friendly staff, lovely quirky chairs in main bar area, restaurant was of a high standard. We will look forward to going back very soon on a warm summer's evening to enjoy the stylish beer garden area as we live close to the village and are new to the area so only popped in for a passing drink on our 10th wedding anniversary day out. Well keep bar with excellent choice of drinks. Dog friendly for those who need to know that.
K. A.
Just popped in for a quick beer on way home. Looked nice place and would go back and try the food.

Four of us went to The Four Pears on Saturday evening..
First visit and must say we were very impressed with the whole experience.
It is a lovely friendly place and we were made to feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door.
The decor is lovely and the place has a wonderful ambiance.
The meals were delicious and the waitresses were very attentive and helpful throughout our time in the restaurant.
Will definitely be returning to The Four Pears.
M. d. c.
The service was good & the food ok. Not likely to be visiting again for a while. Not memorable enough
V. J.
When you haven't seen your family for far too long, this is exactly the place to make the reunion worth the wait.
Just enough like home to feel relaxed, enough fancy to feel special, enough care in the service to feel truly welcome, and more than enough soul in the food to know you'd never make anything so delicious at home. It was the perfect balance of all this without being pretentious. And the story of the Italian wine! I wanted to take home every bottle <3
We loved every minute of our time with you! And we've already decided to make it our regular place to get together in the future.
Thank you for making our night so special. We could feel the love you put into your place and we can't wait to come again <3

Great Pub....Good quality beers, decor is pub area is beautiful. Outside seating area is excellent and sheltered well and away from the main road. Next thing to try is the restaurant with the Burnt Lemon Chef's high quality menu!
a. l.
So excited to see the doors to this wonderful pub reopen. The Burnt Lemon food is fantastic, hearty, well cooked and excellent quality dishes. We had take away during lockdown twice a week, loved being able to sit in the pub this week and see the staff and the locals too.
The ambience is chilled, the staff are warm and friendly and we feel so lucky to have such a brilliant pub in our county. Well done all!
A. E.
My first visit late afternoon so it was quiet. A warm welcome from the two young ladies behind the bar and prompt service. The establishment is very tastefully furnished and decorated, in my experience, not what I would call a drinking pub after work 🤔, but I could be wrong.
I reviewed the menu which looked varied and fairly priced. However, I saw no evidence of any food which I will remedy on a future visit!
B. F.
The best night at the 4 Pears! Under new management and with a new chef. The food was amazing - particularly the crispy chicken wings and the beetroot tacos. The staff are all brilliant but particular shout out to Danny who is amazing. Garden looking great too.
n. l.
Nice going back for a beer on a Sunday lunchtime, attentive staff and a warm welcome after such a long time.
M. D.
Charming spot, with excellent food, good prices, and friendly service! Highly recommended.
B. H.
The Four Pears was extremely welcoming with lovely staff, just what you want from a Village pub! It was clean and spacious with a brilliant atmosphere and great food.
H. W.
Excellent food. Really lovely staff and really helpful.
Slightly expensive but worth it .
Will definitely go again
M. P. F.
My family and I had a lovely lunch, one of the highlights of my first visit to the area. The food was well made and presented, the waiting staff a delight, very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend.😁👍
R. r.
Lovely food. Nice location. Attentive staff. Overall a very pleasant experience. Thank you.
D. H.
Had a very nice evening with my wife celebrating our wedding anniversary. They have a good range of drinks, especially gin. The staff were friendly and helpful and allowed us to order and eat at our own pace.
I was worried about the amount of options on the menu but I needn't have. The food was delicious and of good quality. We had three courses and could not fault anything.
Thank you to all the staff for a welcome and relaxing evening.
m.
Fantastic flavours, great friendly service, get in while you can, this place is going to be number 1 in the area. Really enjoyed our meal. Thank you.
M. N.
Enjoyed the meal .And service. As several of us were in the catering business in prior years . Excellent in all areas beautifull presentation. .Also enjoyed the area where we sitting.
K. L.
Bit of a frosty reception from some of the locals when we arrived, which was unnecessary and annoying, but the pub was nicely busy for 7pm on a Friday. Staff are excellent, well trained and knowledgeable - good service provided throughout.. Somewhat let down by the kitchen - Pigeon breast as as starter was overcooked and was tough, main course was steak & ale pie, which was OK, but the steak had been cut too small and was a little dry. I must stress that I was in a minority in terms of my views on the food (only one to have the pigeon and other pie eater was happy), but I have to call it as I see it. I did mention the pigeon to the waitress and was offered an alternative, which I declined. Previous visits here have been excellent, so hopefully this is just a bump in the road,
T. P.
We were brought here for a welcome meal with work.
Beautiful little village which I've driven past many times but now a reason to stop and enjoy what must be one of its best features.
Beautiful pub, friendly and welcoming staff and the food is an absolute delight.
Do try to visit, you will be pleasantly surprised.
I. D.
Good food, service good. Quality Pub food. Was a quiet day on our recent visit. Nice cosy bar area. We have been a number of times and never had a bad meal, which is very good, as usually in a party of 8 to 10 people. Would recommend.
J. S.
Good food and very good young staff.
A. N.
Thoroughly love the food, staff are friendly and helpful
C. B.
Sunday lunch hooray!!! Nice service... nice food... good Sunday. Wine list amazing... not many pub have some decent wines on offer. Really enjoyed it. And yes I recommend
C. G.
The staff is friendly, the food is nice, the pub is lovely but a little bit expensive. It is located in a lovely village, nice after a walk from washlands.
P. G.
Staff could not have been better and the food was cooked and presented very well. Modern looking interior .....and the beer was good as well. It's worth a visit.
D. R.
I always find the Four Pears very welcoming, and the decor is of a high standard. It is well presented, but you don't feel uncomfortable if you come in wearing old work clothes or muddy boots.
The last time we visited for Sunday dinner all the food was well prepared, and while the menu was not huge there was enough to cater for most tastes. I started with the mussels: a good size portion, and the cream sauce was excellent. Roast beef for mains, again easily enough food, the meat was of good quality and well cooked.
I have heard several people say that the food can be a bit "hit or miss", I have eaten there a few times and am yet to have a bad experience, but that could be down to luck. I would honestly say that dinner I had with friends was one of the best that I had eaten in Northamptonshire.
R. P.
Excellent food friendly staff, beautiful ambient.
V. G.
Great place, lovely food and great service
S. O.
A traditional pub from the outside, but very modern layout with furnishings to match inside. Just went during the bear festival for Little Houghton village and sat in the inner courtyard on a hot sunny August day. Friendly staff, with an interesting menu which I will try next time around.
J. G.
A breath of fresh air. Lovely ambience. Exciting dishes. Tentative staff. Look forward to going again.
F. J.
Lovely food and wonderful service . Can't recommend enough.
B. R.
Have used the Four Pears numerous times and booked for lunch on Saturday 13 January as my 89 year old mother wished to treat my sister, my husband and I as her guests. Only two covers there as we arrived for 2 pm but waited quite a while to have our order taken. Young female very inexperienced waitress got one of the drinks wrong then risotto ordered as a main meal arrived as a starter and side dish of spinach missing! Another starter portion of risotto arrived to be eaten after the first one! The young man who tried to sort out the mess was very helpful and did his best in the circumstances. Suggest more training be provided for waiting staff! The food as usual was excellent but felt let down as I recommended the restaurant as being one of the better ones. BR
O. K.
Popped in for a drink and snack. Good beer, unexpectedly nice whitebait and friendly service. Interesting menu too, along with striking decor. I'll be back with guests for an evening meal asap.
R. R.
Great pub. Pleasant walk up through the flood plain from Abington. Drinks cost a small fortune (a tenner for 2 drinks) but a very welcoming atmosphere. Great cheese board.
E. B.
Plush... friendly and general ambiance welcoming. More importantly, the ale is well kept and staff friendly. Slight lack of drinking/eating seating is made up for by luxurious armchairs. Four stars. Food... watch this space. Space duly watched? Well, Crispy Pig starter - words fail me. Not in a 5* Claridges sense but by God that is nice. Apple and tiny bit if panchetta is excellent.
Steak and ale pie was lush... 'specially with a tiny bit extra seasoning in the pie sauce. All in all bloody lovely. If there were halves... it'd be 4.5 *.
Lovely selection of simple and less simple wines to boot.
S. H.
Varied menu with good wines and friendly pleasant staff.
Well cooked and lovely presentation, generous sides.
Definately worth a visit.
W. H.
Good food, reasonably priced, wasn't very busy, so lacked a bit of atmosphere, otherwise highly recommend.
I. S.
Had lunch here for three days, having a different meal each day and each dish was great. Smart yet cosy, in short very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
R. W.
Lovely food , great pub
D. B.
Nothing wrong with the food it was really good but we had to wait for a while more than we expected as we had to pre order our food a week before , also after we was taken to our table we was just left there no staff came back to take a drinks order, if this staff was more attentive I would give 5 stars .
J. S.
This is an excellent pub, possibly my favour. It's also in a lovely little village that's a great area to walk your meal off after you've eaten
T. B.
Nice decoration, lovely food. Not rushed and friendly staff.
G. M.
The decor was extremely stunning the pub gave me massage that the owners cared and put alot of effort in making there mark .modern with comfort open and clean⭐⭐⭐ ......as for the thing that we all go to pubs for the food lucked inspiration......pasta was one colour and burger was just fried chicken from a box and burger was just that ...from a box ....am not asking for Rosette standard...but I would like to see some flare from chef on the menu....or even the kitchen manager if that the correct terms..I will go back but in great expectations .fingers crossed
g. l.
Excellent food and service.
R. S.

Excellent New Years eve meal. Service couldn't have been better and the food was beyond our expectations. Great night!
G. W.
Buzzy atmosphere, live music some days. Good log fire these chilly evenings and good food at competitive prices in the restaurant. Tastefully decorated.
E. H.
I've been here a few times as I live nearby. The food is good but service is very slow, staff are not very attentive. Last time I went I had struggled to get there on crutches and was turned away even though the place was empty. Always make sure you book.
F.
Had a lovely evening, The pub is really nice and cosy. Staff really friendly and food delicious will be back.
h. t.
Fantastic food & extremely good service, I would say one of the best Sunday roasts I've ever had, yhank you for looking after us. Howard & family.
R. D.
The food and ambience was good, just a little disappointed they promote a sample menu on their website as I was looking forward to a particular main course before attending that appeared to be the only item changed on the sample menu.
K. M.
Good food & a decent G/F selection. Nice relaxing setting but a little slow on service.
D. R.
