This is a great fish restaurant in a beautiful place on the Norfolk Broads.
It's very popular so it's usually necessary to book in advance but out of season walk-in is possible.
It genuinely only serves fish- no meat or vegetarian option that I could see.
Service was efficient attentive and good. The food itself was really nicely done. The flavours are quite delicate rather than being hearty. Don't expect a battered fish or fish stew option. (Based on the menu we saw and food we had)
We'll definitely be back soon. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Great food, excellent service and very relaxed atmosphere. Before we left the restaurant on our first visit we had booked again. Possibly the best place to eat anywhere on the Norfolk Broads The panacotta was amazing.

Probably one of the best seafood restaurants I've ever eaten at. Small and cosy. Book in advance you won't be disappointed. We went for starters, mains & dessert. Food cooked to perfection

I rarely post restaurant reviews as hardly ever find any that are deserving of it but last night we had one of the finest meals we’ve had in a long while. It was proper seafood, fresh and tasty. The youngsters serving were so nice and efficient and so I say to the owners, thanks for a great evening. We live in Cambridge and too many chain overpriced restaurants so it was such a joy to eat with you. Thanks so much. We’ll be back.

Absolutely perfect! I expected the fish to be good, (and it most certainly was), but the veg selection was a revelation. So many restaurants really don't seem to care, a few bits of green stuff will do. It is wonderful to discover a restaurant where the chef feels every component part of the meal is important. I really look forward to coming back and introducing more friends and family to this fantastic little restaurant.

Coming to this restaurant for last 5 years and aleays amazing food, staff and service

I have been wanting to visit this restaurant for some time as I am a fan of fish and the reviews have always been positive. We both ordered the same items off the menu. Fresh dressed Cromer crab to start, followed by pan fried Halibut for main and for desert we went for Panna Cotta and the Belgian Chocolate pot. All of the food was perfect. The crab was fresh, the Halibut a decent sized portion and cooked just right. I must mention the French fries too, as these were first class. The deserts were also a delight. Service was great, the team worked so well together and the atmosphere wonderful due to its relatively small size (25 covers maybe). I would have no hesitation going back here and if I lived closer then I would be a regular, with a mission to try everything on the menu. Fabulous.

Good atmosphere as we walked in, we were welcomed by a member of staff who was very welcoming. We visited with friends and everything we chose off the menu was well cooked and presented, we would all recommend a visit to Bure River if you are in the area.

Delicious seafood - everything perfectly cooked. Great selections of food. Service was quick. Feel covid safe - waitresses with visors and handgels available at the front/by the toilets.

This is a great local seafood restaurant. Lovely staff and really fresh and good seafood. Prawns, crab and fish are all really well made. Definitely a visit if you're in the area.

Every dish was a delightful experience for the senses. Seafood cooked to perfection. Definitely worth the drive to experience the food again! 😋

Excellent fish restaurant. Honourable mention also for the light and silky cauliflower purée which I would have happily eaten a whole bowl of. Good value given the quality of the food.

As a vegan, it's difficult to review a seafood restaurant but I was offered some superb food and I think their kitchen team did a great job. Delicious and I highly recommend.

We are staying in Horning for our 25th wedding anniversary and saw the reviews for the restaurant so we booked a table, we had a warm welcome and a lovely table by the window.
For starters I had the scollops and my husband had the Mackerel both were lovely, for mains I went all out and had the lobster and hubby had whole sea bass both were excellent for desert I had the panna cotta hubby had ice cream we enjoyed the meal very much and would highly recommend a visit if your staying nearby.

Lovely seafood restaurant. Never had a below par meal there.
W. N.
Very good meal, staff very polite although the service could have been a bit quicker
J. W.
A fantastic restaurant for our first meal out. Found this with great reviews and lived up to expectations. We had three courses each and everything was stunning. Plus English wine and coffee for £98. Staff all very covid careful and still a lovely atmosphere despite spaced out tables. I couldn't fault anything.
P. J.
Nice food, we both had the Skate wing, and the chocolate pot desert with salted caramel ice cream was delicious. Staff very welcoming and friendly.

Had our 31st wedding anniversary dinner here last night and it didn’t disappoint!
The food was lovely, freshly cooked and stayed hot too.
We both had the cod .
Lots of choices on the menu, service was quick and staff knowledgeable.
Our first visit here and we’ll definitely be back soon I hope .
L. D.
The staff were friendly the food was amazing and overall very good value for money for the quality you get. We will be visiting again!

Lovely setting and nice interior. It was my birthday so we booked their speciality lobsters for 6 people. Disappointed to only receive a smallish 1/2 lobster each. (We were only charged for a half lobster though.) Starter of scallop was nice, but smallish again. There was a problem with fans and heat (they had big wooden screens up which seemed to stop any airflow.)
Service was OK, but looked and acted rather tired. They didn't really want to engage with the customers. All in all a pleasant meal, but not a celebratory one.

I booked 6 weeks in advance to get a table, which says it all about this restaurants popularity, it was worth the wait. The food and service were excellent. A lovely evening in a beautiful part of Norfolk.
S. A.
Absolutely fabulous food seasoned to perfection, and fab desserts great wine choices and perfect service great all round from start to finish. Recommended highly congratulations to all staff for making a great restaurant
M. M.
Super clean, classically executed seafood, made with locally sourced ingredients is good enough but as an added bonus the chef has an incredible flair for deserts...

Visited Bure River Cottage this evening for the first time whilst staying in Horning village.
A superb seafood restaurant which we can highly recommend. Our food was absolutely delicious and the staff we encountered friendly and efficient. Many thanks. Next time we are visiting the area we shall definitely return.
P. M.
Enjoyed everything about this. Great food with a wide selection served by lovely staff. Looking forward to my next visit. But don't go if you won't eat fish!
S.
Excellent food, brilliant service, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. My girlfriend and I both had their local caught lobster for a main, with her not having tried lobster before. When commenting this to our waitress she let us know if we had problems getting into it to let any of the staff know and the chef would happily crack it open for us.
You will definitely need to book a table in advance, we visited on a Tuesday night and it was fully booked.
A great place for seafood fans and newbies alike.

Stunning seafood restaurant in a lovely Norfolk Broads setting. My crab and bream were superb and my wife was delighted with her scillops and pate. We shared the chocolate pot for pudding which was sublime. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.
B. G.
Excellent sea food, with 1st class service. A definite one to visit again when in the area.
B. L.
Visited August bank holiday weekend. Food was delicious. Spoilt for choice in terms of fresh seafood. Had starter and main and could not find room for dessert. Comfortable and well organized in the Covid era. Definitely will go back.
M. B.
Amazing food, lovely staff. Planned to visit the restaurant as part of our Norfolk trip from Yorkshire and we were not disappointed. Will definitely recommend - though will recommend booking in advance as understandably such a hit has limited availability!
A. S.
Very nice restaurant. Staff are lovely, friendly and inviting. Food is fantastic! Hot, fresh and very tasty! No rush to get you out of the door. In my opinion, everything is perfect.
Great job guys. A wonderful evening!
M. M.
Excellent menu with an astonishing choice of fish and seafood. The king prawns had been prepared properly with a cut along the back which unfortunately you don't find in every seafood serving place around here. We had Dover sole and turbot, both perfectly done and served with a beautiful side dish of vegetables. Our deserts were lovely too although I missed my favourite, fresh fruit salad, which I always find rounds off a seafood or fish dinner perfectly. But this could be just me, so well done Bure River Cottage! We'll be back.
L. G.
Absolutely fantastic evening, food was outstanding and the service was warm and friendly. We will definitely be back soon ❤️ A lovely birthday meal.

What a fantastic find to end our Boating holiday. A really cosy restaurant for fish /shellfish lovers. I had the mackerel pate followed by a whole grilled lobster in garlic butter. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Served with a lovely selection of potatoes and vegetables. I think this is an upmarket place, but the prices are reasonable (£30 for the whole lobster) for high quality food, beautiful presentation and cozy surroundings. Thank you for a lovely end to my holiday.

Restaurant has been refurbed and is looking as fresh as it's food. Service was as friendly and welcoming as ever. The ambience of the place is just right. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and we were the last to leave. We would have stayed all night if we could it was so enjoyable. The quality and freshness of all of our food we ordered was outstanding. This is our 4th visit and think we need to go more often as the key to any good restaurant is consistency which they have oodles of. Little tip the baked chill crab is one of the most tastiest starters I have ever had, the sea bream was cooked to perfection and the chocolate pot with salted caramel ice cream was utterly divine. Amazing evening and we will return soon.

Beautifully cooked, beautifully presented, real culinary pleasure. Certainly one of the best restaurants I have been to in Norfolk. Went with my mother and daughter, we all had something different, and we all had the same views about how nice the food and, indeed, the whole evening was, with the easy going, relaxed, but attentive service.
B. W.
Excellent cooking, and friendly atmosphere. We had a very good meal with fine fresh seafood well cooked without over complication. Nice atmosphere and attractive simple décor. The place was fully booked for several nights-and deserves to be.
A. B.
Lovely fish restaurant with friendly and efficient staff, a must to visit (if you like fish!). All the meals were excellent, including the desserts (if you can fit one in). If you are spending time on the broads there is some limited mooring close by with plenty within a mile. Don't miss it if you're in the area.
C. H.
Absolutely stunning meal - super starter King Prawns in Garlic and then the thickest piece of Cod I have ever seen, cooked to absolute perfection, with cockle and crab sauce, chips and veg divine. Lovely service and great ambiance.
E. S. W.
Had dinner here last week, four of us and we all had a beautiful meal. I had scallops and lobster, absolutely delicious. Lovely ambiance excellent service and would highly recommend.
D. B.
Perfectly cooked prawns to start, delicious mains of cod and sea bass, mind blowing chocolate dessert. If you're in Norfolk and like good food and service, this place is a no brainer!
D. L.
OK. Not awful, but not brilliant. Fish beautifully cooked, but could've been a slightly more extensive menu. Fruits de Mers or crab/lobster - in fact any shell fish as a main - would've been good. Chips/veg same portions for two, as it is for one - which I find a bit of a rip off.
M. H.
Excellent in all respects. Great fresh fish. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.

After hearing many good comments about Bure River Cottage Restaurant I decided to finally give it a try myself. I was not disappointed! Everything about the meal was exceptional, this has to be the best meal I have had in a long time and I do not say that lightly!
To start I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly, with a zingy salsa verde. Mum had the oven baked crab with ginger and chilli which was also delicious. Having never tried swordfish I opted for the chargilled swordfish steak for mains. This was beautifully succulent and the tomato jam complemented it without overshadowing the flavour of the fish. To finish we shared a light and creamy panacotta with vanilla poached rhubarb. If you like fish and seafood cooked properly partnered with spot on flavours I urge you to try this restaurant.
F. P.
The restaurant is a lovely place to eat as the cook really understands fish and the flavours are fresh and unfussy. I loved the crab, had cod with samphire and crab. My other half had an equally delicious dinner.
j. w.
Excellent meal, perfectly cooked scallops, sea bream and fantastic warm chocolate brownie. Staff were attentive and a the place is cleanly decorated, open and I like that there was no music only the quiet chatter from other tables. An easy 5 star
P. W.
Really nice locally sourced seafood and great service even with Covid controls. Quaint little restaurant with a lovely vibe and great surroundings on Bure river. Highly recommend

Just had a wonderful meal in pleasant surroundings. Staff very good. Wine good and food and wine all reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

Crab starter was lovely. Plaice main good. It was very nice but not quite as good as we were expecting. Lacks a bit of ambience.
N. S.
