We first visited Chamthai when we were on holiday in Norwich. Now we live here and we have Chamthai as our 'local'. Thai The food is tasty, fresh and the portions are good. The owner, La Or, is the friendliest lady on earth! We have lost count of how many times we have been there and I am sure we will keep on going there for many years to come! We love Chamthai!

Last minute valentine's day dinner with friends went very well. First, they were easy to find on the map. Yup, we found and picked them via Google maps. Next, they werevery helpful with finding parking nearby. We got a table in three to five minutes despite not having a reservation and though it was a busy night. The lady who waited on us, was quite helpful in picking our meals. We all had Ginger ale, which was nice. Our order came slightly a longer than I anticipated, but I guess I was too hungry😊. The prawns, rice and noodles were different -sweeter than expected. I'd hoped for a proper spicy meal. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner, as did my friends.

The food was amazing! Lots of great options (many vegetarian options too!) It was absolutely delicious. Hospitality was very warm and welcoming. We waited for quite a long time for the food to arrive but we thought it was worth it!

Delicious, authentic Thai! Probably the best Thai place in Norwich now. A couple of the smaller dishes were a bit dry and disappointing, but most of the food was excellent.

Typical smiley friendly Thai service, and the food was absolutely delicious. However, service was very slow even though there were just a few tables, so just make sure you're not starving when you turn up.

We were not very hungry but wanted to have some food before leaving Norwich. So ordered a stir fried mix vege, fish gang pa (spicy village curry) and a portion of steamed rice to share. Both dishes tasted soooo good. Very authentic Thai food! The spiciness of the curry was perfect, we'll be fine if it's spicier though. The auntie who served us was sooo friendly and too bad we couldn't stay longer to try more food as we had to catch the train. Will definitely go back to this restaurant! Highly recommended and five stars undoubtedly!

Genuine Thai food and exceptionally friendly service! We've been to Thailand many times and love the food so were keen to try this place. The owners, a husband and wife team from Kanchanaburi, were warm and welcoming. My wife mentioned her favourite Thai dish which is never on any menus in England, and the owner asked her husband if he could make it - he said yes, even though he needed to improvise some of the ingredients. The result was perfect (see photo) and my wife was overjoyed. We also had a red curry and fishcakes, all were excellent. Highly recommend for friendly service and excellent food, we will be back soon.

Really authentic tasting Thai restaurant run by a very sweet and friendly lady and her husband in the kitchen. The most delicious Thai food I have eaten outside of Thailand - highly recommend the whole steamed fish and spicy papaya salad.

Best Thai meal I have had outside of Thailand. Super fresh ingredients, very tasty, the spice level is just right - when they say it is hot it is hot but perfect for those of us who like spice. So many Thai restaurants say that their hot is hot but the level is really only about medium. Having said that, for a Thai person this might be on the milder side. Very friendly staff and quick and efficient service. If I have any quibble with the restaurant it is that the decor could do with a little more warmth to make it more inviting. A minor quibble for a place with good prices and really tasty fresh food.

Authentic Thai. Food was delicious and staff super friendly. I’d prefer the lighting not to be quite as bright though to make it a bit cosier inside. My friend had bad potatoes in her Massaman curry but they knocked 50% off and were very apologetic so all good.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. It serves authentic Thai food at reasonable prices. The service is friendly and welcoming. It’s a small restaurant with a small kitchen so it is advisable to book. The only two minor criticisms that I have is that on the last visit we had to wait a long time for the food to be served (as we arrived just after a large table had had their order taken) and all the dishes when they came were quite ‘sweet’ (presumably to suit the British palate). Despite this I would still recommend this restaurant.

I eat at many Thai restaurants as I travel for work and Thai food is the best option for my dietary needs. This restaurant however, this one is superb. It's quiet and we'll furnished. It's well placed in a corner of the centre of Norwich on St. John Maddermarket. The food is the best I've had so far in 15 years of visiting Thai restaurants. There are the usual favourites, Tom Yum, Green Curry, Red Curry etc. But, it's the other more regional dishes that make Chamthai shine. Try some of those you may not have heard of. The balance of herbs and spices in some of these new (to me) flavours is wonderful. The staff are courteous as one expects in Thai restaurants but, they're also very well informed on the origins and customs around the food. A must if you're in Norwich.

One of the best Thai places we’ve ever been in the UK (and that says a lot!). Such a lovely place with amazing food! Good portion size. We were in Norwich for 2 nights and had our dinner for both nights. The food reminded us of home and Thailand! We especially loved the tomyum and somtum. Can’t recommend this place enough. We will definitely come back again (and again!).

Lovely food and wonderful friendly service. We went for my son's birthday (his choice!) and the staff were great - it's really family friendly. The kids loved the food - the 1 or 2 chilli rating was just right.

It was an impulse meal and I was glad I gave in to that temptation. To start I was presented with complimentary prawn crackers then had a chef recommended Thai soup (Chicken Tom Pa) fragrant rice with egg (Khao Pad Khao) and spicy stir fried pork (Pad Chaa?) . The portions were generous and I ended up taking enough home for a second meal. Two courses with a Singha beer came to just under £25.

My new favourite! Probably the best tom yum and green curry in Norwich. This place is fabulous. It is family run and very authentic, not a drop of coconut milk in the tom yum! So full of flavour! Last night we ate at Chamthai Soul Kitchen on St. John Maddermarket, Norwich and after a warm welcome we enjoyed the company of La-or and her husband who is the head chef in the kitchen. The food truly is soul food and packs the punch you would expect from Thai cuisine. Sweet, salty and spicy there is something to satisfy everyone. We found plenty of new traditional dishes to try and even took away some tips to try at home. Chamthai is a little off the main drag but I would recommend searching out this gem of a family restaurant.
