Reviews of Gem of Norwich

We walked in, and the ambience was exactly what we were looking for, elegant but not stuffy. The staff were super polite, courteous and helpful, ready to answer any questions about the menu or wine. The restaurant features a variety of Turkish dishes with their signature mix of modern, traditional and regional cuisines. I would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Situated at the corner near the train station. Service was excellent the staff knows their menu well and interacted very well with customers. Vibes in the restaurant was very lively. We walked in without reservations around 9pm twice and they had seats. Especially love the lentil soup and the Iskandar which is meat with yoghurt and creamy sauce over croutons. The moussaka wasn’t as good as we expected though. Nevertheless Highly recommended.

What a delicious and delightful experience. Service was quite fantastic. Prompt, polite and attentive staff serving amazingly tasty dishes.
We ate from the set menu which consisted of us choosing the main dish and then the chef selects everything else. Honestly for me (a fussy eater) it was the best choice ever.
Five stars only because I can’t give more.
Truly the Gem of Norwich.

An incredible selection of Turkish and Kurdish dishes are available here. We don't know this cuisine well so asked the waitor for recommendations, but he offered very little help, so we decided on a set menu which was an absolute delight. The mezzes were all as tasty as they were diverse.
We had the opportunity to pick our mains, we chose the Iskender with Chicken Shish, this was the real star of the show that I encourage everyone to try. The Imam Bayildi didn't quite live up to it, but was satisfying nevertheless. The wine list here was also very interesting, though sadly the waitor once again didn't really offer us help when we asked, we ended up picking a Turkish white which actually paired veey nicely with the set menu. Some amazing other wines were available, covering the mainstays of the old world, but we feared we might pair incorrectly, as we are very experienced with wine but much less so with Kurdish cuisine - a potentially expensive mistake.
We absolutely loved our meal here, and would strongly recommend anyone in Norwich to visit. We do wish our particular waitor was a little more helpful and attentive, and it's that reason alone I can't quite justify five stars. That said, we saw other tables had service from someone I assume to be a maître d' or owner, and they seemed to have excellent service by comparison.

Gem is always good, the quality and flavour of the food is excellent plus the service is very good.
Yes the prices have crept up significantly over the last two years but we have Brexit and Boris to thank for that.
We always look forward to dining at Gem. This time I skipped the hot mezes so I had room for pudding; warm baklava and ice cream!

Delicious Turkish meal..we chose 8 mezzes between 3..more than enough, followed by a superb coffee!! The Turkish red wine was excellent & staff brilliant!!!

Where to even begin as there's so many positive things to say about this place?!?
Lovely drinks menu (definitely recommend the strawberry daiquiri) with so much food to choose from at brilliant prices.
Furthermore, felt like royalty with the service here! Anything we needed was immediately sorted for us and noticed that they also catered for young children in high chairs whilst we were there! Must go place in Norwich!!!

Gets most things just right. The service was outstanding - friendly, boisterous in the right way, and excellent team work fluid and smooth. The meal was nice - perfectly done meat, nice salad and reasonable rice although the rice could have been a bit lighter and fluffier. They have made good use of the space available and it was well decorated. The 10% service charge added on at the end is a bit pants but it was only a small issue in an otherwise great gem of a place in Norwich.

This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Delicious dishes, beautiful presentation! I recommend it to everyone who likes meat and wine I would like to come back here again. We had service from James, he is very professional and was looking after our table and also recommended what to order. The portions are also very big.

What a lovely place. My friends and I were exhausted after a bike ride and trying to get a quick bike before our train. We were shown a place to park the bikes and the staff made sure we got our meals in time and settled the bill quickly. That is on top of awesome quality of food! I look forward to popping in at a more relaxed pace
