Amazing food, so tasty. The two ladies working at Balageru are very welcoming, and happy to share how some of the dishes were made. We wish we could go there on a regular basis but we live 150 miles away. Easy in my top 5 restaurants of my life so far.

One of the best food experiences I've ever had. Prices are more than fair and the food was brilliant. I look forward to visiting again soon. Thankyou for a wonderful experience

We had the vegetable and meat feast for 2 people tonight and we loved it. The flavours were lovely and it was very filling. The injera wasn't too sour at all which we thought it might be, it was perfect for us. The staff were friendly and we had a ethiopian beer to wash it down too. Will definitely go back. Be prepared to get messy fingers!

Such lovely food, charming atmosphere and friendly service. We shared a vegan platter which was a good amount of food and we ate everything because you just can't get enough - and it was very satisfying. For foodies and vegans this a place I would recommend.

First time trying Ethiopian/Eritrean food and it was super delicious! The meat platter is quite huge and it is very affordable for the size of it. All healthy and clean food. We'll definitely come back :)

Wonderful hospitality to complement a flavourful meal. I recommend it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Home cooked Ethiopian food in very welcoming environment. The lady who runs it's was very accomodating. Reasonable prices, big portions, tasty...what more can you ask for? I would recommend the meat/fish feast platter to share (2 people minimum) and try lots of different flavours. A great time was had here with friends.

Incredible.
Never tried anything like it.
Really tasty food, very laid back atmosphere.
Will definitely be going again.

Amazing food, friendly service! This 'hole in the wall' family-run establishment was a fantastic find in Nottingham city center. My partner and I wanted a new culinary experience and this place gave us just that! We had the vegetable and meat feast platter for two, which was plenty of food and so tasty!! Everything on the menu was reasonably priced and everything is homemade. The Injera (bread pancakes) was delicious, as were the curries and other additions. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a delicious meal or something new for their palate!!!

Fantastic Ethiopian Food! The food is homemade, and very high quality. Very good value for money. The place is small so come early. The host is very happy to tell you about the food, so ask. It is mostly vegan/vegetarian, a mst try if you have those diets.

Fabulous place. Lovely owner and you'll never leave hungry. Great for veggies and vegans. I've spent time in Ethiopia and the shiro here is just perfect :) Great for birthdays with a buffet servie available.

Awesome food and excellent service. There might be a little wait time depending on the order, but the food is worth the wait. Every dish was tasty and had a homemade feel. Don't forget to order some coffee at the end

An overall welcoming experience and excellent service, even if you have to wait a little, after all, good things come to those who wait.
I was personally curious of the culinary experience and I was greeted in kindness by the host/staff. I am definitely going back to finish to enrich or plus in on my experience in the Ethiopian foods.
Excellent service at very affordable prices at an overall wonderful. Would recommend.

Such delicious food! All home cooked and healthy - loved that it was also all vegan and gluten free ❤

I cannot emphasize enough how delicious the food is here! Sooo tasty 😋 I wish I'd taken a photo of the food to post but it looked so great I totally forgot and my family got stuck in straight away. As well as being delicious and beautiful it's also fun. The food is presented on a huge platter of injeera - a satisfying and incomparable pancake - which you use to scoop up the colourful and flavourful dishes upon it. The restaurant is adorned beautifully, the staff are lovely and I can't wait to go again!

It was our first visit to this restaurant and what a lovely surprise!
The cosy interior had 5-6 tables with simple ethnic decor with the clientele to match (always a good sign!). Service was warm, friendly and helpful.
We had the vegetarian/meat feast for two and were treated to a variety of tasty dishes to have with the soft bread, which was like a sourdough pancake. The lamb and beef side dishes were well cooked and deep in flavour. Served with cold Ethiopian beer, it was a perfect meal and we can't wait to return!

I came for a night to Nottingham and found out this place on an evening walk. The food is excellent, as good as I remembered from Ethiopia. The lady that runs the place is lovely. Highly recommended for an approach to the Ethiopian cuisine! Amasagenalo

The food is gorgeous and the staff are sooo lovely! I love Ethiopian food now. Would definitely recommend for great tasting food and an eating experience. Great for vegan & gluten free too.

One of the most fulfilling meat platters I've had. The old lady who runs the place was also very lovely explaining the different items and how they are made. Must visit.

We were given a very warm welcome to this restaurant. Massy is more than happy to explain the home made food. The chef is a very talented young lady and or food was amazing. We highly recommend this place. Try the St. Georges Beer

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Had the meat and vegetable meal for two followed by coffee. Staff were really friendly but not in your face. Food was absolutely amazing. We've eaten this cuisine at a number of places but this was probably the best we've had. Really nice balance of meat, veg and bread and a nice range of different flavours. Very reasonably priced too.

Fantastic Ethiopian food, filling and delicious with a wonderful host. I can't recomend this place enough

Every dish served was a delight to the taste buds.
Make sure you visit!

Super tasty home cooked food with friendly service. Went for a meal with a vegan friend and we had a selection of things to choose from.
Casual dining, incredible value for the quality and great if you want a leisurely meal while catching up with a friend.
The front of the restaurant does look like a takeaway from the outside, but don't let that fool you. I wouldn't have discovered Balageru if it hadn't been through word of mouth, definitely go and check it out.

Fantastic Ethiopian food. Absolutely delicious:). Definitely going to be back for more

Went here last night and really enjoyed the food. Had the vegan feast for two, which is an injerra (slightly sour pancake) with a mix of curries and vegetable dishes on top. It was all really nice, and the lady who runs the restaurant was very friendly, talked us through all the dishes and gave us little top ups on our injerra. Would definitely recommend it, especially if you've not tried Ethiopian / Eritrean food before.

This restaurant is a gem! My family has now become regulars and every time we are not just treated like customers, but welcomed as guests. Our children love it and everyone we have recommended it to has also become a quick and enthusiastic fan.
Ethiopian food has always been a favourite of mine, but the owner and chef of this little eatery cooks the most flavoursome and freshest fare I have ever tasted, and it is all beautifully presented and served with a beautiful smile. Also, don't forget to order some proper Ethiopian coffee when you are there.
S. L.
Freshly made food. Even freshly roasted coffee.
For me, a first trying Ethiopian food, it was very impressive. I likened the dish I had (I'm afraid I don't remember its name) to a platter, with many different, small dishes within one large plate that had an injera or sour bread as the base. I expect one can order a larger quantity of whichever item one prefers but I didn't ask (I enjoyed all of them.) There are a few vegan options, the dish I describe above.
The food is made fresh, cooked to order and this means that speedy food service isn't really the point, it more of good things come to those who wait. And worth the wait it was.
I also tried the coffee, which is roasted, blended and brewed to order. This commands a high price, for coffee but the volume of beans is rather high. This is not weak stuff, like Americano, its more like Espresso but different at the same time.
The owner and chef is a very pleasant person to talk to. Its nice to see someone with a passion for what they do. A full explanation of the dishes and the way they are cooked is interesting.
The decor is interesting, sourced from Ethiopia (I assume.) There certainly is a theme to this place, a relaxed atmosphere. It gives one the impression of being in a different land.
Customer facilities are quite adequate for the number of seats.
For those who are less mobile, there is a step to get into the restaurant, which may be difficult to negotiate.

You guys if order from here trust me you will enjoy nice Ethiopian traditional food and the most popular coffee what we call ye jebena buna.
I am from Holland and I became regular customer.

I arrived at Balageru with a ravenous appetite and was very well satisfied. Even more so, I was amazed by the quality of the fresh food that tastes so distinctly East African and triggered some strong memories of back home. The kind of food that looks and smells so good I didn't even think to take a picture, I just wanted to taste it.
I really can't recall ever having such a perfect Ital meal in years and right here in Nottingham too! This became my favourite restaurant within two bites of the vegetarian Ye-Som Beyaynet and I am soothed with how welcomed I was with fantastic service from the lovely hostess. Na chai ni nzuri sana!

What a wonderful surprise! Don't be put off if it's quiet as this place is truly a hidden gem in Nottingham. We had the meat and vegetarian platter for two which was more than enough food. Personally I think the veggie options were better and I could not get enough of the chickpea/broadbean "yellow" sauce as it was absolutely out of this world.

Absolutely delicious, homemade Ethiopian/Eritrean food! So good! And the server was so friendly and the portions very generous. I highly recommend the Vegetarian Platter!
