Reviews of Higoi
Absolutely amazing experience. The sashimi was fresh and tasty, thickness of the sashimi was very good. The amount of food that comes with the bento box was a lot! Beverage prices are reasonable, not like some other rip off japanese restaurants. Definitely worth a visit!
High quality sushi in an authentic restaurant. Best sushi in Nottingham
Probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in nottingham food was ok but a bit overpriced for the amount of food per portion
Highest standard of Japanese food one can get outside of Japan. Very attentive to detail and delivers food with chef's own creativity. Sushi are made with delicious combinations of ingredients and flavours, which are not found at your usual sushi place. An extremely pleasant dining experience where one is guaranteed to leave with both a very full heart and stomach!
Absolutely amazing Sushi and Shashimi in beautiful.surrondings with excellent service. My only issue is that it has ruined sushi for me now because anywhere else won't be as good 😁 5 stars
Astounding food, impressive service: this is THE place to go in Nottingham if you want to experience real, high quality Japan cuisine.
This is a really cute Japanese restaurant. The menu has a decent amount of choice and would most likely offer something to everyone's taste. The sushi is fresh and delicately prepared, they also serve some less common pieces such as belly tuna. Quite small inside so reservation are a good idea.
Beautiful food. If you love sashimi, you'll love this.
Best Japanese restaurant in Nottingham, and has been for last 15 years. Always order the Agedashi Tofu as standard, and then order more. Whatever way you choose to make your way through the menu, do find a way to include the Black Cod (I like to have it later in the meal with Miso).
Very nice staffs, good service, and good foods.
Good was great. Veggie teasing menu went down well with our friend and looked great. Sashimi also good. Yes quite expensive. Not helped by U.S. ordering saki and paying £20 for a bottle too big for us to drink.
Will go back and would recommend.
Nice service and great food! Definitely try the sushi and sashimi dinner set (28 pounds including 12 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of sushi and 6 pieces of nigiri ( roughly) and dessert!!! Hot sake is also nice to try!
Higoi is definitely the first restaurant you should consider in the Nottingham area when wanting to try authentic Japanese Cuisine. While expensive and much more than I would normally pay for a meal as a student, the quality of the food is excellent and it's certainly worth the price. I couldn't reccommend Higoi more to someone who wants to try authentic Japanese food.
Best place in Nottingham to enjoy high quality and authentic Japanese food. Highly recommend!
One of the best Japanese meals we've had, and the menu has a few things you won't find elsewhere. Nice people too.
Wow, wow, wow! Best sushi and sashimi in Nottingham by far. Chicken curry was also super tasty, great service too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
If you're looking for authentic japanese food then this is the place for you. Tempura isnt just battered shrimp and the tempura sauce is proper tempura dipping sauce not just teriyaki sauce like most japanese places in notts. Sushi melts in your mouth and fresh too. Even the sushi and sashimi dipping sauce is to die for! Ramen is amazing too!
Tasty food. Great customer service, except long delays. Only one server and he was doing back and forth between all the tables, causing further delays.
Price is reasonable.
Awesome food and service. Best Japanese Restaurant in UK! Pay twice as much in London for JP food not even half as good!
Good stuff
just the best Japanese food anywhere..been in business over 30 years...says a lot.
Small but cosy. Amongst other shops.
One of the best Japanese restaurants you can ask for in Nottingham. Personal favourite:
Tea Rice - which is kinda rare to find in the UK
Seared Salmon Roll - enjoy the twist of spicy miso sauce
Superb... Michelin star quality. We have eaten in the best restaurants in the world and Higoi is one of the best meals ever.
If you like authentic Japanese food you will love this restaurant. Beautifully presented.
I lived in japan for 4 years and I can safely say that when I go here and eat the food, it’s like Being back in Nagano! 本当に美味しい~~
I can’t believe this is closing
Brilliant food. Small place
On the pricier side but nice for a treat - good standard of food, beautifully presented
Great food and friendly staff. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was delicious and a great selection of veggie options.
Another excellent evening at higoi. Their agedashi tofu is to die for, and that's just for starters.
Very tasty and lovely service as ever but just not as great as I remembered it from a few years ago.
Love Love Love this place and everything ( specially the Higoi dinner yum!). Seating can be tight but we never feel rushed.
Lovely restaurant, typical Japanese style and small. Nice ramen.
Steak don was nicely flavoured but was way too over which made it really chewy. Sushi was OK but the snow crab tempura was amazing.
excellent food taste good. love the ambiance. the staff and customer service is good.
One of my favourite restaurants. A touch expensive but 100% get what you pay for, fantastic!
If you want good Japanese food in Nottingham, this is the place to go., It is just a bit expensive. But worth it.
Amazing food, amazing service! Definitely will be coming back again!
Loved it, party of 5, all very happy with our meals and good value.
Great food, probably the best you can get in Nottingham. Why is this place so underrated?
Woooww!!! Had an amazing time with my friends!! Food was superb!
Not cheap but excellent quality sushi. Definitely the best in Nottingham
A few years back it's the best sushi in town
Potentially the best restaurant in Nottingham.
My favorite uk restaurant. Just as good as my first experience. Excellent food, great service. Thank you
Lovely staff very helpful and brilliant food will be going back soon

Wonderful food and service as always!
Tonkotsu Ramen is delicious and affordable
Stunning food and great service.
The best
Great food, must go.
Flavour presentation and service top top class
Amazing😃
Delicious and lovely service
Great Japanese food and probably the best I had outside London (within the UK of course). Sashimi was fresh and I had a good time. It is unfortunately on the pricey side but it is definetely worth a try.
Food was fantastic
Awesome climate
Amazing sushi
Delicious food
On the official website, it has the honor of being "the longest running Japanese restaurant outside London in UK since 1989" (original English text: Higoi is the longest running Japanese restaurant outside London in UK since 1989). Before I went there, I thought that the Japanese restaurant would have quite spacious seats, but it turned out that it was not the case at all. Instead, it had a layout that is only found in small local restaurants in Japan, and it seemed more intimate.
Due to the small shop, there are actually not many choices for staple food.
Recommendation: Chazuke (Japanese: Chazuke/ちゃづけ) - After all, in the UK, not only Nottingham, but also in London, the opportunity to see Chazuke is rare.
Here’s an inventory of what we ate in total:
🐟Sashimi (sashimi)
- I simply ordered tuna, salmon and scallops, and they were all fresh, which is definitely a plus.
🦀Tempura Soft Shell Crab (Tempura Soft Shell Crab)
- This was my introduction to Japanese food when I was a kid. It’s a must-try if you can. The dough is very good and has a crispy and non-greasy texture.
🐔Chicken Yakitori Skewer (Chicken Yakitori Japanese BBQ)
The taste is amazing - the moisture of the chicken is well locked in the meat, and a thin layer of secret barbecue sauce is applied before serving to achieve the finishing touch.
🍣 Seared Salmon Roll (grilled salmon roll)
- Don’t underestimate this simple-sounding grilled salmon roll. This is really the only place in Nottingham where you can eat sushi that deliberately adds spicy miso to make it more sophisticated.
🫖Tea Rice
- Eel + fried shrimp. Although there are only simple decorations and simple tea soup, it can be regarded as fulfilling a small wish of not eating chazuke rice in the UK for 6 years. satisfy.
🥞 Matcha Pancake (Matcha Pancake)
- I was also surprised by this. Bitter matcha has never been common in the UK. If you don’t like bitter food, you must eat it with ice cream. (***If the cake crust could be made into a bitter matcha flavor, I would definitely raise my hands and feet - not many people may be able to accept such a dessert)
(Translated) This labor export company is quite cherished and prestigious. Before, I went to Tokyo agricultural orders and was supported by officials of the company. Give 5 stars about the quality of service!

Teriyaki chicken skewers feel like eating back to Heiseiya
I never thought I would be able to enjoy unagiju in a place so far away from Japan. Sashimi and tempura are no different from Japan. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to taste authentic Japanese food.
Delicious Japanese food in Nottingham, run by real Japanese.
Beautiful food, great service! Will definitely be back! Loved every bite.
The best Japanese restaurant in Nottingham, high quality foods and good service, would recommed and come back again.
Amazing food! A mixture of good practice value set meals and more expensives dishes. Cosy little restaurant with pleasant staff and free parking around the corner after 6pm. I've been a few times and will always go back!
Food was super tasty but they 100% need more staff the service was sooooo slow.
