Had a wonderful lunch time with my colleagues at Kayal. It is a must to have masala dosa as the taste itself is quite authentic in my opinion. We had papadoms, chicken briyani and a few types of curries as well. I wish the portions could have been more generous. Other than that, the service and the food quality are absolutely great. I forgot to order a masala tea but this makes a good excuse for me to make a second visit ;)
P.S. They put the receipt in a treasure box - how cute is that.

As usual the food and service was excellent, all five of us had sea food based mains which we all shared ( too many to list) the banana pack contains fish Biriani. We shall definitely return

Great service, great vegan food, and some of the friendliest staff you will meet. Truly excellent value for money and a unique menu you won't forget in a hurry. I loved the interior design, the wide variety of foods and the interesting drinks offered to me. Every detail here has been thought of and planned out to make the experience memorable for customers. Would certainly recommend!

Loved the place. The ambience was so good. Even though a bit expensive I was happy to find authentic Kerala food in Nottingham. This have to be one in the few Kerala restaurant that have retained authenticity of the south Indian cuisine. Will go there again for sure

Good customer service.
Very nice ambiance.
Seasonal grilled fish was not cooked properly.
Chicken skew curry & the fresh juice was really good.
Appam was very cold. Expected hot and crispy at the corners but turned out to come as cold set dosa.
C. B.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Reasonably well priced too. Let down by slightly slow service for a Wednesday lunch time but overall brilliant. Thank you.
S. R.
Great experience of South Indian foods with a slight inclination to European cuisine. Loved the ambience and hospitality.

The food at Kayal is full of flavour, unique and delicious. They also have a great range of cocktails. The service is great, however it is a pricey place to eat, and it adds up quickly.
S. L.
Unfortunately didn't eat myself as not feeling well. However a cracking varied menu, all dishes ordered by my companions looking amazingly vibrant and delicious. There were no complaints. Service was good even when it became more busy. A little pricey, but overall fair.
P. P.
The dosa was absolutely gorgeous
Delicately spiced, lovely to eat, bought back nice memories (I can't cook them, so will definitely be back for more)
H. R.
Delicious food lovely staff, love that they support where they are from and showing us there delicacies aswell as showing videos of there culture and place back home which I'd love to visiti

Unique place to eat. Very attentive staff. Outdoor seating area available on a sunny day. Indoor scenery is magnificent, very exotic. Food was a beautiful experience, worth trying.

This is not a typical Indian style restaurant with CTM. They're doing something different here and we had a fun lunch with family. Recommend the dosas
S. S.
Went with the seafood, because Karala. The Talapia Pollichathu was UNREAL. The crab dish was also phenomenal. Possibly the best curry I've had in my life, no joke. Even the rice was next level. Not a bad price for the quantity either. Hospitality was great, really friendly and helpful waiting staff. Couldn't be more satisfied 👌
M. P.
Very good! Very nice! The flavours were melting on my tongue. Authentic taste of kerala. We will definitely visit again.

Had a lamb starter dish, fish briyani & masala dosa. All dishes were nice. The food is good for the price and contrary to other reviews, I think the portions are just nice x minus one star because I wish the food was spicier :(

Lovely 3 course set meal .( It was similar to a tapas or a meze in that it gave us a taster of different meals) .Our group of four thoroughly enjoyed it . Lovely friendly staff ,relaxed atmosphere .

Its ok .. No options for kids menu. The waiting time is long.

After a long time, we tried a Kerala cuisine and it didn't disappoint. Reminding me of those wonderful South Indian flavours with delicately balanced spices and coconut aromas. Kerala, Southern west state in India renowned for its coconut trees and fragrant spices, has a wonderful cuisine which is completely different from North Indian food. It is fresh and light with so many varieties of food plus all those delicious stand alone dishes like Appam with chutneys. We had Lamb and Chicken which was cooked in a beautiful sauce and we had it with Lemon and Coconut rice. The starter was crunchy fried treats along with pickles which were freshly made rather than from readymade jars. We also ordered Seafood soup, again, delicious and light with fresh coconut flavours. Staff are friendly and communicate well. The atmosphere was great too with an excellent bar.

If you crave Indian but bored with usual Balti and Korma I strongly recommend to try this place. I went there with my wife and ordered Nair dosa as starter and I was shocked when they served it, it was huge, amazingly tasty, I never knew potatoes can be finger licking. For main course I went with Tilapia pollichathu (Fish), gee rice and porotta. Again to my surprise I never had such a yummy fish in my life. It was enough for two if you are ok with sharing.
They got lot of other variety but picked above mentioned because my friend recommend it. I will definitely go again to try same dish and to try others in their menu. Staff are very approachable with good knowledge about the food they serve as you expect from most India restaurants. It looks like very recently refurbished and ambience is great.
I recommend this place to all my friends in Nottingham. Price is a bit in higher side but I will say it should not keep you from trying this place, it is worth trying and I am sure this place come first in your mind when you think about Indian.

On Valentine’s Day, Kayal was decorated with roses and red balloons and candles. Really set the mood and ambiance was beautiful.
They gave roses to the beautiful ladies when they’re seated.
Staff are super friendly. Reminds me of home. Genuine and humble staff. Amazing food, very delicious!
A. A.
Not a lot of choice. Esp for vegetarians. Had to pick from the very basic and "available at home" options coz we were too hungry. Food was tasty, but not worth the price

Four of us had a meal here on Tuesday the 7th of December before visiting a show at the Nottingham Arena. We explained we were in a little bit a of rush because we did not wish to miss the show and the the staff catered to our needs without effort. The whole meal was superb and extremely delicious and tasty. We were so impressed that the four of us decided we would return again within in the next few weeks and try out more of their great menu. Finally I must point out that all the staff were extremely friendly and made our visit a pleasurable one.
A. T. S.
Enjoyed the food here. The lamb pepper fry starter was really good with lot of flavours. The (banana) plantain leaf wrapped and steamed Tilapia was very flavourful and be the curry was tasty though the fish was already fried. The parata was ok and not soft. The spice level was low for me and had it been little more then it would have been a perfect kerala meal. I enjoyed this dinner. The staff was very polite and friendly.
J. A.
Absolutely excellent place to dine. The staff team are simply brilliant, the food is amazing and the decor and layout are eye catching. I would highly recommend Kayal
A. D.
I was craving for a nice Masala Dosa hence decided to go to Kayak. It did not disappoint. We received a nice warm welcome. Restaurant was following all the precautions for maintaining social distancing. The decor is really good. I had Mango Lassi for drink and Chilli paneer for starters. For mains I had Masala Dosa and for dessert had Gulab Jasmin with ice cream.I would definitely be visiting again.
D. P.
Really nice food, good service, pleasant surrounding and atmosphere. Budget £10-12 per head for the Kayal Business Lunch including a drink. Recommended.
A. R. S.
Absolutely loved it! The place in itself was amazing with all the interior decor and background music which set the right vibe. The food was delicious and very nicely plated. Would definitely recommend trying their mixed seafood curry, kalloppam and chillie chicken. The staff were very friendly. We will definitely go again :)
A. K.
Great experience! Lovely staff and food, I want to say thank you to Patel for making our night even more special, great service :)
J. H.
Absolutely amazing fresh & tasty food. I am wheat, soya & dairy intolerant and i was well looked after and had much more choice of meal than usual.
I was unable to have a dessert but quite frankly i was too full up.
Please open up a sister restaurant in Milton Keynes.
C. B.
VERY Attentive staff and lovely food.
Went with family who like spicy food but I don't... especially chilli... Chicken stew was perfect for me.
B. B.
Really warm and welcoming restaurant with friendly staff and a cool interior.
Food was delicious as were the unique cocktails!
S. S.
I loved the food. Must visit if you are in Nottingham. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
V. J.
A great taste of South Indian food specially kerala seafood. Located in the heart of Nottingham city. Good service and great interior ambience. Lovely staff.
J. P.
Seriously good value. A beautiful thali with 5 curries, rice and a delicious dosa. Fabulous lunch.
M. S.
Very delicious Kerala food. Friendly staff. Such a traditional ambience.
C. H.
This was our first visit in maybe ten years (life got in the way), and the food, atmosphere, environment, and staff are just as excellent as we remember. Thank you so much, it made our day.
J. K.
As ever Kayal was wonderful. I varied but reliable menu of South Indian cuisine. The poori canny be beaten and the service is always great. Highly recommended!
S. T.
Fusion staff , could have been made more original
I. C.
Great choice, lovely food and excellent service.
P. L.
Great food, friendly service and atmosphere.
A different style curry restaurant 😋
Definitely recommend 👌
A. H.
Great food, and the staff were attentive. The only reason for complaint - and a big one - occurred at the end of the meal. When the waiter brought the card machine, and entered the amount, he entered it in with a sizable 20% tip (3 diners), and set it so we couldn't change it. This unacceptable behavior left a bad taste in our mouth that canceled all the good tastes we had just experienced.
S. M.
Food is delicious and unique. We all enjoyed here. Staffs are good.. only thing we did not liked was 10% service charge which we were not aware of.
A. N.
Great food, Great ambiance, good service , must try Kerala temptation I loved a lot.
C. B.
Delicious food and excellent service, they even gave us a postcard to write that they post for you - nice touch!
N. N.
Love the food! Homely food in restaurant quality and quantity. Best Indian food I had in Nottingham .
Recommended to everyone. Lovely people too✌🏽
S. S.
The ambience of the restaurant is so unique. If someone is so fond of sadya, please do try this place. Other than sadya, the polichadu is so good. I love everything about this place.
J. S.
Excellent, friendly service by Prajwal, and the food was absolutely outstanding
S. A.
Amazing south Indian food. Had my usual masala Dosa. It didn't disappoint.
S. S.
This place is absolutely great and is one of the only places I know that offers South Indian food, thali’s and dosa’s.
They do lunch time offers too which are well worth their money!
P. T.
Hidden gem. Delicious Kerala cuisine. Everything we ordered was freshly made and tasted authentic. Coconut chutney was a bit of a disappointment but that’s more a personal taste. Vadas were light a d crispy. Tried three different dosas. All really good. Appam with veg stew was tasty. Generous portions.
R. G.
Went here as a bit of a spur-of-the-moment activity -- and we couldn't get in anywhere else. Sat outside which was fine, but we didn't appreciate having a table of degenerate foul-mouths being sat on the table next to us complete with ill-behaved, screaming children shortly after we had been seated and made our orders.
The food was fairly good but the portion size and quality was a little sub-par for the menu price. Overall slightly disappointing. Can't say I would rush back in a hurry on the basis of our visit.
M. S.
Lovely food, waiter was very helpful. Top class service .If I was going to pick a fault it's let down slightly by slow service for the 2nd round of drinks, other than that it's better than some michelin star places I've eaten in. Keep up the great work
R. D.
One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. Authentic south indian food (at least according to my friend from Kerala). Very good food, and nice ambiance.
J. M.
Wish we could give them a higher rating. Booked for 6pm with our 1 year old, the guys couldn’t do enough for us and made us feel very comfortable (especially with the current situation). We both had the special taster menu and it didn’t disappoint little one polished off most of it. Thanks for making us so welcome and for such a fantastic meal.
S.
Delicious variety of starters and desserts + great service 👌🏻👌🏻
D. R.
Arrived here after looking for a place to drink and eat... Ended up with a chicken dosa and a cobra on tap, both super tasty!
Staff were friendly and attentive with a big smile behind their mask and the food was great value for money.
M. C.
Delicious thali & decent wine selection. The staff were really friendly & accommodating. Even on a busy evening they ensured we had space & comfort with our baby in her pram. Always a great experience at Kayal Nottingham.
H. M.
The taste was really authentic and the staff was fabulous. They greeted us nicely, was properly consulted, and the south Indian taste was amazing. Will come again and recommend.
s. v.
Food was nice and tasty..
Kerala style foods available.
Must visit..
P. R.
Amazing food, brilliant staff/ service. We haven’t been for a while and they are still as good as ever! Accommodated us as a last minute booking with our 1 year old. We all loved our meal and the staff couldn’t do enough to make sure the ‘baby’ was happy despite her food going everywhere! Can not recommend enough xx
v. r.
Great service, Staff very helpful and tasty food.
r. r.
Most authentic South Indian food you can get.
A. C.
Such a good and varied selection of food and great flavours. Plenty of vegan options (masala dosa is my favourite). My go-to Indian restaurant.
R. J.
We enjoyed a fabulous night out with some amazing friends in Nottingham, our friends suggested eating here and it didn't disappoint. The service was good and the food was served very quickly, I opted for a vegetable Nadal which was nice, my wife ordered a meal that came with a fish stock soup for starters followed by 8 mini curries all very varied and I have to admit I wish I had ordered the same as I ended up sampling most of hers anyway :) I just wish I knew which ones I was eating because some of them were fantastic and I would have quite easily ordered them as a standalone meal. Overall it was a very nice meal and the free dessert was very tasty.
D. S.
the takeaway food from this restaurant was excellent
M. L.
Stopped for lunch a couple of days ago. We had the businessman's lunch which was absolutely fantastic, excellent value for money and completely satisfied us. We will definitely be going again
A. S.
Very nice food - a good range of different choices'. The service was good and friendly. Would definitely go again!
S. R.
Authentic Kerala food.. A must visit if you are in search of South Indian food in Nottingham.
M. W.
Usual stunning food from the team at Kayal: return visit for us (one of our favourite eateries in Nottingham). In my opinion, some of the tastiest Indian (Keralam) food around.
Cracking job - keep it up!
D. F.
We came here for new years eve 2019. They managed to squeeze us in at 9:30, and proceeded to serve some amazing food. They brought us a huge dosa to share between the 4 of us, then our mains were incredible. Would highly recommend if you're after a curry, but not a standard Indian curry. I think south Indian curry might actually be better!
C. T.
Just enjoyed another exceptionally great meal here with my girl friends. The quality and flavours of the food are wonderful. The waiters are always cheerful and the service is very good. This has been my third visit and I will be returning again with my partner next time to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. I would definately recommend it.
H. S.
Kerala tourism starts here lovingly abbrreviated KTDC at India.
Authentic food from the back waters of heaven on earth from the southern tip of India. Ambience relaxed and a gorgeous spread of veg and non veg food from the fishing village.
Highly recommended - Sadya Thali , appam and veg stew, if you miss a puri then have it with Saag and toor dal sabzi. There's also the pickle starter plate with Kayal special salad mix of avocado, mango, guava and strawberries. Wash it down with Mango and Salted lassi and yeah there's a one of the kind drumsticks soup which completes a well balanced all vegetarian meal
Nottingham this place is a must visit (•‿•)
M. B.
Certainly one of my favourite Indian dining experiences to date. It's North Indian cuisine so don't go in expecting to see the usual Indian dishes. That's a good thing though as North Indian food is exceptionally delicious. The service is fine, as its the environment, although it's not as nice as the one in Leicester. If you want to broaden your Indian cuisine experience then don't hesitate.
T. A.
Best restaurant for Kerala authentic dishes with good vibe and ambience
P. R.
One of my personal favourite restaurants in town, this is a really interesting Indian restaurant with a slightly different flavour profile. The food is brilliant and well priced, the mango lassi is perfection, and there is a superb selection of vegetarian dishes. Friendly staff and a welcoming building really sell this place.
c. d.
Very inconsistent food. Some dishes great, but some so highly salted that guests struggled to eat. Pre lockdown they gave a discount voucher for next meal to encourage return at a later date...but we found the voucher Ts & C's were very restrictive, so too hard to get any benefit. When offered discount voucher last time, we saw it was just the same, so immediately tore up as not worth taking it away for future use. Post-lockdown Kayal will need to improve food consistency and offer worthwhile promotions to drive return visits.
a. t.
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. We especially enjoyed the bar drinks and special snacks served along with it. All the staffs were very friendly. Mr. Jumy Jacob the Restaurant manager was very jovial and helping us to try their signature dishes. We strongly reccomed and wish to visit again. Thanks to the kayal team.
S. R.
This restaurant is an excellent one. It is one of the few south Indian restaurants about in Nottingham. Most are northern India. They therefore give a nice change and treat to what many may be used to. Excellent taste and choice.
S. W.
Delicious lunch time dosa curry. Lovely, pretty decor and super friendly staff.
B. B.
From start to finish the meal was a delight. We ordered lentil donuts to start which were a lovely change to the usual starters and I would definitely eat again. Our very attentive waiter, recommended a fish dish cooked in banana leaves for main. It was incredible, not like anything I have eaten before. I would rush back just for that!
T. D.
Service was fine, functional rather than friendly. Food was pretty average Indian restaurant fare. It was definitely a different style to most Indian restaurants. I couldn’t say whether it was definitely Keralan, but the flavours were fine. What let it all down was the execution. The chicken puffs were dry and pastry soggy. Certainly not puffy or crisp. Prawns in batter that still had the tail on, not very clever. Sautéed in a sweet chilli sauce with onions and peppers it was pretty bog standard take away food. I wouldn’t have been that bothered if it wasn’t for the very high prices.
V. K.
The South Indian food reminded us of being back in India - great food with authentic flavours and no artificial neon colours (no pretending to be Punjabi food). Throw in great service and you have a must-visit restaurant.
A. C.
Amazing place.
The staff were incredible, especially our server Tom who went above and beyond to make our night the best it could be.
Some of us asked for recommendations and we are glad we did because the food was outstanding.
Very authentic courses all round and with some of the biggest Dosa's you've seen it was a spectacular meal.
Again, hats off to Tom who made everyone feel welcome and catered to all our needs.
Our friend even got a little birthday cake.
We'll definitely be going again and I would recommend that you should too.
V. T.
We came to Kayal on Saturday for a birthday meal and Kayal was suggested because it was somewhere we had been before. We had also visited the Leicester store and absolutely loved it. Although Kayal were able to provide a table for a large party quite last minute, unfortunately the food wasn't the quality we are used to. Due to the volume we were made to order from a set menu (not an issue) but the starters lacked some flavour and the time between the starters and mains was more than an hour. The mains were served at 21:30 (table booked for 19:30). They were really flavoursome and on par with the great food we're usually used to from Kayal. The staff were great and really friendly but due to the reasons mentioned above I have given them a 3 star rating
B. S.
Good authentic south Indian food, good ambience, a bit pricey.
A. A.
This is the first time we have visited and I will most certainly go again. The staff were friendly and very professional. The restaurant is clean, comfortable, spacious and very fun to sit in - a nice change from the typical "Indian restaurant". The price was a bit more than expected - paying for rice on top of the curry was new one for us but that was soon forgotten when the food arrived. We ordered : mattar paneer, chicken birayni, dosas, aubergine curry, chicken curry, rice, naans - all well delicious. Portions were generous and very well presented. Masaal tea was refreshing. I would say this is a place for special occasions rather than a casual meal and I will be back for a special occasion for sure.
J. H.
A good range of authentic Indian dishes, what I had tasted was amazing. Attentive and freindly staff. The prices perhaps a little on the high side but not by much and the restaurant looks great too.
T. S.
Great food but service could do with an improvement. Had to wait extensively for all courses, drinks service and 30 mins to pay the bill. Appreciate you guys are busy but just hire a couple of extra waiters to deal with the demand, the food does the talking we shouldn't be repeating ourselves over and over again for service.
D. J.
Wowsers! Never been before but will definitely be going again next time we're in Nottingham.
Service was brilliant. We did go in the early evening so they weren't busy so may be different when they're busy which they often are apparently.
Food was amazing, not had seafood put fish curry before - both were gorgeous. I shall be looking for Kerala recipes every time we have an Indian from now on.
E. B.
Absolutely gorgeous! One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time and taste just like the thalis I experienced in India. Highly recommend. Lovely service too :)
G. L.
We love the Kayal. The food is great; the staff are lovely and the service is reasonably quick. This is the perfect place to go if you love a good curry but want something different. Don't expect poppadoms and naan bread because you won't get either here. Share a dosa for a starter and enjoy the experience of a different style of curry.
D. G. (. b.
Beautiful food n puts mowgli to shame.very cheap place to eat n great beer at cheap prices.brilliant tasty food.loved it.
A. C.
Excellent south Indian food.
Highly recommend it.
Delicious dishes.
m. a.
Speedy service, felt well looked after, dosa was great.
J.
Absolutely amazing food!
We asked for the food to be spicy and it most definitely was how we like it.
Been a few times but today was by far the best!
Will be back for a dosa soon!
Thanks Kayal x

Excellent Indian restaurant in central Nottingham. Generally in the Kerala style with great vegetarian and seafood options. Surrounded by bars etc for a good night out. Also check out a really good lunch menu.
A. N.
Had a lovely chicken dose. Chicken served is halal. My friend had a Masala dosa which was equally nice.
S. T.
Beautiful, relaxing and very clean surroundings. The menu is full of things you rarely find in this country. I had the vegetarian business lunch which is a very tasty dosa, aromatic pilau rice and 4 curries type dishes. The curries were chickpeas, cauliflower, potato and vegetables. All we're delicious. You get two dipping sauces for the dosa too.
That and half a Kingfisher cost less than £9. A bargain! I would definitely recommend it.
g. s.
Several cuts above your normal "Indian". Such a pleasure to enjoy the normally neglected fish and seafood. I'd go again without hesitation.
N. S.
Really good experience...felt like having food from kerala..the taste was really good and spicy....
D. D.
For an authentic Keralite experience in Nottingham, this is the place to head. We weren't disappointed in the least with the food that we ordered and it was all very reasonably priced. Not as spicy as I hoped for but still tasty enough for me to want to go back again.
Great value for money and excellent service.
C. G.
Had the business lunch and a large wine. Lovely meal and service outside due to covid reg. Didn't book just turned up. Very nice.
H. C.
Great food and service love it here.
s. s.
Haii recently came to Kayal restaurant to have dinner with my family. The restaurant ambiance was great with friendly and pleasing staff. The dishes ensured authentic south Indian taste, especially fish 'pollichath' and lamb curry. will surely come again to try more dishes. Recommended to my friends as well. Grate service and assured taste. Thank you
B. T.
Really nice atmosphere and food was great
N. F.
One of my favourite restaurants in Nottingham. South Indian curry that you don't really find in Notts, other than here. Always friendly and genuine. Love the Masala Dosa. Tastiest and best value lunch in Notts - basically a thali for £7.
K. S.
Won a free meal here when me and my girlfriend first moved to Nottingham and had a great night. Food was like nothing we have had before and the staff were so friendly.
Been back numerous times since and taken friends and family several times and am yet to find someone who doesn't love it. My mum even comes to visit from Devon now just to eat here!
Had take-away once and was very nice but for the full experience I recommend visiting!
R. P.
Having lived in Hong Kong for the last 14 years, and recently repatriated, I have travelled extensively in Asia experiencing all manner of local cuisine, from street food to 5* restaurants.
My experience at Kayal was nothing short of excellent. The service, the menu, the ambience, what we actually ordered was all excellent. Value for money 9/10. Kingfisher was a tad pricey. Will return. No doubt !
D. P.
We were in a hurry as we were going to a gig at the arena, we arrived when the place was busy so the staff were working hard. We were seated quickly and we told the waiter we needed to eat in a hurry. He advised us what would be nice but served swiftly and proceeded to get our drinks.
The food was brought out very quickly and was very nice indeed, a different style Indian food than I've had before. Moderately hot and with a mixed spice style sauce, the rice is nicely flavoured too, me and my wife had different style rice each and were both very pleased with the flavour.
The only thing I would say is - the till is located on the bar and when the waiting staff are working on it they have their back to you and can't see you trying to get their attention, it was a while before they looked away from the screen, but as soon as they saw us they moved swiftly.
Definitely recommended.
J. J.
Was one of our favourite restaurants, but last night was a let down.
King fish wasn't king fish or was overcooked to the point of being taste free. Shame as the appam and sauce were as good as usual.
Wife's traditional selection was no longer available, the alternative suggested was sadly lacking in flavour and the chicken had not been marinated so didn't taste of anything.
It's a shame but I doubt we'll be revisiting this place anytime soon. this was the first time that we've gone back since we learned the restaurant has suffered from a cockroach infestation.
Maybe the cockroaches were the missing secret ingredient!
M. D.
Very nice food, helpful staff and a very appealing decor
M. D.
Kayal as always delivers great food. Even at lunch they give you the business lunch edition which at £5.95 is outstanding value. Whether your in Notts or Leicester it's always consistent. Now we have the new vegan edition Herb. 5 🌟
n. m.
Delicious! Amazing huge Dosa and fab aubergine curry. Recommended.
We will be back in December to visit again.
S. T.
A bit of a mix really the food was nice but not cheap and the peppermint tea wasn't great. We paid the same for lunch as we would for dinner so a shame there isn't a lunch menu on weekends as the weekday thali is great. Also it was freezing in the restaurant so we were struggling to take our coats off!
N. S.
First class restaurant excellent food and very attentive staff, reasonable prices. Will visit again .

As a person who hails from the state of Kerala in India, I can confidently vouch for the authenticity of the Keralan/Keralite food that Kayal serves! Absolutely loved loved loved it! It took me by surprise and I was literally in overdrive looking at the choice of dishes on the menu and just could not decide what was better - ranging from the vegetarian choices to the various seafood dishes or the spicy chicken gravies! The Meen Pollichathu (fish wrapped in banana leaves) was absolutely mouth-wateringly yummy! Their service was refreshingly good, and the ambience within the restaurant give you the feel and charm of Kerala as well. To top it off, they serve Kingfisher beer (a popular choice in India and abroad), as well as a range of spirits. I see myself heading back there and taking my friends along with me very soon! So happy that Nottingham has a genuine portion of Kerala within it. 😊😊
J. H.
One of my favourite restaurants in the world. Wonderful Southern Indian food, friendly atmosphere and reasonable prices. Would strongly recommend the dosa, and a fish dish wrapped in banana leaves!
M. H.
Had an excellent evening here with friends. Wonderful authentic Indian food. Don't go here if you want bog standard Indian. You won't get it. Excellent service. Lovely atmosphere. Strongly recommended. 😀
N. V.
Staff are super lovely, love the interior + the food is insane - highly recommend! Feels like a home away from home ✨
G. S.
Food and flavours were great, relaxed atmosphere and suitable to take young family although menu for children limited. Main courses felt were quite expensive. Definitely worth a visit to try something different. Chilli Paneer very good. Enjoy.
L. B.
Lovely meal, unusual dishes with a great range of fish and seafood
E. J.
Great South Indian food. Would recommend the dosa's they are very authentic and take me back to India.
K. N.
Biryani has less than normal chilli but spice was subtle and so tasty. Enjoyed the fish steamed wrapped under banana leaves and caked with yummy coconut based curry with it. Bit expensive side, but it is the quality and the Malabar food experience that duly demands the price.
H. Q.
Stunning food bursting with flavour and served by friendly helpful staff. Great atmosphere and lovely airy restaurant. Incredibly reasonable price wise too. Definitely worth a visit!

Great food but the waiters are young and inexperienced, they desperately need someone overseeing then giving orders. Trying to make eye contact is impossible.....our drinks came after our food only because we told the guy bringing the food. It seems the waiters just run around serving who ever they see first. Little tip, give the waiters sections to look after, it will work better
B. N.
Love the food. Really different to trad curry house fare. Subtle distinct flavours, lots of curry leaves. Fabulously friendly servers:-) best Indian food is Nottingham.
S.
Excellent food. Taste is very close to kerala authentic food. We’ve ordered chicken puffs, tilapia fish, coconut rice and meat tali and semiya payasam. Enjoyed the meal very much. Highly recommend. Generous portions and reasonably priced.
L. O.
We booked a table for a colleague's 70th birthday as we wanted it to be special. Although the staff were very helpful we found the dishes below expectations. Really disappointed in the time it took between courses too.
A. Y.
We went during the lunch time to have there special lunch meals but it is not that great place. The food quality and some of the items like sambhar, chutneys were not up-to the mark being a south Indian (Kerala) restaurant.
M.
Had a lunch at this restaurant last saturday. Was curious about past reviews, so decided to give it a go.
The starter of different poppadom-like breads and three dips was an excellent twist on the Indian restaurant classic.
My main was a stewed aubergine dish, which was cooked to perfection, and I ordered coconut pancakes to go with it, which I found strangely addictive. Perhaps I would have preferred deeper flavours in the aubergines, but it was still very nice.
The only criticism I have is about the cleanliness of the ladies' toliets.
As other people said, this is not your typical Indian restaurant, but if you're feeling adventurous, you should try it.
W. R. (.
There are a lot of curry houses in Nottingham, but this one offers something a bit different. They specialise in fish curries, and everything I have had has been really tasty. I feel a bit let down by the inconsistent service, but otherwise a nice restaurant.
M. V.
Food was good, we ordered the masala dosa, chilli paneer, rice and another paneer main. The chilli paneer was lacking in quantity but was nice. Service is good but is very slow and our waiter even forgot our starter and drink. We waited for 35 mins for the starters and an hour for the mains. So good restaurant but needs better customer service 👍🏼
S. L.
Always superb - authentic Keralan flavours, quick and polite service, delicious food and big portions too - also very reasonably priced
V. C.
Curry doesn't get any better than this in Nottingham. I have been several times and tried a few dishes, I haven't been disappointed with any of them, the food is excellent and often very different from your usual indian fair, you wont see, [insert meat type] ticka massala, pilau rice and naan breads on the menu here!
Very balanced flavours and cooked to perfection. You would think food this good should be more expensive, but its very well priced indeed, portion size is generous and represent good value, best value is the set menu thali which is around 16 pounds for 3 courses, personal favourite menu, would be pre-meal snacks and pickles followed by tillapia with the tamarind rice, and for desert, well I have never had enough room. Ontop of the excellent food the service is suberb, with a relaxed and friendly atmostphere.

. I bumped into the manager in the local pub and he told me about Kayal and we decided to go as I love south Indian food. The whole place is fantastically laid out, it’s very unusual and different from the rest of India, comfortable and the food has always been fantastic as has the service. I have been a few times now and from day one they have been very nice to us and now shake hands and welcome us personally when we arrive!.The prices are good and the mains are all lovely (Be aware you will need a side with the crab thoran). The Tilapia pollichathu I had been amazing and was so well cooked I still think about it to this day! It was that good! I have travelled all over India eating and the food in my local village beats it all. I went last week and we had a starter each, a main, shared a dessert, I had 3 pints and my fiancee had 3 vodka and cokes and the bill was £45.00. Excellent value!
I have recommened Kayal to my family and friends and most have now been at least once and all have been very impressed!!!
V. K.
This place gives the taste exactly of my home town Mangalore which is near to Kerala and Goa. The best coastal cuisine of India. The quality of the food is classic. A must visit place
R. A. R. S.
Never had a bad meal here. Closest thing to authentic South Indian cuisine I've found in these parts. The business lunch at £5 is excellent value too.
M. P.
Excellent customer service. Thanks to the employee that helped with my food order today. The veg stew is simply amazing.
J. D.
"Businessman's lunch" was delicious and incredible value.
V. B.
This is a must when you go to Nottingham, very suprised, I have eaten in so many places around Nottingham, but the food in Kayal took me. Great tastes, not had any stress about too much oil and grease. They do a GREAT Masala Dosa! Loved it! The food music, staff and the scenery in the place was perfect! Price is perfect, drinks are okay, but there are plenty of nice bars you can hit after (The Coco Lounge)
Nottingham has always had some really bad media coverage in the past, i lived here for 5 years and can honestly say i loved every moment, the people of Nottingham are a crazy bunch, but still all welcoming and even though i lived in St Annes, the only trouble i got into was a snow ball fight during Christmas! Wish i was still there!
S. Q.
Always fantastic food and service 👌
S. O.
Had the lunch time business menu and it was great! Food was amazing, very relaxing atmosphere, and the staff were welcoming
A. M.
Great service. Great food. Good prices don't miss if you're in Nottingham and like South indian. If you haven't tried it yet then make sure you do.
J. R.
I've been to Kayal at least a dozen times and have only had excellent food. On a couple of occasions the service has been slow - largely due to the fact that the restaurant is packed - but I'd eat there much more frequently if I had the time and money. I love it!
L. S.
The food is absolutely delicious and the staff are lovely. I've never had a bad meal here and visit as often as I can. Highly recommended
s.
Best ghee roast, it was crispy. Tried mutton roast that was favourite dish of owner's dad. Mutton cooked with lot of pepper, spicy one.
p. r.
Awesome ambience and good food .
D. P.
Loved the taste and hospitality. We got hot 🔥 dosa's after the first one was lukewarm.
L. H.
Lovely staff. They are always extremely accommodating and are diligent when it comes to allergies. Oh and the food is delicious!
M. S.
Still one of the very best true southern indian restaurants I've had the good fortune to visit. Well worth the 500 mile round trip from the north...
W. F.
Really fantastic food with the seafood options being a particular highlight. Also, strongly recommend the breads. Service was excellent too.
N. G.
Really lovely food and a bit different to the usual curry restaurant offerings, service a bit slow but then we got free dessert to compensate at the end so no real complaints
T. I.
Very testy food. Thank you Kayal :)
L. M. K.
The thali and lunch deals are amazing. Fantastic value for money. The Goan fish curry is delightful. Lovely place to eat in a trendy part of Nottingham.
D. G.
Simply the best masala dosa in Nottingham.
Amazing food, nice atmosphere. Love the meal.
Definitely going back.
D.
Fantastic and completely original food.Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.Loved everything about it and would go back like a shot.Highly recommended.
G. D.
Great food, really good masala dosa reasonable prices
J. B.
Every time I go here, I have a chicken dish, because I'm an idiot.
I am doing Kayal wrong - stick to the fish and you'll get the most flavoursome and imaginative dishes.
Pro-tip - the lentil doughnuts are "a bit much"
S. O.
Good ambience and staff, food tasted decent. Certain seating sections of the hotel are shut during weekdays in the evening. Washrooms are compact.
D. K.
Food is good wouldn't say amazing.. The service and staff are pleasant but I think the place does need deep cleaning....
E. H.
I have been here several times and always been very impressed. They are also very helpful with special dietry requirements. I have been to Kerala and the food was very authentic. Also its very atmospheric and friendly. Recommended.
C. A.
Friendly staff, happy to let us talk and take all the time we wanted. Great menu and the dishes we chose were well presented and tasted beautiful.
A. A.
I have been here twice now. Both times loved my food. The masala dosa is amazing as was the aubergine curry. Its a nice cosy place with lovely helpful staff. Will definitely go back

A.
Great food, good portion size for the money. Service was excellent.
R. K.
Great food ,very attentive service and good atmosphere....however, I feel the options for leaving a tip on the card reader are a bit greedy, but think that the first option should start at 5%.
O. O.
Overall a good choice if you like Indian food, especially seafood curries. But it's a bit over priced. And the service is a bit dull and all over the place.
M. N.
Good Kerala cuisine. Very nice ambiance.
s. n.
Just delicious we always go there 🤤✋I would definitely recommend
C. S.
This is by far the best restaurant in Nottingham. I visit often, and am always impressed with the consistancy of the food and the quality of service. In the years of visits, I have never had a bad experience.

R. P.
Delicious..lamb melted in the mouth great friendly staff.
R. F.
Some of the best curry you can get in Nottingham for excellent prices. Quite often isn't fully booked up either so can often get a table on an otherwise busy night elsewhere.
S. M.
Excellent menu, food quality and helpful staff in food choices, in very pleasant surroundings, reminding us of our visit to Kerala.
F. J.
Great food but very long wait for food at lunch time. There lunch menu seemed a bit limited so chose from the main menu. If I go again I will try the lunch menu as at lunch time I have limited time.
m. m.
Very similar to the original Kerala cuisine. Portion were generous, prices were good and food was great as well as service! Really raccomend!

The best curry in Nottingham bar none, but don't come here expecting the usual Tikka Masala & Korma dishes as the food they serve up is class.

Fantastic food. Can get quite noisy but that is probably because it's so popular!
P. S.
A great place for authentic Indian food - lots of options for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters.
