S. L.We came to porterhouse by Barlows for our 10th wedding anniversary tonight after we had a fantastic experience in December.
We arrived to find that they had dressed our table with anniversary balloons and offered us a complimentary drink. They even remembered us from our one attendance in December. They also remembered my dietary restrictions and that was just the start of an amazing evening.
I ordered the pork belly and it was cooked to perfection. Very little fat and melt in the mouth tender.
My husband had the tomahawk steak (you need to pre order it) and it was huge! Perfectly cooked to how he likes it with chips that were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
All of the staff are friendly and attentive and it’s great that you can see Chef Dave cooking in the kitchen.
I can’t recommend this place enough.

T. M.I had a table booked for Valentines but unfortunately my partner caught covid so we couldn't go. Most companies would have cancelled my booking and taken my deposit, however they kindly transferred my deposit over to the butchers and gave me incredible sirloin steaks, the tastiest garlic mushrooms and some chips. I'm in awe of the service they provided when they didn't have to do that.

Very decently priced for the high quality food. If there's anything to complain about, it's the lack of parking and the limited tables. That did not hinder our fantastic meal.
M.Quality Friday evening dinner for two. Loved the bottle of sparkling rose, the pork belly from the a la carte menu is impeccable. Prices justified by quality of food. Eaten here a few times and fully recommend. Gutted to be moving away from the area.
A. H.Welcome we received and service throughout was second to none. Went for Sunday lunch and did 186 miles round trip for it. The surroundings were perfect and nicely spaced so felt comfortable. The only thing that bothered me was a soggy yorkie pud and it didn’t appear to be from gravy or because the meat was on top of it. Everything else was lovely. Would I make the 186 Mile round trip again? Yes I would go try a different meat or even go for steak night or a la carte. Keep up the good work guys, you can tell a lot about a place in how busy they were and there wasn’t a table free!

Didn't understand though why I had to pay £10 deposit when booking online. ? I didn't have to when I booked my first visit.

J.Excellent well priced Christmas menu. Helpful, attentive staff. They deserved the gratuity that I added. I then asked why it wasn't on our final check, as this advised on a board inside the restaurant. I was informed that they had been asked by a number of diners to remove it.
That's a shame, if the service is poor, understandable but if it was good, a reward is worth giving.

D.The food and atmosphere was lovely. Unfortunately the waitress had no manners and was in a big rush to get us in and get us out despite it not being very busy. On several occasions we had to say we didn't want more drinks and weren't ready for the bill. We literally got an hour before they were trying to push us out the door with bad manners, no etiquette 😒 luckily the food and wine were lovely!
P. W.In a word "Outstanding " can't fault a single thing. Friendly and great customer service, fantastic atmosphere, the food quality and portion sizes were great, and the value for money would be hard to beat. I cant recommend this restaurant enough and I cant wait to return.

S. L.Staff were friendly, lunch menu felt very limited. No drinks menus, asked if we wanted any sides or sauces but they weren't listed on the menu so you had to guess what they offered. Food was alright but we found the steaks to be very peppery. Prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes.
T. W.Disappointed to find out they are now serving their Christmas 3 course meal Fri/Sat evenings. Wish we had been told at time of booking. Parsnip soup was not very hot, both soup and Pate both served with pre bought crispy toast, would have been better served with bread or toasted bread. Chips with steak main seemed to be different to those served on steak nights (not as good). Steak, however was beautiful.
Dessert - sticky toffee pudding with drizzle of toffee sauce & custard was cold, had to ask for them to be heated up in microwave. Cheese board was served without butter. Whole experience seemed very rushed, was disappointed as previous experience there was excellent

J. F.This place is a family favourite for ourselves, our parents and siblings. We all love the place and will not have steak from anywhere else. It has always been perfect for us. The staff are always friendly and the service is non intrusive and they let you eat and drink until you are full. We have been to a birthday here and they staff were accommodating in letting us decorate beforehand. They have options for kids and high chairs etc. We have tried the Sunday dinner and the Xmas menu too and we have enjoyed it all. Worth every penny for the quality you get and always leave full! We love this little gem of a place :)

Scored highly on all points. The breakfast was very good. Tasty, well cooked and served up in good style. For meeting up situations like ours this venue is ideal.

Very obliging friendly servers, and the chef clearly cares about what he turns out and knows his job. But it's the food that matters. Honestly the best steak I've ever had eating out, my wife and sister in law who would readily admit to being food snobs were bowled over by the standard. And actually very good value. I certainly wouldn't say this place is dear considering what you get. Thoroughly recommended.

M. P.Food if you like steak then I think you will be struggling to find anywhere better. The staff are really nice and friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Prices are reasonable as well. As a wheelchair user, ramped access but steeper than it should be. If you book there are enough spaces down stairs to sit. The only real issue is the accessible toilet is outside and around the back, plus it has a 2 inch step up into it. Also you need to make sure the rear gate is open and lights are on when dark. All parking is on street.

B. F.We found this place on tripadvisor and I can't compliment it enough. The decor inside is pleasant. The staff are polite and accommodating. The food is to die for! So I had pigeon for a starter and I could of licked the plate clean. The steak was done to perfection. It was falling apart before I even started cutting it and what more important, is it was actually medium rare. The table next to us asked for rare and he couldn't eat it, because thats what he got. The desert was just as amazing. I honestly couldn't fault the place.
Also its very reasonably priced for the quality of it all.
