Reviews of Cap'n Jaspers
A. S.
This place has existed for many many years and is a landmark of Plymouth with lots of bikers congregating here. The food is simple and delicious. We had the rolls for breakfast and they were quite tasty. I would recommend the mackerel roll with onions...yum yum yum. Has a nice seating area overlooking the water.

Great location but I feel a slightly missed opportunity.
You know when something is “legendary” just because? Well this is one of those places. It’s reasonably cheap & cheerful food but the actual beef patty’s themselves would benefit from being better quality. They’re like the ones you get of questionable ingredients from a lay-by burger-van. Now I know this place is well loved by locals but with the burger market exploding in recent years I really do think they could do better.
The service was good enough, slightly long wait but acceptable even though not many customers waiting, I could see the cook was busy so fair enough.

This little food shack is loved by locals for its fast & hearty food.
Situated on the beautiful Barbican, you sit on picnic style tables right next to the water.
Don't expect luxury but just good, honest tasty food.
The tables can feel sticky & please note that the burgers / hot dogs etc are not served on plates, just on a laper serviette.
Good tip - ask for extra serviettes/ tissue as your hands will get very messy!
I had an 8oz "Honolulu" burger with cheese & pineapple. There were 3 layers of bread & I got in a right mess. The pineapple fell onto the floor but the resident seagulls happilly wolfed tgat down for their pudding.
Prices are reasonable - the most expensive items cost £6.50.
They take cash or cards.
On street metered parking nearby in Notte Street or in one of the pay & display car parks just off the Barbican.

Half a Yard of hot dog is a legend!! Delicious! Taste different every time (plenty of sauses to choose from). Small burgers are perfect for children.
Milkshakes are delicious too..
Highly recommended!!

Historic fast food outlet best visited on a sunny day. Staff very business like! But if a local regular then service is a lot warmer...
J. C.
Brilliant! I hadn't eaten here since being a student in 1989. Fantastic food and great value. I am sick of over priced 'designer' burgers. This is good honest food made to order. I had the Jasperizer, and as they do not do chips they suggested I bought some from a local chippy which I did. Burger and chips over-looking the marina, heaven.
D. R.
Our go to place for the freshest burger/rolls... Nothing is too much bother if you want extra/less options for your burger. Always a friendly service. Lovely chilled surroundings to eat and just be whilst people and boat watching!
L. V.
It was a really nice burger, it wasn’t too busy so they were doing your food and give it straight away, so it was nice and hot. My only issue, I couldn’t feel the cheese in the cheese burger at all, (i ordered a double one), but besides that, it was really good
h. w.
Food here is amazing, jasperizer is my go to. I am a bike so nice to see bikes there if you go down on a nice day/evening. Got a bit of building work on next to it at the moment much better when that isn't there.
S. M.
Every time I’m taking a walk to the Barbican, I always take a stop at Cap’n Jaspers for a small bite. For me the burgers here gives a street burger shack vibe and may be that’s what attracts me most of the time. The burgers are tasty and portions are big. It’s good value for money although it is not the most hygienic or the best burger place in Plymouth, but if you are craving something greasy and street style - this might be something you need to try!

Exactly what I was after during the annual fireworks competition.
The perfect blend of fresh, good quality tasty food and B&Q carpark burger van - not too posh.
A really interesting menu and really cheap for the quantity of food you get.
The Half Yard hot dog I can personally vouch for and certainly the only half yard my GF got to hold that night.
H. H.
This is a nice place. I’ve been a few times but the never cut the fat of the bacon.
The coffee is nice but as it’s made with steamed milk you soon get a skin on your drink
Cheers

I feel this place has gone down hill I recent years, used to be cheap and cheerful, but now it's more expensive and not even cheerful. Food quality had declined and prices have gone up. Some staff members are happy and cheerful and others just seem to think you are an inconvenience by ordering food. Please have a word with your staff and review your prices or what product you are buying from your supplier.
M. G.
Great location on the Barbican, good views of the fishing fleet based here in Plymouth plus so many other water craft - yachts, motor cruiser and gulls . The National Marine Aquarium is just a short walk over a swing bridge, passing the Mayflower Steps.
c. w.
Food is always great. Freshly cooked. Lots to choose from. Friendly staff. Nice seating area. Nice views of the Barbican.
R. S.
It's a great way to avoid having to have lunch. Plenty to go at. Sausage stick worth the price but a bit too much of a sausage gap at either end. Having said that less bread would still have been good value. Pic is half a yard of hotdog.
S. E.
Been using the place for 40 or so years. Actually as I remember the current lady owner worked there for her father who set up the business. (but could be wrong) It used to be a van outside the fish market (now a shop) on the main road with a shed kinda attached to it! Would ride down there with mates an park outside for a burger and a cuppa. Anyway, seems the biker isn't that welcome anymore. Well at least that's the vibe generally and it's why more and more are willing to pay more at another van! Shame really as for what it is and what they charge, the food and drink at jasper's has always been good and consistent. Just can't seem to see what the problem is! If there is one?
A. P.
Cap'n Jaspers was a favourite place of my husband's in his younger years, so on our first trip to England together, this was the #1 place he wanted to eat. I didn't believe a word he said - how good it was, how huge the portions, how low the prices.... but then we went and oh my word. The food really is melt in your mouth delicious and they do not shy away from toppings or portions. The staff work like a well oiled machine. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't finish my first Jasperizer a few years ago that when we came back this past September, we had to go back so I could try again! Food was so good and I will always crave more - even from Canada ❤

This is a street cafe that seems to have become a really popular, iconic, stopping place on The Barbican in Plymouth. And it's right on the waterfront of the harbour. Obviously popular with tourists in and out of season but, more importantly, a definite focal point for locals - including armed services personnel, police, ambulance and other services. Oh, and must not forget the regular number of bikers that pull up for refreshment - no, not the hells angels, true bike enthusiasts; most with very nice bikes!
Good friendly staff who work quickly but the wait is because your food is always made to order. Wonderful system involved : one takes your money and writes down your order and then attaches it to a bulldog clip and slides it along a wire to where the person who cooks it is waiting/cooking. You walk away with a numbered ticket.
Based on fried food the menu is good and offers different size versions of things like its famous sausage, egg and fried onion roll (if you've not tried fried onions in your sausage and egg roll - this is the place to try it!). Soft drinks, coffee and tea available (and yes, the spoon is attached to the counter!).
Take away or sit on one of their benches with the uniquely designed chain legs.
A. W.
Absolutely love visiting jasper's best burgers around and my cheesy hot dog delicious as always .
k. c.
There is a reason this place has been open and popular since 1976. Great food. Whenever anyone outside of Plymouth comes to visit this is where I bring them.
J. D.
Inexpensive food usually prepared quickly. Popular with locals and travelers, including friendly bikers stopping by. Good views of the inner harbour. Defibrillator on seaward wall, yellow box in photo.
B. L.
Great food good price nice people, highly recommend
K. G.
Always lovely food, freshly cooked. Really nice.
?. t.
Been a long time since we was down here at cap'n jaspers but has not changed, the bacon cheese and pineapple stick was ace 👍🤗
T. D.
Great food. Always friendly staff. Been visiting for years ever time i visit my home town.
m. m.
Been going for years always friendly and great food
M. H.
I was fortunate enough to have the choice chicken and the straight 4oz burger. Both were v nice and reasonably priced, also v nice sweet chilli sauce
K. R.
I visit CJs most weeks on a Monday and the food and service is consistently good.
A. V.
Excellent food and quick service! Good prices too for massive meals.
R. W.
What more could you ask for than nice food, a great cuppa, sea air and a wonderful view.
M. W.
It's been a few years since my last visit but I wasn't disappointed. There's a photo on the wall of how it used to be. That picture shows how I remember many brews after cycling with friends and finishing on the Barbican. That's also how it was when Radio 1 DJ Mike Reid interviewed me whilst having a brew back in the eighties. Terrific food and pretty much guaranteed to meet sociable people here.
We visited Jaspers a few years ago and met a man who invited us to sit astride his Rocket (no, not Elon Musk it was a Triumph Rocket). A sociable Jaspers customer who was being friendly on a damp Sunday evening. This sort of encounter makes Jaspers a favourite each time I return to Plymouth.
A. R.
Fantastic and original.... Can't call it fast food, it's great food.... Quick...
Ideal for locals and tourists alike, a visit to the Barbican, Plymouth won't be complete unless you experience a Jadperizer...
C. E.
I Love Capenhurst jasper's The food is nice and They sell a Good choice off stuff. And The staff are freindly
L. J.
Fresh cooked food, varied menu and good prices. The legend that is Cap'n Jaspers
M. P.
Cheap and cheerful with a very reasonably priced greasy spoon type menu, beautiful views.
R. R. A.
Nice place for burgers and hot dogs. Perfect location to hang and chill. Burgers are a bit salty though.
D. H.
Brilliant place and lovely food nice and friendly and great for social distances too 😀
C. H.
Cheese on burgers was tasteless, staff distracted by friends and not really paying attention to customers. Shame really, not very professional at the moment.
A. D.
Nice food , a bit over priced. Staff a bit rude
M. A.
Great value and lovely good quality fresh food. Beautiful views.
A.
Extremely friendly and customer focused team of ladies producing awesome food (we had 1/2lb cheeseburger and yard long sausage dog) in a delifhtful setting seated overlooking marina, highly recommend.
S. S.
Over the top burgers and stuff. Some changes. It's been spruced up and screens added to the servery. Sauces now have to be ordered and are no longer service. Great location on the harbourside.
M. B. (. B.
The food was very nice and the staff very helpful. My only criticism; the tables were dirty and the surrounding area was covered in bird muck, which put my others friends off from eating there. Could benefit from a daily jet wash. Can't fault the food or the view, just needs to be cleaner.
s.
Amazing burger, amazing prices and friendly staff considering how busy and warm the day wass
K.
The burgers they serve are absolutely gorgeous. The customer service is good. Would recommend going here
B. W.
Haven't been here for years, since it was a mug'o'tea place! Cracking food and at a more than reasonable price. Highly recommended.
A. S.
I first went to Capn Jasper's back when they were nearer the road and the fish market was still there. The North Atlantic burger has always been my favourite, though you seem to get fewer prawns than before..... miss the flapping sea gulls etc, they added character, still worth visiting, even if it's just to have a look at the bikes..... seems to be a bikers meeting place.
S. C.
Great food, good weather, good views. Love this place.
J. C.
Don't try walking up a hill after taking down a Jasperizer 🍔😆 eating here is like a right of passage for any local and I highly recommend anyone from out of town visiting to give it a try 👌 you won't be disappointed 👍
P. F.
One of the 'must visit' places in Plymouth. Set in the Barbican it can get extremely busy and seating is limited on such occasions, but still worth the effort. Staff very friendly and prices are competitive with other food outlets.
M. S.
Food is always good but there service below pa. They only shout order number at check out so if you sat on there tables at the rear you can't hear your number so miss food when just cooked.
L. W.
It's lovely, eating good food, over looking the harbour. The staff are friendly
A. M.
good food, struggled to eat ‘the mexican’ sandwich and only given a kitchen towel to eat with - dropped half the fillings everywhere
j.
Surprisingly tasty breakfast food as this is the cheapest place for a snack on the marine area.
Sizeable sandwich 😊
Always busy👍
Nice coffee and sausage sandwich before exploring plymouth.
Congratulations for keeping the prices low👏
Recommended for a warming drink and sustenance to start the day off😉👍
M. B.
It's one of Plymouth's biggest names, it can be found on the Barbican next to the marina, which it over looks over.
So lots of beautiful views to be seen while tucking into a Jasperiser a big burger to the hungriest of people or maybe join the half a yard club a large hot dog which could prove a challenge (could you be worthy of the half yard club badge?)
Me personally I feel you get great and fast service, as well as good value for money. The perfect place for a hangover cure a spot of lunch or maybe dinner.
As it suggests in the description it's a fast food place so don't go thinking gourmet.
It's also not to fair from a tourist information centre or the National Marine Aquarium.
R. S.
Fast service, good tasty BLT and burgers at competitive prices.
M. W.
We've eaten here a handful of times. The food is at a very good price compared to other nearby eateries. The quality of the food in my experience has never been questionable. For those with a big appetite I fully recommend the Jasperizer Burger.
The lost star rating here, although the food is great their coffee is awful. The only good thing to say about it, is it was served hot.
S. W.
Really great food - I love the menu being quite straightforward but still with lots of choice. Prices are very reasonable - £5.50 for a HUGE burger with cheese and bacon.
D.
Great food for breakfast! Pleasant place to sit looking over harbour area too.
F. T.
Great place with awesome views. Hot and cold drinks. Food is tasty. We often meet up with other motorbikes there. There's no parking. However if you carry on past and go up the road to the car park it's a pleasant walk back down.
J. H.
Rare outing to Plymouth today. Had to have lunch at Cap'n Jaspers and it was just as I remembered it.
Good honest fare, lovely friendly staff excellent value and quality ingredients. Thank goodness it hasn't lost it's charm!
N. K.
Nothing beats a jasperizer from Captain Jasper's. No that I'm biased but being using them for at least 45 years!
J. J.
As always generous portions and very tasty. Would also recommend their coffee. However the burgers were not up to the usual quality and a bit too greasy today. Still enjoyable though
O. H.
Icon of Plymouth.
I always have and will continue love this place
i. t.
Great burger. But poor customer service.
G. S.
Banging, but not if you're on a diet. World famous and appears in GTA
r. m.
World famous and top value for money and great food and happy staff.
m.
Fantastic place for hot food and freshly made - great spot for bikers too
N. M.
First visit - Mexican.
Second visit - The Jasperiser
Both visits - speedy service, friendly staff and incredible food. If you're ever visiting, or even passing through Plymouth, make Cap'n Jasper's a must visit!!
S. M. (.
Awesome place, I keep coming back to this place, food is excellent, amazing staff, covered seating. If you ever get the chance I highly recommend a visit.
M. S.
Always have { big j } .. French stick with egg, bacon , sausage ..
s. j.
Fantastic place to stop off mid motorbike ride for a loverly burger and cuppa
L. D.
Lovely location to grab some food whilst soaking in the marina views. Staff were beaming with big smiles and friendly conversation. Portions were huge, so I can safely say satisfaction was met.
N. B.
Really wonderful service and the burgers were amazing !! Only doing 4 stars because my hot dog didn't have onions in by mistake, and the sausages were a fair bit shorter than the bread so it was a lot of just bread to eat. It tasted great but just maybe some better quality sausages would be good !!
J. C.
Brilliant food as always, great value and family friendly.
K.
Very cheap and nice burgers. You won't be dissapointed. Big buns, proper piece of meat, unlimited refills of drinks. Nice place. Honestly one of the best places to feed yourself up at very low cost. Definitely 5 stars.
A. H.
You must go to Cap'n Jaspers of you visit Plymouth. Love the food, vibe and position on the Barbican.
N. A.
Amazing place to visit, best burgers we've ever had. Now a must do activity when we visit family. So many choices, something for everyone. Great price for tea and coffee. A really lovely location to sit, eat and watch the boats. It's also very popular with bikers and there are always interesting bikes parked nearby to look at.
K. J.
Absolutely love it! Whether it's after a few beverages in the evening, with the kids for a treat or like us instead of a Sunday lunch it can't be beaten. Top quality, good portion sizes, clean, amazing views, friendly staff. One of Plymouth's gems/landmarks
M. M.
The sizes of the sandwiches are amazing. You're definitely won't leave hungry. The food tastes amazing and the sea view is also great. Might be a bit chilly in colder seasons but it's no reason not to stop by.
D. W.
Love this place. Have been going here for years, mainly as a treat. Good honest food, very friendly staff and has a great view whilst you sit and eat. I definitely recommend captn jasper's to anyone else that visits the barbican. Nothing flash or fancy, just good honest food, excellent. 👌👌👍👍
J. C.
Brilliant meeting place. Lovely coffee and food. Reasonably priced too.
G. W.
Jasper's has been around for ever. Loved it in the early days but good food & kept it's authentic feel & still has it's quirkyness. Awesome burgers! 🍔 🌭 & would rate them as the best in the City. 💓
L. D.
Great food and great value for the money
H. M.
Best burgers you'll get in Plymouth
O. M.
Bank holiday Monday evening, nice place to enjoy a burger by the quay, fairly quiet but food was ok, had the Mexican baguette, decent portion and piping hot.
Will try the jasperizer burger next time
T. S.
Its a ritual.... when we sail into Plymouth we eat at Jaspers. The NY BLT is a breakfast staple....
G. W.
Fantastic food and everytime I go down there the staff are all great and friendly and very polite.
K. B.
The best burger in the world
A. M.
As good as always. There was a large queue and a bit of a wait, but it was worth it.
J. H.
Every year we go to see family in Plymouth xx
Our 2nd stop is always Cap n Jasper's xx
Food is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are absolutely fantastic so friendly and approachable xx
S. 9.
I fully recommend getting the Jasperizer. A double burger with bacon and melted cheese and onions (optional). Popular for its warm cups of tea which is ideal for keeping cosy in the blustery Plymouth wind. Wide menu range from a simple bacon bap to a Hawaiin burger. Great prices. A fiver for a double bad boy burger. Quick and careful cooking. Friendly staff. Cannot go wrong. Filling, unique tasting and a perfect location on Plymouth's famous Barbican. A beautiful sea side view will grab you and I'm sure the food will keep you coming back for more.
A. B.
Went for the 2 foot hotdog 🤣 lovely food and friendly staff 👌🏼 My parents told me about this place, great to see it’s maintained it’s great reputation 👌🏼👌🏼
B. V.
Great harbourside venue, very atmospheric, good cup of tea, watch the world go by place. magic !!!
S. S.
Best place ever.... Best burgers on this planet... Nice Location. Nice staff.. Highly recommended
R. P.
Long wait for the food as they cook to order (which is fine) but my cheeseburger was pretty tasteless and the cheese, while real cheddar) was cold and un-melted.
My biggest concern was that for all the time that I was there, about 10 minutes, a Tupperware full of sausages and bacon was open on the side which couldn't possibly be hygienic or safe.
T. H.
Go here whenever at the barbican. Staff are friendly and service is good. Do a great cup of tea and there food portions are very generous. Prices are good and beautiful setting. Can get busy. Very popular with bikers and lots of lovely bikes to look at. Totally recommended it.
T. H.
Probably the best street food you’ll ever have.
Positive things:
-tasty food
-quick service
-cheap
-always busy so the food doesn’t get old
-nice views
-friendly staff
Less positive things:
-if it rains, you’ll be wet
-if you prefer a fancy restaurant, you won’t get it here
J. K.
Top food & reasonably priced, if you're really hungry try the Jasperizer!
D. a. M.
Visiting Cap'n Jaspers is a great experience as it has become part of the historic landscape of the Barbican. I've seen this venue grow in size and interest over the past 40 years and yet the food remains as good as it always was. There have clearly been no shortcomings or shortcuts for them to have got to where they are today and the fine Gentleman who founded this institution would be very proud.
D. P.
Have been coming here since 1986, and although the 'building' has changed massively (and moved too), the menu has remained surprisingly and pleasantly very similar. Not quite as quirky as years ago but still an interesting 'kitchen' to be served from.
Always good food, competitive prices, friendly staff in a classic part of the city.
Highly recommended!
A. A.
The beating culinary heart of the barbican, the jasperizer, built to satisfy any hunger, highly recommended it's bloody delicious scran for sure.
G. M.
Food and menu was good. The only thing that spoils it .is the fact we were hoping for a choice of bread roll. Some in our group would of preferred wholemeal rolls because of diets etc.
in fact they ate the filling and just left the white roll uneaten
A. B.
Simple food, great views and a fantastic open air setting. Been going here for many a year and it's still a great place to stop for a bite. Popular with bikers on a ride as well as families on a day out. 20p deposit for the mugs (tea and coffee). A family favourite.
P. H.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The choice of food is extremely good, if you like burgers, bacon sausages etc then it is worth a visit. Very novel and good value. Also lots of motor cyclists meet here and display their machines
I. S.
Freshly cooked food well worth the wait.
Good sized portions.
G. G.
A Plymouth icon and damn right taste fest stopping off at the cap's lol 🤣
K. M.
Food is incredible, massive portions. Great value for money.
Polite and fast service.
M. S.
This place is great. I get the (jasperiser) for the price, you are not going to get a bigger burger, any were in plymouth. I'd even say devon. Don't waist your cash on mackys or bk, go here you won't regret it... big statement I know, but the grub is great...
T. R.
Burger van quality greasy grub that is overpriced but in a wonderful location. If you're in the mood for the kind of burger you'd usually grab stumbling home drunk on a night out, then this is the place for you. Otherwise, it's worth paying a bit extra and having a real meal at one of the plenty of fantastic restaurants literally seconds from you in the same beautiful location.
C. S.
Great food cracking atmosphere
A. C.
For me one of the best places to eat in Plymouth. Huge, gorgeous, burgers cooked fresh while you wait. Because of this don't go expecting Burger King-like speed, but I promise you every single burger is well worth waiting for. I recommend the 'Whitehouse Wonder'.... Absolutely delicious!!!
A. B.
Good quality food cooked to order. Very good value. Tea is only 70p per mug. A good sign is that the emergency services use this place for a break. Been coming here for 30plus years.
j. m.
So ,so down to earth no faffing about just good honest fare. An all in alfresco experience next to the harbour
R. R.
Food amazing and fairly priced. Staff are great dealing with the volumes they get. Seating looks quirky.
D. T.
It's a great little place known by all, in the perfect location. The staff are friendly and the food if good, what more could you ask for.
M. I.
Simply the best - always has been! Great food and didn't mind the wait - and that was only because there were so many customers!
Z.
Good honest food served in a beautiful setting, the only thing that could be better are the veggie burgers, but even they are ok and the setting makes up for it
A. G.
Always good value tasty food. Massive burgers and hot dogs. Just be prepared to wait for your order.
J. T.
This is cheerfully, good milky coffee, takeaway food and all done in a great no nonsense way, love this place,if you come by motorcycle, you can park outside.
y.
Must visit in Plymouth Harbour, largest breakfast in a Bun, ever (imo)
D. H.
Good burgers. Champion
J. M.
Such a lovely place to visit. Friendly staff, great food at good prices. We will be back soon.
C. S.
I love this place!
I go every Wednesday evening with my friend's from dance. Even if we aren't hungry, we'll go down for a hot drink and a chat.
At night especially, it is lovely to be looking out at the harbour
R. H. (.
Amazing food, lovely location.
s. f.
Always a great evening had when here highly recommend it. Not sure on the changes made due to covid but still amazing staff and a great place love the half yard..
D. M.
Absolutely brilliant! We visited several times during our stay in Plymouth and the food was always delicious and quick. The staff was friendly and our view was lovely. We couldn't ask for a better experience and we will be sure to get our fill next time we return to the UK!
P. L.
Coffee poor but cheap, the Fisherman's Breakfast (or big J) was substantial, but roll was a soft one, would've preferred a French baguette... More flavour and texture. Pickles and relish all free, don't forget to get your 20p refund on your coffee cup!
D. W.
So lovely that they prepped my burger low carb style... Impromptu plate and all ready cut up so easy to eat without the bun. And without asking them to. Very considerate.
S. K.
Great cup of coffee and service.
p. m.
Been going here for 30 years. Not much has changed, still quite reasonable ..very week tea as always, they expect it to brew instantly! One thing very notable which is dissapointing - no staff ever clean the seating area and tables. Bin always filthy. Would'nt take much effort to make a better experience for the customer
T. P.
Food is definitely worth the wait! Delicious, great atmosphere and prime spot on the dockside. Popular with the biker scene but not at all intimidating. Defo check it out!
P. T.
Amazing food. Reasonable price. Have to sit outside but it was fine. A favourite for bikers but never any trouble. A must if you are visiting Plymouth
A. T.
Iconic landmark and great value fodder!

Always great hot food and super value. It isn't fine dining and it doesn't pretend to be.
The staff are always pleasant and, considering that it is always busy, you do not have to wait too long before you can pile all the relish's and sauces on.
Love it and wholeheartedly recommend it.
C. W.
Cheap and decent grub, with friendly staff and a great biker meeting place, what's better than being by the water with a brew, grub and oogling at motorbikes.
Just be weary of the sea gulls, I swear down there they are all training for the world's strongest gull competition!
r. w.
Absolutely monster burgers and food, such great value and setting
D. P.
What a brilliant place. Ordered chips and a hotdog for myself and my wife and very good they were. Sat in the sun with a fantastic view of the harbour. Despite being very busy the staff are friendly and welcoming. Would recommend.
J. R.
A Plymouth institution but effectively its a glorified burger van so don't expect five star food. Good value for the money and large portions but service was a little slow when I visited as they were training someone new on the grill although everyone else got there food quick enough. If I partied in Plymouth as a youngster then no doubt I'd come here for the post nightclub munch every time.
M. S.
Everybody loves a Jasper's.
G. I.
Always 5 stars. No frills, no bells or whistles. It's Jasper's and that's all it is. Always open and always ready, rain or shine and night or day and always when you need it. Stunning location too... what's not too like. Also, a good employer of local teens which no doubt gets overlooked. Go on, order yourself a mug of tea and a bacon bap and soak up the sea air... you'll not regret it!!!
L. W.
5 star for a quick and easy burger, it's no gourmet burger but it's what you'd expect from a fast food shack.
T. B.
Fantastic food. Only wish you did chips as well.
D. D.
Have been going here since I can remember with all the quirky gadgets in, on and behind the counter made it a very interesting and exciting place for a small kid lol. But all that aside food is top nosh staff are always amazing with great customer service, the prices are very special too. I will most definitely keep going and bring my family and friends too.
J. G.
This is burger heaven, a must for any visitor to Plymouth
C. T.
Brilliant place to stop off for a bite to eat if your on a bike, there are always bikes down there and you get a good view of the harbour too
J. S.
Great place for a big burger, the portions are massive although you do pay extra. Try the jasperizer I could hardly finish it. Great views of the marina and a great place to chat and hang out. The staff could be a bit friendlier but nothing to complain about.
J. O.
Wowsers! This is the place to go for hungry peeps in Plymouth. The burgers were huge and very tasty. I love that you can help yourself to accompaniments like gherkins and burger sauce, rather than just the regular red or brown sauce, which were both in plentiful supply.
I recommend the Jasper's special burger, first on the list, bacon burger, beef and cheese burger with bacon and fried onions. I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day!
Truly a little delight and worth a visit. Most of the posh burger places must weep having this beauty on their doorstep. Bargain burgers, no frills but all the taste.
Already hoping to revisit another time.
J. L.
Classic biker cafe, great food and drink at even better prices and it’s a staple of Plymouth
L. F.
Had a massive hotdog, absolutely incredible! Obviously popular as there were a few waiting to order BUT they were quick with getting orders out. Hubs and kids had burgers, lush!!
S. H.
I was looking for food in the morning with my Dad, most places were closed so we settled on Cap'n Jaspers not expecting much. Wow were we wrong! Delicious food, great customer service and really nice tables/benches too. Highly recommended, I will be back soon.
S. G.
Quick service an open air ambience located on The Parade Barbican.Captain Jaspers serves up burgers and hotdogs known for its jasperizer ! Get to the Captain and be jasperized .
M. H.
First came here when it was a mere hut, it's grown substantially since then but the food, service and atmosphere are just the same. Highly recommended for everyone to try.
a. p.
Great biker meeting place, it's a burger bar which sells good food at great prices. No change from previous years food is still what you expect and it's a nice place to sit and chill out by the water
d. n.
A great place to go and plenty of parking for bikes near the place. The food was good and very reasonably priced and everyone likes a nice cup of tea by the water side. Staff were very happy and friendly, a real pleasure to visit
D. S.
Loved the atmosphere. Very busy. Service was excellent. Xx
M. Y.
I've been here a few times, good food at good prices and good sized portions, therefore good value for money.
R. J.
An excellent place to eat situated on Plymouths Seafront. The food is good value and the menu offers a lot of choice. If you're looking for somewhere to eat on the Seafront you can't go wrong here. It is to be noted that this is not fine dining but down to earth, working class food. I would personally recommend the Jasperizer.
C.
Nice enough hot dogs and burgers and a decent variety. Nothing particularly to write home about though, I'm not sure world renowned is a phrase that should particularly apply to this place.
J. M.
Always happy to eat here as the food is always great, fresh and unusually how you want it. Staff are always helpful if you having a coffee or food. Ample seating and good area the Plymouth barbican.
K. S. 4. L.
They have spelt 'Captain' wrong
D. P.
Cheap and cheerful with views that can compete with anywhere in the world
l. w.
Busy little place and once you have tried it you will know why! Brilliant hotdogs and burgers all to be enjoyed while looking over the harbour. Would highly recommend it to anyone that is in the area.
J. H.
Coffee was nice. (Cold rainy morning). not impressed with the £2 minimum spend on card, luckily I found some cash in the bag.
P.
It's an institution for a reason. Totally worth a walking visit when you're on the waterfront for some of the pleasingly guiltiest meat-inna-bun-with-onions available.
m. r.
Great food well worth a visit.
M. C.
Nice food. Friendly service. Big half yarder
C. D.
We sailed 45nm just to eat here :-) it's a firm family favourite and it doesn't matter about the weather. Excellent cuppa and a really yummy 8oz bacon and egg burger! Long walk required afterwards 😉
C. W.
Omg it's an amazing place to dine in out out won't go anywhere else xxxxc
P. R.
Great atmosphere at captain jaspers motorbikers, police, families, grumbly old men and cyclists. I was both of the last categories. Had a veggie burger and fried egg plus a cuppa for less than £4, it was lovely and served with a smile. Nothing I would improve. P
H. N. H.
One of the main reasons I cycle into the centre of Plymouth is to loop through the Hoe and drop down to Cap'n Jasper's for a refuel stop. During the week it opens at 7.30am and 8.00am on Sunday. Brilliant butties, all sorts of everything and coffee (or tea) to go with them. 20p deposit on the mugs which is refunded when mug returned. Pop the 20p in the charity box.
L. C.
Food is good, portion sizes and range great, love the milky coffee's but the staff need to listen got our order wrong twice with the same thing.
T. A.
Amazing meaty things, all very cheap too. A popular spot for Plymouth locals and bikers, serving awesome Hot Dogs, burgers, and so on!
S. F.
It's been my go to place on my motorbike since 1984
P. P.
Very nice spot, Get an alcohol licence it will be even better. Only marked 4 out of 5 as the quality if the burger patties let's the Jasperizer down, but apart from that it's well worth the money. Once you learn to eat a Jasperizer it's much less messy but seen many friends tackle one for first ti.e and struggle.
m. d.
I've loved this place for years, the 1/2 yard hotdog is a must have if you are near by.
Cap'n Jasper's is a low cost friendly place I love to go after going to the aquarium.
P. J.
Great food . Great price.. been going to cap.n jaspers for years ...
E. M.
good food cheap and quick good for a quick stop or take away and they give you 20p if you bring the mug back after drinking your tea instead of throwing it in the sea (actually is quite common to see divers go down to collect mugs and make some cash) so thats a fun bonus
S. B.
Excellent food and really good value for money. Will definitely visit again was superb.Lovely cup of milky coffee. Staff very friendly and service was really great.
R. D.
Captain jaspers is a great place to enjoy hearty food for a great price. A favourite place for motorcyclists and families alike. Whenever we're in Plymouth we always head down the barbican for our lunch there. What's not to like?
L. C. M.
Cap 'n' Jaspers. Such an amazing little open restaurant. It may not be the healthiest of places, but it's truly brilliant. A lovely little place, by the sea. It's also very popular, so be quick with your journey there!
C.
Best Burgers in plymouth, North Atlantic is to die for, i never knew prawns went so well in a BBQ beef burger. just wish it had more sheltered area, still eating a burger in stormy weather is all part of the charm. weather never stops me from going in when i'm hungry for the Captain's produce!
C. C.
Love the location right in the heart of the barbican. If you like burgers and hotdogs you'll like the choices on the menu. Personally love there Honululu burger with the pineapple and cheese.
R. C.
Cap'n Jasper's. The world famous harbourside cafe that's buzzing all year round. Simple food fried to order quickly by happy, friendly staff. Very reasonable prices and short waiting times. Beats mcshytes hands down every time!
D. L.
I had a Jesperizer and it was nuts. The most unhealthy meal you can get, but it was delicious. Amazing for just 5£, should be for 2 people because its huge. You'll need ton of napkins
M. F.
No trip to Plymouth is worth it without a visit to cap'n jaspers. We love coming here! Food is amazing!
T. S.
Good food, nothing too fancy but if you're looking for a cheap bite to eat like a bacon roll and a coffee this is the place. Excellent value for money.
R. H.
Friendly staff, good value for money. Filling and fresh food, cooked to order. Very popular with locals
J. C.
A classic Plymouth establishment, awesome food and very friendly! I've been going since I was a toddler and it's always been brilliant 😄 if you're looking for great Plymouth food come here!
J. R.
Quick , fast and tasty food! From a proper quirky hut, although the hut is now a purpose built unit.
Tables and benches 'stand' on chains.
A delight to sit on the edge of the harbour with a cuppa and a gorgeous burger!
D. M.
Cheap good honest food! There's a reason it's been there so long! 👍
M. S.
Cap'n Jasper's has been a regular for me my whole life, always friendly service with great food at a good price and freshly prepared to order
G. o. a. e. u.
Good food, great place to meet with fellow bikers for a chat and a ride out
m. h.
Great place to stop and eat before the final destination of St Ives.
Lovely food, service and views.
M. F.
Great place to go for a really great tea or coffee. Coffee made with milk and only a pound. Food good and all freshly cooked by the great staff. Open really early till late
A. M.
The world famous Cap'n Jaspers is great place to start and end your day. The middle bit is pretty good too. The saying "breakfast like a king... " could have been written to describe Cap'n Jaspers. The prices are incredibly low and the views are spectacular. Enjoy looking at the motorcycles on one side and the boats on the other or just watch the people going by. If you are visiting Plymouth make at least one trip to Cap'n Jaspers.
D. M.
Although, Plymouth can now boast about some fine restaurants, especially in the Royal William Yard. With a lot of London’s top chefs opening new places. These new eateries have seen some great choices of prepared food. With all of this choice why would you keep going back to a place that started life as a 6”x12” ply wood shack?
The world famous Cap’t Jaspers located on the Barbican on Plymouth harbour started life as a make-do “Greasy Spoon just outside of the old fish market Sutton Harbour. The make-do shack grew in size until it was moved to its current location in the old police station.
Although, the menu is fairly limited all food is locally sourced and fresh. The food is freshly cooked to order so at busy times there may be a delay in getting your order. The wait is usually worth it. It's worth remembering that a busy restaurant is a good restaurant. Cap’t Jaspers is as popular first thing in the morning as it last thing at night.
Since the move to it’s current location there has been some changes for the better. No longer is the tea spoon chained to the counter. The sauces and pickles have expanded with a greater selection. There are now benches and tables where you can sit enjoy your food and watch the world go by.
3. E. S. E.
My husband loves this place. Great location and always great staff.
P. T.
Really good relatively cheap burger and hotdog stand. Also the local biker hangout so if you want to view some well maintained bikes pop down in the evenings.
g. W.
Covid has ruined the atmosphere for this place, food still good, staff pleasant, alongside the harbour with nice views, well worth a try.
K. U.
One of my favourites places for food. They have such a variety and for such good prices. Honestly lovely!
T. S.
Good old greasy burger. Waited a while for food but it was cooked in front of you
G. B. M. G.
Always great food and good atmosphere
J. W.

A. S.
Absolutely lovely food value for money
I. C.
Plymouth street food at it's finest for burgers. People whom travel the world trying burgers. Come back for a Jasperiser. History behind this establishment is interesting and evolving.

Could be a one off
But will go back and not put off by the experience
j. h.
Great place for food the staff are nice and polite highly recommended try the half a yard hotdog
J. W.
There are few finer or more accessible things in life than a visit to Captain Jaspers after a visit to the theatre and on this occasion as so often before over the past 37 years they didn't disappoint with a fantastic Whitehouse Wonder and a large Honolulu washed down with 2 mugs of tea!
J. W.
Been getting quality freshly cooked fare from this much loved institution since 1981. It's changed somewhat over the past 37 years but it's still fabulous, in particular the Whitehouse Wonder, Jasperiser and the world famous marvelous Maceroll.
M. H.
Great service. Awesome burgers. If you haven't been....GO!
J. B.
Had a wonderfully tasting sausage bacon and egg bap. Wrapped in foil to take away. Great service!
D. H.
Good value, I got the half yard hotdog but they split the sausage length ways taking away the hotdog experience in my book. Sausage quality average.
l. n.
Chances are if you live in Plymouth you have visted cap'n jaspers at some piont. Always cooked fresh enjoyable surroundings on Plymouths barbican waterfront.
A. C.
Lovely Jumbo Hot Dogs. Nice place to sit by the water. Good value.
P. V.
Always a friendly place good burgers . Been going here for many years . Motorbike friendly . Great views over harbour . Lots goes on entertainment in area
R. L.
Always one of the highlights of a trip to Plymouth. Ordered the Jasperiser and wasnt disappointed. Staff are friendly and attentive and the gulls waiting for any crumbs to drop are always a bonus on a damp winters morning
M. K.
The best burgers in Plymouth with a view of the harbor! Try the Jasperizer if you're hungry and feeling up to it -- it's the most popular item on the menu for good reason!
P. R.
Very yummy food and very good prices. Available all.hours with great view! They even now take card payments!
K. E. (. E. F.
Thank god for this place, there's way too many £12 per meal places in this area of town, so when you just want to enjoy a normal no frills burger or hotdog with your kids this place has you covered.
b. l.
Only had a drink but it was a very nice hot chocolate!
S. C.
Really nice - good value for money. Their service is pretty quick, but more to the point the food is great and really good value - portions are large and filling and very tasty

I. T.
It's a Plymouth institution, you're not a Janner until you've had a Cap'n Jaspers
R. S.
Excellent variety of burgers and the famous jasperizer.
Great value, friendly staff in a fantastic location.
Would definitely recommend.
I. L.
Expect a queue, the food is amazing, all wrapped and ready to go, covid friendly. with brilliant helpful staff
L. D. A.
Heard alot about Cap'n Jaspers and finally got round to trying their wares. I ordered the signature dish the Jasperizer a sumptuous quarter pounder topped with cheddar cheese and then topped with another quarter pounder which in turn is topped with bacon......shock horror the calories, the fat ,the........ well my friend let me stop you there, the food here is so good it could turn a vegan back to normal and a fitness freak into a bloaty great whale man because even though I was full I wanted to order more. Dave the seagull said he tried Chihuahua but it didn't stack up to cap'n jaspers food. If you live in plymouth and you haven't been here yet then my old mucker you have a screw loose, get to the barbican and get chubby because you'll be wanting to come back before you even leave.
L. H.
If you havn't already go and eat something! You may ponder at the menu a while but what ever you decide I'm sure it won't disapoint. Just maybe don't eat all day before your visit!
P. E.
Bloody georgous burgers brilliant value ...highly recommend
K. N.
Great grub, shame no chips though but doesn't affect quality of food.
S.
This place is infamous with the locals. There's nothing better than eating a "Jasperizer" whilst watching the boats sail by at the Barbican. The place is very popular and gets busy most of the time. Worth a visit.
A. R.

I. H.
Always great food, this isn't fast food but good food served fast average half yarder served in 15 minutes at peak rush times, well done to the staff.
M. R.
If you want the Tofu whole wheat cappuccino cafe experience then walk away. If you want cheap, good food (if not always healthy) with tea that can stain teflon come here. It doesn't matter if it is a lunchtime snack or a morning after cure always a winner
P. T.
Right now closed for the night. But had an excellent bacon, egg and cheese butter today on my first ride of the New Year
N. T.
Love this place worth going to plymouth just for their burgers and coffee
D. C.
Always friendly service and lovely food, very good value for money 😁
S. W.
Oh my, a local favourite and an inquisite tourists must. Not for those healthy food freaks that's for sure, a greasetastic seaside epic. Jamie Oliver would be turning in his grave (if he was dead and if he wasn't so portly himself). Make sure you go for the Jasperiser...oh and order a heart attack with that...with extra grease...
s. c.
You absolutely can't go wrong here, it's the home of the perfect bacon butty. Once you've tasted a Jasperiser, you'll never go anywhere else.
M. M.
I can't come to Plymouth without going to Cap'n Jasper's. It'd be heracy. Perfect place to stop for a big ol' burger by the harbourside, Have a chat and just enjoy my day.
