Reviews of Kingfisher Fish & Chips
A. M.
Very good service and friendly, fish and chips very well cooked and not sitting around like other chippies.
Fresh cooking means food very tasty and cooked to order.
Would well recommend highly.
E. V.
Great fish and chips. Sauces quite pricey though.
Batter was especially good
R. S.
I had my first visit to kingfisher fish and chips today 27/10/22 as I'm working in the area, I had the lunchtime special fish and and chips, and I can quite honestly say , it's the best I've had in a long time ,fish was hot and very tasty batter was crispy and very flavorsume, and chips were hot nice and dark and very thick cut, all in all very very tasty, will definitely return...👍
J. T.
Nice chippy, went for lunch with little one before a party, great portion size for children's menu, loads of chips to spare so that made for a very happy daddy.
Y. D.
Had fish and chips today 4/6/22. The fish was lovely but the chips were barely warm and dry and full of bits of chips not whole chips. Very disappointed. This is the first time I’ve had any complaints. It is expensive now and at £32.65 it certainly isn’t cheap. May well try another Chippy in future. Such a shame was always our go to Chippy.
R. F.
Great food. Pleasant friendly staff. Reasonably priced.
J. G.
Dont know why so many bad reveiws just had cod and chips and 2 kids sausage and chips and tasted good definitely not award winning but nicer than most chippys and enjoyable was nice and hot plenty of chips lady on the pjone nice as definitely come back again thankyou
W. J.
Really nice fish, flaky sweet meaty cod. Lovely little pea fritter and classic soft chips. Very pleasing and a good decent fish and chips but not the best/greatest I've had and felt it was not quite fully hitting the spot. It is probably just my personal preference and overall a decent meal so no complaints.
B. E.
That'll teach me to judge a book by it's cover! Not the place you'd expect to taste some of the best fish and chips of your life.
M. Ś.
I had good experience with Kingsfisher everytime we had fish and chips from there. Fresh and tasty food and great service.
D.
Really tasty fish and chips. I went for large, regular chips (which seemed to cause some confusion) and a large haddock. Fish was cooked very well, chips were lovely and served in a large box which worked well both as a means of transporting said fish and chips as well as absorbing a lot of the moisture that inevitably comes from fish and chips doused in vinegar (which I asked for).
Sauces seemed overpriced so I avoided them, and apparently there used to be a much larger selection of fish other than the big 4. Would have liked to have seen rarer fish being served still but oh well! Would definitely recommend. Staff were being trained but all were polite and friendly. Maybe need to change the wording of regular large chips to just large chips no cheese?

Kingfisher is just around the corner from where we live, so it is a great spot to buy food to take home. The quality of the food is outstanding. We have always felt satisfied with the meal. I do think the prices are slightly steep, but hey, we still buy from here 😆
P. H.
Friendly service, good food and reasonable value. Especially good fresh tartare sauce.
A.
Spotty quality. When it's good, it's great! But they often under cook their chips.
A recent new cook who seems surly, lazy and slow (even the other staff seem frustrated) has had a big negative impact.
I applaud their efforts to keep everything sustainable.
S. P.
Visited Wednesday lunch time, two young girls behind serving, the smaller of them was most helpful. The other was indifferent and it showed. My husband ordered Hake and he was given Haddock for sure. We come from Brixham and deal in a lot of fish so we could tell the difference . The batter was very good but the chips were certainly nothing special. Also charging 60p for a small pot of Ketchup or Mayo was beyond belief!
L. B.
The fish and chips was beautiful but they forgot my order and everyone got there's after me got there's before me so it was very long wait then they forgot my peas I was frozen..
D. L.
Great food but not impressed with the battered oreo offering. Obesity and diabetes is enough of a social problem. It's time our takeaways did there bit to steer their communities towards healthier options especially the really popular eateries like this place. Go on earn your awards and add sustainable food cities network to your list of awards and achievements. #FoodPlymouth

Went tonight to check out the quality of the fish and chips having read the previous reviews,
must say that I was very very impressed with the quality (and quantity).
Please do not take any notice of the negative comments.
some people just dont a good thing when its put in front of them.
Thanks to the lovely friendly staff I had the pleasure to meet.
F. B.
Bit off the beaten tracks. But well worth a visit if in plymouth . Fish and chips cooked to order and were delicious. The whole family enjoyed them. There is a nice play park by the car park so good for families with children.
M. M.
Generally I’ve good experience with this shop which obvious goes out of its way to be better than the average (though I’m not sure offering a slice of lemon with battered cod is that sensible!). Portions are of a decent size and are generally well cooked. One of the few F&C shops open on Sundays.
L. B.
Nice place. Clean, friendly staff, food is cooked to order, good menu and they've won plenty of awards. Tastes good, although I wouldn't say it was anything special in my humble opinion
J. K.
Excellent food and value for money. Go here a lot and was very happy with the food. Service good only one staff member a little rude but other staff made up for it. Wouldn't put me off returning as it was definitely to the norm
M. W.
Decent Haddock and chips. Haddock was great. Chips could be better. But yeah not bad, good staff and clean. Tried chips again and now up to 4 stars. Well done for improvement
C. P.
This shop has just been awarded the second in the UK for fabulous fish and chips.....and Its no wonder....the quality is excellent ...try it for yourself. I regularly go here and the staff are always very friendly and efficient. Make up your own mind rather than read the negative reviews...you wont be disappointed.....An offer is an offer...I personally wouldnt be quibbling over buying a pot of curry sauce if I wanted it that much.....
Cant wait for my next visit...and I drive 14 miles from home!
L. C.
Good fish and chip shop, generous sizes and all cooked fresh on the spot. Good variety of fried food, great flavoured curry sauce and the onion rings at pretty epic.
S. B.
The fish is superb. They are let down by the chips, which often taste like they've been refried several times and are of poor quality, and the wait times. 20 minutes for two small portions of chips!
K. P.
Judging by the awards on display, this is officially the best fish and chip shop in these isles. We have used Kingfisher several times and the quality is consistent. You can avoid the queues if you ring ahead.
L. M.
Nothing to shout home about but very enjoyable. It's a pitty how poor staff are treated by management, and they've won the fish friar award despite of much better local options due to the politics, not quality! You have to fork out huge money to be eligible in the contest so most chippies don't bother! These guys used to be my go to every time, especially as they offer a coeliac friendly battery on Mondays, however since another local chippy opened on the ridgeway for cheaper prices, bigger portions and better quality (more crunchy, better texture) I very rarely use kingfisher these days.
M. H.
Much improved from when I last tried it several years ago.
I. P.
Great service and quality in a pandemic. Order taken by friendly staff with a hand held buzzer when food was ready. When I returned buzzer it was cleaned straight away. Can't fault.
L. P.
Traveled all the way from sunny Wales to try uks number 1 fish and chips. Glad to say we weren't disappointed great food and service I'm in the fish and chip shop trade myself and have to Commend Craig and Nikki on the Super work they have done to represent great fish and chips
Thank you for great food and a great job done xxx
J. S.
Number one UK chippy 2017, well worthy of the title. Moist cod in crispy batter. Also gluten free on Mondays for my husband. Delicious!
M. O.
The fish are a really good size, tasty and just as importantly responsibly sourced. Chips are good but the gravy is a bit thin.
B. B. T. G.
Excellent fish and chip shop.
The longest we've ever had to wait for a chippy, but certainly worth the wait.
@the.beverley.bunch
T. S.
The fish was nice but by time I got home the box was covered in grease. Shame the deal is fish, chips and peas, would love to have choice of peas or curry sauce
B. R.
Winner of so many awards and quite rightly too. Amazing fish and lots of options from on the menu. You can also hire the guys for parties/wedding receptions !
B. N.
OK do the fish and chips here really do deserve the award. Cooked very fresh in light batter, you can taste the freshness of the fish!
D. A.
"A FISH and chip shop that offers lobster on the menu is hoping to become the first Michelin-starred takeaway".- the portion sizes and pricing would seem appropriate to a Michelin star place.
D. M.
First class fish and chips. Always cooked fresh with a good extras menu. Well worth a visit but a tad expensive.
J. H.
Friendly service, lovely food. Can't fault this place. Even risked it and had battered orios. They are cracking.
S. K.
I always have found food excellent so don't understand some comments below. Queues can be large at tea time but this is more an indication how good locals find it.
R. P.
Gorgeous food and nice variety on the menu. Annoying to have to wait 30 mins when I had phoned up and ordered in advance.
J.
Very welcome reception, food ordered and prepared very quickly. Excellent service. Gluten free available on Mondays.
S. M.
My favourite fish and chips .always fresh and g
Hot
W. S.
Good value and great food,
Staff very helpful and polite
I would highly recommend
S. P.
Great fish and chips.. Never been disappointed.. Generous portion size too
M. S.
Good fish and chips, cooked fresh, pick up easy after using the pre order/pay app
C. H.
Award winning food served by staff who are happy and know how to make great fish and chips! The pea fritters are good too
D. B.
Fairly nice fish and chips, curry sauce is really good. Sometimes the service can be slow though.
T. S.
One of the best in the area. I go regularly and have never been disappointed. Can be very busy so be prepared to wait.
k. p.
It is not too bad but not the best, pricing is a little high, but the chips are tasty n' fresh, and good coffee to surprisingly lol
M. H.
Arguably the finest fish n chips I've had in a long time. Great quality and good prices.
L. M.
Clean and very tasty definitely recommend the curry sauce
J. D.
Fish is nice, but the chips are a bit rough. Always like the small hard bits on the edge of the potato's.
J. M.
Not as good as I've heard. Long wait, order given to me incorrectly, expensive and the food was no more than okay.
S. W.
Food good. Prices ok. Pathetic attempt at an extra few pennies charging 50p for card use.. get rid of it, I'm not the first to ask.
A. F.
Food is good. Just check your order is right before you leave. Yet agian mine was wrong
C. T.
Top quality fish and chips and more ethically sourced. Previous winner of national best fish and chip shop.
L. S.
Fantastic well priced use them often now i've moved locally. Good customers related always busy. Not a shop to be knocked
S. B.
Best fish and chips I've had in along time spot on
D. G.
Work around Plympton been a couple of times now bang on definitely recommended great quality food an top service
M. k.
One of the nicest fish and chips shops in Plymouth. Certainly outside of the centre. Well priced and great quality.
N. C.
Best F&C in town!!
M. C.
Very good though one piece of cod was much smaller than the other, both bought as regular.
U. F.
Love this place, gluten free on Mondays, crispy bits, suits small and large appetites.
T. 2. D. S. L.
Food is always nice and a good price. The service is always a bit robotic but that doesn’t affect the food
P. P.
Excellent fish and chips you can see why they won so many awards
D. K.
Chips were all bits . Again and not very hot
Portions are getting smaller on the deal for 2 for a tenner . More signs in shop again advertising for staff
G. S.
Food was great, freshly cooked £14 for 2 cod and chips was expensive though and found out how much once ordered, the pricing boards could be easier to work out..
H. L.
Good customer service and very tasty scampi, however, fish is average and overpriced
L. T.
love these fish and chips best ever! quick service too
N. B.
Who doesn't like fish and chips eh!! Fantastic. 👍
T. T.
Would have been 5 stars if the 2 young ladies behind the counter had been more attentive to the customers than their conversation
J. G.
Fish nice
Chips needed to be drained a bit more.
