Reviews of Mount Batten Bar

A lovely selection of good food, quickly served by very friendly and helpful staff.
A beautiful setting right beside the water and for people like me that can't walk far, great for a stroll. Ooh, and you can take your dog.

Me and my partner visit every couple of months and usually just get a couple of drinks and some cheesy chips after a nice walk! Today we ordered ‘proper meals’ and we were both very impressed with the quality, portion sizes and service! Highly recommend the homemade steak and ale pie!
R. M.
My husband & I had this turkey dinner well worth £12.50 each good sizes portion.

13/7 I had a delicious belly pork, mashed potato, peas and onion gravy meal. Sorry no pictures, I completely forgot!☺️ It did look lovely though, the staff were all very efficient, helpful and courteous too. Well done to everyone and thank you very much 😊

Lovely meal, nice atmosphere. Only let down was they refused to give my daughter a glass of water due to her being under 18. I then went to get one for her, it took asking 3 people at the bar and about 10 minutes to actually receive one.

Brilliant location. Very polite and helpful staff. However no notice or obvious sign on where to order food. Stood in line for 10 minutes to be redirected to another queue.
Also the food is very expensive, don't get me wrong some of the portions were big and very good quality for "Pub Grub" . However I will never pay £9.00 for a jacket potato. So maybe more sensible pricing. Overall good experience and definitely worth a visit.

Stopped off for a drink and cheesy chips with a friend. Busy due to the time of day with food orders however looked like everything was running smoothly. I will definitely stop there again and maybe next time if I have a bigger appetite I will purchase a lunch. The only negative is the place could do with brightening up quite dark inside and the outside area looked quite tired and rather dull.

My husband daughter and I went to lunch today ,I can only say I was so disappointed in my meal ,I had the sea food plater and it was not what I suspected ,on the menu it dose not state that it is raw fish which I can not eat ,and it said crab which I do love well there was nothing like crab on my plate .I left the whole meal.what maid me made I had to waitress behind me whispered she has not eaten it .I have worked in hospitality and was alway told to ask if there was anything wrong with your meal.the plat was just taken away ,nothing said.
Please put on your menu that your plater is raw fish as this was not good. Also it would of been nice if the waitresses had ask me if there was anything wrong with the meal .

The staff were nice. The food was presented nicely but had no real flavor. I had the Yorkshire pudding with steak and ale. The meat was very tough and almost inedible. The vegetables were steamed but had no seasoning at all. Nothing was seasoned. Overall the food was disappointing.

Nice place to visit. The views in the garden are across the water and on a warm day can't be beaten. The bar is not overly expensive
S. P.
Food choices for lunch were very varied. Excellent service by very efficient and polite staff. A true luncheon experience

A nice area to visit. The prices of the drinks is actually reasonable considering the area. Nice views across the water.

I was waiting for my ferry to go back to Plymouth after long cliff walk and I could not resist to come here and have a beer . First beer in months ! . I was so glad and happy that they have garden , a big one , so there was no problems to sit down and enjoy beer of freedom . They do follow covid safety regulations so no worries . Ah ! It was beautiful moment ! My 🍺🍺🍺🍺 .

Great location and nice spot for a walk. We had the set fee Sunday Carvery . It's good value for money , the meat was good and a very large selection of sides and veggies. Like most places in uk alot of veggies especially Greens are boiled and people who are used to roasted veggies may find them a bit wet and soggy- this is just how they do it.
Good selection of beers and the Red wine was easy drinking.
The interior in the bar is a bit dated and reminds me a bit of old social clubs with the decor, but again this is the UK .
Recommend stopping in here especially in summer then walking down to the ocean.
M. S.
Delicious! We had two rib eye steaks chips peas mushrooms onion rings pepper sauce and steak all cooked to perfection! Very pleasantly surprised. Staff are great friendly speedy service 10/10 would recommend!

Lovely dining area, good service and friendly staff

Visited many times over the years, the most recent being Tuesday 5th April.
We were told the closing time of the kitchen and ordered promptly, the food arrived in good time and was, as always, good. Everyone was happy.
However, at 21.15 a member of staff advised us that they were closing at 21.30 and could we please drink up.
No explanation or apology was offered. This cut our evening short.
Had there been a notice displayed at the entrance, or we been advised when ordering our first drink then we would have been prepared. As it was, our celebration was disrupted.
I was surprised and disappointed and would advise others to check to ensure that they too don't get caught out.

Good location. It would seem that staff are not allowed to be friendly . Food OK.. Now over priced. A bit limited for vegetarian. All needs refurbishment looking tied both inside and out.. Needs a good clean
E. M.
Pleasant atmosphere. Good food. Fantastic sea views

Big thanks to the amazing young lady behind the bar. Ordered 2 bitter shandys. My 2 year old in the repeat stage and when asked what she would like replied shandy. The lovely lady made her a special shandy (cola and lemonade) she couldn't have been more happy.
M. C.
Carvery was out of this world. Plenty of choice. Best Carvery in plymouth
S. B.
I can't comment on the food as sadly I chose to go on a day the kitchen staff weren't working. The bar staff were very friendly and efficient though and the location is quite lovely. It's very spacious inside with lots of seating but the decor is very.... um....traditional (tired 80s Axminster carpets and dark wood panelling). The outside areas were nice and I expect in the summer it's a stunning place to relax with a meal and drink. I will definitely visit again when Covid has truly burgered off and normal service had resumed.

First time visit, meeting up with work colleagues for drinks. If nearby again, would happily pop in for a drink & maybe a bite to eat.

Very good restaurant, plenty of space, large menu, well staffed who are very attentive. There were 5 of us, all the food arrived together nice and hot. The ribeye steak I had was perfect and Kathy really enjoyed her liver bacon and mash. The rhubarb crumble was sublime! And what a position! Views all round in this beauty spot. Lots of outside tables to take advantage of this.
M. W.
It's got great food at reasonable prices. Good for an afternoon lunch, the only criticism I have is the service itself. The staff aren't always as helpful/friendly as what they sometimes are. Also the service itself is inconsistent, sometimes you'll get your food in 5 minutes (Brilliant) but my partner waited over an hour for their food. When we asked where it was turns out they "Forgot" to make it. We went elsewhere for their food.
L. R.
Food was actually quite nice, however when I walked in and asked for a menu I was spoken too really rude by the manager who said to me I wasn't allowed to look at one as it was 4.30 not 5 when they actually started to serve food. I replied with, that's the whole point of us coming here to look at the menu to decide over a drink what we would like to eat so we can order at 5. Her argument was so she didn't get a mad rush at the bar lol She was really rude, as I returned to my seat my family said that herself and her co-worker were laughing then began to look over.

Lovely meal,cider wonderful drink,staff friendly

The mountbatten is a great family pub with a large indoor lounge and lots of benches outside to sit in the sun as well as a grass area to sit on or for the kids to run around. The menu is impressive with a great range of pub meals all served in a timely manner and there is a well stocked bar. We've been going here for years and would highly recommend it.
M. C.
Good food, reasonable prices, friendly staff.
j. s.
Highly recommended. The staff are always helpful with nothing too much trouble. For example today we switched tables to get out of the wind after ordering. Yes we told one of the staff who was passing. When our order arrived which was on time we were asked were we on such a table, YES I replied. We are just checking we have it right. The bottom line is they all work together with a smile, PRICELESS. The food is reasonably priced and the quality is good. It's away from the maddening crowd, next to the sea with pleasurable walks to boot.
P. G.
Choose the correct items from the menu and you will have a fantastic lunch
M. L.
Nice enough pub but the ordering system is a mess. They really need an app or barcode on the table so you can place an order. You can literally wait an hour just for them to come to your table and getting your food is another hour. Food isn't bad although not cheap but not insanely expensive either.
A. A.
Excellent food, staff and well spaced tables. The profiterols nearly beat me but I battled on, amazing desert!!! Highly recommend.

Booked 6 people for Sunday carvery , excellent value, lovely food and friendly staff.

A wonderful family pub. A beautiful location with wonderful walks around the coast and wonderful views of Plymouth sound. The food is excellent and they have a nice little area inside for families with children. A very popular place.
T. M.
Travelled around the SW coast over the last few weeks, I had to go to The Mount Batten Bar Pub to get a really good meal, and value for money.
The best in the South West, 10 out of 10, customer service and value for money.
J. J.
Decent food a bit strange how they segregate the kids
L. T.
Really lovely setting and bar but disappointed that they closed at 9 the night we went. We dont get out often for a night out so had to find somewhere else to go.
M. C.
Great parking, great views, great food, lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Pretty standard simple pub. Good views, nice grassy area next to it for kids dogs etc. Right near Mountbatten ferry too! Good for watching the boats. Good service.

Absolutely beautiful and felt like I was on holiday, although I had the steak ciabatta and nearly broke a tooth as it was so hard. Everyone else's food was good.

R. S.
Very nice food. Always a rush when they first open the doors for the day. Seating inside and out and food brought to your table. Drinks are always cold unless you want a hot one.
P. E.
I've given the Mount batten five stars even though it is not perfect. The reason is that we have been coming here for many years and the service is always good; the food varies between very acceptable and excellent pub grub at reasonable prices. The beer is decent. The views from the outside tables are terrific, with Plymouth as the backdrop to boating and shipping activity. Easy to get to from the Barbican via the regular, excellent water taxi (great fun for kids who are new to boats). The Mountbatten is child-friendly and accepts well behaved dogs. If you want a Sunday roast be prepared to book and to queue (three sittings). The location is right on the coastal path and pier, so plenty of interest. Turnchapel Village - one of Plymouth's hidden gems - is a 15 minute walk away past the marina,if you want to walk off some of that lovely grub.

Lovely place to eat. Fresh food. Large portions. Good service.

Well controlled & laid out Covid 19 practices. We've been again for a drink today. Busy tonight, feels like it's getting back to normal. Lots of people eating.
