Reviews of The Eastern Eye
S. D.
Great service by Russel and his female colleague.
Food is really lovely. My dhansak B had great depth of flavour, full of whole spices and citrus.
A delicious Muttar Paneer made special aswell.
Whilst it is not your traditional ENGLISH Indian style, it certainly is home cooked, fresh, made to order with love and care. Have an open mind. You will not be disappointed.
I had chicken tikka dhansak, muttar paneer, special rice, and a garlic naan with one small coke. This cost £39 which is very very expensive and was the only let down. I actually think it was a bill mistake that I didn’t realise until I left.
I will return and I recommend giving it a go.
Speaking with the chef and him explaining the menu and how it’s cooked fresh with love and attention made my visit extra special.

Only our first visit for a takeaway but we will be back for sure! Service was super friendly and food was AMAZING! Each item we ordered was delicious and they were lovely large portions also. Definitely worth a try, this place won't disappoint.
V. V.
The food was very, very good. The venue is compact and it was a bit cold being sat by the main entrance door. The service wasn't brilliant, perhaps down to staffing levels, and the prices are an absolute joke.
This place is overpriced despite the quality of the food. I felt robbed when presented with the bill. To top it off, they had me running across the road to get cash out because the card machine wasn't working, this after waiting 15 minutes to get the bill.
N. G.
Kalam and his family are amazing hosts. The food is 5* quality, all cooked fresh, bursting with flavours. The decor is superb. This restaurant is a real Jewel to the city of Plymouth and is a must to visit.

Delicious Food!
The receptionist at our hotel recommended the Eastern Eye.
The food was absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious and the staff were wonderful. We would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Thank you Eastern Eye! xx You have an excellent chef!
C. M.
Food was utterly amazing.
Pretty average price for the type of restaurant.
Only thing we didn't enjoy was being told there was a charge for taking food out. I get you're probably paying for the packing, but it's strange to have to pay to take food you've already bought home. Especially because the portions are very generous.

Found this Restaurant open on Christmas Day. No other choice with everywhere closed.
The food was not the best, very overrated and in my mind very expensive.
Service was below what should be expected of such an expensive place to eat.
The main Member of the team took all the orders from each table. He was probably the owner.
There seamed to be an atmosphere of mistrust by the owner of his team, snapping at them from time to time.
The owner states in one of the wright ups l have read that his heros are Gordon Ramsey and Ainsley Harriott.
Perhaps he thinks that is the way to control his team.
I can assure him that l have knowing Gordon for Many years and can assure him that Gordon despite his television character, he would not and does not treat his staff as depicted in his television appearances.
The two younger members of the team one young Girl and a Young Man looked very mutch on edge all the time, but they really were trying to do their best.
Overall not a very satisfactory satisfieing experience for me and my wife who accompanied me.
Prices do not reflect the quality of the food or the overall service.
The Drinks were extremely expensive to.
The Starters averaged around £8.50 and the main Dish around £18.
Then there were the additions.
We didn't bother with a sweet ???
I am a Food Critic, prity much retired now. Although l am currently writing a book on Restaurants, Hotels and the service industry in General.
The comments here are of my own personal view.
If you do visit you have to make your own observations.

Very dissapointed with the service here . Felt like we were a inconvenience in a empty restaurant ! Maybe the waiter wanted to watch the football . Waiter had his armed folded the whole time . Wouldn't let us order a starter first whille we looked at menu . The " rules" are order everything at the same time .We were actually the only customers . Food was nice but service awfull . Also had to lisen to cutlery being polished and slammed in box and conversations between staff Apparently they had a f*****g busy night last night .maybe this language shouldn't be heard by customers spending over £50 on a meal . Wont return . Shame as this used to be a fantastic restaurant with excellent service.
G. N.
The food is good here. The staff were very accommodating and I would have given 5 stars if the prices were a little more reasonable.

This restaurant was fantastic, staff were lovely, food was amazing and we had a great time. Left feeling very full, very happy and would defo recommend. A little pricey but worth the money. The staff were very attentive and fun, if you are looking for a Indian this is defo the place to go 🥰

10/10 if I could, I would go even higher. I can't fault this restaurant. Incredible food, wonderful service. You will not be disappointed if you go here. I will be dreaming of the curry and craving it for life now. I cannot wait to go back!
J. D.
This is my second time coming here and definitely not my last. Service staff are always welcoming and easy to talk to, very helpful if you don't understand the menu or explaining what certain dishes are. The menu is entirely customisable which is great for people with dietary restrictions. I had their house special but vegetarian with paneer instead of meat. Delicious 👍
A. M.
Was ok tables are a bit tight and squeeze. I had the lamb tikka starter was a bit tough and chewy. Had the lamb curry for.main and it was tough and chewy.
R. S. R. H.
Taste is really really good
The aromatic feels first hits your nose and then comes the taste
The lamb Biryani with chick peas and vegetable kurma is on next level
Indian authentic taste is really really awesome
Must visit place when you are craving for indian food
Service was really good and homely
M. W.
This restaurant is FABULOUS.
Visited for the first time tonight and we were SO impressed. The food was freshly cooked....this was obvious in the taste and the flavours were amazing. I had chicken tikka massala and I have never tasted it like this and the sauce was not runny...perfect for dipping naan bread! The service was excellent from the head chef to the waitresses, who were all lovely. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant was very comfortable and clean. I think we've definitely found our new regular Indian Restaurant. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND
J. C.
The food is amazing! The staff are amazing. I will come here every time I visit Plymouth.
D. W.
This is the best Indian restaurant I have found in Plymouth to date after three years of very poor curries elsewhere. Having moved here from the Midlands, I prefer everything about living here except the abysmal Indian food so please believe me when I say this place is as good as and sometimes better than the places back home. Every curry is a delight, the starters are second to none, it's brilliant. If anyone tells you there is a better curry to be had In Plymouth, they don't know what they are talking about.
S. H.
im from weymouth i went here two nights in a row the staff are amazing and so is the food im going back there on the 3rd of dec for more delicious food and cobras
J. o.
Banging curry, really kitsch but cool decor and charming staff.
We’d be back if we lived nearby!
S. M.
The best Indian I have ever had. So tasty & the most polite staff I have ever met. I Will return again and again!
C. A. G.
Always a pleasure celebrating my birthday here. Lovely to catch up with Kalam and meet the kids tonight. Impeccable service as always and of course the best food in Plymouth. See you soon.... With baby!! Thanks for the lime pickle
s. k.
Visiting from Liverpool and enjoyed a fantastic meal here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant dealt with the dietary requirements of my vegan and vegetarian friends very well and cooked everything fresh. Would definitely recommend.
A. A. A.
If you wanna taste the best Indian Food, do visit it I really love the taste...
J. E.
Exquisite restaurant, gorgeous food and fantastic customer service and a lovely experience
R. M.
This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the city.
C. H.
By far the best curry in the south west, possibly further but I've not been that far. I would recommend this place to everyone. Superb service, beautiful restaurant with gracious staff.
N. C.
Great place had a really good time there and the food was amazing and the setting and the staff.
l. s.
Stunning tasty food
One of the best in plymouth
Not the cheapest but pay for what you get
J. C.
Food was hot and tasted amazing. Staff were friendly.
a. g.
2 adults who really enjoy curry decided to visit and we were not disappointed with the food, good choice off the menu and very curtious staff.
The portion size was very large and I did ask if you did 1/2 portions but you didn't, please do as I hate food wastage.
What let you down was the price of a bottle of sparking water at over £5.00 which was absolutely ridiculous and then the final straw was the card machine not working so had to go over the road for cash.
For a night out with friends watch the prices as it can be a shock when you get the final bill.
The most EXPENSIVE meal in Plymouth and no we do not eat in fast take away restaurants.
C. j.
absolute gent, let me use the toilets when I was hammered out of my mind last night after co op said no :) generous and kind owner, rare to find a business so caring these days 🤷♀️
M. H.
We ordered takeaway and it exceeded our expectations - it was phenomenal! The Mirpurie Patice and the Arborai and cheese naan were highlights, but it was all so delicious! Hands down the best takeaway in Plymouth (and great value for money - the portions were huge!) We will definitely be eating there again! Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience - we couldn't recommend it enough.
L. C.
Had a lovely takeaway this evening. The manager was very attentive when I came to pick the order up, the food was delicious, generous portions, and we had a great deal for celebrating the restaurant's 32 years in Plymouth. That's said, would always happily pay full price, we've always enjoyed our meals here. We cannot wait to come back and eat in the restaurant!
D. S.
We have eaten here two nights on the trot with four different dishes which were delicious and the best Indian food we've had in a long time and we are from the curry 🥘 capital.... Bradford. If you are in Plymouth on holiday give this place a go, you won't leave hungry or disappointed. Top food 👌
N. C.
Delicious food, beautifully decorated and friendly staff. 10/10
S. C.
Been here a few times now both takeaway and sit in, and really nice as always. Kalams delight is a must! Quality food and a quality service. A little bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for here! Defo worth a visit. Recommend to all family and friends.
k. b.
Really nice food good prices friendly staff been going for years menu is updated regularly will always go back.
M. M.
Fabulous place, atmosphere. Lots of colour and sparkly. Even the loo seats! Great owner, mega friendly. Amazing food. Will be back soon!

Absolutely amazing place, such gorgeous tasty food best Currys by far and wonderful staff. SO welcoming. Highly recommend this place and it's Top quality food
s. w.
Food was top notch.
Service charge was most definitely not!!!
M. A.
Absolutely delicious food. Everything was amazing, Kalam Bhaisab is a star chef! Waiters were very friendly as well, had a really good time. 100% recommend you go and try this restaurant!!!
M. A. C.
I was in Plymouth for a few nights and was recommended this place by a cousin. I was staying at a nearby hotel so it was in walking distance. The food is absolutely brilliant. It has to be the best curry I have had, it came out quick and was perfect. I had the Biriyani and it was perfect and came with fresh tomatoes and veg. My wife had the Korma and it was as a Korma should be, rich in coconut and full of flavour. The meat was well cooked and tender.
It was so good we went back on Saturday night, although I was concerned it might mot be as good as the night before. I was wrong, it was the same high standard and they were busy. Fantastic place for a curry.
S. B.
Had a takeaway last night. It was absolutely gorgeous, had a job to stop eating cos it was so tasty. We also had 25% discount, some onion bhajis and poppadoms for free which was a nice surprise. Highly recommend this Indian, always fab food and lovely people.
f. a.
What an absolute gem of a place! Excellent service, food and fantastic value. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Thank you everyone for a fantastic evening.
R. W.
One of my favourite places to dine out in. Very friendly and polite. Dishes are very nice and if your ask for something a little hotter your sure to get it. In fact the hottest curry I've ever had when I once asked for a very hot one and that did not disappoint. Always a pleasure and delight and I've been here a few times now and plan to eat there again very soon.
D. J.
Recommended this place by a friend. Didn’t disappoint, superb food, full of flavour - and excellent service.
Will definitely be back.
A. R.
So, I was staying in Plymouth for work and saw The Eastern Eye. I ordered a lamb vindaloo and mushroom rice. The vindaloo was the best curry I have ever had. It was hot as expected but packed full of flavour....I will definitely visit this place again next time I'm working in Plymouth.
E. O.
My experience at The Eastern Eye was very delightful. The staff were polite and professional, and the food was delicious! Definitely the best Indian cuisine I have ever been too. I 100% recommend going to eat here :)
N. F.
Hands down the best takeaway curry (no.100) we’ve ever had. All of the food is so flavourful and the menu eclectic - we will definitely be going back for more! P.S. They give you a 25% discount if you collect.
T. C.
We have just had the most delicious takeaway! Been coming to the Eastern Eye for 30 years and very happy to celebrate their 32 year anniversary. The best Indian restaurant by far!
P. G.
*5 STARS* Upon entering I was warmly greeted by the staff who took me and my friend to our table, the hospitality was carried throughout the evening. The restaurant is beautifully decorated inside with a lot of traditional Indian artwork. The atmosphere was perfect to have conversation with light background music. Although there were quite a few customers we were served promptly and our food arrived quickly. We had the Bihari lamb on request to make it mild which was delicious and tender.
The owner is very caring of every customer and manages his staff well to make the restaurant function like a slick well oiled machine.
We had a great time and undoubtedly will return!
p. e.
Never had a poor meal in Eastern Eye. Menu a little different from traditional Indian but good.
S. J.
By far the best Indian in Plymouth, an excellent collection of flavours, good service. Worth the money, even in lockdown. Good value for money-there is plenty to eat. If you want an Indian meal that isnt greasy and that sits well in your stomach afterwards, this is the place for you - a restaurant worthy meal!
G. S.
I liked this place a lot. Friendly staff who respect their food and customers. The food is full flavoured and there are some unusual dishes on the menu. Lamb dansak is excellent, though my chapatis were a bit under cooked. It is not a cheap curry - but worth the extra pennies.
M. H.
This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the city. The staff are warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The food is very good and as a non meat eater I still have a great choice of delicious food. We always have come away feeling we've had a great meal.
T. E.
Myself and 2 friends came here for a 50th Birthday meal and to say it was a fantastic experience would be an understatement. The food was out of this world delicious . The service was perfect. Kalam and his staff were of smart appearance, very welcoming and friendly, they all took care of us and our requirements to the highest level. Would recommend this place 100%. Food is just pure perfection.
J.
Absolutely top notch place. The decor and atmosphere are great in the Eastern Eye and the food is even better. This restaurant has loads of authentic dishes that you won't find anywhere else. They have been in the owner Kalam's family for generations. He personally came over to greet my family and help make suggestions for dishes. I particularly like the chicken zul zula, which is one of the many original dishes that you can only get there.
After dinner we were treated to shots of a bailies like drink which were the perfect way to end the meal.
The prices are higher than most Indian places, but this certainly isn't most Indian places, this is the best in the entire country.
w.
Amazing Indian. Customer service is great. Really friendly and attentive to ensuring your meal is enjoyable.
Food is not your standard English Indian. Menu was full of dishes I haven't heard of before and I was spoilt for what to try. Amazing flavours and even the mild dishes had a tiny amount of heat to it which made it more enjoyable without it being too overpowering.
I'm certainly returning here in the future.
J.
Honestly you couldn't hope to find a better Indian restaurant in Plymouth. It's pricey but you get what you pay for. The meat is actually a good quality here and the curries are full of flavour!
M. H.
Popped in to order a takeaway on the way home from a night out. Customer service was excellent with a complimentary coffee served while we waited. Pleasantly surprised with a further complimentary dish thrown in to our order. Food tasted lovely as well!! Would definitely recommend going here if just to experience great customer service.. will definitely be going there again 👍
M. M.
Enormous menu with many unique dishes. Well cooked and presented. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable and contemporary 'marmite' decor. (love it or hate it but it's an improvement on the standard flock wallpaper!) I am happy to recommend giving it a try, enjoy!
I.
They're open till midnight, which is later than most Plymouth restaurants. This suited my hours so I dined there on 2 consecutive evenings. On the first evening the food was superb. On the second it was barely average. Whatever you do, steer clear of the self-proclaimed "finest dish on the menu"!
N. A.
I can tell it's the best Indian restaurant in town. Although their are a number of reviews telling about the cost I would tell it's worth the money. Not to forget they have plenty of dishes to choose from and the staff members are more than happy to help you choose the dish if you were to tell them the kind of dish you are looking for.
I would also tell you would have never had such good Indian food in UK.
I would suggest you to visit this restaurant if you are thinking of Indian food whether you were to live in Plymouth or visiting Plymouth.
N. J.
Best Indian food in the area by far, we travel 20mins to get here and we'll worth the drive.
Been coming here since my dad used to take me as kid, always blown away by the amazing flavours. All dishes are lovely but I highly recommend kalam karishma, delicious 😋
T. H.
Had a good meal here with friends. Plenty of space in the seating area with friendly service. The menu had a good selection of dishes and the generous portions were delicious. It is in a good location on the edge of the Barbican
j. a.
Having dined at quite a few curry restaurants this must be the best curry house in Plymouth. Visited tonight and yet again food was freshly prepared and cooked; homemade sauces and recipes; plenty of choice. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates great tasting curry and quality. You really do get what you pay for and worth every penny... Amazing. Lovely attentive staff. What a wonderful end to our day.
A. “. W.
Ate there last night. The menu is very extensive and a little intimidating, so we asked the extremely helpful server for recommendations based on our usual choices. His suggestions were spot on and the food was absolutely delicious! Everything seemed really fresh. Although the restaurant was very busy, there were no delays in service, which was excellent throughout.
We were initially unsure about the Eastern Eye as the prices are higher than other similar restaurants nearby, but in the end we were happy to pay the extra money for the great service and fresh, tasty food. Very happy and would certainly go again.
M. Ś.
The best Indian restaurant and takeaway in Plymouth. The food is amazing and the staff is lovely. Always a pleasure to meet the owner and have a chat. We can't wait to be back for a dinner soon.
l. h.
By far the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to! I used to work in Plymouth so went ever week but now it is a rare treat. I have never been disappointed! Zul zula is the best dish I have ever had!
C. M.
Fabulous meal, cooked to perfection. Chef was very attentive and explained the recipes. Would highly recommend
H. K.
Excellent food and a nice atmosphere.
C. N.
Expect your tastebuds to zing ! Large tasty well presented dishes, so well worth the extra few minutes of waiting for. Staff always on the go and polite. Saturday night was busy, a little on the expensive side but will go again.
T. K.
If you want curry type food. Look no further.... this is it. Manager and staff friendly and always has great food. Been there about 20 times within a 4 month period.
D. M.
We came to this restaurant for the first time with our daughter and boyfriend who are regulars. Wow! Superb food ,service and atmosphere. Not the cheapest but worth every penny and generous tip for the friendly, attentive and professional service alone. Would highly recommend and think this has now become one of our favourite restaurants in plymouth. Thank you eastern eye staff.
D. C.
Probably my favourite Indian restaurant in Plymouth. Staff are always friendly an food is always of a consistently high standard. Only criticism is there is too much choice on the menu. Takes me such a long time to choose what I want!
D. G. F.
It is one of my go to places for curry in town. The service is excellent I've been there for business and leisure and in both occasions the staff was very dedicated charming and professional. Food is to a very high standard portions are well sized , food is very tasty. I definitely recommend this place for a true curry taste
J. W.
We've eaten here many times over the years, and were really pleased to see that they had re-opened for takeaway yesterday after being closed during lockdown. The food was absolutely fantastic and the portions were huge. We look forward to returning to the restaurant again when it is allowed to re-open!
R. B.
Walked past this place for years and never went in - finally gave it a shot this evening and I’m very glad I did! Amazing, friendly service and fantastic food
N. G.
Fantastic meal, chef/owner created me my own Bhuna! Nothing was too much trouble, very friendly .
s. c.
Its much more than a chicken korma, this place is for the real curry lover. The food is tasty, plentiful, hot when served. They are professional and passionate about the food they serve. We've been regulars for over 6 years and every meal has been delicious. Go and enjoy
S. B.
We love this place. Callum and his team give the best service from start to finish. Such a happy friendly place and nothing is too much trouble. What makes this place so special is the food... it is incredible, always cooked to perfection.
We have made this place a frequent visit.
P. L.
Food very good. Vegetarian main course recommended. Felt a bit rushed between starters and main course. On expensive side. Menu given to diners is an abridged version with much less choice especially on starters but you can ask to see full menu. Staff very friendly. Will go again.
D. S.
A popular Indian restaurant that has been in business for 20 years. Very busy at weekends with polite and efficient service.
The food is the usual Indian style with a couple of signature dishes.
Take out service is available but I recommend you order early in the evening as the restaurant gets packed.
Reliable Indian restaurant
David
R. M.
The curry and service was absolutely fantastic ive never tasted a better chicken dansak in my life, however the size of the restaurant and the way the staff move around you while trying to enjoy a meal is on the extreme side of annoying.
I also tried to order a small bottle of Cider and I ended up with a big one, dont know why as it said on the menu that they had small bottles so i ended up paying for a big bottle which was very expensive but nice.
V. B.
Went there Friday night with some friends came up from Taunton read the reviews before and what fantastic food it was. the staff was outstanding nothing was any trouble.it was the best Indian we have ever had will be going back the next time we are in Plymouth well done eastern eye top marks
R. J.
Excellent food great taste and served with a smile by Russell. The Chef should be Given 10 Stars Fabulous stuff Many THANKS!
L. T.
Beautiful food and loads of it!! We took a 'doggy bag' home. Quite pricey but very good value for money
A. R.
Made an order last night 10 mins before closing time, they happily served me with what i wanted and more. The staff were superfriendly and the whole service was excellent. The food tasted delicious and very authentic too. The best indian food I'v had from Plymouth. Would definately come again.
S. H.
Friendly, accommodating staff. House wine was good and very cheap. Thought the food was ok, albeit a tad overpriced, and the chicken and paneer was flavoursome but a bit dry.
P. T.
As I sit here writing this review I am tasting one of the best Indian takeaway in Plymouth, first time I’ve ordered from here and will not be the last, plenty of it and well worth the extra ££ the best I’ve eaten in 7 yrs of moving down here.
H. L.
Best Indian food in Plymouth by miles. Great selection of vegetarian food. The staff are wonderful so friendly and professional literally go out of their way to help. I can't recommend highly enough. Thank you Eastern Eye.
C. P.
Amazing food!! Great service, friendly staff, a great experience I'll defo be going back!
R. B.
Had a meal here with 12 others Sat 20th January. Was asked by a friend for a recommendation as to where to eat an Indian meal on his ladies 50th birthday and having visited the Eastern Eye for the past 15years I had no hesitation in recomending the place. Though a little more expensive than other Indian restaurants in the town it makes up for this by offering a large selection of dishes and the tastiest of meals. As always the staff were very friendly and helpful and the service excellent. Thanks again Callum
R. L.
Not the cheapest take away but the food and customer service more than compensate. Had only eaten in here previously but ordered a takeaway tonight. Was told it would be 20 mins and appeared in 10! Complimentary poppadoms, onion salad, raita, tikka sauce and a Saag dish to go with what I'd paid for (balti and pilau rice, and peshwari naan). The staff appreciate your custom and are a credit to the business with impeccable manners and a cheery yet professional attitude.
J. L.
Have always had excellent service, we wouldn't go anywhere else as the food has never disappointed. All the staff are polite, friendly and make the experience a very positive one. Thank you.
P. C.
The food here is wonderful, always delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful. I personally find the menu a bit restricted but I understand that they have done that deliberately, presumably to focus on quality.
L. S.
Fantastic food and lovely atmosphere!..been eating at this restaurant for years and thoroughly enjoy every visit. Fantastic staff make it special..A delight.
J. R.
Always lovely food here. Depending on your table you can be a bit cramped in and it's definitely more expensive than a lot of other Indians. Worth it for a treat.
N. M.
Lovely interior, humble staff.
Food wise it is ok.
The taste is not very authentic Indian.
Waiter suggested us some spicy lamb & chicken dish , which was not up to the taste expected ...
However worth a visit .
Thanks
S. B.
Food took a long time to arrive, the smallest samosas l've ever seen, chicken in the biryani wasn't very tasty...Otherwise ok but a bit disappointing.
S. S.
I visited this place on 24th Nov . The staff really friendly and they customize the dish as per request. I ordered veg only , surprisingly the veg biryani was very tasty with so many fresh vegetables in it and paneer saag was equally tasty but was bit oily. I think it is worth the money. Thanks to Eastern eye.
j. b.
Fantastic restaurant, accommodated 11 of us after being let down by 1620, amazing staff, Callum went above and beyond to ensure the night was saved. Food was the best, cannot recommend highly enough.
M. V.
The Food was Delicious 😋 and The stuffs are really friendly and gentle. Highly recommended to my friends and family.
M. H.
A fantacic experience, lovely food the best service this place is the best in Plymouth without a doubt. I'd recommend it to anyone. They are also fantastic role models for other business owners.
W. S.
Some of the best indian food I have ever eaten!
The staff are phenomenal, even when given a really chalenging request, and measured against high standards.
w. l.
I had an amazing experience with The Easter Eye delicious food and a beautiful atmosphere.
All the staff were friendly and welcoming, and very polite at all times. Thank you for the attention. Sure recomend for all .
A. D.
The Eastern Eye is an awesome restaurant, not least because you won't even recognise 80% of the menu, but the food is excellent, tasty, very well cooked. The ambiance is very cosy and intimate and relaxing, and the staff are very friendly.
J. S.
I took my wife to the eastern eye to celebrate our 28th anniversary. The food was sublime, the service was excellent and restaurant's ambiance was spot on. Great night thankyou very much.
D. L.
Our favourite Indian in the country! Always good food. Every dish looks and tastes different. Food is always fresh and the staff are friendly.
C. S.
Fast on delivery's and good service in all. Food was really nice and had no issues what so ever. Will order again
R. R.
Not bad at all, lovely little place albeit very busy, food could be a bit better, typical Indian restaurant style cooking, lacking that little bit of finesse.
R.
Lovely food and staff, we had vegetarian options. Bit pushy for a tip though.
A. B.
Great service, delicious food and huge servings. The whole family enjoyed the meals.
L. P.
Old school attentive service and the best curry in the Plymouth area by far!
M. L.

Amazing waiting staff felt so welcome and the f9od was amazing
A. D.
Great food but a bit pricy. Staff are friendly and helpful. Just wish they would lower the price and id go more often
D. B. P.
It's an average Bengali restaurant. Nan could be a lot better. The curries are generic and formulaic. Prices are on the upper side of the norm, same for the beer.
S. B.
Best indian I've had for a very long time .. authentic..delicious.. lots of free stuff too .. extremely friendly staff .. I shall return
N. M. J.

Absolutely amazing food, service and atmosphere. Kalam is a true legend of Indian cuisine. A must for any visitor who wants a real Indian curry.
J. H.
Great venue and friendly helpful staff. Food was excellent although a little on the pricey side. Very popular so probably worth booking to avoid disappointment

Stayed over at St Mellion Hotel for a couple of nights.. Had the urge for a curry, so I saw the good reviews on Google so decided to try it out with my wife and son, we called and got confirmation that the food was Halal...
We had a mixed kebab starter which was fresh and tasty... The starter consisted of sheesh kebab, chicken tikka and lamb tikka. The lamb tikka was very tender and succulent...
For main meal we had a lamb biryani with a tharka dhaal and a king prawn jogonathpuri with a plain naan and boiled rice... the main meal was very tasty and the spice was on the money...
This place has been open for 30 years and the food is a testament for years of success... The ingredients are locally sourced... Special mention to the owner/manager Kalam bhai for the great service.. We were looked after from start to finish, we saw the personality, passion and pride in what he does, which is a successful formula... Would highly recommend and will definitely come back next time we come to Plymouth from the West Midlands.
J. S.
Fantastic food with great service!
(The staff have a wide knowledge of the pictures which cover the interior of the restaurant - so make sure you ask).
S. M.
Good hot tasty food, friendly interactive staff, good ambience, only down side for me was the T bone steaks need to be thicker if stating as a steak, this was more of a slice.....

First time visitor. Service was brilliant, staff were friendly, host made us feel welcome and the food was superb. Slightly expensive in terms of extras like naan bread but that's a minor. I'll definitely be back...

(Translated) The British obsession with Indian cuisine is reminiscent of the boom of sushi and rolls in Russia some time ago. Put 4 just for the sake of decency. The restaurant serves adapted Indian food for the unprepared. :) but even this is too much for a person who eats it for the first time. Of the 10 dishes that were ordered for the company, I could not eat anything. In fact, it’s not even clear what kind of meat you eat, everything just floats in curry or other spices. Very convenient for the cook...there is no taste of the food, only the taste of spices and curry. Cobra beer is disgusting. There were no complaints about the service, everything was quick and unobtrusive.
(Original)

(Translated) Don't be fooled by the kitschy interior, this is Indian cuisine of the highest order. The chef knows how to dose his flavors perfectly. Nothing too much salt, or thickening products, just the right ingredients. Definitely "worth the detour"!
(Original)
