What a great experience made even better by our server Gail. We were lucky to stumble upon this place on a boring Tuesday afternoon. Had the place to ourselves and thought maybe we were missing something! They have a DOG MENU and so many GLUTEN FREE options! The beverage menu was a particular treat so naturally, we had to try them all! 10/10 would recommend!

We enjoyed a few nice drinks before the food. Extremely tempted by the cocktail 2 for 1 deal. The food was glorious! Please see the photos. We loved our fish burger and mackeral salad. Also had the 3 for £20 tapas beforehand. Very delicious. Friendly service too. 10% added to the bill, so tipping taken care of too.

Travelled nearby and really surprised about this last minute found and I was really lucky to get a table. The food were super delicious and yummy. Really cool vibe as well got in house DJ. It really exceeded my expectation. Must try the chowder. Lovely cocktail as well.

Finally...a seafood restaurant where I'm not sick in the morning. Being from SF, great seafood is a life requirement...We stumbled upon this treasure after a day of shopping and hair treatment...as I wanted Wagamana...however this gem is located on the wharf/pier and if you don't walk down each walkway, you can miss it. Other than the unfriendly welcome (we didn't have reservations however still no excuse to give a cold shoulder by the hostess, hence the 4 stars on service, we were MORE than sure its because visually I didnt fit the part. Judging me because I was in track pants...) BUT a very kind server checked the books and said we could have an hour before larger parties arrived. HE was the only reason we stayed and they got my money....and he made it worth it. The soft shell crab burger and drinks were just enough to bring me back. My husband never had it before but I've made a seafood lover out of him with their help.

A quiet day but the service was excellent. Somewhere to visit again and recommend if you have never visited.

Well what a find this is tucked away on RWY. Making the most of beautiful fresh fish (although there are veggie/vegan options and some meat options too). I was delighted to find that almost every item on the menu was provided in a gluten free option too. The atmosphere is relaxed with a really cool vibe. All the staff were super friendly and paid us enough attention without being overbearing. This is the only independent eatery on RWY - another reason to go and support. And if good food, great staff and lovely environment isn't enough reason to visit, they have a menu just for the rums and the cocktail selection was fab too - my "prawn star martini" was delicious 😁 Highly recommend!!

Wow! What a fabulous place. My friend and I decided to treat ourselves to lunch out... We're so pleased we chose to come here. Amazing, polite, attentive service by Eleanor, the menu offered a great selection of food, cocktails and wine. Excellent value, the most amazingly delicious tasty food. Been to eat twice at Hook and Line and the food and drinks have been awesome! We are hosting our wedding rehearsal there and Steve went above and beyond to show us sample menus, offered new items we may want and sample it all. Very accommodating and wonderful service. We look forward to it and highly recommend if you’re in Plymouth/Royal William Yard. Also great to see local (non-chain) restaurants in Royal William, keep it up!

We’ve came here twice in August and also had a delivery. Every meal was excellent. Delicious scallops, superb fish and veggie tacos. Don’t miss the crystallised fennel. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Interesting location. Definitely go again.

We had a great meal at The Hook & Line yesterday. The scollops were delicious and the daily special of John Dory was done to perfection. Rounded off with an Old Cuban cocktail! The staff were great, with a special mention for Gail - nothing was too much trouble, and also Dan who was extremely knowledgeable about all things rum- the staff made the experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Our second visit in three weeks and what a meal! We shared four light bites - all delicious - and I followed that with a chowder consisting of shellfish, white fish various, and a terrific foaming wine and cream sauce. Please try it, it was tremedous. Thanks to the chefs and jolly front of house.

Firstly the restaurant is gorgeous and even when busy it wasn't hard to have a conversation at the table! Cocktails are amazing (lots of varieties of rum) and the food was delicious! Would recommend! It had a few veggie options but I'm not sure about vegan or other dietary requirements!

What a restaurant. We went to celebrate my partners birthday. There was 11 of us altogether, including her 3 grandchildren. The staff were so accommodating and helpful. Attentive but not overbearing. The food, cooked by a young man called Ryan , was exceptional. The whole experience was faultless. The waitress even brought out a " free" little cake for my partner and sang " Happy birthday ". They made little " changes " to accommodate the children and were totally helpful. We adults that paid the bills all left decent " tips" because we appreciated their service. Also they supply a vast array of rum amongst other drinks. Definitely recommended and next time we return... we're going by taxi so I/ we can sample a few rums. Highly recommended. 5 star.

We went to Hook & Line based on all the glowing reviews. Maybe we went to a different restaurant? Maybe we had an unlucky meal? But after chatting to a few of the locals we discovered that we weren't the only ones who thought the food was disappointing. I don't know what that says about us or the reviews. Maybe things have changed recently? But what I can only say is the food is mediocre at best. The environment looks great. And the staff were friendly and efficient; 5 out of 5 to them. But the food wasn't up to scratch: the scallops weren't fresh or cleaned properly, the portions were small, the Teriyaki sauce was watery Soy Sauce....it was just very poorly prepared for the money. In essence, it felt like another trendy restaurant that looked the part and charged the price but didn't deliver on the quality. Shame.

Nice place for some seafood lunch. The portions were fine and the prices acceptable. The fish and chips are good. I ordered a Diet Coke with my food which tasted unpleasant but the rest of the order was good. It would be nice if the tables were cleared a bit quicker after guests depart, some tables were raided by the seagulls which makes quite a mess.

The food ( 6 pm ish) was absolutely exceptional. We had gluten free bread from a local artisan bakery Rise and my brie and chutney sandwich was immense and probably the best sandwich I've ever had. Don't go unless you're properly hungry and want a leisurely feast. Staff are lovely and the atmosphere was cosy, buzzy and very laid back. A dog at the next table was given a warm welcome as were a family with young children. A meal for 2 was £30 so don't expect cheap, but great value and certainly cheerful. We left happy and rather bursting. I should have taken the bread to go and had it for breakfast with a poached egg, with hindsight. Delicious.

Amazingly attentive service and a wonderful atmosphere, along with very fresh food. I had the scallops with chorizo and Asian flavours which were incredible. Then the ‘burger’ which let me down a little - panko crusted fish pieces with two separate scallops and a prawn (I expected it to be minced together so maybe my mistake). The food was all good, others raved about the chowder and taco’s. I’d definitely go again.

Lovely setting. Staff including the chefs were clearly working flat out under difficult circumstances (COVID). Fish and chips x2 were lovely but chips with both meals were spoiled with a thick dusting of salt which we did not ask for. Most restaurants leave condiments for customers to add to their meals even during restrictions so I would suggest this could be an improvement. Otherwise very pleasant meal.

Definitely deserves 5 stars for the food but unfortunately 1 star for service that lets this place down . Had ordered beer and cocktail and the food came first as the drinks were sat on bar for 10 minutes on a tray , were at the point of getting up and helping ourselves to the drinks but had to ask for them . Had sweet potatoes fries that we didn’t order but had to ask for the new potatoes we had ordered but didn’t get . Whether it was a bad day but sadly the young girl that served us did her job ok ( ish) but definitely could to with interacting with the customers

We was in Plymouth seeing my son and he took us here. He's a regular the owner knew him he's been that many times ha ha Omg now I know why the fish finger butty was the best I have ever tasted and my boyfriend had the fish and chips it was all amazing food. Next time we travel from Liverpool at least we know we have great fish and chips to taste when we arrive.

Absolutely fantastic. What a joyful experience. I wanted an unusual present for my mother for mother's Day and the boys at Hook and Line delivered. A box which included Scollops, Pollock, butter, chilli, garlic and parsley. I live in Yorkshire and mum lives in Plymouth so I could not collect but when she arrived to collect it they made her feel very special. They knew she was coming and she was shown exactly what she was getting. Thank you so very much.

Nice environment. Lovely music, kind personnel and tasty coctails. However, there was a very bad odour in the restaurant and the benches were really uncomfortable, especially because the gentleman sitting next to me was moving all the time.

This is written during lockdown. Called the restaurant and placed an order. I was given a pickup time (based on my preferred time). I arrived at the appointed time, made a contactless payment then collected my order from the next window. There are four of us we each had a fish finger sandwich with a side of chips. Food was fresh, hot and very tasty. The homemade slaw delicious. The food was boxed really well and survived the journey home in good shape. I would definitely recommend. #supportlocal
