Authentic Japanese food, excellent staff and service. Upper floor has Japanese style low sitting tables and offers a quite and comfy dining experience. I would definitely recommend this place and come back again if possible.

The front of the building looks a bit rough, but inside is lovely. Friendly staff and a good range of food. We had a selection of sushi which was fresh and beautifully prepared. I recommend the tempura scallops which were delicious!

Had mixed feelings about our meal here. We had a 8pm reservation on Saturday and got served promptly. After we ordered we were then told there wasn't any prawns or steak. He then came back to say there was steak but we had to wait as the chef wasn't going to cut anymore originally. The starters came out 15 minutes apart so sent it back so we could eat together. They then ran out of tiger beer. All that said however, the food was excellent. A little pricey maybe but good quality. All in all a mixed first impression.

One of my favourite places. Food is always amazing. Very well presented. Definitely worth taking advantage of the current 50% off during August. Portions are a decent size. The lunch menu is between £12 to £15 depending on if you go for 2 or 3 courses.. Or order off the main menu, but can get pricey. Our meals were off the main menu and cost around £18 each but obviously 50% off right now. I've ordered off the lunch menu previously and the food is amazing... Especially the starter beef salad.. Definitely worth a visit. They are currently taking reservations over the phone with alloted time slots and asked to give phone number and temperature check and hand gel upon entry

Best sushi and teriyaki outside of central London. Their O-tiro(fatty tuna) was sourced from Tokyo. Had a great meal here. Chef was very proud of his excellent food, as he should be.

Yukisan is not exactly a Japanese restaurant. Overall, the food is very average. The steamed sea bass leans toward Chinese cooking, but was cooked quite well The stiff gyoza (as in a hard crisp yet doughy exterior) and sashimi were both very unremarkable. I would probably not visit again.

All the staff members were very nice and friendly. I ordered the seafood bento, it was okay. Not the best tempura as the batter was a bit hard, the edamame beans were soggy and watery, but the salmon was good. But overall, it's not a bad restaurant to enjoy a little bit of peace and quiet while having Japanese food. :)

Very delicious sushi and miso soup. The fish tasted fresh and amazing. The waitress did not remember what type of sushi was on the sushi plate. The two and the three course meals relatively expensive. I prefer to order the food separately. It was all in all a good experience but there are only one type of dessert which is ice cream.

Good Japanese food, if hard to find (chalkboard sign was inside & big sign in Japanese!). Chose pretty well from the menu (for 5, finding some rib-eye steak that was great!) but attentive staff on hand to suggest to avoid dislikes/allergies. The two kids we ate with loved the sushi (and everything else that they 'can't eat') so we had lots of help finishing everything. On the expensive side, seeing as we didn't have alcohol, but nice food. Worth checking out.

Absolutely incredible food, to die for you must go! Don't let the outside fool you with the half open blinds, whem you go inside the decor and mood is absolutely sublime. Japanese style restaurant seeting upstairs was an absolute hoot, especially for those with long legs! Table service from multiple waitresses was faultless and polite, with food arriving within 5mins or ordering. Covid precautions were also top notch with sanitiser on the door and temperature checks.

Second visit and an even better experience. The decor and ambience are inviting. The young man who looked after us for the evening was attentive and very much a plus point, had a personality! First dish, Chicken Yakitori skewers. Portion size, just right with the chicken, cooked to perfection. The sauce, yum. Next, Wasabi steak. As with any steak too much or too liitle cooking, yuck. Mine, cooked medium rare and as tender as you would hope. Accompanied with ramen noodles (extra charge but worth it). I am normally take them or leave them with noodles. This time, the perfect addition. I think you can guess, thoroughly recommend.

Oh my! We booked here about 6 weeks before we came, purely on high recommendations from Google... We were not disappointed. From the moment you enter you are well taken care of. We opted for the floor seating upstairs and the taster menu. I had the plum cocktail, perfect sweetness and full of flavour. The courses came, and each and every component was as good as the first. Fresh fish, perfect rice, taste was excellent. The staff are an asset to the restaurant, each one pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient. I really wish I lived closer, as this has to be my favourite dining experience in a very long time. Next time I'm in Plymouth, I am coming without hesitation.

I was reasonably delighted to see a Japanese restaurant on the list of where to eat near me. I love Japanese food, it is by far the most elegant of cuisines. I suppose on a drab Monday night in Plymouth, I should not have been surprised that there were only another couple of tables being occupied, so for quite a large restaurant it lacked any sort of vibrancy. I opted fot the six course taster menu: miso with Scallop, wonderful: sashimi, delightful, prawns, expertly cooked and served with a beautifully light sauce. Then chicken katsu with Jasmin rice, which apart from being a massive portion was clearly not cooked by the person responsible for the rest. To finish a green tea ice cream which was just horrible. Staff was friendly. I would go back, but not for a set menu.

Excellent, one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to. Went on a Tuesday evening, quite quiet, a very relaxed and comfortable environment. Ordered the chicken teriyaki, katsu chicken, scallop skewers and the wasabi mayonnaise chips. Food came out in good time and presented beautifully. Staff were friendly and served quickly. Portion sizes were perfect.

Just been in for lunch for our anniversary. We're not overly experienced when it comes to sushi. So we asked the waiter for his recommendations. In the end we let him go free rein on the choice. We couldn't have asked for better service or better food. Everything was divine. If anyone is questioning where to go to eat in Plymouth, this hands down wins every time. This was our first visit to the restaurant, we had a lovely smiley welcome from the staff - everything was Covid safe, we wore masks we had hand sanitizer to use, they took our temperature and everything was good. The service was first class, nothing was too much trouble, the food was absolutely delicious with explanation as to what they were. Very very tasty and there was no rush to leave the table. Thoroughly enjoyable meal or intention is to go back again next month. Congratulations to one and all who work in the restaurant ... top top quality establishment.

Having read the reviews we were hoping for more. The food was ok at best but when the bill came we felt cheated, my wife is Asian so knows the food and even she wasn’t impressed. We’ve definitely had much better for far less. Would definitely not rush back. On a positive note the staff were very helpful and attentive.

Having looked at the pictures on Google I was expecting to be blown away. We were seated in the Japanese area upstairs so were seated on the floor (the hard floor is very hard ha!), which was a nice novelty. The interior is a little shabby, and the top floor specifically didn't feel very Japanese. We ordered the 7 course tasting menu (sushi platter), this was plentiful and had a good variety. However, the sushi wasn't visually appetising and was distinctly average. Although, I have never had green tea ice cream and that was a triumph. I would recommend this restaurant as I think we just went on a bad day.

Best food I’ve ever had! Tried the 6 course tasting menu with my partner, one had with katsu and one with sushi platter. The miso soup to start was so heart warming and delicious, then we had salmon sashimi which was fresh and looked adorably layed out. Then we had the tempura prawns and rib eyes beef wrapped asparagus that came out together. The mains were the katsu and sushi which were 10/10 and finally with green tea ice cream. We also ordered duck rolls extra that were perfectly crispy. Everything came out quickly but was hot and fresh. Staff were friendly and polite and overall this was a great experience. I had the lychee muddle cocktail which tasted like a yoghurt it was sweet and almost hard to believe alcoholic! This is my new favourite place and I will definitely be back!

Japanese music in the ambient give this place some charm. Most important in restaurant. Food. If you bored another fish and chips this place show you new level of taste. I'm not fan of frutti di mare. Ordered wasabi steak. To be honest best steak in my life. Even try ramen soup, sushi and tempura prawns. All delicious. My wife ordered over 10 meals and try everything. She want to return and try more. Now pricing. According to quantity of meals and appetizers for 4 person (1 is growing up boy who is able to eat 3 kebabs as an appetizer before dinner) I expecting bill around £200. Surprisingly bill was under £150. That's including alcohol and non alcohol drinks. Restaurant isn't cheap. But also not overpriced. If you like sushi and know only YoSushi... this place take you for another level. Portions are big enough to feed. I was full after main meal but my weight is around 10 stones and I expecting not big enough for 20 stones physical worker. Appetizers do their job in this case. To be honest, 3 of us had a problem to stand out of table as we feel overloaded and we left plenty of food on table. Next time we order food more sensible. I'm pretty sure will be next time. This place is worth to visit. Great to discover new taste. And be prepared to share dishes. This is the best way to discover Japanese kitchen.

Great atmosphere, service and lovely food. Taster menu is excellent. Sushi is large and filling, you don't need as much as at other restaurants, and certainly compared to the likes of Itsu etc. Tea isn't loose leaf, and staff Sake knowledge seemed limited.

I have been going to this place since the very early days! About 16 years ago when I was at university in Plymouth. It’s always consistent with the standard, service and always cooked in a reasonable amount of time or very speedy on quiet days. It offers great value for money on the special lunch and evening set menus and even the extensive al la carte menu provides fabulous food and sushi. I would definitely recommend this place and I have always recommended this place to all my friends over the years and they even like to stop in when they have travelled into the area for a catch up! Yukisan is a lovely Japanese restaurant. The menu is not enormously varied, but everything is well made and has good flavour. Having been to Japan, I can also say that Yukisan's food is pleasantly authentic. Service is good and the decor and atmosphere are pleasant. I have been to Yukisan's many times and am yet to find any negatives. Yukisan's is what I would describe as fine dining for Japanese foods. There menu is extensive although you sometimes have to ask what an option is. They offer some of the most refreshing cocktails I know of, definitely give the cherry blossom one a go. The food is prepared fresh and is always a delight to eat. I have always enjoyed my food here and visit it normally on special occasions for example Anniversary's or Birthdays. The price here may appear a little pricy but it's worth every penny, especially for those that enjoy their Japanese cuisine. Definitely recommend this hidden gem.

Went here with my family and it was delightful. It is indeed in the somewhat pricy category, but definitely without being extravagant. Notice it is not the kind of japanese resturant with small or light portions. You'll be well fed when finished. Fun fact, they have a delicious wasabi/mayonnaise sauce. It sounds weird, but it's great!

Yukisan is the first Japanese restaurant in Devon when it was established in 2004, situated in Plymouth’s Barbican area. In this restaurant you can experience the real Japanese way of dining with seating on tatami mats or opt for a more western feel with soft oriental music in the background to heighten the atmosphere. The food is outstandingly amazing as well as the presentation with an excellent menu range both in food and drinks, personally I adore the beef tartar not just for the taste but for experiencing the moment that is brings. Yukisan also offers a lunch time menu with bento's (lunch boxes) been a favourite. I've visited Yukisan for many years and I have never been disappointed with the service. The experience create's memories that you will remember and want to share over and over again, best shared with others or the perfect setting for a date or even just visit for the delight on your own, either way it's something that you will remember for years to come.
