Reviews of The Continental
R.
We visited The Continental on a Friday night to see a tribute band. We arrived alittle early and although busy managed to get around in the manual chair without too much difficulty. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The show itself was in the rear of the building and was standing only on this occasion. The band was really good and everyone had a great time. The accessible toilet was easy to get to and move around in.

First time I visit and won't be the last. I enjoyed the vibe, the drinks were refreshing and quite nice. I was recommended to come and I am happy I did.
They did not have food service when I was there, so I can't rate this. I hope I can do so in my next visit.
c. b.
Went in for a bday drink with 12 freinds.
Seating no problem as lots of space inside an outside.
Lots of drinks avaible.
Menus got differnt choices.
Speacils also avaible.

What can I say the 5 stars speak for itself.
Great food, quick service, staff were friendly and helpful. Really great place to rest and get some refreshment after you done the walk in the park.
Fantastic atmosphere in the garden, family and dog friendly.
Best of all beer list are very good with some great name in taps and bottle.
Definitely recommend it and will be back soon.
Let me know what you think. 👌

A great place, quite beautiful and in an amazing location....we recently attended the concert venue to see Henge and had one of the best nights ever!!
D. C.
Great place with lovely outdoor gardens. Good food, nice staff. Totally unexpected. Bands on too regular. Big 👍
K. O.
Plenty of outdoor seating on the sunny evening. Good choice of beers at reasonable prices - only downside was length of queue at the bar so serving time wasn't great but it was pretty full.
Two tribute bands playing which added to the enjoyment and atmosphere.

First time in here, delightful experience, gorgeous pint, can't wait to go back and try their food too 🥰🥰🥰
M. E.
Chilled in the beer garden in the sun. Great location and sunny for most of the day. They often have live music at weekends too. Beer is good 👍🏽
There’s a long wait on food a lot of the time but we were aware so ordered immediately. Very much pub food but the location makes up for it.
We will be back soon to try their Sunday dinners!
T. C.
One of the best venues in the area, meaning the north west, not just Preston. Great atmosphere. A fantastic place for live music. All kinds of intriguing cultural events in their calendar. Get yourself there!
D. B.
Good feel to the place and location is perfect nice food and beer
S. R.
We did a taxi run and stopped for an early evening drink on the return journey. Great gardens and lots of space between tables outside. Dogs are allowed too. There's plenty of patron only parking behind the pub if needed.

New Continental has quickly become our go-to place for great food and an even better selection of drinks. With a fantastic atmosphere and a warm and inviting environment, we always enjoy stopping by. Vegan food on offer is excellent, and the rotating menu keeps us coming back for more!
A special mention is definitely due to Chris and Ruby, who always make us feel welcome, and will happily chat away to us and make (always correct!) recommendations on food or drink, with amazing friendliness.
With a car park that always has spaces, getting here is super easy, and it is well positioned to dive in for a drink while walking through Avenham - worth it just for the view of the river and bridge! I would thoroughly recommend visiting.

Fantastic venue and staff, one I've been working alongside for well over a decade, from the Lovely Egg's supporting Schervon on a Tuesday evening all the way to Thurston Moore and Michael Chapman.
Not only this, the food is amazing, friendly staff, amazing coffee and they're supportive of myself running my own events at the Conti and helped set myself up as an events promoter in the beginning.
I've learned so much, had so many amazing experiences and love working for them.
I. G.
Good food, lovely atmosphere and most importantly dog friendly.
Spent a lovely time with the family.
M. F.
Visited July 2021, great beer garden perfect for a summers day. The session beer (Marble Continental) is very quaffable. Good food menu also.
G. B.
Nice pub. Sat outside in the big tidy beer garden/verandah. The beer was good. Meals about £12-£18 . Chicken burger, cajun salmon pasta, beef burger & vegan burger all excellent. Honey glazed ribs just a shame they didn't taste fresh & hot. All portions big. Chips excellent. Presentation and quantity very good. But! Deserts! Deserts about £6 each look excellent, big portions again, well presented but we're very poor quality. 1st time in 57 years I've left a desert. Salted caramel on chocolate mousse thing, "chocolate pot", salted caramel disappointing & mousse tasted watery & not chocolatey. Turkish delight cheesecake, also left some, fantastic presentation but the Turkish delight topping was like a really firm jelly & didn't really taste like or have the consistency of Turkish delight. I woulldn't bother with deserts again. All 3 people left some of their deserts. Waiting staff awesome, super pleasant.
J. D.
Amazing place to drink or eat, the staff are great and amazing with social distancing! The beer garden is amazing on a sunny day! We actually walk 50 minutes to get here it's so good!!
v. H.
One of my all time favourite venues.
I've seen some amazing music artists here and it has the most beautiful setting and beer garden.
A. W. (.
Decent burger, nice atmosphere, and polite staff. Not much else to expect really. Very nice lunch indeed
S. K.
The food was excellent. Unfortunately quite a long wait, 40 minutes, till a waiter took our order. We liked the online reservation service and the Covid-19 measures in place. Still 5 starts because the food was excellent consistently for our last 5 visits. Normally the service is quick.
I. B.
Very high end quality food at very fair prices as always. The place is taking covid very seriously and we felt completely safe during our visit. The staff were fantastic as always also.
P. R.
Top draw very popular pub. 9 real ales and good selection of keg, craft, cider and bottles. Food is excellent. Highly Recommended
D. P. L.
I can't rate this place highly enough, it's definitely Preston's hidden gem.
Good atmosphere, great music and the food is outstanding
R. S.
We turned up cold and thirsty on a busy Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately there weren't any tables inside. It looks like you can reserve them though. Anyway we were very pleased with the service. All the people working there were willing to help and served us promptly. We were served at the table after the waiter brought our meals. I had a delicious spicy chicken burger with skin on fries. Couldn't fault it. A proper piece of deliciously spicy chicken breast.
Coffee was good and our friend had a pint of gluten free beer on draught. He was quite emotional. It was his first pint of draught since he had to go gluten free a few years since. Well done The Continental, you made his day.
A. G. V.
Such a lovely pub. Great beer choices and plenty of space, went to a gig here too and nice small venue, bar at the back, controlled and good sound quality.
L. B.
Met a friend for food, it was a warm evening so just fancied something light. We ordered 4 starters to share... Each one was absolutely delicious! The zucchini and haloumi fritters were particularly good. The staff were great, really polite and attentive. Definitely be back!
T. D. D.
Great place to stop whilst walking.. met with family with dogs and sat in the lovely garden 😊
J. B.
Great atmosphere, nice outdoor sitting area with plenty of room for the kids. Serving food also but not sure as we didn't try. £4.95 for a Guinness though, lol.
J. H.
Lovely pub with a massive outdoor space! Beautiful setting by the river, will definitely be coming back.
S.
Wow this was a great place to have Sunday Lunch. Food was really very good and service was really perfect and the garden was pretty.
P. A. V.
Contemporary pub with large indoor seating and outdoor seating area/beer garden adjacent to the popular Miller and Avenham parks and River Ribble.
Lovely, particularly on a warm day.
Friendly bar service and extensive offer of ales (including craft), ciders and gins, alongside typical fayre.
S. B.
You have to try a night at the continental for one of their music events. They are nothing shy of brilliant quality with too quality acts
S. P.
Best pub in the area full of art and culture. Great beer garden, only the food let's it down, best eating in town.
L. P.
It’s a beautiful location, perfect food, kind staff, nice music, you Van find a proper baby change room! We have to come back in summer to enjoy the garden! 😃
R. A.
Nice food, veggie menu has improved. Lovely friendly staff. Really nice, spacious beer garden
A. W.
Only went here for drinks but lovely vibe, reasonably priced, good beer selection and lovely South facing beer garden so perfect for those summer nights.
A. P.
Lovely place. Kids allowed. Great fir watching bands as there is a separate room
K. M.
I went with my Husband for our wedding anniversary. I email a week in advance to reserve a table I asked if it was possible to be seated with not to much noise as I have high level autism. They sat us behind a noises family, kids were very loud, also the music was very loud. I found it hard to enjoy my self as I was battling my sensory over loud.
The staff were nice. Food came out fast. I personally would not rate the food 5 star. basic pub food that is made to look fancy. Expect to pay £61.00 for two people for a 3 course meal. Also no cocktails, just beer and wines.
It did not feel like a calm environment, not an Autistic friendly pub in my personally opinion. We will not be going back.
I did not put 5 star only 3 because;
1.the lack of understanding and resources for disabilities and accommodating paying customers that want a nice night out.
2. the price for the food, is just a tad high.
E. B.
Best pub in Preston. Great atmosphere, good position, close to the park, great food always and desserts. Some stuff on the menu are very nicely decorated, they have a good chef. Outside garden is great also. Big bonus for allowing dogs as well.
Visiting it quite often, both in cold and warm seasons.
D. J.
Used to love the food at this place. Went on Friday night and to be honest the menu options and the food were uninspiring. They need to get back to where they were, a great pub with great food.
A. W.
Just love this place. Dined on the finest Sunday roast I've possibly ever had. Love the live bands on offer and promise to catch one or two
M. W.
Excellent choice of Real Ale. Large sunny Beer Garden and does food. Next to Avenham and Miller park,, well worth the walk.
a. b.
The Meatloaf and Sunday Roast were good quality ingredients cooked well. Staff were very attentive and we sat overlooking the gardens and autumn trees. Will return for another pleasant Sunday afternoon.
J. C.
Really good pub with a fantastic beer garden and amazing beer choices! There is also a live music room around the back and looking at the posters for future bands it's got to be worth a re visit for sure!
D. K.
Almost a great place to hang out and grab a few beers. The open mic in the snug is always a good night.
r. f.
Not been for a few years. Hidden away but always very busy and on a cool January Saturday afternoon we had to sit outside but all in all very good for a quick couple of beers. Booking in advance for the next visit..
J. G.
Great choice of beers, fab service. Beer garden is lovely
K. M.
Good service. Nice food and drink. Good atmosphere and aesthetics.
A. B.
Live music, good selection of beers, friendly bar staff, massive outside seating area
A. K.
UPDATE:
After a few months we decided to give this lovely place another chance after hearing that the management has changed.
Service was great and very quick.
The food we were served was great in quality presentation.
Definitely recommend it to everyone now and will be enjoying it in the future!
We booked out table for 7.45pm. Got seated at 8.30pm after reminding that we were still waiting. The food came around 10pm and it was nowhere near to standard of what we paid for. Personally, I would recommend to come for drinks only, do not bother to order food.
F. P.
Went for a staff Christmas meal atmosphere was lovely food was slightly bland but that's just down to personal taste
B. L.
Great place to have a beer after a walk in the park .Good menu too.
G. F.
Good food although my wife chilli beef sandwich was I bit hot for her
E. C.
Awsome beer and great sunday lunch! Lovely staff good atmosphere. They have lots of live music that worth checking out.
M. C.
Nice food and excellent beer but a bit expensive and food portions sizes are very small. I don't want to dwell on the negatives of one or my favourite places as I would highly recommend this place. Just order a starter if you want to be full!
L. M.
Lovely outdoor space and great that it's dog friendly will definitely go again
J. M.
Had a great night here tonight with friends. Had drinks and a share platter in the garden, fantastic food and great service.
N. J.
Nice enough place - huge garden. If you're coming here with the family I imagine it's nice for a summer afternoon.
I came with some friends for dinner and had the ribs. They were dry and the spices on them were somehow without much taste. The chips were OK but the salad tasted like it had been soaked in vinegar for a week. My friend also had the ribs and said the same.
The dessert was great though - cherry chocolate cheesecake with ice cream. I need to have this again.
All in all, it's not a bad pub. I really hope my meal was a one off and not representative of their menu as a whole. I probably wouldn't choose to eat here again, but I wouldn't object to coming here for a drink.
D. H.
Decent beer selection and huge beer garden, with views in the river & the park. Not tried the food here.
m. c.
Great pub nice to walk to in summer and sit outside,
K. x.
Lovely meal. We only had a starter because we saw the pudding menu and weren't disappointed.
M. S.
Really nice place to eat and drink. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, meals served in good time and food was lovely, would recommend a visit
B. R.
Food was amazing, staff wonderful
A. D.
Proper pub with a great selection of beers. Very popular when we visited today and dog friendly too!! Lovely big fire going in the back room!!
D. M.
Pricey drinks but was only there to really watch the band that was on who were absolutely excellent
A. B.
Probably my favourite venue my band have played so far. Great stage, great crowd and staff are brilliant. Go check out a band there soon!
D. B.
Food was decent though a little over priced. Service was not the best (no-one came to all is how three did was for example). Good choice of local beers
L. T.
Love the conti, great range of drinks usually lots of different ales and lagers to try. The food is yummy - even if the menu is quite limited.
The app is handy and service is quick Always enjoy going here, such a lovely beer garden.
K. N.
A nice place by the river the food was very nice i think it would be a lovely place to visit in the summer to enjoy food or just a drink in the conservatory or the garden
J. W.
Great Beer Festival, lots of people great Beer, cider, Gin, Prosecco, wine, Food , Music, vibe, atmosphere
E. L.
Went to the Continental for the first time after being recommend. Went with our family. Excellent meal well recommend
Lovely food.££
s. r.
We enjoyed the ambiance of this place complimented by the excellent food. A really good selection of beers also available look forward to our next visit
J. B.
Excellent staff and great range of beers.
G. J.
It's a great pub by the Ribble with access to Avenham Park and beyond via the Guild Wheel. I recommend a few Belgian beers and a Conti Burger with good company. Can be a bit tricky to find in a car but worth the rattle across the cobbles!
L. H.
First time eating at the continental with our family yesterday. Food and drink was good. There's something for everyone on the menu, but we wont be rushing back. We turned up early for our booking, which apparently annoyed the foh staff and we were ignored until I reminded them again that we had made a booking. (Which is bad form, considering there was no one else to serve at this point!) One woman was particularly miserable throughout the experience. The atmosphere and her attitude was really unwelcoming.
I know its not easy working in hospitality, but staff need to remember that customers work hard for the money that they choose to spend in your establishment, the least you could do is smile and make effort to communicate in a friendly manner. We'll find somewhere else to spend 80 odd quid next time.
A. W.
I really like The Continental, been a few times already and will be back.
C.
1st time at this pub, great beer garden, staff friendly
A. K.
Awesome music venue, I've been twice to Blackburn with Darwen Big Band and The Managers' Big Band. Cosy place, decent food, dog-friendly.
m. d.
Splendid pet friendly restaurant. Good menu served well. At reasonable cost. Servers excellent, will return.
J. M.
Food was superb. Really enjoyed the brisket.
d. h.
Pub was pretty good, nice outside beer garden. Good choice of beers . Tried chips for our walk group, small portions , only fault with the place.
L. M.
We went to see the Hellfire Preachers at the Continental... great atmosphere, loved every minute
P. A.
Great food and ales staff really friendly
T. C.
Went to see Willie and the bandits, a very good group in a nice venue with decent beer. Thanks to all concerned 👍
G. C.
Always have a decent ale on 👍🏻🍻
b. j.
Great selection of beers just what was needed after a cycle ride.
D. P.
First time here with the family. Really good selection of food, ales and wines. Seems like a nice place to dine in regulary. Spot on attention by the staff. 👍
J. B.
Super friendly and helpful staff, great menu. All food fresh and beautifully presented. Restaurant conservatory and gazebos in large, enclosed private garden.
R. Y.
We went here for a tribute band and had an excellent night.
found it to be ok price on the drinks, some very cosy sections and pet friendly.
M. W.
Great food, service and drinks choice. Very nice place to be in the beer Garden on a summers day.
K. (.
Not had food here before but I'll definitely be trying it at some point. I usually just go once a month for the creative writing and reading club that is hosted here but it's a nice place, good atmosphere and you can tell they're hygienic and keep on top of line cleans. Dog friendly in the back garden as well which is always a bonus!
G.
The continental in my opinion is the heart of the Ribble, connecting people and communities whilst delivering incredible food and drinks! Not only does the bar and menu have a delicious choice, they also have a wonderful range of gigs and community projects such as the Cinema at the Continental, bringing communities together to enjoy culture, togetherness and delicious chips and pints, forever my favourite. 🍺🎥💞
J. M.
Really nice food and friendly staff
P. A.
Great food and beer. Massive beer garden.
T. E.
Really enjoyed the setting outdoors, team has managed really well during covid limitations. Was great having BBQ outdoors, Honeywell burger was a treat. Great selection of ales too!
N. F.
Super fun staff , tasty food and beers
S. C.
Very overrated. Staff are nice, the beer garden is great and the ales are fantastic, but the food is genuinely awful. There’s been a problem every single time I’ve been here for food. Stick to the drinks and you’re good. Sometimes feels like you’re at a dog kennels too.
A. F.
Delicious food, generous portions, fabulous service...can't wait to go again😁.
J. M.
Helpful staff who ensured the meal was cooked to perfection.
J. W.
I do love the Conti but they’ve taken their eye off the ball with the Sunday roasts, last weeks was average! Tough beef, bland veg - come on Conti, you can do better.
M. R.
Brilliant pub !!! Great food and drink ,staff and entertainment first class !!!
L. Y.
Food delicious, sat outside in the sunshine, very busy, had a bit of a wait for food but understandable, staff kept us informed
D. C.
Good food, great beer selection, excellent garden area. Lots of live music events throughout the year.
E. W.
We came for the Preston Pop Festival so we spent most of the weekend here. It was very relaxing, with pleasant staff, good drinks (and barbecue food) and a great vibe in the outdoor area.
P. K.
Great pub.
Good place yo park up, have good long walk by the Ribble and come back for a couple o' bevvies and if you want, summat to eat.
Great for the doggies too 🐕🐕👍👍❤❤
M. W.
Great place, plenty of room including seating areas outside with fairy lights.
Great menu choices and specials, food is amazing and I've eaten in a lot of places around the world in many different restaurants and pubs, the portions are very generous and the price is great considering the quality of food you get.
Service was great as well very polite, helpful and professional cannot think of anything to improve this place hense the very deserved 5 stars!
Will be going back many times!
B. H.
Great pub. Good beer selection, nice food but pricey.
D. B.
Great selection and quality of beer in a great location. Cosy inside with loads of space outside and dog friendly
P. B.
Staff are very pleasant and the rooms are nicely maintained. I had my first meal at this pub and sadly found it pretty bland and tasteless.
M. H.
Menu looked good but turned out to be just above average, disappointed.
M. S.
The food and alcohol selection here is usually really good, and I love how the menu changes regularly. The snug area is also a lovely addition to sit in in the winter.
My only complaint is that the wait for food can be very slow as I believe the kitchen is quite small. Not always warned about this by the staff, so don't go in a rush expecting a quick bite to eat!
Puddings here are always delicious, their bread and butter pudding is amazing.
S. A.
Best pub in Preston for me! Great range of beer and a nice atmosphere to match
D. W.
Lovely pub in a fabulous river side location. Food menu is small which is a bonus - means the kitchen isn't overstretching and the food is very well prepared and tasty. Bit more expensive than other places in town but well worth it. Beer selection is excellent with plenty on cask, keg and bottle.
S. M.
Great selection of beers in this large popular pub restaurant. The owners work really hard to create a welcoming atmosphere. The beer garden on a sunny afternoon eith a pint of Erdinger Dunkel Weissbier is just the place to be.
G. K.
We visited this pub for a Sunday lunch. They only had one roast available (lamb) but the remainder of the menu was varied and extensive. The food was delicious when it eventually arrived but such a shame that the service was very slow. The waiters were all friendly and polite but every aspect took an age. We waited to order, we waited ages for the food, empty plates were left on the table and we waited again to have them cleared and get a dessert menu. We then waited to order dessert. You get the picture. Also the one simple request of 'No gravy' on one of the meals was ignored by the chef. In brief, nice pub with tasty food but be prepared for a wait. We were there nearly 3 hours!! This could be so easily rectified with better trained staff who don't just focus on the one job at hand. If you serve a table food and on the way back see empty plates take them with you. Save time and another journey. Simple restaurant management. Full hands out, full hands in!
S. T.
Hot buffet for a function. Gorgeous food, super-friendly staff & chef bent over backwards to accommodate a food intolerance.
u. g.
Have just had the most awesome meal with my daughter and boyfriend. Stunning food beautifully presented. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. We were not rushed and spent over two hours there. I totally recommend this place for a special meal. Thank you to all those who looked after us.
N. J.
Nice selection of beers, I didn't eat but the menu and food looked nice.
D. W.
This is without doubt my favourite pub in the whole of Preston. There’s a huge choice of beers etc. to choose from, a great beer garden and the food is lovely. To top it off, there’s also a lot of events that take place such as beer festivals and live music.
A. B.
Good food great atmosphere - ideal place to eat if you're going to watch a band there. Vegan options available too.
N. C.
Great pint in a lovely location.
S. W.
Used to come here donkeys years ago. So sad to see no vehicle access along the riverside. This is a shocking situation for a riverside pub and they deserve compensation as the street with access is double parked for several hundred yards a is virtually one go one thru its ridiculous for a pub ,set up on this scale, they deserve far better from the council.
G. W.
Excellent food fast service friendly vibe to the place great music really enjoyed myself thankyou and see u next time
j. f.
What a lovely little place ! Hadn't known it existed before
A. S.
I feel like I'm being a little harsh with a 3 star review; the menu is great, loaded with lots of appealing dishes. The presentation was spot on but both my starter and main lacked and really wow factor in the taste department. My dining partner was equally unimpressed with their starter but did comment that their main was a lot better. I can't fault the service throughout. I'll revisit and happily upgrade my rating on a better showing.
S. B.
Lovely atmosphere but over £11.00 for 3 portions of chips (not homemade) very expensive . Need to review the price on that!
S. B.
Very nice and relaxing. Good good at reasonable prices, menu just a little bit different than the usual pub food and better for it. Allow a little more time for service due to new regs.
R. S.
On a sunny day, the beer garden is a deservedly popular destination for walkers, cyclists and anyone else needing some refreshment at this riverside pub. A wide range of good beers are available together with excellent quality food. This pub/restaurant also has an attached live music venue hosting a variety of events throughout the year. Recommended.
A. L.
Great pub, a very wide selection of beers. Good food as well. Beer garden and conservatory mean you can stay whatever the weather. Parking available and right next to an entrance to the park. Only s short walk through the park into Preston shopping centres.
T. H.
Fantastic food. Excellent service. Visited for our works Christmas meal and will be back. Desserts were really tasty though two of our party had Xmas pud which was lacking in potion size compared to the others. Overall I would highly recommend the pub
A. D.
Great selection of beers, no waiting, friendly service, great music venue....will be back to try the food soon!!
M. L.
Good beer, helpful staff, plenty of seating options (pub, conservatory, garden) and spotlessly clean. Only downside I could find is its s bit pricey
C. J.
What a great find! Amazing choice of reasonably priced beer. Food excellent. Now I've found this gem I'll be going again.
D. H.
Excellent food and service will return again when in the area.
A. M.
A brilliant pub with a excellent selection of beers, ciders and wines. It's a very popular stop when the sun is out so expect a queue to get served but it's worth the wait! It's on the river and near the park so a good place for a walk before or after a couple of refreshments.
R. A.
Love the beer garden as there is space for Reggie dog to spread out and nap while we enjoy some of the abundant ales on offer. In the past, we have also enjoyed the concerts in offer and look forward to more in the future.
J. N.
Haven't been in the Continental for years and Service was Good and it was Clean.
D. R.
Fantastic evening with friends, excellent food, friendly staff who did an amazing job in these strange times. First trip out after lockdown, we felt very safe with all the extra sanitary facilities available. Thank you, we will be back!!
R. A.
Good food, fast service. All in all a lovely meal out!
A. C.
Great little music venue. Wide selection of beers on offer. Love the conservatory and gardens, especially on a sunny day. It's not really local to me but would happily come back for a visit anytime.
S. H.
Great selection of food to cater to absolutely everyone. Tasty and good value. Loads of tsnles and space.
J. G.
I go to this place whenever I'm visiting friends in Preston. Love the atmosphere and the food is always good... a cut above the normal. Good, solid reliable cooking and presented with flair. I've never thought I've had anything but value. Nice setting too.
R. B.
Attentive staff. Had chips and a baileys hot choccie, both delicious. Would recommend after a walk around avenham park.
S. F.
It's a quality old school but with new ideas pub. Good music, good atmosphere and good food. The beer garden is great even though it suffers from the same problem as all beer gardens in that it becomes a smoke garden, minor quibble, come along to the best pub in Preston and one off the best in the region.
i. w.
Well run pub with a wide selection of beers and good food. My dads bitter was average but that's now the normal in most pubs unfortunately.
S. P.
A great venue with lots of bands and always a good atmosphere. Some great beer selections both on draught and bottled. Had a couple of meals here with friends too and never been disappointed. A credit to Preston and definitely one of its finer venues.
B. S.
Great pub. Twice a year beer fest that gives a great opportunity for seasoned or learner drinkers to experience a wide variety of real ales and ciders in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere with music and good. Put it in your diary.
M. B.
Have visited here for drinks on sunny afternoons after walking around the park, and we really love the outdoor area, its got spacious seating areas and plenty places for kids to run around and play.
Service at the bar is friendly, and although I've not eaten here the food looks really tasty.
There is a car park, and some parking on the street available too.
L. D.
This is a great pub for a sunny afternoon. Always busy though, so if you want a seat in the garden you need to get down there early. They serve decent home cooked food here, and there's plenty of variety and value to be had from the bar. Definitely worth a visit.
I. C.
This is basically the best pub in Preston. The selection of drinks -- from cask ales, European beers to wines and spirits -- is simply immense and they're always rotating new and interesting drinks in for you to expand your senses. The staff are mostly friendly, the decor is lovely, the beer garden is _brilliant_ and the food, though slightly expensive, is some of the best I've had from any pub.
A special place in my heart.
G. D. T.
The food and drinks were amazing, service from Gregory was second to non
As a local, I am a telephone customer service worker, and if there was a competition as to who has the best phone manners out of everybody in this world, it would go to the continental.... Not really, they cussed me over the phone, I am an elderly local who spent the remainder of my day wondering what I did wrong to the poor fellow
Will return to seek refund

My go to pub in Preston - Always has a really extensive selection of beers and ales to choose from, has a lovely beer garden, and regularly hosts various tribute bands. Their beer and cider festival during the summer is especially good; a highlight of the year!
B. W.
Lovely food. Enough said!
C. W.
Friendly staff with excellent food and drink choices. The decor is classy and everything is clean and tidy.
There's plenty going on with live bands on regularly and it's located right next to the River Ribble and Avenham Park, handy for the guild Wheel.
J. Y.
Not the cheapest pub in the world, but it's certainly worth the slight expense for thier excellent selection. The food is highly recommended, and the interior is a lovely place to dine and chat, too. It's annual be festivals are one of the highlights of the year for entertainment in Preston. It's also worth keeping an eye out for the other events they hold; I've been to many a good gig here.
p. c.
Lovely food x and gardens
M.
Love the snug when it's nippy. Good music, great beers, nice and relaxing. Food not as good as it was pre covid.
J. H.
Best Pub in Preston hands down. Great food, superb beer selection and beautiful location. Its a proper pub, with no screens for sports, which makes it even better in my opinion.
L. C.
Great pub right next to the river ribble. Nice choice of food! lovely surroundings would recommend 👌
L. N.
Great place for summer but gets busy quick. Good range of beers and nice place to sit out. Food range has never appealed to us although we have tried it and it's been so so. Only eaten when there with others and wouldn't out of choice - a bit basic. Always seems to be something going on.
K. H.
Cracking food, ambience (both inside and out) and a lovely treat after a walk in the parks. It gets exceptionally busy on a sunny day so be prepared to wait a short while, but the quality of food does not suffer and the portions are still HUGE. Don't miss their beer and cider festivals too. Parking right by it can be a pain so use the new car park after the tennis courts
m. a.
The best restaurant quality food in preston, well cooked and beautiful presentation. Worth the wait every time. Excellent range of drinks in a lovely riverside setting under the bridge over the Ribble.
Free parking and very intimate meeting place for lunch with friends. I believe it gets much more lively in the evenings when they host a variety of events.
M. W.
Large selection of cask and bottled ales here and the layout for dining is great for medium (4-10) groups. The food selection doesn't reflect local quality and can look quite unoriginal, however the food is tasty, reasonably priced and cooked well.
P. B.
Beer garden is a real suntrap and a bit hidden from the front entrance.
Great selection of unusual and mainstream drink choices.
Although i didn't eat, a friend did and was nice and arrived quickly even though all fresh.
About 1 mile from the main highstreet,a bit less from the train station.
Recommended.
L. F.
Friendly pub. Serves good food and has brilliant live music most weeks. The beer garden is a gem when the weather is good. Just be prepared for a wait at the bar when its busy.
m. p. (. T. A.
Great venue. Been a few times now under different circumstances (low key open mic night, gig night and Sunday dinner). Polite staff, a good selection of ales and wines and a Sunday Dinner to give your good old mum & dad a run for their money! (You need only see my Sunday blog hesder for proof!)
j. t. b.
drink here regularly, lovely place. was harassed by an elderly fella with glasses and walking stick talking utter tripe ( avoid this man at ALL costs ) this man does not represent the pub though as I have heard he hasn't visited since 1994 ( that much of a pest people still talk of him! ) suppose every village has an idiot. Anyway brilliant pub, great staff, ales cannot be beaten, and a perfect stop off point if your a fan the famous guild wheel, absolute gem. If your in preston lunch here is a must.
M.
Lovely food, really good atmoshere and location. Good selection of drinks.
S. M.
One of Preston's finest establishments whether its for the extremely good food or the extensive bar. The pub regularly holds beer festivals which fill the venue to capacity. The pub often has live music and entertainment on, with some big named bands often playing.
E. A.
Such a lovely pub. The beer garden is so nice and big so you can sit on chairs or on the grass. Perfect for summer and it's right next to the park for a good walk
D. B.
Great selection of ales, very handy if you're riding the guild wheel just don't get too carried away. Lovely beer garden and there are plenty of events going on here.
P. B.
Great pub. Excellent beer selection, food always good, great location, hard to fault other than it can be a bit too busy due to it's popularity.
b. w.
Simply the best food to be had around the area
C. B.
Great venue . Great bands . Food is also amazing
D. M.
Great place for Riverside drink. Lovely garden and good food selection. Very popular so could be very busy at peak times! Also right on the guild wheel so we ride our bikes there!
D. S.
First time to this pub, went with work mates. Food was excellent and a nice pint along with it. Staff are great and the pub overall was clean and tidy, the location sits in a nice place, worth a walk around the park after lunch and a pint
A. B.
Amazing menu and staff and cherry on cake is the live music. So awesome to be back in this great venue....don't pass it by
p. g.
Lots of selection of beer, ale and wine. Food is tasty and always good quality. Beer & cider festival was great as well but tickets sell out pretty fast so book early.
P. N.
Great pint ,well earned rest whilst riding the guild wheel
J. S.
We went to the continental yesterday but we didn’t book a table so we thought we had little to no chance of getting in but we went down anyway and a girl called Alice did everything she could to find us a table even though it was packed. Thanks again Alice we had a great day!
I. P.
Friendly as ever, just like we never went away. Draught lager choice not to my my taste bit obviously suits most.
A. S.
Fantastic meal, the staff were lovely and super helpful. Would definitely recommend and I will be going again 😊
R. D.
Never been here before my friend invited me for a meal and a few beers on his birthday very nice place will be going back thanks again
T.
Great atmosphere, good service, had a whisky on the rocks single and it wasn't a pitiful amount. All in all was very enjoyable.
J. C.
Went for a couple of pints with tbe wife and son today, considering the current situation the staff were very friendly, helpful and safety conscious, we didnt have to wait long for our drinks which were well worth the price the pub was well organised for social distancing, will definitely be going again.
D. B.
Amazing place, we went for just a beer, the space it self is awesome, so well located by the river and by the park, so it's perfect for a refreshment after a sunny walk in the park.. The selection of beers it's epic, there's so much to choose from, I had a Rochefort wich tasted like heaven, the same came in a true Rochefort glass wich makes it even better. They have an amazing beer garden too. Will come back to try the food :)
M. M.
Fabulous food, very friendly staff, great range of speciality beers, wide range of entertainment. One of the best pubs/ wine bars/ eateries in Preston. An absolute gem.
A. T.
Visited during COVID pandemic.
Very well managed with orders being taken at your socially distanced table or via an app. Friendly service, although the drinks were rather slow getting to the table.
M. G.
I highly recommend the prawn sandwich with lemon mayo and a cappuccino. An added bonus they allow dogs in, so you can make a day of walking and lunch with friends. Also lovely efficient welcoming staff.
J. B.
Great drinks, top beer garden, dog friendly and also really clean :)
V. S. W.
Nice location and good food.
H. S.
Great beer and drink selection. Good pub food. Nice interior. Great beer garden. Good service. It's a bit out of the way from the center of Preston but this is a really good pub.
R. H.
Always a good atmosphere and in a great location. Some of the best nights out in Preston have been from the beer festival. Would highly recommend.
R. A.
1st visit here, but will endeavour to include on further visits to the city.
L. N.
Great pub with a large selection of drinks from beer to fresh tea leaves. Perfect on a sunny day to sit outside. The food menu has its of choice and I've never had a bad meal here
M. S.
Always a good range of beer. Outdoor seating. Food can be expensive.
N. S.
Great pub. But do your homework before going. Better to download the app to buy drinks and book a table otherwise you could be waiting quite a time to get in/served
J. G.
Outstanding. Good range of beer, service usually swift, good beer garden and conservatory areas. Good food fairly sensibly priced. They support a lot of film, music, poetry, reading etc events. Not far from Miller and Avenham Parks, by the river, very handy for cyslists / walkers on the Guild Wheel route. Drop in if you're passing.
M. W.
Excellent pint of cask ale and excellent service.
S. R.
A true gem of a pub, off the beaten track but well worth getting yourself to. An excellent selection of ales and ciders served by friendly staff in relaxed surroundings. First class.
J. P.
Great place to eat and an interesting selection of ales and lagers. Massive seating area at back, and some great entertainment. Well worth a visit! Awesome staff too ;)
F. W.
A traditional pub with an excellent range of craft beer. A really nice beer garden and really good food. There is a really diverse range of live entertainment and is situated right next to Avenham & Millar Park. Popular with dog walkers, families and locals.
E. M.
Tucked into a picturesque corner of Preston, a steam locomotive basked in red and green light lumbered by overhead as we approached The Continental at dusk... it was magical. And the pub kept that vibe going with a lovely staff, jaw dropping drink selection, and a wonderful ambience.
We attended a wonderful poetry reading chock full of talented local artists held on the last Wednesday of every month.
Highly recommended for those looking for what Preston has to offer.
M. J.
Best pub in Preston!
J. S.
Used to be 5 stars but the food wasn't up to much again. Fantastic location and beer garden. Lots of events and a grand selection of alcohol. If it's hot, then a perfect place to go.
J. J.
My local pub. Lovely beer garden, located near the park and river. The annual beer festival has a great atmosphere. Food is high quality.
M. T.
Managed to get a walk in to the beer garden last weekend and it was good food was a basic menu but good and hit the spot
N. D.
A pleasant ambience and good food together with quality beer, ensures any visitor of an interesting experience.
The staff were speedy, efficient and helpful. Altogether an enjoyable time.

C. M.
Great choice of beers both foreign and from UK. Imaginative food menu and friendly staff.
D. T.
Great place normally. Am just disappointed with the app ordering, you're better to place at least the first order personally. Waited 20 mins and app order was still not acknowledged? Table behind us ordered verbally and was served within a few mins.
N. F.
Top food, great little events and gigs, nice beer garden. Astounding range of beers. Not a 'lads pub' no football, no pool and no gamblers - and I hope it stays that way........... You could almost forget you are in Preston some days.
I. T.
The continental beer and cider festival is on this week end. Keep eye out for them always worth a visit as it scores of real ales and ciders waiting to be discovered. ( and the foods not bad either.)
D. F.
A lovely little pub just slightly outside the city centre.(only about 10 minutes walk from train station) Nice range of beers and the food is fantastic. There is a nice sized gig room at the back where we have seen a few bands.Highly recommend coming here. Its brilliant.
R. k.
Lovely place and staff, but waited nearly an hour for 3 pints. I completely understand the new service style and rules, 100% but an hour is a bit mad!
B. J.
Beer garden gets very busy, but the food's first rate. We've eaten here a few times and it's always first class. Highly recommended.
J. C.
Always very good. Been several times now for a meal and live music. Food exceptional. Service very good. Possibly the best in Preston.
Sadly, an update says not always very good. Disappointing evening for several reasons. Food ruined by excessive use of spicy sloppy topping ruining a beautiful fillet of Hake. Couscous inappropriate and simply won't stay on a fork. Worst Hake I've ever had in my life. Ruin cod or pollack if you must, but not Hake.
To top it off, was made uncomfortable about asking for a chair for a concert as I'm disabled, a rather rude and bad tempered dumped the chair at the back of the hall for me to view the backs of the jackets of people stood in front of me. Have slowly become disenchanted with going to live music at this venue because of the chair issues...now I can't trust the chef's judgement either.
WON'T BE RETURNING IN THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE.
S. C.
Great food, service and drinks. Staff helpful and polite. I had the Sunday roast, delicious, plenty of everything. The pudding was lovely, well presented. Reasonably priced.
M. J.
Me and my partner have been coming here for years, it's one of our favorite areas in Preston being next to the river and Avenham park. The drink variety is always excellent with guest ales. lagers of the world, a different shelf for each spirit variety etc. Upper standard pub food here is always a winner and the menu changes seasonally. But the best part is the beer garden with a cold Aspall cider on a summers day!
S. B.
Beer garden is great on a sunny day but the queue to the bar is very long - 20 mins or so, sometimes queuing into the conservatory. Table service or something would be good.
N. M.
Good atmosphere, good selection of drinks and great location for chilling out by the river. Food so-so, staff fantastic
a.
Watched a live band here.
Have some great guest beers on .busy place
P. R.
A tad difficult to find for out-of-towners - those responsible for the routeways of central Preston might usefully be condemned to driving them for eternity - but worth the effort. The pub's a gem & the food outstanding. Warmly recommended.
A. G.
Good pub. Menu looks good but haven't tried it. Has great bands on. Great beer selection including alcohol free.
P. M.
Good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Wide selection of beers and larger with covered seating available outdoors.
P. T.
Food is fantastic great variety of drinks including non alcoholic. Great atmosphere especially in the snug which is usually (but sadly not always) child free and has a nice log fire.
P. R.
great pub food and even better beer
S. B.
The Continental is THE best pub in Preston. There are a few selling points. The beer garden, it's location next to the River Ribble and Avenham/Miller Park, the event space but most of all the food. This is really where the Continental shines - gastro pub quality food that wouldn't be out of place in a quality restaurant. Good range of rotating beers on tap and a good pint of 'Continental' helps make any visit to this establishment special. We have held a number of family celebrations and gatherings here and we are always happy to bring friends to introduce them to our 'local' even though we live 40 minutes walk away. Always a great time to be had and with attentive and welcoming staff this is a place to visit.
K. J.
Fantastic. Social distancing at its best. Great Service. Order on the 'round' app. They've done extremely well opening up again. 10/10
P. E. P.
Enjoyed all we had. Dogs welcome too so plus.
M. U.
It's a brilliant venue and the food is usually excellent although tonight's veggie pie was disappointingly dry. Great choice of beers though. Recommended.
S. 2.
Excellent pub, great atmosphere, excellent range of ciders and ales. Didn't eat but the food looked good too, plus the staff were excellent. Well recommended.
J. T.
Went for the AC/DC Expierience, what a fantastic night, will definitely go see them again there and also will check out other events there in future. Friendly pub, good atmosphere and friendly staff......just wish they'd serve Thatcher's Gold then it would be mega lol
A. S.
Beer garden is a sun trap. Lovely staff, good range of cask ales and beers.
B. G.
Attended our monthly Welsh Group here for the first time today. A great venue, kicked off with a good light lunch and a brilliant choice of craft beers.
L. B.
Excellent food and drink
P. M.
Great pub very well laid out with friendly staff.
Great gardens to sit out and have a drink.
Really enjoyed our night 👍
P. H.
Excellent pub on the edge of Avenham and Miller parks. Have a walk around the parks then a nice pint here. Dog friendly and some really good ales on tap.
W. B.
Great selection of beers and wine, food very good and reasonable prices. Great venue for live music, lots of atmosphere and very friendly crowd.
A. L.
Lovely hidden gem, had to move away to find this place.
M. A.
Great drinks selection, music venue and spacious beer garden
S. K.
The Continental has an unrivalled location by the River Ribble, a 15 min walk from the city centre.
A gastro pub offering a wide selection of real ales and beers as well as a diverse range of entertainment from live music to literature competitions.
We mainly visit The Continental to enjoy a relaxing drink but the food is of a high standard although quite expensive.
The Continental hosts 2 beer festivals every year-in May and October and both festivals are extremely busy-in the last few years, the May festival experience has become less enjoyable due to the unbelievably busy crowds and long queues.
Unless you arrive before 7 pm expect to queue for around 30 mins just to get your beer tokens, glass and programmes. Then take your chances in the main beer hall as the crowds shove each other around to get their long awaited beer! The main bar isn't much better as non-ale drinkers try their luck there. The toilet queue winds it's way into the main bar area as you wait 10 mins to get in -and that's just the men's wash rooms!
However in an attempt to offset the delays the organisers have introduced a second tent with a more limited range of beers but less queues.
There is however en excellent work around!-if you can arrive in the afternoon however you can avoid the chaos and enjoy what is certainly one of the best ale festivals in the area; running from Thursday to Sunday up to 100 ales are available from a wide range of international breweries including interesting micro breweries as well as from the larger favourite breweries such as Thwaites. There is also a good selection of ciders, perrys and Belgian beers.
The outdoor food options include burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes as well as an excellent hog roast.
There is live entertainment throughout the festival and on a warm May evening sat outside, even sat on the large grassed areas if you can't get a seat!, you will find it an amazing experience-just make sure you get there early, have your choice of favourite ales, then slow the pace down when the crowds arrive later on!
An alternative would be to just come down on a summer's evening when the festival is not on-although be prepared for it still to be very busy!
An excellent pub in a great location but less attractive during the winter months if walking from the city centre-just too far out-perhaps the management could look at introducing a shuttle service between the city centre and the pub for a reasonable fee.
Other than that the owners also run The Ferret which is closer to the city centre and worth a visit.
There is talk of the owners opening a new Gin palace venue opening on Friargate-hopefully this will go ahead then Preston's pub and bar options really will start to look more of an attractive proposition befitting of a large city!
I. F.
Great start for a walk along river to dolphin inn.Dec.27th.2018.😎
P. R.
Great pub. Brilliant selection of Ales. Plenty of helpful staff. Pleasant atmosphere and a lovely, huge beer garden. Nice location close to Avenham Park and the River Ribble.

Best bar in Preston. A little more pricey but great selection and the food is good as well. Check out the Beer Festival which runs twice a year.
A. Y.
A lovey pub set alongside the river Ribble... we had a cheeky drink whilst on route around the Guild Wheel.. the home cider is the best I've ever had

Good selection of beer and ciders
M. H.
Great pub, right on the edge of avenham park, and by the river. Great food and huge selection of beers from around the world that you won't find anywhere else.
A. G.
Good food, good variety of beer, excellent beer garden, and dog friendly indoors, which is always a plus - especially being right next to the park, and on the Guild Wheel cycling route!
j.
Huge selection of beers, service can be a minor problem during busy times. Real comfortable sung that you can talk in. Rest of the place can get very noisy.
I. A.
Excellent pub, great choice of real ale and the food looked very good as well, great location also.

My fave place to walk to and gave a pint or 2. Dogs welcome in certain areas. Very friendly relaxing place. The food is excelle t with 5 star rating.

M. P.
A great place with fantastic beer garden looking forward to live music coming back
S. S.
The Continental is one of my favourite places in Preston! It has excellent food, a brilliant range of cleverly chosen beers, plenty of space and a great ambience.
The Continental also has a great range of different evetns! We saw a Rammstein tribute band there a few days ago which was great fun, and they've had punk bands and rock as well as a diverse range of other musical offerings.
They also host probably the finest beer festivals in Lancashire, with a huge range of really interesting beers, alongside ciders, gin and prosecco.
A. M.
Great local pub, dog friendly, great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Stunning beer garden and excellent chouce of drinks.
S. C.

Loads of outdoor tables. Deserts were superb. I thought it was a pub serving food but it's a restaurant serving beer.
M. P.
I would suggest almost bordering on
fine dining. Excellent food, good beer, great service. What more could you ask for? Thank you.
J. S.
Food and ambient were really good, but it took some time for serving. Also, great choice of beers!

The Continental feels like a bit of an upmarket, yet still cosy, local pub.
They are open to working with the local community and often allow local groups to host events for free or a small fee on quiet nights.
