Came here for a lunch with friends, the food was exceptional. I can't fault anything. The sticky chipotle chicken bites were in a sauce so yummy I had to very unceremoniously mop up afterwards! The surf and turf seemed small initially but after eating it realised it was the perfect portion! The sundae was huge and delicious!! The service was prompt, very quick and our server Laura was very welcoming, positive and friendly! I'm not a local to Reading but would definitely come back here often if I lived here! Worth a trip :)

Whist in Reading for a day out we were looking for somewhere to eat and once I saw that they had crumble on the menu , i was sold. On entering we were greeted warmly by a manager and show to a table. Diego introduced himself to us as our waiter for the evening, and found us a nice bottle of fizz ( wedding aniversary) and a very ice bottle of Pinot Noir. Through out the evening we waited on brillently with a little surprise for our wedding aniversary, food was excellent ,steaks cooked to perfection, and crumble was delicious. Big thanks to all on the night from Diego who was exceptional to the chefs who prepared the food and the KP who is always forgotten but a key part of any good resturant. Big thank you and we will be back.

Wow. We ate here for Valentine’s Day, we ordered off of the Valentine’s Day menu. There was a huge variety, even thought it was a set menu. The food was great but omg the steak was incredible. I had the wheat fed streak and it was truly amazing, the favours and textures were outstanding and it was cooked to perfection. The whole experience was fab, we didn’t wait long for food even thought it was valentines day and the service was very attentive. Will definitely be coming back.

Wonderful meal from start to finish! This is a very clean and welcoming restaurant. There was a nice festive feeling in there this evening. Our starters were served quickly and were super fresh and tasty. The main course arrived not long after and again, every bit was cooked to perfection. All the staff were friendly and eager to help. I also saw the manager handle a very aggressive customer in such a calm, professional manner-very impressive and good to see a manager take ownership of the situation like that. Overall, highly recommend. Yes in the more expensive but the quality of everything is well worth it.

This miller and carters in particular was extremely packed. The steak was aged and cooked very nicely, and the lettuce slice was super refreshing. The cocktails lacked taste and were quite watery due to the ice. The apple crumble dessert was a very big let down. The crumble on top was burnt by intention to give the smokey tastes, but it just tasted very bad. The larger cut steak was also requested to be medium rare but arrived more on the rare side. It lacked a bit of seasoning but was balanced by the peppercorn dip. The fries were lovely. Overall it was an okay experience.

Kris our waiter was amazing, very attentive and helpful. The food was great. Our steak sauces were the wrong way round when the food arrived and my wife poured hers over her fillet without checking. We asked one of the other staff to help and Kris immediately appeared and whisked the steak away to be re served almost immediately. With a replacement sauce. Could nto fault the place. Perfect.

Kris was amazing! Had sticky chicken starter which was to die for! Followed by fillet steak (medium rare) with peppercorn sauce. An issue with my sauce was dealt with quickly and easily and enjoyed every bite. The onion loaf is worth trying if you never have had it before. Will definitely go again.

Not too bad for a work Christmas party. We eat from the Christmas menu, not a large selection but good all round variety. The starter was excellent, however, my steak was cold. Very nice flavour, cooked perfectly (I like mine very rare), just stone cold but the fries were hot and the service was okay. Dessert, very bland. Overall, not a bad night out, service average, food edible, company great.

We visited on 3rd December 2021 and the ambiance was perfect. We were served by Adrian who was excellent. He listened to our questions about the menus and answered with clarity. He was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. I dropped a star rating as the christmas turkey dinner was tasty but the sprouts were like bullets. We did tell Adrian and he offered to get us another serving.

It was my Birthday weekend, my boyfriend made the booking for our dinner. We was greeted politely and our server for the evening was Mario. He was so friendly and very helpful, he had good knowledge about the wine and helped our selection. He made us feel very welcome and adhered to our needs throughout our dinner. Now onto the food, the food was perfect, good portion size we were absolutely stuffed! My boyfriend had the T-Bone served medium rare, immediately Mario offered his guidance that the steak would be more towards the rare side as it’s on the bone, my boyfriend was ok with that. I had the fillet served medium rare also, melt in the mouth tender. We didn’t wait for the food for long at all, it was honestly such a special evening for my boyfriend and myself. Mario thank you for making my birthday memorable. We will be back for sure. 18/9/20.

First time at a Miller and Carter and we were quite impressed! Our waiter Maher was fantastic, really helpful and attentative, eventhough it was busy! Our food was really tasty, we were celebrating Valentines day late this year due to our work schedule so we went for the Valentines set menu. Camembert was delicious to start followed by ribeyes which were perfectly cooled and rested. Dessert was tasty too. First time going here. Restaurant and staff all really well presented and warm welcome and quick service for a busy Saturday night, can't fault customer service. Went for the butcher's block which on the whole was very good,the fillet being the highlight. Only thing that lets it down for the price was that the ribs were very forgettable , very little BBQ taste to them. Also would be nice to have more sauce felt the portion was quite small so really had to ration it. Maybe either fill it more or after free refills if you want more. Also would prefer a salad to a big wedge of lettuce. If you love your steak though and know which type you like, really couldn't fault the quality was delicious. Would just avoid the ribs can get much much better elsewhere.

This was the first time that my wife and I have visited this restaurant - or any restaurant from the Miller & Carter chain, for that matter. We were very pleasantly surprise. Our first impression was that prices for the steaks are a bit on the high side, but when you realize how much is included the prices seem more reasonable. The quality of the food certainly justifies the prices - we are inclined to think that this is the best steak house in Reading! The ambiance is very pleasant, and the service friendly and professional. A special 'shout out' for Diego - thanks for looking after us so well! We certainly look forward to our next visit.

First time of visiting one of these restaurants and I have to say it was fantastic !!! Stayed over for our daughters graduation and took friends who hadn’t been before either. Good selection, waiter was fantastic and kept us informed all the way with times to cook etc.. knew the menu inside out. The steaks were all cooked perfectly. Great steak knives as well. Very nice and cozy place for a stake. The main course are excellent and the service is also great. Easy to find and plenty of space inside. The bar is also great with a calming atmosphere. Giving 4 stars because the shared starter was quite disappointing compared to the main course and dessert.

Birthday day wanted to eat something special, partner know I am a steak guy, and were did she take me to the Miller & Carter at the oracle river side Reading. Let me start from entering the restaurant such a nice setup, there are staff to welcome you, you need to sanitise your hand and you be taken to your table. We had Such a wonderful person to look after her name is Chole (I am not a fan calling staff waiter or waitress ) Chole made sure we had a fabulous time and helped us with what we need so kudos to Chole. Now to food no other words than just fabulous, from starter to the wonderful steak to even a windy dessert (see pictures below). I would recommend anyone to go and try Miller and Carter staff is brilliant, helpful, cheerful. Defo coming back to try out different varieties. Thank you once again. When we got here the staff were really nice and helpful, got us to our table when we got here (booked a table online, relatively busy) if not a 30 minute wait. The starters were really good as shown in the pictures (The nachos) after we were finished the staff got the steak (which is cooked whilst you have the starter), witch was really good (the steak shown is med-rare was chewy and juicy, it came with chips. I would say this is a good restaurant

The waiter proceeded to fill our glasses to the top so the bottle would end up almost empty, after this he repeatedly came over asking if we would like another bottle. Best retaurant experience I've had for a very long time! Showed up without a booking on a busy Saturday night. There was no 'Umm'ing and 'Ahh'ing, no "we could probably squeeze you in". Just a pleasant "we've got a table outside if you'd like" The service was fast, but we still had plenty of time to browse an extensive menu with plenty of variety and no fuss. None of this "order your fries separately" nonsense! all Steaks > fries > salad > done! A friend and I smashed out the butchers block - 4 delicious and perfectly cooked steaks with some truly excellent sides... That brisket stuffed bone marrow... MY GOD... with steaks that perfect, you know the sides have to be amazing to stand out and, good lord, that brisket stood out! We took our time with our food and enjoyed a lovely dessert as well, enjoying watching the bustle of Reading's riverside slip by. We were there for 2 and a half hours all told and we always felt welcome! I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. An absolute must for anyone who enjoys good food and good service. Your staff are an absolute credit to your establishment, attentive, jovial and banterous despite being in the height of what I'm sure was a very busy service. I will be back many times I am sure!

Great meal from the festive menu. Had the BBQ glazed wings for starters and carved turkey for the mains. The potatoes were absolutely amazing and the turkey was moist and full of flavour. The sprouts and stuffing were really good too. Personally I found the ginger & pear dessert too sweet but I enjoyed everything else. Customer service was excellent too and the lady who served us was really cheerful which is always great to see. Overall a great visit.

Visited Miller & Carter (Reading) on the 16th October, we were greeted with smiles and politeness from the staff at the front desk, they asked me my surname which we had a bit of a giggle about. Our table wasn’t ready so we were showed to the bar to have a drink whilst we wait, we didn’t have to wait long and we’re showed to the table. The staff were fantastic and the steak was absolutely cooked to perfection, the waitress made sure we had everything that we needed for a nice evening. Now my only downside was we felt we were rushed to eat and leave, I had finished the food on my plate and was still chewing the last bit of steak when the waitress came along took the plates and asked if we wanted dessert. I asked the waitress if she could come back as I’ve not even finished my mouthful of food, she said yeah sure then literally about 2mins later she came back and said would you like dessert? Now we were going to have dessert but as I felt we were being rushed we decided to leave it, drink our drinks and move on. The meal itself was delicious 😋 so wasn’t a complete disaster!!

Went in for a birthday celebration. Service was great, and was fantastic to see the place busy but able to still fulfill all of the COVID safety measures! Our waitress, Chloe, was incredibly helpful and a pleasure to chat with, providing recommendations that were 100% spot on. Pictures show the Halloumi fries (most likely the best I've ever had), and the Chateaubriand 16oz steak (beef dripping sauce and the porcini mushroom & black garlic sauce) was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Shall definitely be coming back, and has earned this 5 star review with ease. Special thanks to Chloe for making the evening enjoyable and stress-free for my girlfriend.

I work for the same company (Mitchells and Butlers) but for a different brand (Harvester: Mansion House). Firstly I would like to thank Marco for his amazing service. I've been served by him a few times whilst dining at Miller and Carter. Marco is a true asset, he's very funny, charming and attentive. I always enjoy having him as my waitor. Secondly I would like to thank Laura as she also is a true asset. I've only been served by her the one time but she was ever so lovely and kind. She has a great smile and goes the extra mile to keep her guests happy.

Delicious steaks. I had a medium rare 50 days aged black angus sirloin and that was a delicious meat. First of all, praises to those who perfectly cooked the medium rare, was exactly as it should be. In addition, such simple things as the fries and the meat sides were delicious too and very nicely served. Only thing I would improve is the lettuce in an uncomfortable plate to cut it into and eat it. I would go with normal green salad with a nice dressing or at least cut the lettuce in smaller parts that could make it easier to be eaten. Though who cares about a salad, when the meat is that nice :)

The food is tasty and their quantity are big enough that if you have a starter you will struggle with the main . This place does get busy so best thing to do is book a table . In all honesty found the experience underwhelming. Had heard of the franchise and was looking forward to the experience. Firstly I was left with a bad taste in my mouth due to the rudeness of the staff on the phone when I need to change my booking; giving plenty of notice also mind you. I ordered the pesto crusted sea bass; the food took an eternity to arrive. When it did arrive the peas in the accompaniment were raw. All in all I wouldn’t race back.

Pluses: great venue for a meal; relaxed and comfortable, nice atmosphere, easy and hassle free to get to (just by the car park lifts). Service was great: one of our group was both lactose and. gluten intolerant, and I'm not a meat eater, but the waitress and kitchen went through every possible step they could have. Minuses: the food was ok but not great. I had fish and chips, not exactly memorable and the fish was slightly overdone. The others in our group had a mixed experience: burgers were good but steak was meh. Best thing on the menu turned out to be the mac and cheese and halloumi fries, both were quite tasty. Would go again as its pleasant enough, and the staff are great, but for that rather than the quality of the food. On a further note, we sat inside because we noticed people outside waving their hands for service: we were served promptly inside but I guess if uou decide to eat outside allow for longer service times.

Takeaway nightmare through Deliveroo : 1. half cooked steak 2. no steak sauce provided 3. Onion loaf provided was half its usual size and broken in pieces 4. No parsley butter too I can’t even raise a concern through Deliveroo , as it’s not an item missing but it isn’t a full dish either . Tried calling the restaurant twice, but it went straight to voicemail each time. Other items were just fine and nothing extraordinary. Waste of money and a disappointing Saturday dinner with the family. *Editing review based on callback the following day* : Got a call from the restaurant management , and they were quite receptive to the feedback and also helped me understand how things are not under their control at all times and the fact that the delivery could have been impacted by multiple logistical factors too. I will bump up the review by 3 stars to reflect the accountability shown by the restaurant and the partial refund that was processed , however as the steak sauce is an integral part of the dish I will still be holding 1 star back & I look forward to a 5 star experience in future.

This is because we had allergies and a special diet and Adrian was spot on. Quite busy when we dropped in without a reservation mid-week but they sat us at a table straight away. Staff made sure both myself and my dinning partner checked in on the NHS Covid app and even had a print out with the instructions including their QR code as I didn't have the app on my phone so I was able to follow the instructions at our table. Our waitress was super friendly and took dealing with my fussy companion's dietary requirements in her stride. We both ordered the filet steak experience and our steaks were cooked exactly to our liking and arrived very fast. The cocktail list isn't extensive but the Cosmo's I had wwre excellent and we were able to also order a simple gin and tonic off menu. I didn't have a dessert but companion had the cookie and ice cream option and the sample I tried was delightful with the vanilla ice cream being of very premium quality. Overall a lovely dining experience in a upscale restaurant which is expensive but a luxurious treat which is good value for money. If you're in the market for a good quality steak in Reading Miller & Carter are worthy of business.

Lunch menu is also fantastic value! ***UPDATE*** Visited M&C again today, booked a table at 6.30 which seemed a good time to go as nice and quiet (picked up a little at 7 but confident in their social distancing policies). Even though a reduced menu the food was amazing as always, the banoffee pie is a must and the lighter option of a wedge salad with a steak is still a more than a generous amount. We were also pleased to have Diego serve us yet again - his customer service skills are outstanding and one of the reasons we keep returning!! Thank you to the whole team for a fantastic return without compromise of service or food! Already booked our next visit.

Amazing food! Fillet steak was expertly cooked. Served with amazing trimmings choices of sauces and salad leaves dressing. Chips were delicious. Portions were perfect!!! Big ones so your stuffed but dont waste any on your plate. I had mo starter. But mac and cheese side I shared half with others. I was told the red wine was also very decent. My Adams bottle beer was nice. Dessert was the sharing board. Out of all 3 we loved strawberry sorbet the most. The service was extremely good, friendly and quick enough even though I saw 2 other very large parties of nearly 20 people. Price is high but means you get fabulous food and dining experience was sat in a small cornered off room which was very nice indeed. I will be looking out for these restaurants when ever I can. Miller & Carter in Reading is such a great place for a meal out. Its our "go-to" place for celebrations. This time it was our 26th wedding anniversary. The meal was fab, I had fillet steak with the light option which meant I had a side salad instead of chips (first time ever!) and it was so tasty. I went for the beef dripping sauce on the steak which was like a really fab gravy (I do love my gravy). Big shout out to our host Pati, she was the right amount of attentive without being in our faces. Plus, the evening was made even more special when Pati arranged for a lovely dessert with Happy Anniversary on the plate, lovely touch. Thank you, we will be back. Oh and all the special rules were observed without anyone feeling awkward - it's nice to get back to a "new normal".

Come here for really fantastic steak. I always forget how much I love the steaks here until I go back! The medium ribeye was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The fries were very tasty and the beef dripping sauce was an extremely delicious surprise. Wine selection is good and sides offer some good choices. I had the 16oz Aged Rib Eye, which was served medium, as requested. A very nice steak, no doubt, but I've had better. Sides were nice, but they should do something about the 'default' fries that come with the steaks. They look and taste like they came out of a freezer bag, and a bad quality one at that. They may beg to differ, or maybe agree - I don't care. All I can say, with assuredness, is that much nicer fries are available from the freezer department in your local supermarket. They offer substitutes, at a small premium, but that is not the point. Bottom line - I expect a good Steakhouse like this to serve proper french fries with their steaks. Anything else is cheap, sloppy, and unbecoming. Attention to detail, people. Please.

Overall the dining experience was ok. The serving staff were polite and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant appeared clean and well kept. The food was a mixed result unfortunately. The starter of garlic bread with cheese was disappointing as it appeared to have been a brief introduction between the dish and the oven. The cheese was still in the in-between stage of melted and unmelted cheese aka cheese mush. The bread was still cold on the bottom and a mere hint of a toasting on top. The mains of rib-eye with the loaded fries was a mixture of a nice juicy medium steak and luke warm fries that had lost their crispiness due to being held too long for the steak to be ready. Overall I would say on this visit it was not exactly value for money. I came away full having enjoyed the one thing I went for (The rib-eye) the peripheral parts let the whole experience down. I will give it another shot one day in the interest of fairness 😉

I leave 3 stars but I think 2. I know times are hard so I am moderate in my reviews. M&C looks classy. Prices are on the high end for the area. So the bar is placed high. As a customer, I had high expectations when I walked in. My guest asked to see the cut before it's cooked. The waited refused. In such places, if the customer wants to see the meat before it's cooked, it's his right. There is not reason to refuse unless you don't want to play the game and refuse the challenge. The meat was average. Nothing memorable and nothing to justify the price. I wish them well, but I won't go back myself.

The food is a carnivores dream! The steaks are cooked very well, I recommend getting a side of Ribs too. There is a good choice of cocktails and beers. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the waiting times on a table can be very long, we have waited over 90 minutes to be seated before. You can wait at the bar which is also acceptable. The food can take a while when busy but never takes too long. Overall, I would definitely recommend visiting. A good meal for a couple will cost around £50-60.

Having watched the guy at the desk greet other customers, he clearly took pleasure from upsetting people and being un-helpful. GREAT steaks!!! -but... Oh the Steakhouse...I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I have eaten here many times so let me explain why they keep getting my money. I *love* the food and I hate everything else. If you love steak, this place does excellent steak! However, the services is consistantly sluggish, there seems to be plenty of staff but they're just disorganised or inefficient, inexperienced probably. On occasion I have had dirty wine glasses or not recieving a steak knife. Several times I've had to wait more than 15 minutes for drinks, that's a massive fail for any place that has a £22 steak on the menu. Food takes a bit longer to arrive than drinks... But when the food arrives, the very idea makes me salivate. This could be a really great place to eat in, it just needs quicker service times and more attentful/experienced staff. I have been a regular for quite some time and every visit the experience was a little bit better. Glasses are clean, service is faster and even the food arrives sooner. On the basis of the regular and consistent improvement I'm changing my score from 3 to 4 stars - well done!

Great start table ready 30mins early, good food and service except for 2 things. I met a waitress leaving the ladies customer toilet with her apron on (basic food hygiene commands waiting staff and chefs should remove aprons when using the toilet), do you not have a staff toilet? Secondly a young male food runner bumped the back of my chair on more than 2 occasions - sorry "Oyster theory" and therefore left me feeling a bit disgruntled. Steak here is very high quality and cooked to perfection, although seriously let down with the sides. This was my salad an iceberg lettuce quartered with foul tasting sauce smothered over the top. Really? What a shame. Well done with the steak tho guys. Reply to response below: I appreciate they ar not salads per se but surely they could be presented better than a quartered lettuce in a bowl it looks lazy and odd even if you do dress it up with a name like "lettuce wedge" lol I should said something about the sauce but I was in a rush as has the cinema booked, steak was amazing tho.

Me and my wife come for my birthday and it was amazing the best Miller & Carter we've been too. Very welcoming and Will was a very professional very friendly.

The good bit first - booked a table and was seated upon arrival. Waiter (Rosalia) was friendly and attentive helps when one of your friends is from the same country. This went downhill from there onward. Firstly I ordered a Grass Fed Rib Eye steak with mash and lettuce. Lettuce was fresh and crunchy. Mash was hot but not buttery nor seasoned with pepper. The worst bit was the steak - order was for medium. I got it lukewarm, rare and salty. Even more importantly it was grizzly. For £27 this was exceptionally poor value. I asked my friends afterwards and they said theirs were a touch tough, both had sirloin. I phoned and left a message and was called back. The response was we can't do anything now as you did not complaint then. They sell thousands of steak each week but they do not check the quality from their supplier. As a former food operator this is not an acceptable answer. I also mentioned that the steaks from Lidl was better. The reply was Lidl's steak is not greatest of quality so what does it imply? Theirs was worst in my eyes and that makes their total rubbish then? All in all a very poor experience and money not well spent.

Came here for Christmas so my experience might be slightly tainted by the holidays, but this restaurant has not lived up to the glowing reviews. The food was very average, the price was slightly too high, and the staff clearly had other things on their mind. I came as part of a big group and several items were forgotten from our order. I won't be coming back during a busy period, however I'm still keen to try some of the other items on the menu.

I was told it was an off night by the couple we went with. But it did not have the air of a quality restaurant, just seemed to me to be another bulk standard place with average food and acceptable surroundings. Staff were very nice but as the food was the main reason for going I give it a 3 star.
