M. H.A great place to eat, drink and have sumptuous meals, especially steaks. The staffs are extremely pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. The service is fast and meal served at the right temperature.
There’s outdoor seating and great ambience in the summer months. The pub is dog friendly and there’s ample parking space at this rural location.

l.Awesome chicken roast, the rest at the table raved about the steak, great sourdough bread starter, and the sides we enjoyed were the Mac & cheese & creamed spinach. Wasn't a huge fan of the hash side.
The sticky toffee pudding was the big pudding winner; I was disappointed in the plum crumble (too liquidy and not crumbled enough).

We were meet as soon as we walked in by manager who was really friendly and genuinely excited to be welcoming guests again. The garden looks great, there were heaters and we noticed plenty of blankets for when the temp drops. The waiting staff were equally great but it was the Roast Beef that was the star of the day! Perfectly cooked and utterly delicious. We cant wait to go back again. Thanks to all the team - its great to be back!
W. S.A lovely, modern but quaint, little gastro pub with outdoor dining. It was our first venture out post lockdown, and with a 1 month old at that. The staff were all fantastic, very attentive and caring. When we arrived they (without prompting) gave us a table with a bit more privacy and in a quiet area for the little one with space to leave the pram.
The menu is simple but delicious. We highly recommend their smoked salmon starter. There really is only one (logical) choice of main and that's the steak. Various cuts available with some priced by weight. Our steaks were cooked just how we liked them and the sauces available were delicious (we had the peppercorn sauce and the red wine and bone marrow sauce). There was only one dessert that caught our eye on the menu and this was the Chocolate and Bailey's Delice. We were glad we shared this between us as it was huge. It was amazing and a perfect dish to finish off the meal. We'll definitely be coming back again soon.
H.Lunchtime visit during easing of COVID restrictions. All the staff really pleased to see customers and lovely positive vibe. The outside seating area has been done really well too. The starters we had were delicious, steak tartare and shortrib croquette. We had steak with bearnaise sauce and the steak flatbread, both beautifully cooked. The triple cooked chips were amazing and you could smell the truffle in the dauphinois before you even tried it, yum! Enjoy your visit, we did!

It’s best of both worlds really- the laid back cosy ambience of a pub and the style, presentation and menu of a higher end restaurant.
Good range of non alcoholic beer for my partner. As a veggie, the choices are a little bit limited. I had a rarebreed salad which I felt could have had one more element to make it ‘wow’. Pomegranate seeds perhaps or a slightly yummier dressing.
Truly delicious side of mac and cheese! One of the best I’ve had. Flatbreads with sweet potato hummus spot on too.
We would be back in a flash if there were one or two more inspiring veggie options. Roasted cauliflower sounds nice (the other veggie option) but something I would opt for dinner as it’s a full sized main and a little more expensive at £17.50.
Overall great food and an even greater experience- we will be back!

A. S.Went here for sunday lunch after recommendation from friend and was very impressed. It's an old building with a big new extension on the back. It's bright and airy, a little too bright for my taste, but not unpleasant
Good range of food and wine, with some specials. I had the steak tartare which was excellent, don't know where they got those capers from, but they were delicious. Had the hake for main course, which was also excellent, the Jerusalem artichokes were perfect cooked and tasty, gave me wind for the rest of the day, but they were worth it.
Service was also friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was very good and all of the staff were superb; a mention has to go to Declan who explained the menu/drinks to us and answered any questions we had.

d. h.Great ambience and friendly and efficient service. We ordered steaks and burgers and wine. Food was delicious and good quality meat, all well presented. I would rate as five 5 stars but the price was too high! Steaks are priced per 100g. An average sized shared chateaubriand came to over £60. The wine prices were also very high, approx £10 per glass and nice but not special red and white wine over £30 per bottle.

Both the mains (steak) and the starters were really well prepared. Veg sides were innovative and very tasty and portion size was good. I would have liked a pint of the red wine and bone marrow sauce.
They were also very on-the-ball about my dietary restriction (coeliac, so gluten-free). Will visit again soon.

The reception was very warm and welcoming and it set the tone for our visit Each member of staff was really sociable; charming and professional at the same time. L. C.It’s not often I post a restaurant review but after our meal which we collected, it deserved one. Our Sunday meal was absolutely wonderful we couldn’t fault it. For mains we chose the Roast Beef with all the trimmings, the portions were generous but more importantly it was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be planning another delivery and also look forward to eating within the restaurant when it re opens.

H.I went with some friends on Sunday and had the pork belly roast which was amazing! Everything about the meal was spot on...the beef dripping potatoes were perfectly cooked and the gravy was just right. The restaurant interior felt classy but NOT pretentious and made it a relaxing place to enjoy your Sunday lunch. The staff were very helpful and attentive, definitely going back again for food and drinks!

A. D.What with the Covid situation we were unfortunate enough to have our wedding postponed. We decided that we should mark the occasion with a night out with some good food and didn't hesitate in booking in at the Shurlock Inn. It was the first time we had been out for ~6months so we were a bit anxious but the staff were excellent. The menu was just as high quality and good choice as always (albeit with a couple of odd absences due to imposed restrictions - you can sit at a table with people but a "sharing" food heavens no! - all of this is very much out of the restaurants control).
The staff were attentive, whilst also respecting of distance, the food was superb! and we had an excellent time, feeling that we had marked the date in the best possible way. I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough, just book and thank me later....

A. B.Absolutely fantastic! We went for the Sunday roast during a busy lunch period (2:30pm) so service was a little slow, but well worth the wait. Staff were friendly regardless of being under pressure by how busy it all was. The roast for two is phenomenal: the portion size is very decent, the beef is out of this world and the chicken and pork belly are delicious too. The vegetables are fresh and melt in your mouth. Desserts are also wonderful. They also had Siren Craft Undercurrent on tap at the time of our visit - great beer. Yes, a little bit expensive, but worth every penny. Thoroughly recommend it!
A. K.Easter Sunday I ordered lamb and pork belly roast. It was nicely packed in separate containers, but my lamb was lacking the crunchiness of the fat and was raw in the middle. Small portions for the price £14/ portion. Used to be an excellent inn but reduced to be a low end quality pub. There are a few pubs that deliver much higher quality with lower price, however I keep the names to myself.

This was a great find for me. Having lived in the area for a few years now I was not aware this little gem existed. It is an old pub that has been updated with a contemporary room a large bar and open kitchen. They buy in beef (rare breed) by the side and butcher and age it themselves thus ensuring the best possible quality and flavour. This is not just a place for Steak eaters, they have a balanced menu with options for most tastes. It is a concise menu ensuring that ingredients are always fresh and of optimum quality. The steaks are excellent and come out cooked just as you ordered. It is not easy to find a place that cooks a good steak these days but the Sherlock excels. The steaks come with roasted garlic (which is delicious and sweet) a sauce of your choice and quality chips. There is a good selection of sides for those who want something green on the plate. They also have a good selection of cocktails which are well made and very tasty. The wine list is also very reasonable with good choices. I would highly recommend a visit to this place for your red meat fix. Apparently they also do a great Sunday roast which I am yet to try but am looking forward to immensely.

S. S.This was our second trip to the Shurlock Inn. The pub is so welcoming from the outside and once you step inside, it's a cosy place to be on a chilly night. We were seated quickly and our lovely waitress Emily gave us menus and some water for the table. The restaurant was packed but Emily was everywhere, making sure every table had what they needed. She is a credit to the Shurlock Inn, friendly, efficient, but never intrusive. We started with the hummus, flatbread and chorizo. The hummus was bland and lacked flavour and was the only disappointment of the night. The fillet steaks and the burger on the other hand, were delicious and perfectly cooked. Chips and sides were lovely. Good drinks list and I had a lovely chocolate mousseline dessert served with malted ice-cream and chocolate soil. A great evening was had by all and we will return.

B. N.Pleasantly surprised. Have been wanting to visit this place for a while . Although apparently it's a steak haven I had the best meal choices of the evening as a vegetarian. The Apple as parsnips soup and the chestnut cream gnocchi were both fabulous. My partner's choices were equally (more according to him)pleasing. Although the carrot and goats cheese starter we judge it a bit overpriced it was second to none in flavour. He was very happy with his wagu burger too. I loved the ambience and decor and service was spot on. We particularly loved the cutlery and crockery, which really caught our eyes. Very good wine and beer selection and the puddings are classics with a twist. An all round great evening out.

E. R.Incredible ribye steak here! Good atmosphere, the renovation on the place to what it used to be like has really lifted the whole feel of it, I really like the open kitchen. Staff are always polite and for a little tuckaway they make fairly decent cocktails! I recommend. Only thing I will say is I wouldn't come here if you're vegetarian/vegan. Meat, meat and more meat (which is a complete win in my books!) Slightly on the expensive side but ideal for a date night.

The meal was amazing! Very fresh and very tasty.
I was able to see the food being cooked from where I was sat and could see how passionate the chefs were preparing and cooking the food.
Would highly recommend eating here or even going in for a drink a lovely atmosphere.
We will definitely be returning in the near future.

C.Superb! Rarely does both food and service surpass expectation. This place delivers in excess. Josh greeted us, and immediately made friends with our four year old son Jack by getting colouring books etc, so refreshing to be welcomed with small children. The service was top notch with plenty of advice when choosing from the menus for both food and drink. Food was astonishingly good and delivered to the table without delay (even the children nuggets were fab). When leaving I had to pass on our thanks to Tom the manager. If you fancy excellent food combined with first class service and a friendly atmosphere then this is an absolute must visit establishment!! Keep up the good work and we will return in force soon!

Oh dear how things change. Since the change of ownership and subsequent extension and building alterations we have stopped going. If there was ever an example of how to destroy the character of a pub then look no further. Such a shame.
