Delicious mouth watering north Indian food starter/main course. Highly recommended. Ample car park. 12% discretionary service charge added to the bill. It would be good to leave it to customer to give as much tip as they would like to pass on, as already added service charge give false feeling to actual food bill.

Had a dinner table booked with a large party. We were slightly louder than we ought to have been. But the staff was very accomodating. They made sure our needs and wants were sorted promptly. The food was decent, as were the drinks and desert. Decent selection of both veg and non veg made sure everyone was happy. The place seemed to cater a variety of party types and sizes. From families to friends out for a night out. So all in all a great local haunt. Ample parking and conveniently located in a quiet place.
Would certainly visit again.

We hosted our sons birthday party here and it was great place in all aspects. Food was amazing and all the guests loved it. The party was initially planned to be outdoors and due to weather conditions we had to arrange it inside the restaurant and they were really accommodating last minute.
We always order takeaways from Six bells and food is always authentic.
Definitely recommended for medium(40-60) sized party

What a find, a local place with great tasting food and great service to boot. Went at lunchtime. Not too busy and food came out quickly and was piping hot.
Taste was great. Party of 6, 4 vegetarians and 2 non-veges. All were pleased with the food. Would definitely go again.

Our favourite Indian restaurant in Reading. Great food, ambience, ample parking and speedy service. The prices are very competitive. They also have an app for booking table or ordering takeaway.
T. W.
We had a lovely meal in here. They didn't try to rush the food out between courses. It's always tasty drinks are fairly priced will definitely be returning

Had a gathering today for 11 people. We ordered 3 large mixed grills, 2 vegetarian mixed grills, extra sides of fish amritsari, grilled chicken tikka, 5 butter naans, 5 bottles of red wine and around 6 other alcohol beverages. The food was amazing. No complaints from any of us, bill was very reasonable, worked out to about £25 per person and everyone was satisfied. Great staff, attended to us straight away. Will be returning regularly!

We were recommended by a friend to come here. It's been a good few years since I have last been. My, what a difference new management can make. Great menu selection of both English and Indian food. Friendly staff, great decor. We managed to go saturday at midday, the place was very quiet which was great too. Highly recommended... give it a try...

Vegiterian Starters were good. Tried mohito which is good. Naan and veg curries are good. Veg biryani has some flavour like safron which is not good. Ask the staff when you order biryani to avoid any such flavours, but other than this it was nice experience with tasty food that is served fast.

Green King pub which is now an Indian restaurant - been twice now and it gets very busy so good to book.
First time was with an Indian friend and second time was with the in-laws - they all loved it and vowed to go back again
O. S.
Wonderful Indian food! We are so lucky to live locally, but the food is worth traveling for. Chicken tikka masala to die for.

The Six Bells pub restaurant serve a good selection of drinks and excellent Indian an British meals, from ham, eggs and chips to a balti. Delicious food served at lunch and evening or if you prefer phone and collect for a 10% reduction
We had a superb meal served by a delightful lady who explained the dishes to us, it was our first time eating Indian food in a restaurant. Yes I know what have been eating for the last 70 years. I can assure you we will eat at The Six Bells again very soon.
My wife had that Indian favourite ham, eggs and chips and I had the Lamb Marsala and rice, mine came with sauces and poppadoms, delicious.
A. B.
We have been to this restaurant many times and food is always good ,the only thing that puts you off from coming here is the attitude and behaviour of one of the owner of the restaurant. He lacks the hospitality.
K.
First time in since it was taken over, food was impressive and full of flavour. Definitely rate the chicken Korma & onion bhaji. Naan bread was light and delicious also. Kids menu was a great help with the usual kids favourites
A. B.
Love this place. Good food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. The guys here take a lot of pride in their food, and it shows. Cleanliness of the facilities also to a super high standard
C. Y.
First time at The Six Bells, A warm welcome and delicious hot food. We will certainly be coming back to try the authentic Indian menu.

CHEAP AND CHEERFUL, FANTASTIC SERVICE
You get a lot for your money here. I had the curry, £7.99 with all the trimmings, even chips!!! We also had chicken and waffles, delicious! Very impressed with food quality, and such a good price.
I'll be returning
J. C.
Lots of sauce and comparatively little meat. Good taste. Excellent service. Bit expensive.
D. A.
Great food - lovely staff - brought out lollies for the kids whilst they were playing in the park
B. G.
Surprised with this hidden gem of a restaurant.
Great food and great prices.
Compliments to the chef and the ever-smiling staff who took good care of our group
Highly recommend
V. S.
This is a great pub to come to. Predominantly North Indian food and very good collection of beers and ales. The staff is friendly and helpful.
D. A.
Very nice food, average price for a curry house as 3 of us with 3 course meal with 2 drinks each cost £104, would definitely recommend.
p.
Been here to eat a number of times, never disappointed! Great, really tasty Indian food with great service. Worth going out of your way for
O. C.
Fantastic place for an authentic curry in a pub atmosphere. Honestly, the food was spot on and genuinely shocked me, I wasnt expecting that quality. Probably because the establishment used to be a hungry horse
H. S.
We have had several takeaways from the Six Bells and every time the food has been absolutely fabulous. So fresh, tasty and authentic, and perfect potion sizes, I cannot fault it all. Amazing selection of vegetarian curries and sides. My absolute fave Indian takeaway right now!
T. A.
Another great meal, excellent service with perfect portion sizes.
D.
ate there on 3/12/2021...thoroughly enjoyed. Prompt service, and attended,. A little pricey for 2 , but you pay for what you get..
will def go there again,...but will be a special treat , rather than a regular...
G. B.
The food was well presented and arrived in time. It was flavourful and not overly spiced or salty. Portions are a bit small but quite filling. High standard of quality of food. Appeared to be fresh and not canned. The markup is quite high though hence one less star. For the equivalent in a popular part of London you could net 3-4 meals for the equivalent £60 spent. Will keep in mind for special occasions.
C. P.
Pub with north Indian food. Calm place to hang. Having outdoor seating area is with nice view. Staff is friendly and nice.
J. N.
Indian food is nice. Place sre quiet that can chat well
U. P.
Love family pub with Indian dining.
D. F.
Really excellent Indian food. Dhall makhani was incredible
H. S.
Very nice food, ambience and friendly staff. Been there couple of time and both the time have enjoyed our family time at this pub & restaurant.
d. h.
The curries served in the Six Bells were excellent. Our Party of 7 enjoyed shared mixed Tandoori starter platters which were succulent and really tasty, chicken, lamb, and sheekh kebabs. Main courses followed of lamb, chicken And prawn curries with rice and Naan breads. All excellent! Service friendly and attentive. A very good all round experience!
K. R.
We discovered this fab pub serving Indian food more by accident. Without question the vegetarian dishes are the best we have had in the Reading area, wide choice and also includes some uncommon menu items outside of London.
Beer garden is spacious, wide variety of beers, and friendly service. The food is delicious and portions are good. Nice location too.
I'd recommend it!
r. j.
English Pub with great selection of Indian food and a play area for the kids - Hattrick !! Veg platter was very well crafted and the mains were good as well. Lots of outdoor seating and good service. I'll be back !!
R. R.
Still a traditional local pub as it's always been but with the added benefit of great Indian food.
B. M.
Not my local.......The place is empty, 15 mins to get served at the bar, only one person serving behind bar. Also have run out of loads of items on the menu.....very bad show I'm afraid.
UPDATE: This earlier review was BEFORE it became the great North Indian food and pub restaurant that it is today. You'll be hard pushed to find better North Indian food and the staff are great. I have now upgraded my review to a well deserved 5 stars.
M. T.
Me and my friend attended last night, its the first time I've attended there, and definitely will not be the last.
Its the best Indian food ive tasted fresh, tasty and presented so well,
We were served by Simren who was so polite and helpful great service.
But a special mention to Sam, he made us feel so welcome and he came over and spent 10 mins chatting to us, and nothing was to much trouble.
Thanks Sam see you again soon Malc and Matthew

Since we moved in three mile cross (8 months ago) have been there more then 30 times, the food it’s absolutely delicious!!! In the last period we collected the food and the service still wonderful!
I truly recommend this pub 🙌🏻
P. R.
Good food, great service, family friendly, outside play area - could be a good place to meet and catchup with friends and family
G. N.
Food is good. Friendly service. Very well kept pub. I like that you can order online for deliver and collection.

Now refreshed as a gastropub specialising in North Indian food, this was a wonderful meal out. The food is all freshly cooked with nothing frozen, and it shows. The fried items like samosas and bhajis are crispy without being greasy, and the curries are divine. Upon ordering, we received poppadoms with homemade dips (the mint has a surprising kick). Service was brilliant; because it's a new restaurant they are still low on staff, but Sachin was excellent and happy to explain dishes to us. This was the overhaul the Six Bells needed, with quality prioritised in both food and service, so definitely check it out if you're in the mood for delicious food.
Pictured: Mixed Vegetarian Platter (with onion bhajis, vegetable samosas, pakoras, tikka paneer, and mogo chips), Chicken Tikka Masala, Kahari Chicken, Pilau Rice, and Peshwari Naan (absolutely divine)
C. M.
Amazing food. The wife and I popped in here whilst considering the purchase of a caravan thinking that a spot of food would aid the thought process.
I can't comment on the English options but the Indian was fantastic, best I have had in quiet some time.
The staff were amazing as well. So if you like Indian food and a pleasant atmosphere to have it in this is the place for you.
Well recommended
A. P.
Went here today for a meal with my husband and small children. My husband had a chicken jalfrezi which smelled and tasted amazing! My steak was over cooked but the owner insisted on making me a new one. It came out as a whole new full meal, was perfectly cooked and it was delicious. The service was excellent and my children loved the play park. Will definitely be visiting again
L. K.
We have just moved house up the road to them so tried their indian food.....and wow....this is one of the best indian takeaways in reading. Beats Miahs hands down!
A. D.
Have been here six times since the change in management and each time the food has been amazing. Today was no different. There is a lot of variety for vegetarians and they ask how spicy you'd like the food so there are no surprises. The portion sizes are decent and the service is attentive. We will be coming back soon.
K. T.
Tastiest curry I've had for quite some time ... and very friendly staff.
We went for a meal to celebrate my husband's birthday. It certainly warrants a positive four stars, because the starters and main courses were absolutely delicious - fresh, flavoursome and quite the nicest I've had in ages.
Down sides - the service was a little slow at the start, and the poppadoms were rather lacking, coming out in pieces and not quite enough for six of us. They also only brought out one small plate of sauces.
However, the rest of the food was wonderful; hot, brought quickly and so tasty. I would certainly go back, and I highly recommend it.
S. M.
A family friendly pub with an outdoor play area and plenty of kids inside. The North Indian food is really good (they also have an English menu but didn't try it). Baby change is in the disabled loo (my husband used it). Will happily go back and enjoy the beer garden in summer.
D. M.
Went there Monday evening and it was very quiet but wow the food was amazing! Seriously the tastiest Indian meal we've had in a long time. Every course was beautiful. The staff were very nice and helpful also had a lovely chat with the owner who was very knowledgable and friendly. We will definitely be back! Thank you
A. K.
The place is expensive for the quality we get here.. we ordered fish Amritsari which had no taste at all and the desserts were all frozen with ice accumulated.. so strictly ok for a pint and mains only
E. P.
My only complaint would have been a bigger pot of gravy for my meal!
A. W.
Incredible food! I cannot believe we've didn't know this place existed. Absolutely worth a visit if you appreciate exceptionally cooked Northern Indian cuisine.
S. M.
Love this place. It's right between work and our house. It serves the perfect food and environment for a great and fun dinning experience.
M. G.
Gorgeous place. Proper authentic Punjabi food. Excellent and quick service with very friendly staff. Great place for kids. Highly recommended.
J. R.
Very good food. Staff very helpful. Loo's were clean but could have do with a lick of paint
K. Z.
No complaints about the food...good quality, however we did have a bad morning...we think it was the onion bhaji (process of elimination).
Constructive criticism: We don't agree with the 12% service charge for small numbers of people (2-4 people). On busy nights you give more attention to the larger tables and forget the smaller ones. Please consider only apply a charge to tables with 6+ people.
4* seems fair to us
G. G.
Starters are nice but food is generally over priced for what you get in return
r. j.
Quick tasty..value for money
D.
Portion sizes are generous and food quality was very good. Chicken tikka was excellent and it was big enough for a main even though it's under starters. Definately worth a visit if you like proper authentic Indian food. Will be back!
R. S.
Ive ordered from here a few times now and this is the best indian ive had in a long time! Chicken - tender, rice - delicate, poppadums - fresh and (my favorite) cheesy naan - beautiful! My opinion of this place is very high
J. S.
We've eaten here twice now - both at the pub and as a takeaway option. Food has been consistently good with a lot of vegetarian options beyond the usual saag paneer! The food tastes fresh and full of flavour and spices.
The new management team are polite and helpful, it seems this is their first pub/restaurant venture and I think they are still learning and perhaps have a little work to do - despite this the food is enough to keep bringing us back in the meantime!
B. H.
Great food , lovely people , clean, always made welcome will be returning to try some more of the menu, well worth five stars
S. L.
They serve mainly Curry's which are lovely but a bit more expensive than the local Indian restaurant. They do a small basic English menu. The place is clean and tidy. The curry menu could have a indication of how hot the Curry's are.
J. H.
Good value food, but bar service poor. Watched 3 families walk out due to the long wait to order. When I mentioned it to the bar man I got rudely told it wasn't his fault!
K. M.
Always good food and great prices. Staff always helpful and very friendly and polite
A. S.
Food was good,service was good.
Let down by messy tables and unusable toilets
R. B. B.
Very good. About time we had a place like this in Reading.
We were supposed to go and eat at the restaurant on Saturday but due to too many drinks at home. We got comfortable and decided to order a take. Away from there
Think we ordered nearly everything.
Food was yummy.
P. Y.
Great North india food. Finallly someone serves karahi chicken without sugar 😀😀.. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to try authentic North indian food. Great service as well Mr. Sachin..
A. C.
Chidren's play area reopened months ago, overall very happy with both food and service; Generally a good experience
v. b.
Not bad food, good price. Nice location. Felt abit unprofessional with the off duty staff's drunken and inappropriate behavior in this FAMILY Pub. Including one that looked like a manager. Otherwise would have been a very nice experience.
H. W.
Fairly priced and decent authentic Indian. Little bit out of the way but with delicious curries and good service.
J. R.
Food was very good.Basic but excellent prices also good for what you get .Best chips I have had for a long time
M. b.
Food was lovely, staff friendly. It was quiet when we visited but the food was delicious-fresh and hot! Curry was so good-not oily or too much.
S. V. N.
Have revisited alot because of location and rustic settings. Did not have any problems with the menus and is good value for money. Young and old enjoy coming here. They will also accommodate for larger groups.
D. W.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food at very reasonable prices
P. M.
Good food at reasonable prices only downside is service can be hit and miss sometimes.
C. B.
Couldn't fault the food or the price, but a bit short staffed. The barman was lovely and very friendly the waitress was a bit gloomy. Amazing food. Would return.
J. E. A.
Went there this evening, atmosphere was good and staff were brilliant, service excellent, probably one of the best mixed grills I’ve had in a long time chicken and steak done to perfection. Even with our very loud 1 year old the staff were brilliant.
M. P.
Come here regularly, always child friendly with friendly staff, good food for the price. Never had a bad experience here
D. V.
Food was nice, place wasn't very clean or tidy though
J. P.
The food was very good but the service was not great, then a member of staff said the pub was going to the dog's .
C. w.
First class menu, service and value. We will definitely go back. Thank you.
C. K.
The food is really good!! Would definitely recommend. Good to see the food isn't sweet like some restaurants. Staff was really sweet and accommodating :)
D. F.
Good Indian and some UK food Non Halal meat good price very helpful staff when asking about menu they do put a service change not an issue as they worked for it, clean well presented good size menu not too much. Will go back.
R. P.
Good pub food. Very good value for what you get. Good venue in the summer
J. B.
We have eaten here twice since it re-opened. The food tastes amazing, it is fresh, hot and full of flavour. Service is good and the staff are friendly. We wil continue to eat here.
d. h.
Best Indian restaurant, personal favourite is chicken rogan josh . Excellent , can't wait till I go again
M. L.
I came in this morning with my friends on an unexpected visit as we were planning on going somewhere else.
We were greated with a smile by a really friendly member of staff. We ordered our food which came a lot quicker than we expected. The quality of the food was really good considering the prices and i have to say the steak was to die for, it was succulent, perfectly cooked and was well presented. We shall definitely be returning :)
A. E.
I'm a regular here, they always have good food and good service. Very friendly staff.
J. R.
Nice friendly place, wide range of food, nice seating area outside when warmer weather arrives. Staff friendly

R. L.
Good food great value friendly staff.
L. O.
My daughters and i visited this particular restaurant yesterday evening as a treat for my eldest exam resets and it turned out to be a treat for us all. The staff were amazing and so was the food. We were lucky to get a table as it was quiz night and it was very busy however the staff were very apologetic and managed to find us a table outside which we were grateful for. The came came out after about half an hour but it was worth the wait.
We hadn’t eaten since that morning and the meals filled us right up and we were tempted to order more because of how nice it was but instead we just ordered deserts.
Not only was the service and the food amazing but my youngest had fun playing on the outdoor climbing frame.
We shall definitely be returning
l. g.

Waitress that brought out the food, very pleasant.
The glasses for the soft drinks had not been properly cleaned.
The toilets needed some TLC.
N. S.

And I must say that we have enjoyed every meal. Its a chain called The Hungary Horse and the menu is the same but don't let that put you off. Good food, a good price and the drinks are good value
s. c.
It is a very family friendly place and serves a lovely meal
J. A.
Good priced food and drink, but avoid the cocktails.
P. H.
This is a very good place to take kids during the afternoon for burgers and fries while you can have a decent glass of wine or beer. It is not pretending to be a gormet pub it just a decent family place. Not to sure about evenings though as I have not tried it.
L. G.
Met a friend here for lunch today. Can’t fault the kindness and attentiveness of the staff (assume they were the owners!) especially as we had two wriggly babies with us. Thank you!

R. W.
Great food and drink. A little on the spicy side, but then again, that's why you went out for a curry. Excellent.
T. L.
Pretty typical chain pub, but with lots of outdoor seating. Seems to be the place to take kids, with a big play ground and even kids activities.

The Indian food over is really good. The ambience may not be so great but the Indian food is the best in reading
C. C.
Ed, what a legend. As a business you should be so great full to have such warm and welcoming staff. Ed knew the menu inside out and makes one of the meanest gin cocktails in Reading. Keep up the good work.

I came into The Six Bells on Friday the 14th for a meal with my husband to celebrate a new job he had gotten.
It was fairly busy as we arrived but we luckily found a seat by the kitchen. Normally we wouldn’t sit by a kitchen because of the noise but in this instance it wasn’t that bad.
We were served by a lovely welsh girl ( i presume, sorry if I’m wrong) who was very polite. She was rushed off her feet and seemed very hot and bothered. However even though she was rushed she took her time and made us feel very welcome. After our meal we went back to the bar to tip the lovely girl but we couldn’t see her so we left. Next time we’re there we will leave a tip for her
Our food came surprisingly quick considering how busy it was and the food quality was amazing for the price. Definitely value for money.
A little while after we had gotten our meals a chef was walking into the kitchen as one of the waiters kicked the door into his arm at which point he grabbed his shoulder which was in a sling and swore understandably. I asked if he was okay and he instantly apologised for swearing which I didn’t feel like he needed to do. He apaologised once again and we had a little conversation about the food and he seemed very interested in our opinion. Once we told him how much we had enjoyed it he seemed very proud but in a modest way.

I admit, I haven't been down for a while, but I admit, I'm impressed!
The interior feels open and modern, with bright and natural colours and decor. Outside is the Six Bells I remember.
The food - that's the decider for me. The curry is absolutely stunning! Delivered looking good and the flavour is spot on!
I will be coming back again soon!
