Went on a Wed eve - very quiet. Food was good, didn't think there were that many chips with my fish but was pleasantly surprised when we were offered more as apparently they are bottomless. Chose the New York cheesecake for dessert but found it a bit plain. Could have done with a sauce/compote rather than the vanilla ice cream it came with which seemed rather odd.

We had a great experience at the Southcote Beefeater this week. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, especially our server Linda, who was brilliant. Food came in good time and was really tasty. We actually live closer to the Reading Gate Beefeater but the service there was far too slow, you can barely get 1 course in an hour! We will be making the slightly longer journey to The Southcote now everytime!

Food was nothing special..I wouldn't rave about it.. had 2 courses for £8.95 asked for the Apple pie and asked for it to be really hot as I was having ice cream..came and it was warm.. it was nice to catch up with friends.

Good placed for a pint, except only two draft beers avaible. Wanted a San Miguel so had to have a small bottle, they charge the same for 330ml as a pint . Felt a little let down by this will maybe wait a week or two befor returning as I like my pint, I hope by then there delivery get back on track. .but staff are great always friendly.

An excellent eatery and bar with great service by very helpful and knowledgeable staffs. The ambience was great and place was clean and well decorated for Christmas celebrations. The male toilets were clean but did smell awful! Definitely in need of some disinfectant. The floor carpet leading to the male toilets was filthy looking.

Had a lovely evening there along with a friend. Had ordered the original mixed grill and and my friend had the smothering chicken. Nice and quiet atmosphere being a Sunday or maybe it was just me eating out after the whole pandemic and ordering food at home. Our server Georgiana, not sure if I got the name right or if it was another person (please correct me so I can edit and get the right name there), she was a gem and need more smiles like hers there. She was really courteous, warm, friendly and kept checking if everything was ok and couldn’t fault her 1 bit. We were seated at the 2ns table on the right after entering and were warmly welcomed by the hostess who showed us our table and told us the name of the person who would be serving us but was not very clear or may be it was just me. Overall a good experience and I look forward to coming back again. Compliments and a pat on the back to our server, the chef and the rest of the staff. Thank you

Not been to this restaurant in a while and, not since the outbreak, it was clearly marked out as a one way system and there were a few automatic gell dispenser around the place so no excuse not to use them. The meal came out hot and served with safety in mind, top marks to our waiter Stefan B, who was professional and helpful and seemed happy in his work. Would we come again yes.

Fantastic food, great new ideas on menu. Really tasty. Had booked and was promptly run to our table. Excellent customer service by hostess and waiter. Waiter was very knowledgeable, polite and helpful. Compliments to the chef. Will definitely come again but maybe not Saturday evening as it was busy and got very loud, which is the only reason it's 4 star not 5. The booths have been removed, probably increasing the noise level.

Always a lovely meal and experience here. Today the meals were especially outstanding. Within our group we had the Lamb Slovaki, haddock & chips, cauliflower cheese tart and Sweet potato and feta lasagna. All were spectacular. Staff friendly, personable and polite. Highly recommend a visit!

Salmon was raw inside. Salad was pretty basic. They brought out the wrong chips for one of our meals. Really long wait for meals, which then immediately appeared as soon as we enquired about the wait. Overcharged for kids meal. Was told it was because we didn't have the free glass of squash ( we had water). We asked for the squash when we found, so the price would come down ( didn't drink it) Bit annoyed they didn't tell us...because we asked for the kids meal specifically. I recommend making sure you order the drink. Apart from that, and a bit of kerfuffle with the bill (we were given 4 different versions), it's quite a nice place. Staff were friendly. Nice and clean. Good menu, albeit a little pricey for what you get.

The service is exceptional so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble but the food is just okay. It's basic, ribs and chicken a bit dry and the salmon did not come with any sides, I had to pay extra for chips. The bill was not cheap either it was just under £100 for 4 main meals, 2 starters, 1 dessert and 3 wines and 1 soft drink. For very basic food this was a bit expensive. I have paid less elsewhere with better food.

God bless the staff in the restaurant. I ordered the interesting and turned out to be very tasty Duck Wings. Unfortunately, the first portion had a large tangled around it. I told the waitress who took my details and ensured me it would be sorted. Another portion was made and it was removed from the end bill. The curry chicken burger was absolutely delicious, unique and moist and will encourage me to go back. The waitress was perhaps a little presumptive with things like assuming we would want the same drink on every soft drink refill but this was easily sorted. It was a fab Easter Sunday meal that despite the issues we faced I left feeling happy and wanting to return. Surely a good sign of customer service

I have been to this particular Beefeater about five times over the last few years and whilst the service isn't exactly lightning fast, the atmosphere is always pleasant, the food is fairly good, the staff are friendly and professional and the toilets are clean. I recommend looking carefully at the lunchtime saver menu as it often gives you something very similar to what you will find on the main menu but for an awful lot less money. My brother chose the steak on the saver menu and saved £8 with the loss of only a few mushrooms and tomatoes compared to the version offered in the main menu.

We weren't sure how busy it would be so we booked a table for 12 - be aware that the doors don't open until 12, we had to wait outside for a while and then in the bar for a bit once they opened until we could go to our table but after that everything went smoothly. It's not an exceptional place but it's good enough for dinner out with the grandparents :-)

Went here while driving from Reading to Theale. As usual food is really tasty and such good value. I took advantage of their £5 meal before 6pm on a Saturday too! How good is that. When people offer these deals I try not to set my expectations too high. No need to! The food was great and a good portion size. I had the gammon and my wife had the curry. We was served by a really nice french guy. In summary: quick, tasty and great value! Note parking is off the roundabout on the main road so you don't drive past by accident.....of course I didn't miss it.... :)

This is a nice Beefeater with great choice on the menu for all tastes. The staff are friendly and taking the order to recieving food is very efficient with not much of a wait. Good bar with selection of beers including real ale. They offer early bird discounted menus on certain days. Booking is recommended although you can often get a table as long as you avoid busy times. Good for families so it is busy around tea time. All in all this is quite a nice place with good food at an affordable price.

We hadn't booked a table and the car psrk was full. We were advised that there wouldn't be a table for 4 for some time, but we could still eat if we did not mind sitting in the bar rather than restaurant. We ordered meals and drinks at the bsr and paid. In next to no time our food arrived. We'd been to visit my husband in hospital and it was the first time the 2 grandchildren had been able to see him for a week (sling with their mother, they live with us). They were excited about being in the bar area and having their meals. Desserts were lively as were the main courses; well presented, hot and cooked to perfection. My granddaughter had not eaten steak before and it was cooked medium to well but still pink inside; there was concern as to whether or not she would like it, but it was hoovered up. All in all a good meal out, especially when 2 balloons were given to the kids as we left. Lovely team behing the bar.

My meal of bangers and mash was not good at all. My sausages were burnt black . Definitely should not have been served like that . Ate there ystday Weds 21st august . I did show the waiter and ask that the staff be shown the blackness but the bill was not altered to show any sign of care about it . Wouldn't go there again. The food here is incredible! There was a fairly long wait for the food, but we were a table of 20 on a busy Saturday night, so nothing out of the ordinary. The wait was made so much more bearable by our lovely server Laura; she is warm, friendly and professional and a credit to the Beefeater team. Even with the wait, all food came out together and sizzling hot, also a credit to the chef team. We were celebrating an 82nd birthday... And the birthday boy said it was the best steak he'd had! Will definitely be here again 😊

I ate there twice, the first time was poor service, which I reported to the manager, he offered to drop the bill for me but I had eaten the food and so refused. The following evening I had very good service. The food itself is good, though not fine dining, it is well priced. Affordable for a weekly meal out with the family.

The food was good but the portions are not that generous and everything costs extra. The soft drinks are now free refill but at £3 each you have to drink a lot to get your money's worth. Free fry refills are a nice touch but I'd prefer more on my plate at the start than waiting for more halfway through my meal. I like the place but it's just getting to expensive for what you get, it's the same price as tgi's but not as good.

Came here to have a family meal on the run up to Christmas. I thought the service would be compromised by the busyness of the place owing to frstive bookings but I was wrong. A shout out to Steve the barman, absolute lad! Always makes us feel welcome. One new change we're not a fan of is the bar tables don't have matching numbers on the menue holders and the actual table tops. Gets very confusing even for us locals. Otherwise I'd highly recommend.

We enjoyed our meal at The Southcote, especially as we had a 40% off main meals voucher. I had Terryaki Salmon which was very nice. My sister has sirloin steak and my other half had fillet steak. They both said the steaks were excellent . The restaurant was very buzy, but the waiter was coping well and we didn't have to wait long between courses. We recommend this Beefeater.

ive known the stffherea lg time and their meals after a rather diisappointing time last yr bi have to say their meals are now top quality the prawn coctail was simply mouthwatering and the steak done to perfection something not always achieved for someone who struggles to eat a full meal at present i can say I finished the lot The sérvive was perfect the waiter was polite friendly professional and respectful, happy to help with anything and meals were served promptly but without rushing us. Jenny the manageress of many yrs knows how to run a very smooth happy restaurant with happy staff and is very professional as well as friendly with customers new and old Ive bn going for the last 30 plus yrs and im extremely impressed by this last visit folk were sensible seated to maintain social distancing and there was a very relaxed atmosphere which enabled folk to forget about the stress of the covid issues and just enjpy a meal out Well done all at the southcote beefeater

Staff good but meals shockingly overpriced for what they are. Spicy bean salad was spot the rice it was difficult. I got the beef dish and bearnaise sauce and it was obvious that the sauce was watery packet stuff. Plus chips portion was really small considering my meal was 19.99 .

Great family restaurant experience. Been here for many family events over the years. The floor manager is still the same very friendly woman who I suspect is responsible for the continuity of wonderful service over the years. I'm an unashamed food snob, with multiple Michelin star visits, but if you simply want a good steak and chips, this place is hard to beat. A blue sirloin on this visit was cooked and rested very well, with crispy, hot chips and a nice soft mushroom. Along with a decent glass of Shiraz, makes for a very pleasant lunch. The only caveat I have is with the puddings, which are I suspect just decanted from a packet and centrally made. Don't bother with them, have a bigger steak and just a coffee at the end!

Had bad experiences in Beefeaters before but decided to try this one on our way home from Legoland. It seemed really busy and the manageress was lovely and was cleaning a table for us. We were served by a young gentleman who was courteous throughout and was very attentive with my little boy who kept asking for things. Food was lovely and steak cooked brilliantly. Made even better that I could use Meerkat Meals for discounted meals. Would definately recommend.

We'd reserved a Sunday roast as we were told on booking that they run out by 3pm usually and we were booking for 7.30pm. This in it self surprised me as I thought if you know you regularly run out wouldn't you prepare more? Oh how I wish I hadn't bothered, it had been kept warm since 3pm, the beef was tough, the potatoes were dried out and the veg was tasteless. It was also all plated which rather surprised me also, I thought the veg would be self serve. We were each given the tiniest amount of gravy but when asked for more it took a while but did turn up. I think Beefeater should stick to what they do best - being a grill! Always love it then.

Visited for a family birthday, 8 of us in total, staff were very helpful and friendly, one of our party is gluten intolerant and when we asked for the specific gluten free menu it was provided within moments, everyone was very happy with the food, I had the lobster 1/4lb burger, I would highly recommend this, and will definitely be having it again. The only thing I don't like is the new bar layout, the issue is that one half of the bar is just a wall/door and a counter with a coffee machine, no optics or pumps therefore the other side of the bar is where all the pumps and optics are, now this is not a very large area and also has tables very close by so it is where most people stand to get service as it's the only are you are able to see what is on offer, resulting in a very busy cramped area which is not pleasant.
