Reviews of Dancing Man Brewery
A. H.
Very busy, very popular very large dining venue. The Dancing Man brewery is able to cater to large groups (arranged in advance). It brews its own beers which are available on tap. There are two levels inside plus outdoor seating The food is fairly straightforward pub food but is enjoyable. We thought the service was a bit in the slow side but I guess unsurprising given how busy it was.
B. L.
The food was delicious, well presented, and service was awesome.
Unfortunately, they tried to charge us double the price - over half my colleagues were unable to come due to covid or isolating... the restaurant did know in advance. Thanks to my assertive colleagues and the kind person in charge - all was sorted by the end.
I will return 👍.

Friendly staff. Was offered a taste of 3 cask beers on arrival. All were good and we had several pints of them subsequently. Interesting building too! Will definitely return.

Amazing find. The aesthetics of the building are stunning, and the food and drink were delicious! We had lunch and the baguettes we had were loaded with the most tender meat. For drinks, we had a taster tray which allowed us to try more than one ale, which was a really nice touch. Can't fault this place at all, but one thing that would be nice is to have a menu of the drinks on the table, so you can see whats on offer and see the tasting notes.
H. B.
Sounds like there are some great options but sadly not all were available. Only 2 AF options (Nanny State or Becks Blue), none on tap. Brilliant to enjoy the outdoor space and respect that they’ve added portaloos to cater for the extra people sitting on the hill during nice weather 👏

We attended a wedding reception at Dancing Man Brewery recently and it was a great location for the celebration. The staff were all really friendly and attentive and they have a great selection of beers to choose from. The atmosphere for the wedding party was really relaxed and the food was very enjoyable. They catered really well for gluten free (coeliac) and the chef and owner was very reassuring regarding the gluten free food. There is also a little Jack Russell dog who greets you - he definitely made my day! Would definitely recommend visiting here.

This is an incredibly interesting establishment. Very popular with the trendy set and comes into its own when the weather behaves and the extensive outdoor seating can be utilised.
History is wrote deep in this building. Southampton's only Grade I listed building. Once a Wool House, it was originally built by Cistercian Monks following the 1338 French raid on Southampton. It is the only surviving free standing medieval warehouse in the city.
During the Napoleonic Wars it was used to house French prisoners, some of their names are carved into the roof beams. The 20th century saw it used by boat builders and haulage contractors among others before becoming The Maritime Museum from 1966 to 2011.
Now, as a brew pub, on Friday one keg beer may be passed through a Hop Randall (a container is fitted in line, between the keg and the glass) and may be used to add extra Hop or fruit flavours.
There are not many establishments that do this.
It's a stunning building with a newly reinstated slate floor (much better for brewing than its former parquet, apparently)
Inside the bric-a-brac and sundry objects, many of which deserve more than a passing glance, would keep even a numpty entertained.
But, visual fascination aside, the beers, many of which are brewed a few feet from the bar, are a real ale buffs sweet shop. From session beers to 'OMG! take the car keys of me' can be had and even those with a discerning palette for ale, can't fail to be impressed.
Food also has a distinctive and eclectic urbanity - I judged by observation and discussion with the recipients. All who were questioned waxed effusive compliments.
This reviewer was an out of town visitor, here for the boat show (SIBS) and came across this business perchance and very did he did so.
"But" dear reader, I hear you say, "Why only four stars?"........don't ask me about the loo. Just DON'T ask me about the loo.

The place itself is awesome. Really interesting decor and very homely. Feels like a jacked up classic pub.
The food tastes good. It can be a bit overpriced at times for what you get, for example the garlic bread.
The ales are fantastic and there's a healthy selection of them to choose from.
From my experience, unfortunately, the service was a bit slow. We had to repeatedly call over staff to take orders and drinks.
C. J.
Fantastic boozer in Southampton, right next to the water. Great selection of beers (both their own and from other breweries) and fantastic looking place inside!
Only didn’t get a 5 due to toilet situation - portaloo’s outside, that’s probably me being a ponce though!
Had a really good time here, deffo be back next time I’m in Southampton.
K. B.
Pork belly for me and Sunday dinner for my dog. A great place to visit. Very friendly.
D. W.
The ale at the Dancing Man is always very good. This was the first time we had eaten here. Would 100% recommend the burger. Wonderful staff. Love this place!
R. L.
Great pub located inside the historic 14th Century wool house on the quay side. Micro brewery serving some great new world beers. A lager is also available. Food is served upstairs, but not on the day we visited due to a private event.
A. K. H.
Lovly craft beers well worth buying a growler to take away or a few cans.
Been going here for few years now but havent eaten in a while but will definitely be returning to sample some food from the new menu.
R. G.
We were recommended to the Dancing Man and if I said it was perfect, it would not do it justice. This building known as The Wool House dates from the 14th Century, used to store Wool for export to the continent, then used as a prison in the Napoleonic wars and restored to be a Maritime Museum in 1966. It is now the Dancing Man Brewery. The Management, Staff, Food, Service was top class. We booked this as a restaurant booking for 42 people last Saturday for our Wedding party. Menu's were agreed and they allowed me to decorate the tables and set up a slide show of photographs. The food was cooked, presented and served beautifully. Mandy, Co-owner, was on hand the whole time but the staff were so professional, they were very impressive taking care of our every need. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. The interior of the building was so in keeping with our day, as we had married at Westgate Hall, a medieval building nearby. All of our party were very impressed with the whole event, it ran very smoothly from beginning to end.
R. L.
This is without doubt one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever had a pint within. Super friendly staff, great beers (obvs), and an amazing setting. Highly recommended.
S. C.
On a sunny day when you can sit out front it doesn’t get any better. Plenty of choices including a local cider on draft. No food on
Monday but who needs it…
T. D.
Homely food with good selection of real ales. Service excellent and relaxed atmosphere. Portion sizes are big, nice pie selection but let down a touch by the pastry, that said, such a minor point and will definitely be back!
R. B.
Beautiful old building full of history and character, lovely selection of beers and ciders, was a band playing when first went past, will definitely have to go back in daylight to take it all in better.
Bar staff where helpful and informative.
Would thoroughly recommend

Oh mxy fab food great service and good time just eat eat eat my word oh my best food ever cant eat afters
P. J.
The beer, building , staff and atmosphere is amazing - but avoid eating here. It was a complete rip-off. £18.00 for what looked like and tasted like yesterdays leftovers covered in potatoes to bulk it up, then drenched in butter and cheese before being baked in an oven. My dogs dinner is presented more beautifully. Then £15.00 for the tiniest piece of fish and literally a whole bowl full of new potatoes. The food was all so oily, it was gross. We left feeling as though we had the mickey taken out of us. You expect a certain kind of presentation and cooking in that environment and they got it completely wrong.
E. W.
Good selection of beers - IPAs, Bitters, Ales, Stouts etc. All unique beers and friendly staff. Prices are a bit more expensive but expected for the area. Beers are an ok price (£5-6) gin and tonic is too expensive (double pink and tonic £10.40) so why I gave it 4*.
s. g.
Great selection of on site brewed beers and (if you really must San Miguel). Situated in a beautiful 700 year Old Building it is very atmospheric. With friendly staff it's defiantly worth a visit.
J.
Just go! I was in Southampton for business. Visited here around 6pm on Tuesday, instantly impressed (if you love a bit of history!), walked in and the barmaid was helpful and friendly. Went upstairs for food, had the special (Beef, Peppercorn and I think ale Pie), with mash and steamed veg. It was very tasty, got a bit rich at the end but no way I was leaving anything. So went back the next day, this time was recommended to have the RB6 and Jack 'o' Diamonds to drink. Again, I was impressed and it takes a lot for me not to be critical.
E. H.
Delicious food made in full sight in an open kitchen. The beer was fantastic too, and the waitress made an excellent suggestion to pair with the food ordered. The location is unbelievable with beautiful exposed architecture.
B.
Authentically rugged and chic decor and atmos. A 14th century wool house converted to microbrewery. Their flagship IPA is packed full of citrus punch with the right amount of carbonation, and their milk stout is creamy enough for a calf. Staff are a cheery bunch and the food is both varied and eclectic enough to satisfy most. Go for the beer, stay for the warm elegant ambiance.
D. H.
A kid you know I got added to a group chat with a friend that I haven't spoke to in about 3 years on the day that I was heading to Southampton from the other side of the UK
I went to the dancing man with a friend that lives in the city and as I leave the toilet I bump into no person other than the guy who I have recently spoken to that day
For the share coincidence of the universe dancing man for 5 out of 5
Also the 12% beer is pretty lethal lol
A. “.
The place is beautiful. The beer is good and particular but the staff is not so helpful or nice. They're more like operating machines.
The restaurant part is much better, also in terms of staff. Their best plate which is really something to try is their selection of pies.
L. M.
Located in front of the pier, the Dancing man brewery has a great selection of beers. The staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere of the whole pub is beautiful in winter (the inside is really cosy) as much as in summer (plenty of seatings outside).
H.
Popped in because we were early for our Isle of Wight Ferry. So glad that we did. We loved everything about this place as soon as we entered. Very nice staff offering us different beers to taste. We didn't have enough time to have a meal, but the food looks amazing.
They seem to specialise in lots of different ale's and the one's we tried were great.
Going to get to the ferry a little earlier next time and spend more time here
H. E. L.
English food at a reasonable price. Good quality of the ingredients and nice taste. Amazing place to see inside, we were sat by the big window upstairs and it felt so cosy! Waiters really attentive and nice. Great place
N. P. B.
Went to this cute little pub/brewery yesterday (Saturday 12th August 2017). Great food, amazing staff and really very lovely historical building.
They were very busy outside (decent weather, woohoo!) and fairly busy inside too. Given how popular this place is locally, I would recommend booking if you intend to I eat. I had not booked, but snuck up stairs to see if I could grab something to eat. They let me know it would be a short wait while the kitchen opened, and they even let me have the final unreserved table (a table of two/four all to myself. I later saw the host turning down a group of four because yours truly had nabbed the final table (sorry guys). So I felt a little guilty, not guilty enough though). In my defence, I had come all the way from Surrey, so there!
The staff in this place are lovely. Very friendly and helpful, well turned out and professional.
The food was beyond anything I would ever expect to eat in a pub setting. I ordered the soup so start and for a main I decided ok Mrs. Ramsbottom (see photo, yum!). Followed by an apple and rhubarb tart with crumble topping and ice-cream.
The soup (butternut squash and something or other?) was great, perfectly balanced between sweet & savoury, the celeriac was a great touch.
My main, what can I say? The lamb was cooked to perfection, the middle pink and with just a hint of crispiness in a corner at the edge. Samphire is the reason I ordered this (instead of the beef, horseradish and something or other pie that I had been after). And the Chef wasn't stingy or shy with the stuff at all. The veg in this (broad beans, peas, samphire, little baby oniony thingies) made we want to die with pleasure. The sauce was utterly perfect, translucent with little spots of fat floating about at the top. It was so good, I kinda want to drive all the way down there from Gatwick again, today.
Desert was also excellent, beautiful little pastry, lovely almost biscuity crumble topping and they ice cream tasted home made.
Great hospitality, great food & drink. Lovely staff, wonderful building. Great for people travelling alone (like me), couples, families and groups. I would highly recommend this place and visiting Southampton just to eat here.
Big thanks to my host (sorry I have forgotten your name) the chefs and all the other staff.
*** I loved their food, their ambience and their way of doing things.
And... I'll be back!***
***A. Schwarzenegger voice (yes I know I'm not funny, screw you!)
H. A. L.
Nice warm, rustic ambience. Immediately puts you in a Christmas mood already. Service was good. However, the food was disappointing. All the dishes were way too salty. I ordered the chicken pie and everything was just salty. The pie crust was also very hard. The ingredients did not taste fresh at all. Not worth the price you are paying here. Which it quite a pity because the interior design is so pretty
S. J.
We had our wedding reception at the Dancing Man, and cannot speak highly enough of the venue, its staff, food and beer. They helped everything go smoothly and made the whole day easy. Highly recommended.
J. W.
Great welcome after long trip, very friendly quick service.
M. H.
I'm completely torn, probably the best draught pint I've ever had in Southampton but also the most expensive. £6 for a pint of big casino. It's delicious but completely untenable for me. I won't pay that for 568ml of beer despite how delicious it is. Is this the future? Not for me.
A.
Good beer, decent food, acceptable service. Busy bar area downstairs with a quaint, storybook like dining room upstairs.
S. W.
An amazing and historic venue with a great atmosphere, fantastic light options for lunch and a superb range of ales brewed in house. One of Southampton's best.
A. H.
Such a lovely place! The decor is very inviting and contemporary. Staff are funny and friendly, and the food is fantastic! I would certainly recommend and is becoming one of our favourite restaurants/breweries!
P. S.
Nice interior, spacious. Staff politely with fast service. Small toilets can be use just by one person a time
C. P.
Amazing food, great beer, full bar, great culture.... In a little bit of history... What else would you want. Highly recommend for anyone who is traveling through.
A. T.
Amazing place to be, very cozy interior design! Love it
A. P.
Absolutely awesome place where to drink a stunning beer.
Strictly recommended if in Southampton
P. M.
Wonderful place. Food excellent, beer great, service wonderful. And dogs even get a menu. Love it. Such a great find and would recommend to all.
D. B.
Went here for lunch. Food was really nice and the wedges were the best I've ever had! Beer was really tasty and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
J. J.
Great atmosphere, good choice of beers, ok food.
T. D. P.
Lovely staff, food was good and the home brew was awesome
D. J. K.
Had a lovely meal here. Service was spot on. Myself and my fellow diners had a pleasant time.
J. P.
Top class customer service, delicious food and super friendly atmosphere, highly recommend
D. H.
Great food, friendly helpful staff, would definitely recommend this place, it is very busy and would advise people to book at the restaurant.
B. R.
Thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday dinner today! Food, service and beer were all excellent.
W. P.
Very nice micro brewery and pub in a historic building. The pub is ideally suited to go spend an evening with friends with locally brewed beers.
M. D. L. P.
Fast serving of a lovelly pint of Cider, friendly staff.
P. H.
Now this is a place with a lot of history. A listed building which remains old on the outside and modern on the inside. The decor is fantastic. And the staircase is the main focal point.
This place gets very busy, and there's good reason for it! The food is to die for and there's an extensive variety of brews. Including their own brew which is made in their onsite micro brewery.
I. M.
Considering that my visit coincided with Southampton Boat Show, service at bar was very efficient. Very good, wide and comprehensive beer selection. Outside seating area most enjoyable. However, cleanliness of toilets require a bit more attention.
M. G.
Superb independent bar with some great on site brewed beers and helpful staff.
N. J.
Not eaten here yet but the atmosphere and craft beer is the best in the world and I have drank at many. Great bar staff who always make you welcome. Can be busy at times but that adds to the atmosphere.
N. R.
Amazing….what more can I say…?…. Oh yes, go for the beef pie, out of this world!
K. T.
Great atmosphere and tasty brisket. Shame puddings weren't available tonight...
s. h.
Boat show weekend so was always gonna be busy. Found table inside and fairly easy to manoeuvre around in my wheelchair to the table. Large selection of ales. The building itself is just pure history so glad someone made this a bar. Knocked off a star purely because bar staff a little rude and no real customer service
R. G.
Great beer and a great atmosphere. Gets full quickly at popular times so get in early to find a seat indoors.
k. e.
Best dog friendly restaurant I've ever found. The staff and atmosphere am great. Human food was delicious but for me what was really special was the dog friendly welcome, water and special dog roast dinner. They loved it. We'll be back!
M. S.
The last time I had visited this building, it was still the Maritime museum !!....on a recommendation I revisited on a rare visit to Southampton...and was not disappointed. A great use of a fine old building and a really good bar (despite current Covid madness)
I enjoyed a 'Sky IPA' which had a tropical feel to it...very pleasant summer ale. If I lived closer I'd be visiting a lot more often !.... Looking forward to my next visit down south 👍😊
M. B.
Good beers, good prices in a very nice building. One of the best places to drink in Southampton.
R. K.
Amazing place to drink their own brewed beers
M. P.
Very pleasant atmosphere, a shame the kitchen was closed 😕 lovely pub though.
P. C.
Great service, wide selection of good beers, great venue. Toilets are limited.
J. H.
Amazing building this place is housed in, and the beer is delicious as well. I had the blackberry and vanilla sour.
R. S.
Great atmosphere, fantastic beers which are all brewed in house, beautiful medieval property and super staff, slightly marred by someone who asked me not to vape but the staff were unsure who he was? The lager was one of the best, that I have ever drunk, prices very good too. 5 ✨
D. W.
An enjoyable visit for a wedding reception ;-) Friendly and helpful staff in lovely spacious surroundings. Like the notice in the ladies for support should needs arise for supplies too :-) Good selection of crafted beers and lagers. Well worth a visit.
S. G.
Beautiful building and decor, great range of beers - many brewed onsite. Worth making a detour to find. Didn't try the food, but liked great. Dining area upstairs
J. B.
Really nice atmosphere, lovely bar to sit in on a historic building with stone walls, they have a microbrewery too so and some of that is on show, outside seating (although of a main road offers) great views over the harbour, especially at sunset, staff are friendly too.
n. t.
Lovely venue as always but slightly disappointed with the vegan roast that consisted of small slices of beetroot, mushroom, and butternut squash as the roast. Definitely been here before and had a nicer vegetarian option for roast but otherwise very nice.
N.
Interesting real ales. Great outside seating.
A. R.
Absolutely beautiful place to have a drink and even more beautiful craft beers to sample. Try their strong stuff, you won't be disappointed. Loved it and will definitely return.
H. L.
Nice staff. Great beer🍺 Highly recommend.
M. H.
Great micro brewery with wide selection of own and some other beers. I liked to sit outside in the summer.
W. v. K.
Very nice location. A great selection of good beer.
p. h.
Excellent beers, very nice people, I recommend this place 🤘
T.
Excellent selection of brews. Unique, historic interior. Delicious food.
R. M. J.
Great night out with good beer flights and food. Recommended for convivial evenings.
A. M.
Wonderful food and fabulous service...couldnt ask for more!! Will definately be back to this beautiful venue!
E. C.
One of the best spots in Southampton. Historic building, stunning location, delicious food and great staff. Couldn't ask for more!
M. C.
Pies are terrific but never had anything disappointing. Brewery downstairs with brilliant choice of beers. Need to book and masks must be worn until settled at table. All windows are open so extra layer may be advisable in the evenings as breeze comes straight off Solent. Great building. Great staff. Great food.
7.
Cosy micro-brewery with a range of tasty and interesting drinks, worth repeat visits just to see the changing roster and try their new brews. Outdoor tables and a grassy hill provide a great spot to sit outside on a sunny day and take in the view - which may not be a natural beauty spot but you can watch the ships go in and out of port if that floats your boat! On a nice day the spaces fill up very quickly though.
When the building is open inside again, does delicious food upstairs. Limited seating inside but a friendly crowd and chilled atmosphere make up for it. Make sure to pat the bar's resident three-legged dog and try the Bovine Intervention milk stout - both highly recommended!
T. C.
Probably one of the best chocolate stouts l ever had Chocs away!
B. H.
Fantastic place serving the most amazing and unique beers
I. P.
I love the building, it's one of the oldest ones in Southampton and it's full of stories. The brewery is nice, I've visited it several times and I've always enjoyed it. My only issue is that the bar gets very busy and there is no sort of queuing system so people push in front of you unless you get your elbows out.
T. P. J.
Great atmosphere and very pleasant and helpful staff
j. m.
Great selection of cask and keg beers. Azing looking building steeped in history. Sit outside and watch the ferries and cruise liners sail past. Clean and well organised and very friendly and helpful staff. We'll worth a visit and a pint but you may end up having a couple more.......
C. S.
Great location, although busy lots of outdoor spots to sit which meant great views and above all great beers!! Finally found somewhere with a unique sour beer. Would recommend!
M. A.
Beautiful inside with lovely beers brewed onsite.
Only 4 star as staff on shift when we visited could not tell us what beers were vegan. Shame as everything else was great
D. L.
Good food and really nice house beer selection.
R. H.
Friendly barmen who know their beers, happy to let you sample before buying.
m. w.
Went here on a Sunday, had a roast with beef that was 14.95, and have to say was bloody lovely. Not really a fan of ales or bitter so I just stuck with the San Miguel.
Lovely surroundings looking out on the Solent, and food served by friendly staff. All in all a pleasant experience. Get yourself there! .
K. H.
A great location if your taking the IOW ferry, its just over the road. A lovely historic building, really cheerful friendly staff & they brew their own beer. Win all round. The food looked good but we didn't sample any.
C. A. B.
We had the best roast here on Sunday. Really good portions. Great veggie roast that they can make vegan. Lovely spuds and good gravy. I had the pork and it was amazing. It's also a very beautiful building with lots of history. Nice beer as well. Well worth a visit.
J. K. H.
Possibly one of the best pubs I've ever been to. Awesome historical interior, Viking-esque roof, beautiful beers and incredible food totalled to an amazing experience at the Dancing Man.
If you're ever in Southampton YOU MUST VISIT!
A. C.
Amazing food and fantastic drinks. The service is top-notch and this is one of the most stunning venues in Southampton, with great views from upstairs over Southampton Water. A must visit for any visitor to the city.
I. e. W.
What can I say but WOW great beer great food and atmosphere, building full of history and staff very friendly highly recommend
S. B.
My favourite place in Southampton to drink. The beer is fantastic, some of the best beer in the UK. It's really reasonably priced for what you're getting. You pay like a quid less per pint compared to other craft beer places. The building is stunning and it's really well presented inside. If there were ever a template for a brew pub then this would be it.
If you're a big fan of beer then here is a must stop for any visit to Southampton. I recommend Big Casino, amazing beer for £4.50.
K. A. L.
Excellent service, great food and super vibe!
Had a lovely time and my little doggo was also welcome too!
Thanks so much!
J. F.
Brilliant beers and delicious food in a building full of history.
S. H.
A great selection of even greater beers. Friendly staff, large outdoor seating, good atmosphere...and did I mention the beer?
J. A.
This is the second time we've eaten here and I can honestly say the food is lovely. I'm not a vegan but I found the vegan dishes excellent the first time so I enjoyed them again this time.
The service is excellent with all staff being professional, friendly and helpful.
Definitely worth a visit.
A. L.
Fabulous food, wine and best of all ale. The waiter very nice, helpful as was the waitress. Social distancing well observed, would recommend. Lovely place made for a good evening...
R. D.
This is one of my favorite pub,s in Southampton.
G. R.
This is like a guideline as how to make the perfect modern brew pub. A varied menu brilliantly executed with a great range of beers. The layout is perfect and tastefully decorated and the staff are knowedgeable regarding the beer and food. The place is child friendly, but is also great for adults.
A perfect balance!
C. H.
Lovely pub, inside and out. Great and friendly service. Didn't eat myself, but the food around us looked amazing!
J. W.
Just moved to the area and Dancing Man popped up in my recommendations to try out.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the whole operation RE coronavirus is smooth and slick. They have a good number of beers on draught as well as a couple of the usual suspects if you’re not into that sort of thing.
The menu is small but fantastic, it was perfect for a meat eater/vegetarian combination such as myself and my girlfriend. We shared the delicious Camembert for the starter, I had the amazing tasting hash for my main and my girlfriend had the vegan burger which she said was delicious.
We will definitely be returning!
G. C.
Can't recommend this place enough, packed with history and fantastic food, I'd recommend the ribs and brisket. Staff were really attentive and atmosphere was great. Good drinking area outside to finish the night off with a few drinks after a great dining experience
Z. K.
Great beer & vibes 🤙🐕

It was our first visit, and it had been recommended. We were a group of five, plus a baby, celebrating my husband's birthday. The food was ok, but not exceptional. We had to ask for the Yorkshire puddings, to accompany the roast beef. We were charged £7.95 for a small portion of roast chicken for the baby. (My granddaughter is only 14 months old). This was more than half the price of the average roast, so it seemed a little on the expensive side for a baby; although they did provide one scoop of ice cream free of charge. Our request for a second round of drinks went unheeded. The service was quite slow, despite arriving when they opened, so the restaurant was not busy by any means. When I enquired about baby changing facilities, I was initially told that they did not have any, but that if I spoke to the manager, there was a room available upstairs. When I approached the manager, I was told they were downstairs. All in all, our visit was a shame, because the Dancing Man came highly recommended, however, it is not an experience any of us would be in a hurry to replicate.
J. L.
Love the Sunday evening atmosphere with a blend of hot 80’’s 90’s + music 🎼 Cool 😎 Staff…
Highly recommend if you’re in the area..💯👍

Had an amazing vegan curry last night - so so tasty. Really surprised about the quality of the food as thought this pub was all about beer! The food was wonderful and the atmosphere with the lights was beautiful. Thank you. Really recommend.
D. P.
Thoroughly enjoyed my evening and a big thank you to all the friendly entertaining staff .. you make this beautiful place amazing.
H. M.
Absolutely fantastic! Brilliant atmosphere, lovely decor, and the tall lanky waiter (sorry didn't catch your name) was brilliant and attentive to needs he went above and beyond
M. C.
Lovely setting, would like a more varied menu but otherwise, great little restaurant/bar (bonus was it is dog friendly).
s.
One of the best vegetarian Sunday Roast I have ever had. The home-made gravy was amazing and the black beans cake surrounded by roasted potatoes and parsnips was as yummy as a chicken leg or sirloin beef steak. Highly recommended to anybody who visits Southampton on a Sunday and wants to taste a very good British lunch. Totally affordable.
K. R.
Nice enough beer but a bit of a sour note to them, like a saison. Tried three different types which should have been quite distinct but they weren't. I don't want to overplay it, especially as the food was lovely and the veg were very freshly cooked.
S. M.
Locally sourced pork and beef fantastic atmosphere enhanced by a superb waiting team. Very friendly decent In house. Beers and local gins. Rightly awarded the best dining experience in town . Views of the solemt and Isle of Wight make for a romantic ambiance.
C. D.
Had a awesome time at my friend's wedding.. The beer and food was good.. Friendly staff. Would recommend a visit or hold a wedding venue 👍🏼
N. B.
Stopped in for a pint with friends. Amazing atmosphere and decor. The stunning center piece is a winding stair case which leads up to the dining area. Nice to keep it seperate I think. Various home brewed beers where you can try several as larger shots on a platter! Music was good and was snug on a cold night. I did ask for a dry cider but got a sweet one but it was still enjoyable. Downstairs only had small loos but imagine there are more in the upstairs dining area. So be warned if it is busy and you are desperate!
Cannot comment on the food but would like to try. Will surely pop back.
=)
S. A.
By far the best pub in Southampton, brew their own excellent beer and have amazing Sunday lunches.
E. w.
What a cracking place! Delicious lunch, amazing beer and very friendly service all wrapped up in the most atmospheric building possible! Best way to enjoy a wet and windy October afternoon! Thank you.
K. G.
On a visit to Southampton, had a quick visit to The Dancing Man Brewery.
If you are into proper beer there's plenty to choose from. So many i gave up looking at the menu and just chose one.
The decor was great, trendy and modern. It had a good atmosphere.
X.
The decor is beautiful, perfectly placed with a view of the Solent and the staff are all fantastic. I had the vegetarian pie and it was phenomenal, whilst the vegetables were some of the freshest I have eaten in a while. 10/10 I would recommend this place
R. C.
Beautiful place with good beer, great atmospheres and a great view!
C. O.
Great place. Beautifully decorated and good atmosphere. Food was good, only disappointing thing was, paying an extra £2.60 to add cheese to the burger - you could hardly see it!
B. M.
The upstairs restaurant has the best interiors of any restaurant in Southampton. Beautiful stone building, steeped in history and with a wide variety of lagers and ales brewed on site. The food is reasonable, but you'll be too busy staring at the timber beams, stonemasonry and contemporary objets d'art to notice that anyway.
S. H.
Sat outside for first drink which was OK, very noisy as on main road. Went to go in for more drinks and dinner, table service only, waited as waitresses walked passed, not acknowledging us, gave up and left finding one waitress sitting outside having a cigarette. Shame as wanted to stay and spend money, but no interest in serving us.
c. S.
Great ales and great staff
A. B.
The best tasting brews in Southampton, we loved this place.
We've only been here twice, both on very busy days but the staff all did very well at coping with the numbers of people in the bar. We didn't have a chance to try the food but sat sipping beer enjoying the bands performing upstairs was a lovely experiance
c. g.
Great funky bar with excellent service and choice of beers...bit disappointing with how tiny the food portions were though considering the price...would go back for a drink but certainly not for food...
T. A.
Outstanding! What a beautiful building with incredible decorative touches including pillars made from ship masts and handmade draft handles.
Our friend and bartender, Mark Robinson, suggested that we try a flight of beer to sample a variety of delicious flavours. Our biggest surprise was Strawberry Milkshake, but our favourites were Bone Dry and Big Casino. If you like good beer, check out the Dancing Man!
A. J.
Whilst the interior upstairs is lovely to look at, the food wasn't great. The haddock 'scotch egg' I had to start was bland and tasteless. The smear of sauce only lasting a couple of mouthfuls. The RB5 main was swimming in oil and had too much fat left on the brisket for my liking.
J. P.
Lovely food and amazing atmosphere.
N. H.
Great atmosphere and friendly service. Housed in a medieval wool warehouse they have maintained the structure whilst giving it a modern feel. Beers brewed on site with distinctive flavour. It was good to eat somewhere with a unique menu and ales.
C. B.
Excellent Covid safe experience. Great beers as always .£9 for a large glass of wine a bit steep though !?!!
J. J.
This is a great pub that has outdoor seating that is lovely on a summers day. The pub have a wide variety of drinks and they are not badly priced. Definitely worth a visit if you'd like to try something different and visit a pub that has some great history attached to it.
C. L.
Lovely place. Beautiful building and nice view. Just had some beers and i thought the selection was good to reasonable prices. They also got this big outdoor seating that was really nice. I liked the atmosphere, felt very local.
K. C.
We've been here a few times for work outings. The food is fantastic and there's a good range of vegan options available too. It has a wonderful atmosphere and is a really beautiful building to eat and relax in. We have always had good service and would definitely recommend it.
R. W.
Great Beer, good atmosphere and very friendly staff, what more can you ask for. Nice to have somewhere different not churning out the same old chain pub beers.
R. W.
Top class small brewery with a complete range of ales to suit tastes from blonde to stout. Cracking tap house with lovely environment both inside and out. Lots of history in their building and locally so you can make a trip out of your visit. On main bus routes but is only about a mile from Southampton railway station. Other decent pubs and micro pubs a short walk away.
z. m.
Good beer, with home brew and wider beers. Their own brews are high quality and interesting. Great space outside to chill as well. We'll worth a visit if you're into craft beer (about 10 taps).
C. W.
Great vibe and offbeat decor in a nice historic building. But the most important thing: great beer.
S. N.
Dog friendly, kind staff, great craft beers and full of lovely quirky furniture and twinkly fairy lights
k. m.
Always love this place, nothing takes away fromatomsphere and chilled out feel you get. The pints are good so refreshing too. Staff always on hand to help and always friendly
D. P.
I love it here. Lovely beer. Terrific service. The staff are lovely and very welcoming. Our regular Saturday afternoon haunt. I can't recommend it enough! Don't listen to all the sub 5 review complainers.
D. B.
Busy Bar - good selection of real ales
A. W.
We love the dancing man, have been many times. It's a beautiful building with a great range of beers. Unfortunately tonight, one of the security staff who was standing outside of the door came inside to tell us we were being too loud and was very threatening and rude. We were having a lively discussion about bicycles (not anything serious) all laughing, and the guard came inside saying he could hear us at the door and we were not allowed to make so much noise. It ruined our night as we were afraid if we laughed too loud we would be kicked out. Shame he took his job too seriously.
The bar itself is still definitely worth it.
R. P.
Fantastic beer and the brewing team are awesome. Made it really easy to buy beer and delivered it to the pub on a Saturday for us. Great guys and great beer.
D. F.
We have held our post Boat Show event for the past 4 years at The Dancing Man. We have over a hundred guests attending every September. We can only but heap praise on these guys. The buffet has always been one of the best that our clients have seen and tasted. Word has leaked out and the event gets bigger every year. Darren Fulford Finance Director Radcliffe & Co
PS - What a friendly and professional gang that run the place too. WELL DONE
C. S.
Great pub in these times of Covid restrictions. Plenty of outside tables and outside space in general to sit or stand and have a pint of their many home brewed beers
R. W.
Just a flat out perfect place for a pint - can't day what else was good about it other than the one type of IPA that I had (can't remember the name) but it was great.
A. V.
The Woolhouse where the Dancing man is located is an absolutely stunning place for a pub to be located. The refurbishment has gone really well and it looks really nice and authentic, bar the terrible kitch clock in the men's room. Definitely worth a visit just to look at the building.
That being said, it is often quite busy, and, as the place is quite big, does make it seem a bit unpersonal, but makes it an excellent place for large groups. The drinks are good craft brews, which I can enjoy even though I am not a big fan of ales. There is a limited range of pub-food, but the food that they do is done well and tastes good.
I have bit of a problem sitting outside here. The terrace is some sort of open square adjacent a very busy road. It makes it very noisy and uncomfortable to sit there.
The Dancing Man, provided you stay inside, is a nice place, but not a cheap place. The real question thus is not whether the food or drinks are alright, but if it is worth paying the prices asked. I dare say there are places in the area with better value for money. The sister-pub of The Dancing Man, the Platform Tavern down the road to name one.
d. h.
Best beers by far! Necessary Evil is the best lager based beverage you can taste. Save some for me please!
c.
The food we had was very nice, unfortunately what has knocked off two stars is the fact the men's toilet downstairs has no lock on it and is only one toilet, yes they have an upstairs toilet but when the restaurant is closed the upstairs is shut. The women's toilet downstairs on this day also packed in so it was havoc. The other star I've knocked off is down to the fact it was bloody freezing inside, not sure if they have any heating but it wasn't on. I would go back in the summer though, drinks and food were spot on. Please update your toilets.
M. R.
Nice place, good beer and a very pleasant girl behind the bar.
C. A.
Amazing food, beautiful building. Service a bit lacking and one unlucky member of the party got food poisoning from the mussels
D. S.
Very unique place with lots of character, good mixture of rustic and stylish. They even have a dog menu
I. M.
Amazing food, atmosphere and beer
N.
Very helpful staff and very good beer, perfect 🙂👍
A. D. R.
The bar and restaurant are inside an historical building which is worth visiting in its own. The interior is pleasant and the music is not loud so you can have a normal conversation. Large selection of drinks. Outside the restaurant there are bike racks.
C. D.
Excellent quality beers with a huge choice including their own micro brew. Always busy but for a good reason. Big place in a historic building with decent food selection, ideal for parties and events.
c. d.
The most incredible roast, the most incredible staff who made sure we had everything. Will 100% be returning, found our new favourite pub in Southampton!
A. S.
You wouldn't think that a converted Titanic museum would make a good pub, but I was very surprised! Unique decoration, and some amazing beers and ales brewed on the premises makes for a great evening. Very helpful and friendly staff, who offer advice on all the beers available.
K. S.
Great place staff very friendly and helpful food fantastic and well worth the money and well dog friendly definitely going again
N. H.
The beer was good and the friendly staff was good so helpful.
h. h.
this place is full of history and good drinks too! excellent food . the staff are very friendly.
plan your visit well , as it is always full (very popular place!)
J. M.
Amazing craft beers, great food, lively atmosphere, top notch service, all in a beautifully decorated old merchant house. Best pub in Southampton!
B. S.
I made a mistake, do not get me wrong, the Staff were amazing, could not be more helpful as my mother is partially disabled, suggested we dine on the upper floor and were kind enough to escort us to the lift and meet us again as we arrived on the 2nd floor, introduced to our waiter and guided to excellent seats with exterior sea front views. I ordered what turned out to be the wrong food for Southampton Prawns, a bit of a joke as they would not qualify for Shrimps and they were still head on and in shells. Not worth the effort of shucking and let the Maitre D aware of my disappointment. She was amazing having spent 2 years on a working visa in New Zealand, she understood where I was coming from and was very sympathetic. Should have had the Pie, she suggested knowing what Kiwi's like. Despite our disappointment, we would return based on the amazing job this magic lady did. The ambiance is top shelf, it is a micro brewery with a grand menu of boutique beers, I will return to sink a few beers and munch on the varied bar snacks at a later date without my Car.
F. B.
Had a lovely roast dinner, the service was fantastic and everyone made us feel at home. Look forward to returning and proud to call it my local pub!
L. R.
This place is amazing. Great beers, friendly staff, delicious food, reasonable prices and I just love how the place is decorated! Definitely worth visiting!
J. P.
Always the spot for a pint. Favourite establishment in Southampton offering some very tasty selection of brews.

Nice place. Good selection of beers. Thumbs up.
R. Z.
Love this pub in very ancient and particular building, what a beauty!
v. b.
Very unique place-lovely food and lovely beers!especially the pineapple one!👍loved it!
K. C.
Went for a Christmas party and was blown away by the venue, such a great atmosphere! Tried Pineapple gin for the first time which was VERY tasty. Would definitely return.
N. W.
Great ale, brewed in this historic building, worth a visit just to look around what was once called "The Wool House". I was a bit disappointed in the food, the menu is a little limited and a bit too "fancy" for my taste, definitely not your normal pub food which, for some, might be perfect.
A. C.
Great atmosphere, great beers (reccomend the sour beer). Bit of a shame traffic can be so loud!
M. S.
Lovely bank, beautiful grass. Beer is excellent, fresh as the daisies I plucked from the ground.
R. N.
Great venue, great beer, great food
R. S.
Nice selection of beers and ciders, with the added bonus of them running an outside BBQ at the time of one of my visits.
Friendly staff and I never found the queue at the bar to ever be excessively long
T. C.
Fantastic old building and they brew their own beer onsite; can be a lot of IPA's. The menu is limited, but all food is generally good. Available for private hire.
e. l. g.
Beautiful building, lots of beers to choose from, the staff is amazing and the atmosphere 10 out of 10
E. M.
Amazing place. Staff and service very good. No rush and relaxing atmosphere. The food is well worth ever penny
N. H.
Large benched seating area outside south facing, with a great beer selection.
Inside is a large stone and wooden beamed feature, a beautiful place to eat hearty British food.
A. C.
A place with lots of history behind, got to try it
A.
Love this place.
The food here is excellent, and the choice of drinks extensive, couple that with the beautiful building, it makes the Dancing Man a must do place to visit.
N. M.
If your looking for a special gift, the brewery tour and lunch is a great idea. We both enjoyed it. Thanks so much Dancing man
P. L.
Nice pub.... I liked the place a lot when I stayed in Soton. I can't say that all beers were my taste but I guess that's the good thing about it. Cheers
D. W.
Really well redeveloped old property that has great menu and impressive range of drinks available. Situated close to the waterfront and walking distance to moorings of small boats and liners.
I. G.
Very good beers brewed on site - an ideal place to stop by for a couple drinks with friends, or to sit and quietly read alone
L. S.
Lovely staff, amazing food and incredible views from the restaurant. Really cosy interior, especially after the sun sets. Would definitely come back!
R. W.
An incredible building filled with incredible craft beers. If craft beer is you thing or not, it’s worth a visit!
d.

S. A.
Great table service would be nice if you could see a beer menu though
J. B.
What a fantastic bar/brewery. Their beers are very nice and the food they do is lovely. Great place to sit and watch the world go by or wait for a ferry!
M. W.
Consistently fabulous beer in a welcoming environment. Knowledgeable patient bartenders even when busy. Exactly perfect for a microbrewery pub
K. K.

D. S. S. (. R.
Stayed here for a pint. It was great.
J. J.
Lovely atmosphere, a place with character and a unique array of pints.
E. J.
Good selection of unique beers in a beautiful building inside and out.
G. H.
Nice and cozy place. Nice food. Welcoming staff. If only they would bring mint sauce instead of fresh mint -) it would get my five star.
P.
Food was okish but a bit basic and lacking in seasoning. Nicely laid out and decorated. Would probably not return unless the food improves.
C. t.
Great service at a busy time bar staff are an absolute crack will come back everytime I'm in Southampton
S. 8.
There are more reasons to like this bar than dislike however the prices seem steep and the service, recently, has not been good with the some members of bar staff in particular being quite miserable.
M. C.
One of Southampton's hidden gem! The place and drinks are all great! Outdoor seating area is a very nice addition
K. M.
Great place to sit outside with a superb beer, in the sunshine and watch the world go by

Wonderful location, excellent food, great choiche of self-brewed beers, friendly service in an awesome atmosphere. Simply geat!
b. r.
Some staff good some not so. Only one m & f toilet in pub but disgusting portaloos outside! Sandwiches good. Beer trendy and expensive.
J. W.
The venue is great, warm good atmosphere, found the seating good, the drink selection was excellent especially if you like beer, good selection, the food is overpriced and frankly not a great standard, so would not recommend as a plate to eat, and staff weren't particularly engaging, so this is a good place to start pre drinks before going out but not much more at the moment.
B. G.
Food, drink, upstairs, bar outside seating, dog friendly
A. M.
Awesome place, great pint, fab atmosphere! The staff spoil it a little - very unfriendly and a poor first impression of Southampton.

(Translated) Great pub. Good food. But most of all it impresses with the various types of beer. Very good dark beer. Friendly atmosphere, great service .. Greetings to the Polish bartenders ... The restaurant is a short distance from the ferry terminal.

(Translated) A very clear tip! Land, like me with a cruise ship in the port (QE 2 quay), it is about a 15-20 minute walk! It is therefore suitable as the start or end point of a sightseeing tour. The restaurant is housed in a historical building that is already worth seeing from the outside! There is a wide selection of home-brewed beers in the pub itself! Including two absolutely recommendable stouts! Soft as butter! A dream...

Butterweich! Ein Traum...

(Translated) On the first occasion to have dinner in Southampton I find myself with a group of friends in this magnificent brewery located in the harbor area.
Easily accessible from the city center it is a favorite destination for young people and not looking for a good beer.
The place is very busy, very welcoming and characteristic.
We order the lamb and the stew with potatoes and cheese fondue with excellent dark beer.
All very good.
I will definitely come back for another dinner.

Tutto molto buono.
Tornerò sicuramente per un'altra cena.

(Translated) Pub with elaborate artisan beer in front of the sea, and with a lot of place outside to paint. It also has a second floor where you can have lunch or dinner. Very well decorated and achieved.
His own elaborate beers are very well received and the price is not disoriented, it looks at 4.5 pounds.
Highly recommended after a tour of Southampton

Pub amb cervesa artesana d'elaboració pròpia davant del mar, i amb molt de lloc a l'exterior per pendre una pinta. També té un segon pis on pots dinar o sopar. Molt ben decorat i aconseguit.
Les seves cerveses d'elaboració pròpia estan molt ben aconseguides i el preu no és desorbitat, unes 4,5 lliures la pinta.
Molt recomanable després de fer un tour per Southampton
