We used to come here quite often, pre-children. Haven't been here to dine in for some years now, so decided to see if anything has changed. I can honestly say it hasn't, the place is still immaculate, very tastefully decorated. The staff are always very pleasant and very attentive, they even remembered us from before which was an amazing touch. The atmosphere is always great, no matter what time you visit, there is always a buzz in the air. The food, is exquisite, always perfectly prepared and wonderfully presented. Some of the best Chinese food you will find for some distance I can honestly say. Well worth a visit if you are after a good meal for a reasonable price in the area.

Our first visit. Amazing ambiance in a full restaurant- so glad we booked! Every dish was delicious and served by attentive and very friendly staff. I can't remember when we were last asked if we were ready for the next course or would like it in 5 or 10 minutes! When we left they made us feel they really would like us to return soon and we would recommend a visit to anyone who enjoys 'a good Chinese' but don't forget to book and be hungry!

OMG the service is unbelievable. Every time I visit whether dining in or takeaway they make me feel so welcome. The owner always goes out of his way to greet you and say goodbye, such little things but go so far. Keep it up you’re the best Chinese in town that’s for sure. Oh and the food is fantastic too.

Very beautiful place. Clean and cannot fault the food. Although one dish was not bought out. My friend was full so didn’t complain. My only other gripe is the price of drinks, £4.20 for a large Diet Coke. But I guess with the cost of living going up this is going to happen.

OMG excellent food, great service, extremely cozy atmosphere. We stay at a hotel nearby, but not happy with their limited menu so decided to come try Water-Margin : best choice we have made. They have set menus for 2+people, plenty choices... Honestly when we got to main menu... We were so full.. Great value for the money and sooo tasty. We saw many people coming for collection also. Such a shame we are not from the area as we would have definitely be their regular weekly customers.

Bit peeved actually, we go for my Dad birthday, and since our last visit they have introduced a lunchtime buffet which wasn't previously available Xmas Eve. So we ordered the usual set menu, none of the staff hesitated or pointed out the buffet would be much cheaper. Stung us for £40 over the cost of what we actually order while everyone around order plate after plate of additional courses. Although they presently very nicely, were polite, i'd say this was terrible service. Very annoyed, but too embarrassed to take up with management after the fact.

My family and I went there to celebrate my grandaughters 21st birthday. The food was fantastic and the staff so helpful and friendly. We provided a birthday cake which they later brought out alight and with the restaurant lights turned out. They then joined in singing Happy birthday. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Tasty food, all seemed freshly made including the spring rolls. Most of us had the vegetarian banquet and the 3 courses were all tasty. There was so much food that we couldn't finish all the mains (that is extremely rare for me). The meat eater highly rated the crispy beef. Only one draught lager - Carlsberg - but it was a nice pint. The prices were generally slightly lower than we were expecting so we intend to return. Good Covid procedures too.

Another really tasty meal. As we sat down we were given fresh and crispy prawn crackers complimentary. We ordered , always do to be honest, the vegetarian feast and it was so lovely. To be fair you really have to like mushrooms and tofu but if you do then this is for you. A huge starter of salt and pepper mushrooms, fried light and airy tofu, seaweed, and spring roll, plus other bits. Then we had veggie "duck" pancakes, plenty of everything. Then as our main (already feeling stuffed) 6 plates of vegetables and tofu, with loads of various mushrooms, with different sauces and textures. All with the most delicious fried rice, I only wish I had more space! Then, as part of the feast coffee or tea, and they kept offering refills - so generous. The staff were efficient and friendly, even through masks you could see the smiles. To my taste this is the best Chinese in Romsey, albeit in North baddesley but so good we walk to it, great for burning all that food on the homeward walk. Plenty of parking, free, and a great menu of all the expected things. All around us people were enjoying meat dishes including some rather scrummy looking ribs! My advice is to give yourself a treat and book an evening out, you will have a wonderful meal and leave with either a full tummy or a doggie bag!

Had set meal for 2 (S2) as a takeaway, again excellent food well prepared, definitely a cut above the average takeaway and well worth paying a little extra for. Have used this restaurant many times in the past and never been disappointed, only used takeaway as Covid restrictions are in place. Portions are really generous you never leave hungry, one day we'll be back to normal!

The food and service here is amazing. I went as part of a big group and we asked the waiter to choose a selection - all of it was incredible and if they saw a dish we liked they would bring out some more as part of the set menu. Lovely atmosphere and lovely staff, will definitely revisit.

This place is amazing, probably the best Chinese I’ve ever eaten. 5 of us visited and decided on the buffet which meant we could order whatever we fancied from the buffet menu (however much we wanted) and gave a real chance to try lots of amazing dishes. The portions were moderately plated which meant only a minimal amount was wasted. Although I was so l full up from all the delicious food, it didn’t feel greasy like your average Chinese. All the staff were so friendly and the service was fantastic, the place was fully booked when we visited which is testament to how popular the place is. Will definitely be returning!

The food was presented excellently and tasted divine. We ordered spring rolls, garlic mushrooms, drunk fish, hicken curry and some steamed rice. The garlic mushrooms were an absolute find. The toffee apple pudding was great also. Free parking and great service.

We had the 'eat all you can buffet' for £19.80. It was superb. The menu was varied and large with a good vegetarian selection, too. The garlic salt and peppered mushrooms were the best I have ever tasted! It was a busy bank holiday but the staff was a happy obliging group with a matriarch, probably the father, overseeing and waitering as well. I observed him giving children lollipops personally which was a lovely touch. We had travelled from Reading to take our son out to eat so didn't know the area. It looks tiny from the outside and the car park was full once we had taken the last place but inside was large. There were tables of all sizes, tablecloths and linen napkins with a heated wet wipe for the hands after the meal. It is certainly a restaurant I would recommend.

*edit below!! * Wow!! I've literally just left and in already writing my review. We are staying in Chilworth manor, visiting from Ringwood, and thought we would give this place a go. By far, the best Chinese I've EVER had. Fresh, tasty and served quickly. Amazing menu with lots of choice and some items you don't always see. The service was outstanding! (I'm NEVER impressed by service). Everyone was very polite and took their time to make sure you were happy. Asked about our stay and took interest in our time down here. Very very happy and will return. *just went back for second visit, food was lovely and massive portions but no longer did the evening buffet which I didn't know before arriving so I spent a fortune. Also was charged £25 for 4 soft drinks?! Disgusting. Wine was only £2.80. Wouldn't come back just for that fact!

The members of staff have always been friendly and helpful to us but we have detected a bit of tension between two females on a couple of occasions (all adds to the fun, I suppose). We have tried 3 set menus so far and have been very impressed with the quality of food and the standard of cooking. Parking is rather tight for medium/large cars during busy periods. Will definitely go to the Water Margin again.

Excellent takeaway food, seems to be just as good as what you get if you were there for a sit down meal in the restaurant. A good price for the amount and quality of food. Friendly staff, and quick service. Pickup only, no delivery. But the wait from ordering to when it's ready to collect is usually only about 20 minutes which is really good.

In local area this is one of the better Chinese restaurants. Food has never been poor. Prices are ok and drink prices are what you would expect. Parking at rear has plenty of room. My only reason not for the full 5 stars is the decor now looks dated and in my humble opinion needs updating.

We have dined here for nearly 14 years and it is our favourite restaurant. The prices don't seem to have increased in all that time, which makes them excellent value for money now (quite pricey in the past). The vegetarian food on the menu is outstanding and so is the service; just the right amount of awareness without being obtrusive. I visited Water Margin on Tuesday 23 July at 8pm, a weekday during term time. I was with two other people. This was my first visit. I used Google Maps to find the restaurant, which was easy and led me straight to the right place. I parked in the restaurant car park, which had plenty of space. The car park was right behind the restaurant. Upon arrival I was greeted by a member of staff at reception who was friendly and welcoming. I had pre-booked a table to avoid any delay on arrival - I was shown straight to my table. The restaurant was a good size with plenty of tables. Had I not pre-booked it appears that I would have been alright just to have turned up but I like to avoid any issues! I booked my table over the phone earlier that evening, which was very simple to do - everything went very smoothly with the booking process. The restaurant comprises of one reasonably sized main dining area with a small bar and toilets. I was well looked after by our waitress, who visited the table often enough to look after our needs and was always on hand if I needed anything. I enjoyed various dishes from the "all you can eat Gourmet Buffet". The food arrived hot, was well presented and tasted good. The restaurant toilets were clean and tidy. I would say this restaurant was on par with other similar restaurants I have visited previously. It was clean and tidy and the staff attentive. The food was perfectly satisfactory and certainly served in good time, was well presented and hot. I enjoyed my visit to Water Margin and would come again if I happened to be in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip. For ease of access I give Water Margin 5 out of 5. It was easy to find the restaurant using Google Maps - parking and getting to the restaurant was simple. For food quality I give Water Margin 4 out of 5. The food was well presented, the right temperature and tasted good. There was a good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. For visitor experience I give Water Margin 4 out of 5. The team were attentive and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and enjoyed the experience. For their facilities I give Water Margin 5 out of 5. The toilets were in a good condition, as you would expect. For value for money I give Water Margin 3 out of 5. For three of us we paid around £105, which included several drinks. Whilst not excessive and I would say broadly in line with other similar restaurants that I have visited, I felt this was expensive. Overall I give Water Margin 4 out of 5 - I enjoyed my visit and would come and visit again if I happened to be in the area.

Came in on a busy Saturday evening with no booking, they managed to squeeze us in but said we'd have to be out by half 8 (we got there at 7). First two courses arrived quickly but waited about half an hour for the main course (eventually arrived at 1920). All the food was absolutely delicious and most of the staff were friendly, only downpoint was having to rush our final course to free the table that in the end wasn't needed by half 8.
