Loved it friendly staff nice and clean, good food. We booked for next Friday. Fish night 2 x Haddock and chips two glasses of wine £20 not bad. We all had haddock chips and peas prefect. With a glass wine spot on worth a visit 5 stars

Lovely pub restaurant, country pub, food delicious, reasonable cost, staff friendly and helpful. Decor of pub is lovely and lots of flowers, hanging baskets outside too. Plenty of parking. We were a family party of 7, food arrived all hot and fresh, everyone enjoyed their food. We will definately be visiting again. Glad we found it, would recommend. We have paid 2 more visits as a couple, every bit as good as the first.

very nice venue that has so much more than can ve seen from the road, excellent menu although limited, the food was excellent and i have no complaints whatsoever. The staff I must say have been the friendliest and most attentive I have met I a long long time so the management need to be congratulate them and be congratulated themselves. large car park but beware the venue appears very quickly on a fast road to take care on approach. wohld highly recommend the hammock and mustard starter.

Booked a table @ 13.00hr 12/02/22 my mother & I were welcomed by warm & friendly staff, shown to our table where we made ourselves comfortable. We were then handed the menu. We ordered drinks then our lunch soon our meal came very well presented by the front of house staff who were very helpful & pleasant. Not been for a little while, very happy we calledin again. Fish Friday is a bargain, 2 fish, chips and mushy peas, with a glass of wine or a j2o, £20. It was really nice and a good size portion, the wine was OK and you could have red, white or rose. This place still has the guest beers on as well, so no problem if you are like me and enjoy a pint. Good atmosphere and the staff were pleasant, clean and comfortable. Not much more you could want.

First time visiting. Table booked for 5.30pm on a Sunday, we were sat down promptly and drinks and food orders taken pretty quickly. That's where the service kind of stopped for a while. Food arrived almost an hour after ordering, we asked for another round of drinks as the food came, we didn't have chance to ask anyone whilst waiting for food as the staff literally never stopped for a second. Within 2 minutes we had another staff member ask if we wanted drinks, 5 minutes after that we'd been table checked twice then nothing again. It was meant to be a two hour booking, by 7.15 we'd only had one course, no one had cleared plates or asked if we wanted any more courses. We had to go ask for the bill at the bar. I will say, the food was incredible, my fillet steak done perfectly, the staff were great but quite obviously there wasn't enough of them to look after each table properly. We'd return again when quieter. Lovely place but quite obviously understaffed for how busy it was which is understandable after everything that's happened and the shortage of people in hospitality but book out tables according to your capabilities.

We are frequent visitors to the Black lake but visited tonight for our sons 21st birthday. Staff were as always very pleasant and attentive even though they were busy.Especially the young lady that served our table who is a credit to you. They all wished my son a Happy Birthday. Food as always was lovely and a slight oversight was rectified quickly with no fuss. They were very accommodating earlier in the day when I arrived arms full with birthday cake and balloons, and the table was set and decorated before our arrival. My only slight issue I have and it is only down to personal taste it can we have some different desserts please maybe a lemon meringue, crème brûlée, or waffles/pancakes. Only a suggestion but overall 10/10 best place local to us for decent food and drink.

Great service. The servers are very warm and welcoming. The food came out well prepared, looked great and tasted even better. High quality ingredients combined with a nice atmosphere, and good service makes this restaurant a place to visit. Visited around 4pm so it was nice and quiet but does get busy during lunch and dinner time. They have a few promos for a few nights of the week. We ordered the spotted "Richard," sticky date pudding, sirloin steak, New York steak, lamb shank, and the fish pie. All were delicious as o tried them all. Enjoy all!!!

This is a true gem of a place we booked here to stopover the night (last minute) on the small but immaculately keeped flat CL site at rear of venue. We had a fabulous welcome and enjoyed a outstanding meal and drinks head of House John-Claude or JC as he is know is a fantastic guy who can't do enough for you all the staff and owners are lovely working to a very high standard obviously would recommend to anyone who enjoys a touch of class at reasonable prices

Average prices I guess, steak was nice, garlic bread had zero garlic taste. Mrs wasn't impressed with her meal. Waitress never came back to take our order for pudding so we paid and left. Extortionate drinks prices. Very warm inside with no windows open. Updated review nothings changed except I think they changed all the staff.

Giving the restaurant it self 5 stars but the service was slow and I had to go up and order drinks and got the impression that the staff were reluctant to take our order even though people came in after us and we're enjoying there meal before us. When the food came out it was nice and tasty, the food and drinks went down a treat it was the waiting times to get served were a let down.

Came here for Friday lunchtime and didn't book but fortunately we got a table for two. We had the fish meal with two glasses of wine and coffee and pudding all for an amazing £36. Great value for money. For you ale lovers they serve Abbots Ale and Old Speckled Hen on tap. Good sized car park at the rear of pub. Nice sized beer garden overlooking the surrounding countryside, great for warm sunny days. At our time of visit we had fantastic service.

Nice place to eat, staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had to eat in the bar as the restaurant was full and we hadn't booked, although we were given the option of waiting for a table. Prices not the cheapest but food was nice and large portions.

My partner and I went for Fish Friday at 1.30pm. It's 2 Fish & Chip meals plus 2 glasses of wine for £20. I thought the food was very good and we didn't have to wait long. I would say the food wasn't excellent but very good value for the price and the portion size for both fish and chips is LARGE. The fish batter was particularly nice. The venue itself is delightful and spacious and the waiting staff were very efficient. Judging by the nearly full car park, the Black Lake Inn is a popular venue, even on a Friday lunchtime! We recommend the food.

Weve been here numerous times and enjoyed it but today seemed far from that,we had a friendly welcome when we first went in and taken to our seats to await the rest of the party(as we were a party of 9). We ordered our drinks which took 20 minutes to arrive ,but a part of the order was wrong,so the waitress went to fix the mistake,but we were left waiting until another waitress asked if our order was now right,this waitress brought the correct drink. The rest of the party came and ordered their drinks and we were then asked if we were ready to order(well no the rest of the party hadn't looked at the menu yet) 5 minutes later we ordered our meals as we felt rushed by the waitress,an hour later we had our food but mine was cold so was sent back,informing again of my food allergy,my replacement came 15 minutes later(with gluten on) so was again sent back. This upset the whole of our party,I finally got my meal 40 minutes after everyone else.and they had nearly finished theirs,which made it awkward for me. We felt that without the lovely manager who has made our night everytime we have gone ,there was no organisation in there. This is really upsetting as its always been a great place. We were not offered any discount or an apology either .

Used to be one of my go to places to eat, but last couple of times very disappointed ordered the Gammon steak had thicker bacon rashers, it was under cooked chips under cooked peas under cooked.gave us a free main course. Chefs and managers need to realise there is not really any excuse for sending out sub standard food.if it’s not right don’t serve it.just giving money of although a nice gesture does not cut it, and no cook or chef worth his salt should send out food out when THEY KNOW it’s not right.

The Black Lake Inn had been recommended to us so we decided to go for dinner one evening. The staff were all really friendly and everything looked nice and clean. The wait for the main was about 30 minutes or so which is about average. I just had a simple cheese and onion baguette with homemade chips, salad and coleslaw. It was really nice but as the baguette was warm the cheese melted which I wasn't too keen on. My partner ordered the Mediterranean Chicken Skewers but when it come it was just one skewer with peppers, chunks of red onion and only 3 pieces of chicken. Unfortunately this did not fulfill my partners appetite and seemed a bit over priced at nearly £14. We decided not to stay for dessert.

Our main meals were delicious and competitively priced. However apart from taking and serving our only drinks and food orders the 3 front of house staff on duty showed no further interest in us as a customer. Having waited for over 30 minutes to have of main course plates cleared, disappointedly we gave up on the idea of desserts and coffee.

We managed to get a table booked under the eat out to help out scheme which we were thrilled about. Upon entering the building its all laid out and all the staff are very aware of all the safety measures in place. Everyone had their own paper menus which were disposed of after, all cutlery, napkins and salt and vinegar was all sealed in a plastic bag so nobody else could touch your cutlery. Our food was fantastic, given how busy they were, it wasnt a long wait and it was perfect and hot. We have visited other food places in current circumstances and I do have to say, that the safety measures don't come close to anywhere else I've been. Well done the black lake Inn! Thankyou we would definitely recommend you.

As we walked in the door we had an extremely warm welcome by all the staff. We had brought my mother in law out for lunch who is elderly and parchally blind, she was trying to find a particular sauce from the selection on the table and immediately one of the staff helped her. This is just an average chain pub. The staff are lively and they have to be with the size of the place. But if you've come to enjoy the food and ambiance it isn't for you. The food is basic and not fresh just pre made and warmed up but for the price and portion size more than reasonable. I can't really say anything else. It's not going to be a memorable meal but it's adequate and why average is an honest review.

We for lunch with my sister food was very good and lovely puddings. Staff are friendly and you are looked after. After lunch went over to sit on settee with a lovely coffee and we stayed for over 4 hours. Owner looked after us and was made to feel at home. We really enjoyed eating here. The staff were very accommodating on a busy Sunday evening when we turned up without having booked and we were able to have a drink until a table became ready. Food was great and not overproced in our opinion. We were in the area for a few days so we decided to come back on our last evening and had another very enjoyable evening. The staff were very attentive and the food served quickly. I had the mixed grill and there was so much that I couldn't quite finish it, which rarely happens.

We visited The Black Lake Restaurant yesterday 15 July - our first meal out since Lockdown. The staff were very welcoming, organised and calm - explained the set-up and made it a very relaxing visit. Plus the food was excellent even though it was a reduced menu.

Wetherspoons version much better value for money and a proper pie !!

I just love the black lake ,I call in there for lunch after putting flowers on my mother grave in nearby fulford and the food is so really delicious . I have the surf turf and cluck , steak, chicken, scampi ,home cooked chips and salad . I did call back later in October/November 2012 and this blinking place was closed for yet another refit... I went to the black lake tonight for a meal when i walked in i thought this is going to be expensive and not much cop.how wrong was i, the meal i ordered was fantastic average price and good portions.I would recommend this pub to anyone who enjoys good surroundings good food and good staff.
