Visited the Bird in Hand last night for a Christmas meal from their seasonal menu. Brilliant food, absolutely outstanding menu with trimmings included. Plenty of meat on the plate, big Yorkshires, all the gravy you need, extra veg, cauliflower cheese. I could go on and on. Brilliant drinks variety from teas to lagers to ciders on draught, served by professional bar staff. The service was brilliant, our waitress kept us up to date on the status of our food as they accommodated our party of 13 which is not an easy feat. The atmosphere in the Bird in Hand is second to none. Exactly the kind of bar you want to be sat in with a pint. The drinks are flowing and laughs are echoing through the rooms, next to a lovely log fire with music playing in the background. Ask them about the free taxi service, where they can meet you at a spot for pickup. The most convenient and straight forward part of the whole night! In an economy where running this kind of establishment is getting harder and harder to do, I'd say they've nailed it. I'd recommend this pub to anyone. 5⭐ 👏

Called on Sunday evening. The lady at the desk (sorry didn't get your name) met us at the door and showed us immediately to our table (4 of us). She was patient and also attentive all the time we were there and always with a smile. The main courses were fantastic, the chicken curry was sensational, decent portion, home made chips and great flavour. The cheese cake desserts we had - the chef that made those is properly talented. The presentation was among the best I've seen in my 50+ years on the planet and having enjoyed many a great meal both privately and through my job. It tasted as good as it looked too. Great value, great atmosphere, we'll be returning of course, please change nothing about what you do, your attention to detail and high standards were definitely not lost on us, well done everyone at the Bird in Hand 😁👌👌👌👌

such a lovely warm atmosphere. and friendly staff and so polite. the food was the best I have ever had .I had gammon it was 1/2 inch thick and about 9-10 inches round the chips were proper chips and enough for 2 . wife had curry and rice and chips she said was lovely and very tasty. will be visiting again soon I would recommend 100% keep it up don't get many pubs that serve lovely food like you get in this pub

Amazing food as always! The carvery was amazing, meat that melted in your mouth and a good selection of vegetables. Our children ordered food from the main menu which they thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were fantastic and made sure we all sat down for food together. Fantastic service and quality food. We won’t be going anywhere else.

After a few years in the doldrums the Bird in Hand is back with a vengeance! I've visited for a couple of lunches with partner and elderly mother - both times a great experience. The waiting staff are delightful and attentive with nothing too much trouble. There is a good selection of beers and the wine has not disappointed. The food, mainly locally sourced, has been of an excellent quality - of particular note is the slow-braised blade of beef and the bass fillets - the Chef clearly knows his stuff (never trust a skinny Chef!). Great to see the Bird in Hand doing well - their success is deserved, and we'll be back soon!

It was my first visit to The Bird in Hand and I was very impressed when I went inside although the view when you sat outside was lovely. I especially liked the background music they played, the atmosphere was good and all the staff were so pleasant. The choice and quality of beer and wines were excellent. Had a really enjoyable evening all round and will definitely be returning there soon.

The bird in hand hosted my car clubs Christmas party last night! Fantastic atmosphere, very good prices, food was amazing and the customer service was bang on! As a chef myself I know how difficult it can be to keep up this time of year especially when busier than anticipated, food was a little slow but that didn't stop everyone having a great night and was worth the wait for the quality! Very well presented, fantastic flavour and clearly all freshly cooked 😍

Dropped in on our way home . Both of us had the lamb burger 🍔 I had a pint and my partner had a glass of wine. Service was good. The burgers were excellent and came with a mound of chips , homemade onion rings and a coleslaw. It was cosy and warm on a cold Wednesday night. Will definitely "dropping in" again.

Booked a table here last Thursday for 7.30pm. We walked in and were greeted straight away by a lovely lady with purple hair (sorry! Didn't get your name!!). We arrived 10 minutes early but there was no fuss, we weren't asked to wait at the bar, we were seated immediately. We were served by 2 lovely young ladies. Very polite & helpful. Our drinks arrived within minutes of ordering and there was no fuss when we asked for a little more time to peruse the menu. The menu was fantastic! Such a wide variety of meals. We're not vegetarian but there was a lovely vegetarian menu for those who are. We decided on something from the specials board. We both ordered the Lamb shoulder served on a bed of pommes puree with carrots, tenderstem broccoli & French beans. It came with a wine & redcurrant jous. The food was outstanding!! 10/10. The lamb was cooked to perfection, skin was crispy & the meat fell apart as soon as we put our knife and fork into it! The vegetables were cooked beautifully and the wine & redcurrant jous was so velvety & delicious! The servings were generous! There was a lovely dessert menu but we couldn't fit anything else in! Next time!! The 2 drinks came to just under £8.00 which may be a little more pricey than some other places. My partner had a pint of Moretti & I had a pint of Theakstons. The main meals were £22.50 each which may seem expensive but I can assure you, I would happily pay that price time & time again for the quality of the food we received! We had a really lovely evening, food was outstanding & all the staff were friendly & helpful. We will definitely be going back to The Bird in Hand! Please give this lovely pub & restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed! Thank you to all the staff at the Bird in Hand. It was our belated birthday dinner and we had a lovely evening. This is a lovely place normally but a meal for a Christmas Dinner turned into a 3 hour marathon. Service appalling an hour in between courses. Service fir drinks took half an hour after sitting down at a booking made weeks ago for about 25 older people who quite honestly were starving when food delivered. 🙃

Table of 13 that had pre booked and given a pre order. Our main meals took an hour this was after 2 of our group had a starter but still a long wait with no explanation why. Also 2 of the main meals were forgotten so by the time they were cooked and brought out the rest of the group had finished eating. These meals were taken off the bill but still poor service especially as we had pre ordered all our meals. The food itself was ok but nothing special and I would not recommend the lamb and mint burger or the boar burger as they are a bit tasteless. The home made chips are delicious. We won’t be visiting again as overall poor service and just ok food.

We visited here last week, had to come again the next day and then the last day of our holiday. There was a large group of us and we ALL loved our meals. Huuuuge portions and at reasonable prices. A massive choice including a large vegetarian range, beef, chicken, curry (cooked to your preference) and fish that was simply the best (baked salmon) I have ever had. The service? Top notch. Couldn't do enough for us. We were made to feel so welcome. Massive thanks to Brandie, Andrew and the team there. Cracking cocktail menu too. Cannot recommend Bird in the Hand enough. This is worth travelling a distance for. There is also a lovely outside area with plenty of safe parking. Behaved dogs are also welcome. Enjoy! You won't regret it:-) reason

One of those places where you need an app to order food and drink. App very confusing took us 30 minutes to sort it out. Once sorted food and drink came fairly quickly - nothing special, won't be rushing back. Apparently you don't have to use the app, a pity nobody bothered to tell us that even after I commented about it. As for the food the hake was overcooked and if the chips were freshly cooked I would be very surprised.

Absolutely loved it brilliant atmosphere very good service as I was planning a Wake as my husband died 2wks ago. The staff are very caring and helpful. I had a drink with a friend I brought along with me and he kindly paid for the drinks so I don't know how much the cost was but I would highly recommend this venue.

The food was truly amazing, with plenty of it and cooked to perfection. The blade of beef I ordered recently was so tender it was falling apart. The customer service has been first class too, with staff going over and above to make sure customers have a good experience. The food was absolutely fantastic no complaints from anyone and the service was excellent Ffion could not have been more helpful and at the end of the evening we joined the karaoke session downstairs and met some very nice people. We popped in for a late lunch and both decided on the 2 courses for £10.95 menu. I had southern fried chicken goujons and my wife opted for the vegetable samosas to start. Both were delicious! For mains I had ham egg and chips and my wife went for lemon and garlic chicken breast. My ham and eggs was a very generous portion of ham, 2 eggs, homemade chips and peas. My wife's portion was equally generous. Represented very good value for money. We would highly recommend.

Out and about shopping with my mum we decided to call for some lunch. I gave my details for track and trace and we had our temperatures taken. We were given a table in the restaurant and this was distanced well from other customers. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had chicken curry and was impressed with the amount of chicken. Both our meals were delicious and it was a treat to have 'proper' chips (not the frozen variety). Good value for money and staff were fabulous, attentive and smiley. The best Sunday roast I've ever had! The homemade tomato soup and that dessert...were insane! Staff was very friendly and attentive. I've heard the weekly menu is incredibly good. It is hard to believe the estate of the pub prior all the work that has been done! It is a place to have a great meal and stay for hours! Highly recommended!

Under new ownership so I can see the rating has been hit from back when it was a chain run pub as those reviews are still on here. Which is a shame as it is much improved over what it used to be. The food is fresh and home-cooked. A good choice on the menu and portion sizes are plenty. Reasonably priced as well. Want to come back and try some of the themed nights - Monday (Curry), Tuesday (Mexican) and Thursday (Steak), as well as carvery on a Sunday.

Carvery on Sunday excellent 10/10. Veg hot and freshly made. Good choice of veg and nut roast very tasty. Good service on Sunday. Saturday night was hectic. Waiters were disorganised and not in control. Missing item of food . Had to ask three times for drinks until it was finally delivered. Meat in fish sauce served with Sea Bass and I don't eat meat so meal ruined.

I was a bit dubious about going for a meal after reading the reviews. On arrival Staff were very friendly, and meals didn't take that long to arrive. Only downfall was the burger my partner had. Hot, tasty food, served fast and at very reasonable prices. This is part of the Sizzling Pub chain. Free car parking opposite on the other side of the road. Nice log fire in the winter. Always enjoyed my food here. I don't think there's a beer garden or kids play area. It's ideal for a quick, inexpensive, tasty meal and a nice drink.

Went for the curry night as a table of 8, curry wasnt very nice, tasted like cheap jars, the sides were nice. Curry wasn't being checked or topped up, so kept running out and wasnt being replaced. Service was slow and staff had to be reminded that they'd forgotten our drinks. FOH staff very inexperienced and didnt see any management leading them at all. Great to see this place back open! Might still try the normal menu but wouldn't fancy the curry night again.
