My favourite restaurant chain in Yorkshire. Each Tapas is nicely portioned and filled with flavour. Prices are genuine as well. The only issue with the Goodramgate store is that the restaurant area is a bit too dimly lit. Service was good.

Best tapas I've ever had. We ordered 8 dishes between us as we just couldn't choose, there was so much for veggies, and there was plenty, we were totally full at the end so were super impressed. The fish croquettes in particular were delicious, and we adored the potato's. I have to say, the staff were amazing. So friendly and attentive and we honestly thought the price was extremely reasonable. We would definitely return. Ps, try the brownie, outstanding!!

Just saw this place looking around the town, fortunate to get in at short notice. You know you've chosen well when the place is booked up on a Monday and more and more people keep coming in to find it's full! Opted for a sharing board to start with, which was very nice. But the star was the beautiful seafood paella, which was very tasty and a generous portion for two to share. Would definitely recommend and would go again if we were in York for longer.

Really lovely tapas food, with a good selection of veggie dishes. Ordered 5 dishes to share. 4 were excellent, one was not nice ...the butternut squash, which had a very odd taste. We did let our waitress know as we're not fussy eaters at all, and said it's the only dish on the menu she doesn't like, so maybe it's not just us! Service was good, and brownie for desert was lovely. Wine I wanted was out of stock, but she recommended another one which was excellent. Restaurant itself was nice but very very warm, and the windows were old sash ones, so not open much, so overall was quite stuffy. Would visit again, but probably try another branch. The Fossgate one looked a bit nicer.

A serendipitous meeting led us to find out that there was another Ambiente after we visited the Fossgate site in March. In a less industrial decor we once again had a selection of great Tapas and sherry. The dates wrapped in bacon and stuffed with Picos blue cheese were a great starter. The mussels were very highly flavoured with a great Picada, the secreto iberico also served with top notch Romescu sauce and finally the Albondigas in a rich densely smokey tomato and olive sauce. The portobello mushrooms were superb too. Staff knowledge of both food and sherry good. Great service and brigade turn out attractive as well as delicious food.

Ordered the harissa and lemon lentil stew, salmon and haddock croquetas and a chicken and chorizo paella. For drinks, I tried the red sangria while my partner had the strawberry cider. Both of us loved the food! We couldn't finish the paella so had to do a takeaway. Can't wait to be back to try the other dishes on the menu!

We had an amazing paella here this evening. Tried to get a table last night but fully booked but managed to book for this evening. Our food was fabulous, piping hot and really really tasty. Worth waiting for. We were comparing the paella with some we have had in Spain, and tonight's was definitely the best. The staff were really friendly and attentive as well. Did feel the upstairs rooms needed some TLC but this didn't reflect on the amazing food.

We were offered the opportunity to sit at the bar to eat, and were delighted as the manager (who was the bartender too on this occasion) kept us both entertained and very well informed about the sherries, wine and food we were ordering. Came for dinner here with my boyfriend on Wednesday night and the food, service, and sherry was faultless! Staff were so attentive and friendly, and the tapas was to die for. We tried 2 different 'flights' of sherry - the introduction flight and the creams & moscatel flight. The moscatel sherry was so good that we might just have to buy a bottle ourselves! Tried to come back again for lunch today but unfortunately (for us!) they were fully booked. Glad to see so many other people appreciating and loving this place as much as we did. We'll definitely be back when we eventually visit York again!

I had seen good reviews online and so we popped along on the off chance. Luckily there was a table available with the caveat that we had to be out by 7.30. The food was delicious, we discovered new dishes we hadn't tried before and some of the more familiar ones did not disappoint. The usual recommendation of 3 to 4 plates per person is perhaps a bit generous here, or maybe we are just not big eaters🤔. Definitely worth a visit, would go again, but maybe book just incase.

Great place! I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, both at lunch and in the evening. We ordered a range of the tapas, and previously I tried their paella, it was all excellent. The server was very welcoming, enthusiastic, and able to help us, offering a wine suggestion which was great as he obviously knows what he's talking about!

Lovely tapas! Managed to get in without booking, but I would suggest booking in future. Staff were great and food was excellent, although we clearly ordered far too much (3 plates each), could probably have gotten away with one or two less as the portions were generous. The Patatas Bravas were particularly fantastic!

The food was fantastic but we sat for over 30 mins before anyone took our drinks order and at the end of the meal after another 30 mins of waiting for the bill (we did ask for it) we gave up went downstairs and got it ourselves. We have been a few times in the last few years. The food is fresh and delicious and it never disappoints! It was a particularly hot day and they came with a big bowl of water for our dog! We didn’t get round to talking pictures of all the dishes as it went down rather quickly! But this is the dessert: Crema catalana. Highly recommend a visit here if you want a taste of Spain! We particularly liked the Patatas and Chorizo. Could have ordered 3 of those!! We’ll be back again soon!

We had never had tapas before, but the staff here was fantastic, guiding us and offering useful recommendations all the while. I won’t list everything we tried, but my favorites were queso de cabra (soft, warm goat cheese with a divine cloud in a crisp shell) and gambas al ajillo (prawns in garlic oil served with pillowy focaccia). Our b&b had a deal with Ambiente that earned us a free bottle of Tio Pepe sherry, which was good, rather like white wine. But I had never had quality sherry before and was left curious for more. Emma, our server, pointed me towards their no 7 sherry flight since I asked about sweet sherry. WOW. This blew my mind. I loved all three, but I really must find Pedro Ximenez must find back home in America. Many thanks to Ambiente for making our first tapas experience so grand!

100% recommend Ambiente Tapas! We ordered multiple tapas - our favourites were the caramelized chorizo and patatas, the pork belly, jamon croquettes, blue cheese and walnut stuffed Portobello mushrooms, Kong prawns and the beef cheeks! We also got the Moroccan lamb, roasted cauliflower and the Marrakech chicken. Service was amazing, the restaurant was quite quiet which was nice, and we also enjoyed a bottle of red. Delicious!

Excellent tapas, great menu, excellent wine list for such a small yet cozy place, but one not to miss: the cheesecake!!, no kidding best cheesecake I tasted in the WORLD ! forget NYC, Montreal or L.A. did them all and more, this is michelin star grade. My wife and I ate at Ambiente Tapas on three separate occasions this week. We took advantage of the lunchtime 3 tapas deal at £10.95. We found that 3 tapas between two people was enough with the addition of a side dish of bread and olive oil dip at £1.95. The food and the overall experience was excellent. The two female staff were also friendly, smiley and attentive. What more could you ask for. Highly recommended. We will definitely return at Christmas when we visit York again.

Within 30 mins of walking into the restaurant are nibbles and all of our tapas dishes were served. Great place to eat as you can order a such or as little as you want. Good Wine selection and good service; staff are always really chatty and pleasant. The 'Wheel of Pintxos' is a great choice for a couple for lunch. And they stock Licor 43; a perfect post - tapas tipple!

Food was fantastic! Great choice of dishes, really it's great. But was really let down by the waitress, while ordering via the Web link is fine, our waitress really pushed doing this rather than through her, while the others on the floor offered people the option to use the Web link or them. Also had to wait over 15 minutes for a drink to be brought to the table. Compulsory service charge added to the bill, this was less than I'd normally give even with bad service but would have felt better if this was optional.

Had a lovely meal here the other night. We ordered an assortment of tapas dishes, and thoroughly enjoyed everything. Sent back clean plates. Only negative is that it isn't very disabled friendly (my husband uses a wheelchair) - you either have to go upstairs or sit at a high table with bar stools. This restaurant is lovely, great atmosphere (even though it was a Monday night) and the food was divine. Would definitely recommend to anyone, especially vegans. The menu is clearly labeled for allergens and dietary requirements. We had a vegan starter platter and four vegan tapas dishes between the two of us and we were stuffed! The only thing to note is, the building is not very accessible if you have mobility issues, the one on Fossgate would be easier to navigate.

Brilliant tapas place - been twice now and both times were outstanding. Would happily just eat the patatas bravas and roast cauliflower, but plenty of other good stuff on the menu too. In terms of drinks we enjoyed the rosé sangria, but they also do a good range of sherries from dry ones through to super-sweet PX sherry.

Had a takeaway for 4 during a recent trip to York. Food was superb, full of flavour and good size portions. The Meat Paella was delicious and was enough food for about 6 people alone. Veg tapas was also very tasty and worth trying even if you’re not a veggie. Restaurant also looked like a lovely place to spend the evening when we finally rid ourselves of the scourge of Covid.

First time of trying Ambiente, and why have I missed out all these years! The food is amazing, and there's surprisingly a lot of it! Full of flavour, an array of choice, and Ambiente covers all allergies (my little girl has an egg allergy). We had the meat meal deal for 2 and added a few extras, this was more than enough for 4 people. The bonus of this was getting to eat the left overs for lunch the next day! I can't wait for the restaurants to reopen so that we can experience the atmosphere and food as one. If you're looking for a recommendation of what to order for your next lockdown meal, treat or takeaway, Ambiente is the perfect choice. Enjoy!

Food was lovely but the customer service was adequate at best which was a shame. We had booked a table for 7pm but when we arrived we were told there were no tables available due to a double booking and we would have to eat at the bar, which was a narrow ledge in front of the window (not ideal for the romantic meal we had booked in for). Ten minutes later a couple walked in who had not booked and were promptly shown to a table!!! We then watched as other people who had prebooked were turbed away and sent to another restaurant in the chain as there were no tables available, this is very poor booking management. Upon receiving the Bill there was a 10% service charge that had been automatically added which quite frankly was an insult considering the fact we couldn't even have a table that we had pre-booked. Very disappointed.

The food was incredible – our favourite of the 6 meals out we ate last week, we had a selection of the meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and really struggled to choose what we had because we thought everything sounded great. However, the service was awful from one of the waitresses – we ordered a wine, a beer and a bottle of water, we were told that the wine I ordered wasn’t available and she would pop back to find out what I wanted as an alternative in a few minutes – I had to get up and go to the bar to order it after 10 minutes, I then had to chase the water as well. When it came to ordering my second glass, I asked for the same as I had previously had – the waitress said she didn’t like to look at our previous order but instead preferred to try and remember what we previously had, in the end I asked her to just look as whilst she was pondering, our food was going to go cold. She was also coughing regularly which was a bit off putting. After our meals we were offered desert but were too full, so we tried to get the bill but, in the end we ran out of patience and just headed round to the bar – the girl at the bar found our waitress who turned up with a bill with a 10% service charge on it, which she told us about. We ALWAYS leave a tip but I asked her to take it off. All in all, the food was incredible, restaurant in a central location and the rest of the staff were let down by this one waitress – we would visit again and just have our fingers crossed we got a different waitress!

We were in York for the weekend looking for some nice food, lots of different dishes rather than a big meal. I spotted this place on the web and the reviews were generally good, except for one, but we needn't have worried as the food was perfect. We sat in the bar area as they were fully booked in the restaurant and we had various dishes. The pork and the hake were very nice along with the banana and butternut squash curry. The squid needs some improvement though. The wine was very complimentary and the deserts were first class. Good range of sherries too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and would surely go there again next time we're in York.

Lovely atmosphere! A group of 5 of us went for a birthday meal. We were given a private corner & the waitress was funny & charming without being intrusive. I don't need white gloves hovering over my table, but I had finished my cocktail and waited 20 mins before I even had an opportunity to order a glass of wine. My daughter and I ate here on 8 August and thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the decor and warm welcome ; water was brought immediately without asking and we were also asked re allergies. The manager and all staff were very friendly and explained the menus. There was a large a la carte selection divided into meat, fish and vegetable with a slightly trimmed list for set menu lunch for a lower price. I love the tapas style with a range of smaller dishes that allows one to order something out of the ordinary without worrying about spoiling a meal if its not to your taste. I had two meat dishes including a delicious potato and chorizo dish in an amazing sauce, pork belly that was just perfect, crispy, moist and the revelation of aubergine fritters from the veggie side that were light but really satisfying. Everything was cooked really well and seven dishes between the two of us was plenty. A larger group could have a field day and order lots more from across the menu. I thought the bill was very reasonable for our experience, and I also like that service wasn't included on the final bill as so many places automatically add 12.5% nowadays. This place is fantastic!!! I brought my Boyfriend here about 5 months ago as he'd never tried tapas before, and I'd been here before with my parents for lunch and knew it was a great place. We weren't let down. The menu was so much fun to choose from as we both found things we were excited to try, and when it all came out (we'd ordered 9 dishes) everything looked amazing and tasted even better. We shared a great bottle of wine from an extensive drinks menu, and the service was 2nd to none. We'd made it in at around 9pm and at no point did we feel rushed or pressured to be quick or hurry. We had a great time talking with our waiter who made some great recommendations, and when came back last week (around 5 months after our first visit) he remembered us instantly and asked how we'd been. You won't be let down by this great tapas restaurant.

6 of us chose Ambiente for lunch where the tapas quality is a cut above and the service swift. I have two criticisms; they ballsed up our dessert order and it took us to point out the error in the delivery and in the bill resulting in one of our party going without. Secondly, the waiter was an 'over-sharer' and wanted to tell us too much about his life which, to be frank, is not why we went there. More attention to the order and less to conversation would have been better but can't fault the quality of the food particularly the Chorizo stew.

The tapas menu changes pretty regularly so there is always something new to try. Divided into three sections for ease of choice, meat, fish, vegetarian. They have Estrella Galicia on tap. The front bar area is nice and great for a snack with a beer - their calamari is superb with a garlic based dip. There's a deal on tapas as well, 3 for 9.95. If you want a larger meal you can head upstairs to the restaurant. The staff are also friendly and don't mind a little chat if that's what you like to do. They also will happily leave you alone unless you need a drink in which case they often notice just before you run out which is great.

Top Tapas .... but .... It's been a while since eating at a tapas restaurant so I thought it was time to renew the acquaintance. Choice of 2 Ambiente locations in York - so opted for the smaller. This probably was a good idea but not so in practice when sitting upstairs with too many tables in limited space. Some really good looking sherries piqued interest straightaway. But initial drinks order failed to materialize which was a bit of a bummer given it was a birthday date. Never mind. On with foccacia and oil/vinegar. Loved this although it was on the salty side. My meatballs arrived in time to be consumed along with a silky smooth rosé. Beetroot salad was a bit on the tough side but fish croquettes and other veggie dishes were ace. The down side to the night ? Staff (dis)organisation needs looking at. Bit of left / right hand. Multiple people taking orders and lack of attention to detail. Okay so they're busy. It's Saturday. But we're their customers. Why should we have to wait 10 minutes to get the bill ? Maybe up the ambient temperature a bit ? Make us feel wanted.

Ambiente has 2 restaurants in York. This one and Fossgate. Fossgate is the newest and the most spacious. The food is great and the service is warm and welcoming. For us, there are too many chairs and tables crammed into Goodramgate Ambiente which wasn't comfortable. You feel like you are sat on a stranger's knee and cannot have a conversation above whisper without sharing it with all around you.

A friend had recommended this, and we weren't disappointed - my daughter said they were the best tapas she'd ever eaten and I thought they were well up to Spanish standards, putting my local tapas restaurant to shame. The food had an imaginative twist (eg pimientos de Wigginton, meatballs with lemongrass, squid specials) and was obviously freshly prepared - no pre-prepared catering portions here, thank goodness! The wine-list was extensive, reasonably priced and naturally had a strong Spanish emphasis. The separate sherry list (they're justifiably passionate about sherry) was astonishing, with different examples of each style: Fino, Manzanilla, Amontillado, Oloroso, Palo Cortado, sweet...). The staff - who now include a member of the Barbadillo sherry family - were enthusiastic, friendly and knew their stuff (including the ingredients of less familiar dishes). We had a most enjoyable meal, but did have to ask for an itemized bill (should be standard, surely?). This was handwritten (perhaps they didn't have an electronic till), and showed that we had seven tapas, plus dipping bread and more-ish olives for £32. The drinks bill included a bottle of white Maccabeo (£13.95) - very good for what was in effect a house wine - and £4.50 each for two 100ml glasses of special sherry. I preferred the La Guita Manzanilla to the unfiltered Tio Pepe En Rama, which wasn't as fresh as it might be, as it needs to be drunk within three months and was bottled on 8 April this year (we were eating in mid-August). But it was great to be able to try it, as it's a very limited release. We enjoyed our visit so much that we came back to the bar section the next night to sample the draught Estrella Asturiana beer and some more wonderful sherry - a Barbadillo Manzanilla and a rare Palo Cortado, both of which my daughter (a sherry novice) enjoyed greatly; although I only had sips, so did I. Overall, then, a thoroughly recommended experience, and excellent value for money. Whatever you do, do take the opportunity of trying some of their marvellous sherry, but be warned that you may end up drinking and spending more than you were planning! Although they have a branch in Leeds, I very much hope they'll be opening another one near me...
