Great restaurant! Today, January 30, 2022, we were in a company of 4 people and everyone ordered different dishes. A rare case: in this restaurant we all liked all 4 dishes. We ordered the following dishes: steak with egg and chips, smoked salmon and shrimp pie with mashed potatoes and cheese, chicken skewers and a burger with chips. In my opinion everything was very tasty. I'm quite picky about the quality of food, but I take my hat off to this restaurant. I strongly recommend: go there to eat, you will not regret it. And I also want to say about the work of the staff: beyond praise! Everything was cooked in 15 minutes, different workers were interested in how we liked it, is everything in order with us? We enjoyed dining there very much. Recommend!

Loved it. We visited Bills on a Sunday morning, we were greeted by the staff and got given a choice of where to sit. The staff were so friendly and when we asked to not have black pudding (does anyone eat that?) The waited told us he's happy to swap it for more bacon or anything else. We didn't expect that as most places remove things but charge full price so we were happy to be given the option to swap. The food was delicious and really well presented. I mean just look at the photo! Well worth the money, great overall experience. The only thing I'd say is I wasn't a fan of sour dough bread, as I found it really tough to cut or eat but other than that its flawless.

Had a lovely brunch here on Sunday. They were very busy so the service was a little slow but we had a friendly welcome. All the food was excellent and delivered hot and tasty. Seeds on the eggs are a nice touch. The toilets were clean, right at the back of the restaurant. No masks in sight but anti bac gel on the tables. The golden latte was pretty but just tastes of warm coconut milk.

Waited to be seated but service when sat was quick. The waitress that served us was particularly nice and polite to us. Food was good for adult but child portion was really small. 3 very small chicken bites and fries for the buttermilk chicken option. Most restaurants offer a small and big kids option but Bill's don't. Pancakes they have on offer for kids throughout the summer was definitely more substantial. Overall nice atmosphere and good service just lacking in portion sizes for children.

Beautiful place and lovely staff. We had burgers, they were ok, a bit pricey I thought for what they were. A service charge is added to the bill, while the service charge is optional, it was not mentioned at all or made obvious, just indicated on the menu in rather small prints.

A lovely summer dining experience. I went for the 2 course option and was very impressed: garlic butter minute steak with rosemary fries tingled the taste buds, and an apple pie sundae left a refreshing zing in my mouth. The staff were friendly and offered great suggestions on food and drink. Would definitely come again!

Great place. Not an extensive menu, but it made it easier to choose 😊. The staff we're really polite & friendly, especially the young lad waiting our table, a future journalist. The food was fab, my husband said the vegan burger was amazing, and he's a picky sod that moans at everything! Let your kiddies try the flowerpot for dessert; they can eat the whole thing 😃. Will definitely be going back.

Very easy to find. I'd recommend you book first as it gets busy. Very comfortable restaurant with nice decor and lighting music at a sensible level. I came here two nights running and wasn't disappointed. The team were excellent very friendly and approachable. Great selection of food and drink. Great value for money. Booked ahead, lots of people were turned away on the day. Took an hour before breakfast arrived, very busy, staff running around, finished food just in time for the 90 minute slot (during school half-term holiday). Venue was very nice, all very clean, food was just the right quantity and tasted good, nice to be offered water as well. Staff very good, especially Jessica. There is an optional suggested service charge of 12.5%. In all it was excellent, just the waiting time...

Probably the best burger I've ever had. It was truly incredible. The break was not too hard nor smooth and in the perfect amount not to outweight the meat and the sauce. The burger was easy to eat with a fork and knif as well as with Hand. It doesnt fall apart. You cannot be decieved

Went for breakfast, really nice food, good service. Server knew we were in a rush so made sure our food came out in a timely manner. Great with the gluten free options. Server also gave me extra avocado as he wasn't happy with the serving I got. Happy overall that I returned the following day.

The restaurant is lovely. A good mix of new and rustic decor. This time our food was quite under par. The food took over half an hour to come out, and obviously had been sat on the pass for a while. The egg yolks were solid, the mushrooms were cold. The toast was rock solid. A solid crusty layer over the beans...... The staff were very quick to sort it out with money off the bill. But would possibly think twice about eating in Bill's 'York' again. As generally Bill's is pretty good.

Just had a wonderful lunch with my partner and little dog at Bills in York. The staff were super friendly and even brought our dog some water and some treats and have him a little cuddle. Food was outstanding!!! Every part of the meal was ridiculously tasty!! Will definitely be returning!😁

Had a look at the menu outside in passing early Friday afternoon. Spotted the seafood linguine on it. Was straight in there. Unfortunately, found out that it's only available after 5pm. However, without hesitation, the waiter offered to ask the kitchen staff if they could do it still, which he did. Again, unfortunately they couldn't as they hadn't done the prep as it's an evening menu meal, which was completely understandable. Stayed and had a different seafood starter and main anyway. The meal was delicious and the service was above and beyond.

I've always enjoyed trips to Bill's. Thus time was just the same. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. The only downside was they forgot one starter we'd ordered and it took two attempts to sort, but they sorted it with good cheer. I'd definitely come again and recommend.

Nice restaurant in the middle of York. We were seated promptly by a friendly and helpful waiter. All of the service was fast and considerate, without being pushy or obsequious. The food was excellent, beautifully cooked and well presented. We started with olives, a selection of breads and some really delicious, miniature peppers. For main courses we had the spiced chicken burger and the dirty vegan burger. We didn't have room for a sweet. We both had a bottle of Peroni to drink and the whole meal was under £35; very reasonable, especially for such good food. One final thing ; if you pay the optional service charge, it does NOT go to the waiters. Better to give them a cash tip on the quiet.

Ate a late breakfast/ early brunch here. We both had a breakfast with all the trimmings, which was tasty. We also both ordered tea and a smoothie, which felt very healthy whilst drinking! We did have one issue, and that was with one of the smoothies. The taste was simply 'off fruit' when we both tried it, but when e asked for another one, we were told they were made in batches, so another would just taste the same! I'm not sure what that says about their smoothies, or that as soon as we said smoothie the waitress knew what we were about to say. But, overall a tasty place for breakfast in a good location. There are plenty of tables and the atmosphere is suitable for couples, families or business.

Bills is such a good place. The food is good the service is also good and it is always an enjoyable experience to dine in here. A table of 14 guests all got served at the same time for breakfast with lots of changes to meals. Everything was correct and delicious. Very good service and would happily eat here again.

Bills used to be really good and whilst the ambience of this restaurant is very pleasant the food feels just a little bit plain. It was once a great place and really cutting edge food but now there are lots of places with food offerings more or less the same but with a far less expensive price. Service is ok without being overbearing but staff should be reminded to have their private conversations out of earshot of customers and staff gatherings behind the bar I'm sure is not a good idea.

We went to Bill's on the last night of our stay in York and it was the perfect place to end the trip! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was chilled and the staff were great. Went to York for the day and hadn't booked anywhere so just on the off-chance we popped in Bill's to see if they had space and luckily they had a table for the 2 of us ! We both ordered eggs benedict off the menu as it's a favourite of ours and it appeared very quickly ( even before the drinks ) and it was delicious, probably the best I've ever had ! Once our savoury stomachs were satisfied we decided to give our dessert stomachs a run out and ordered the salted caramel cheesecake and opted for the coconut ice cream accompaniment.....it was absolutely awesome ! Staff were attentive without being intrusive and were very friendly and I can't reccomend this place enough. Our next visit to York will definitely contain a visit but I'll book to make sure !

Always love a Bill's for a reliable meal and popped into this one while were in York. We were hungry for a late lunch/early tea at 4.00 and Bill's came to the rescue. There seemed to be a tad fewer choices on the menu then I remember, but I went for a shawarma with halloumi and my partner had steak and eggs. Both fine. Service was brilliant as usual and our only issue was with the music that we were told was ' selected by head office.' Really?? The girl serving us admitted she didn't like it either and she was way younger than us. At least we could leave, she was stuck with it. It honestly spoiled our time there and we might have stayed longer and had pudding but we couldn't wait to get out.

I ordered the Pan Fried Chicken with Wild Mushrooms and this full of flavour, the chicken was slightly overcooked though so was a little bit dry. My partner ordered the Bill’s Classic Burger cooked medium and this was cooked perfectly, nothing to complain about. The bad points; - Staff are not wearing masks properly, they have their noises sticking out of the top.(some are not wearing any.) - Remove the service charge that is automatically added to the bill. We asked our server where this goes and isn't directly to the staff serving you. This isn't America, let us decide if we want to tip or not. How I Rate: I normally rate 1-4, with 5 reserved for ’Exceptional’, i.e. “deviating from the norm” or “truly worthy of note”. * 4 stars = Very good * 3 stars = Good * 2 stars = Average or acceptable * 1 stars = Poor

Great place for Breakfast in York, in this retro feel restaurant with plenty of options for having a light continental, to a plateful of sausage, bacon and eggs or a pancakes stack with crispy bacon and maple syrup. Booking ahead is best especially at the weekend, limited walk-ins. Kids menu is good too.

Me and my partner were just walking past looking for a place for breakfast and we stumbled upon Bill’s. The breakfast was very good and the service from the staff was excellent. They were very friendly and not over bearing. Nothing was too much trouble. We so happened to return later that day for an evening meal. Food was good and again the service was brilliant. We would like to say a special shout out to Lauren and Rosie who both we’re excellent. They always seemed to be smiling and seem very customer focused which is a breath of fresh air! The whole team were great and we couldn’t knock the service we were provided. The food was great - hats off to the chef! 😊

Visited Tuesday 18th August. Family of 4, 2A 2C. Ate from the all day set menu. Started with halloumi sticks and chicken dumplings and for mains had burger, halloumi burger and macoroni cheese. All excellent especially the dipping sauce for the dumplings. Drink included in the set menu so all had the pink lemonade. Instead of desert kids enjoyed the Orio milkshake. Couldn't fault any of it. All staff very courteous. Would highly recommend if in york.

Very disappointed. Slow to be served. Starters were tasty but sides we ordered with the mains arrived with them. Half Roast chicken main was so dry I couldn’t swallow it without a water chaser. Tables far to close together. I know the pandemic is all but over but I was nearer the bloke next to me than to my fella opposite me! 12.5% service charge added on your bill is also taking the p1$s. States optional but who wants to be THAT person requesting it be taken off. Never again Bill!

Good, tasty food. I like the way Bills adds its unique spin on the classics. I had the calamari as a starter, which was good, but could have been crisper. Nduja meatballs for main, which was good, but very spicy (as to be expected with nduja). Then for dessert I had the mini cinnamon doughnuts, which were really delicious. Afterwards I was completely stuffed! The staff were really friendly and efficient. We did have to wait a long time between the starters and the mains, that was the only negative really, however, as we had 3 courses we didn't really mind. Also had Bills beer which is really good, just wish it came as a pint. Thanks Bill's!

Travelled 2 hours to come here as heard big things. Took over 40 minutes to get our desert as the waiter didn’t send it to the kitchen, ended up missing our next reservation which we paid £20 for and spent NYE in a hotel. We normally eat at Bill's for breakfast but thought we'd try it out for dinner as breakfast was included with our hotel booking. Joses was a great server and attentive. Unfortunately, our food came out before our drinks which sat on the bar for 15 minutes, which was annoying as there were plenty of other staff that could have brought them over to the table as Joses was busy on his/our section. I asked for my cocktail to be remade as it was clearly watered down whilst sat on the bar, this was done with lots of apologies. Food was actually very nice and plenty enough for all of us but unfortunately my little girls sausages were very well done and not surprised she left most of them. I would go back as it's a great restaurant change but looks like I caught them on a not so good as usual day.

We had breakfast here over the last weekend. Once seated, we waited a while to be asked for our drinks and food order but we understood as the restaurant was busy. We were a large group and ordered a mix of coffee's and juices and had a range of the breakfasts. I've never been to a restaurant before where my full English breakfast arrived before my cappuccino, but that's what happened here. We'd all practically finished our food before our drinks arrived which was highly disappointing. The food itself was delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed it, it's just a shame the service wasn't as up to scratch.

The restaurant looks a bit like it is one of a chain but I don't think it is. There is a varied menu including the standard burgers but also a range of other choices including the fish pie I had. A large dish of fish: cod, prawn, and salmon in potato and cheese sauce. There is also a wide range of alcoholic (cocktails) and soft drinks - I had a nice berry smoothie. The food was spot on. For £12.50 for the 6oz sirloin, it was cooked so perfectly you'd forget it was a slightly cheaper cut. The mushroom sauce was again spot on. The Bills Flowerpot was a great light desert and a bit of fun. The only negative is that the "bills beer" is relatively boring for a unique beer, easy enough to order something else though. Those complaining about the service charge added. It's a suggestion, it's up to you at the end of the day.

Me and my wife visited here first time today just out of the blue, I had the burger and mac n cheese and my wife had the soup and garlic bread. Sadly my wife's bread tasted more of rosemary than garlic and the carrot and lentil soup more of lentils. But my burger was incredibly tasty and juicey, perfectly cooked and seasoned. A wonderful dining experience at Bills in York. Never been to a Bills before this and the food was just delicious. We just turned up wanting a table but unfortunately for us, they were fully booked as it was on an “Eat out to help out” day. But after a bit of shuffling around and after mentioning that it was our wedding anniversary, they managed to squeeze us in. Leila, our server, was brilliant, she gave us both got a complimentary Prosecco before our meals and wished us a “happy anniversary”. The service was quick and friendly and all of the staff were great. As I’ve already said, the food was delicious and we will definitely be dining at our local Bills in Leicester and Nottingham and again when we visit York in October. Lovely place, I came here with my OH after a day of shopping, we had a drink and a bite to eat. My OH ordered the seabass and stated it was the best he had in a long time. I had the minute steak with truffle sauce and it was lovely, no bones in the fish and no fat on the steak and cooked to my liking. Anson who greated us was truly welcoming and commented that he loved my t-shirt which was the grim reaper flipping the bird. Would recommend this place to anyone who wanted to come and have a drink and a bite to eat. Children are also welcome. Lovely, welcoming place.

Possibly one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Me and my friends came in late afternoon for desserts and drinks. The interior design was gorgeous and the place was very clean. We were sat close to the disabled toilet/baby change toilet which was perfect as my friend had her 10 week old baby. They also didn't mind her breastfeeding which can be daunting for a new mum. They brought a candle to our table and were patient whilst we all decided what to eat - they also catered for my intolerances and were very reasonably priced, yet so delicious! Our server was Josh who was wonderful - so friendly and good fun. He made the experience one hundred times better for all of us and we had a good giggle. Although we didn't have mains, the food looked and smelled delicious too. Unfortunately we were all too full - it's a shame we live so far away from here as it would quickly become our favourite place!

This is an optional charge, so you can ask for it to be removed, & the extra apparently would go to the staff, but I'd much rather tip myself than have it added by the establishment.

I ordered the signature burger, a three layered burger that was divine, and the girl ordered salmon, which she said was very nice as well. The prices are competitive based on similar food in York, but the quality feels better than other places I have visited in the past. There were also plenty of families in, some of which talked to the staff like they were regulars, which probably means it is good value for family units. The options are slim but varied, but I think this made deciding what to eat easier. There are also a lot of drink choices, the standard are there, such as coke and lemonade, but there are plenty enough for you to be adventurous and try something new, both alcoholic and not. I would definitely recommend trying Bill's out!

We were out for a walk and decided to eat here. We hadn't booked and were advised we'd need to be gone to free up the table for a 7.30 booking - this gave us just under 90 mins so was OK. It took quite a while for the food to arrive, and it seemed at least one table who arrived after us got their food before us. When the food arrived it was tasty and fresh. We didn't have any vouchers or such like and some places had deals on so I'd say it was on the expensive side, but not too bad. They seemed to be keeping tables empty to maintain distancing although the staff were not wearing face masks. They had hand gel on the tables and near the toilets. As a first venture into a restaurant since lockdown it was overall a pleasant experience.

Wasn’t thoroughly impressed with my experience at Bill’s York. I invited family for a meal, and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a set menu which made things simple. Unfortunately this is where it went down hill... The menu indicated that a bottle of wine priced at 12£ would be allowed if two or more people took the set menu. As all of us were, we asked for it. But, apparently it only applies if the people take all three courses and not just two. Regardless, we ordered a bottle of wine and a glass of water to share between three people. It took 15-20 minutes to arrive, shortly followed by the starter. Food was good but nothing to get exited about. After another 10 minute wait, we decided to order another bottle of wine. 20 minutes passed before our main meal arrived and we had to re-request the wine which still had not arrived. The mains were cleared promptly and the final dessert arrived within 5 minutes. All in all, the spacing of the courses was ludicrous. Not something I would expect. The nail in the coffin was the 10% service charge added to the bill. It’s rather assuming to think that a service charge can just be added without prior consent, especially given the fact that it was a poor experience overall. I didn’t give feedback directly to the manager, but I hope this serves as constructive feedback for future service.

We had the misfortune of spilling a glass of red wine all over ourselves. Thankfully the staff were very quick to attend and help us. and the wine was replaced without a todo. We were welcomed and seated straight away, with drinks being taken care of in good time. Unfortunately the service went downhill from there - few pleasantries (or very quiet ones), staff not aware of daily special, lack of enthusiasm and didn't seem particularly friendly. Food arrived in good time and was the usual (tastey) standard and quite large portions, but no one came back to check everything was OK. Gents toilets need fixing - leaking everywhere with buckets overflowing... Service charge was slapped on without any question to if we wanted to tip - on this occaision a tip was not deserved. Payment was a gloomy experience and we were glad to leave.

I used to eat here more often when I was on maternity leave because they were so great when I was breastfeeding my baby, they made me feel so welcome and relaxed, and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely one of the most baby friendly restaurants I've been in. The food is so good, and the drinks menu is great as well. It's still a go to place when I'm looking for somewhere to eat.

Service was super slow: had to wait for over 20 mins just for our drinks (only got them after we reminded a waitress), our food took ages to come out (a table of people who came in 15 minutes after us had already finished their starters before I was even able to get the waitresses attention to ask where our food was). We asked for starters and mains to come out all together as only one of us was having a starter, but that didn't happen so one of us had to sit and wait while the other ate their starter. This also meant that we had to wait for ages before we got our mains... Which were mediocre at best. I asked for no sauce in my burger, but it came with sauce anyway. By the time we'd finished our meals we'd been there for over 90 minutes. I usually have desert instead of a starter, but I couldn't bear to have to wait another forty minutes for it so we paid and left. I got dessert elsewhere. The only reason I gave three stars instead of two is because the staff were lovely and polite, despite the fact that they were not attentive. They also very kindly brought us complimentary drinks because of the delay with our food.

Being Coeliac and dairy intolerant, finding somewhere to eat out can be a challenge but not here. Two visits in the same week, different staff but same high level of service and consideration. Wonderful food and my dishes specially marked. The manager checked everything with the chef before putting my order through. Not a wine drinker so discussed which cocktail I would enjoy best with the manager and he was spot on! Day 1, Truffaloes to start, spiced cauliflower and falafel bowl for mains. Day 2, Miso Salmon salad and rhubarb crumble with vegan ice cream after. Pineapple Express cocktail.

Bill's is an above average high Street restaurant chain. The menu is varied and the staff are generally very helpful. I'll be honest, this one was a little odd in that everyone was crammed into the front of the restaurant (I assume to make it look as popular as possible to people passing by) but there were many empty tables towards the rear. This meant that it was quite loud and needlessly cramped. For example, my girlfriend had to move her food out of the way of another customer just so they could access the table next to us. Overall, the food was standard Bill's quality and the staff were polite.

My husband and I visited Bill's in York July 31st. On entry we were greeted and seated and given menus. Kathy our waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful making sure we were comfortable. The food we chose from an excellent menu was served in no time. The food was to die for. Kathy made us feel like royalty. Kathy was extremely helpful and a lovely cheerful person. Nothing was a bother to her. Our every need catered for. Thank you to Bill's for lovely food and drink and a special thank you to our waitress Kathy. While staying at Judges Court Hotel we noticed that Bill's York Restaurant was just down the street so my wife and I decided to go there for breakfast. We both ordered their version of a full English, Bill's Breakfast, and a pot of tea. Perhaps it was an off day, but we were rather unimpressed by what we received. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine, and nothing was wrong with it, but we found it to be rather lackluster in terms of flavor. The service was fantastic, and the restaurant was comfortable and we enjoyed the laid back environment, but the breakfast was just average.

Nice food, OK price, good service. Only thing that let it down for me was the 10 service charge, if you want to pay it. So to sum up if I don't want to pay the service charge I have to demand a new bill without it and the embarrassment for doing so, bad show. Are British waiters on the 3 pound an hour American waiters are? No, we have a minimum wage and I'll be dammed if I'm going back. I don't mind paying a tip for them to do their job, I don't like being pressured into it, it should be an option not be belittled if you dare say no. I was really annoyed with this.

Average meal, the restaurant prices didn’t reflect the style. Prices were a bit pricey for what was provided, however it was a mixture of modern, quirky but also smart. They had a great drinks menu with a lot of variety. However I ordered the chicken katsu curry, the curry sauce was abit too sweet and fragrant. The rice was more like Indian rice than sticky rice which a traditional katsu curry comes with. Good restaurant for families and group bookings, we felt abit out of place being in a couple having a date night.
