Lovely food. Predominantly Peshawri cuisine but they also have a few other Pakistani dishes; all food can be set to your preferred level of spice and hotness. In my York visit, I didn't find any better desi restaurant.

Banging food, got the breakfast, was very filling and tasted amazing, reminded me of Pakistan. Will go again. Staff were amazing, asked how the food was and made sure we were all happy. The interior was decorated very well and had a very cosy look

Absolutely gem of a place.... We were in the local area, and on the way back to London, a quick search and the reviews drew us here.
We were seated by Ragnar…yes the Viking named host at an Indian…. But wait… he explained the menu, and we found out that this was a family run business, the main chef being his wife from the north eastern park of Pakistan. The menu was perfect sized, and Ragnar recommended a few things after asking about what type food we were looking for. The biryani was just being cooked, but were recommended the “Ami Kadoo with Nan” (bottle gourd) as the biryani was still being cooked….. enjoyed that as starters.
Also the spice was adjusted to taste. Chicken Biryani was fragrant & flavoursome. Lamb Bhoona was on the bone (with the marrow as a treat)… amazing food… shame we don’t live close by, highly recommend this place.
Amazing to see a small family run place with such a warm welcome, and amazing food!!!
Well done to Ragnar & Farhana for venturing into this business, I hope you flourish!!!

Had Kabuli Pulao with chicken (takeaway). Top stars for how it tasted but will have been even better with either lamb or beef meat. Subtle Afghan style minimalist decor inside with the Farsi/Dari song ‘Man Aamadeh am’ playing in the background. For those who know Urdu/Hindi this song is the original version of ‘Dil khoya khoya’. So yes, great atmosphere and friendly staff. If they were to ever introduce Chapli Kebabs and Tikkas, I’m sure a few dozen of us here around York will not have to go to Leeds for those items. Will definitely visit again with family and try some of their other items on their limited(ish) menu. This place was like a breath of fresh air for me and I will love to see them grow. All the very best!
Visit 2:
Visiting Chutni is like coming home to family. The warm welcoming hosts, true to their origins, always make you feel special. They are passionate about what they do and always eager to improve and bring in more variety. Dare I say their version of the Kabuli Pulao with mouth watering tender soft meat is a much healthier, much less greasy and less salty one of the original recipe. Something you’d expect when it’s cooked at home by loved ones up in the North-western frontiers of Pakistan and Afghanistan. By the way, that was one pleasantly interesting twist on the peri-peri chicken and we quite liked that too. And the girls loved your ice cream. Great hospitality. Genuine folk serving genuine food made with love and care. Bear in mind it takes a while though because it’s not microwaved food. Their decor, ambiance and the melodic Afghan/Pashtun/Iranian music playing in the background, all this make it a pleasant wait. We will be visiting soon for the halwa poori and channa breakfast.

BEST PLACE FOR FOOD IN YORK! Had such an amazing experience with my family. Each dish had its own authentic, unique taste and the staff are so lovely! The decor is also very beautiful, perfect to celebrate an occasion too. Definitely recommend!! Wish I could score higher, will definitely be returning 🥰

The vegetarian option for the breakfast is outstanding! The food was served with great care and a comforting hospitality.
On the other hand, for the dinner option, the Palao rice with lamb and the chicken Malai were very good ! The flavour and the spices were balanced accordingly to give a great experience for us :).
I would definitely bring friends over for a small gathering and enjoy the food together.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa!!! My people!! Must say it was lovely surprise, didn’t really know before going in, thought it would be an Indian restaurant, as it was a spur of the moment choice. But after seeing the menu was really excited to try all the traditional Pashtun food, must say it didn’t disappoint, will be recommending to family members, also thanks for the kahwa and great hospitality, we will definitely be back.

Wow. Amazing cuisine. If your a foodie then you need to taste these dishes. The smoked aubergine was delicious. I could tell the food was prepared with love, time and precision. Service was friendly and personal, as you would expect from a family run restaurant.

Even though the menu was simple to choose from, the flavours in the few dishes we ordered was just fantastic.
The best chicken curry that I have had in a long time..
Friendly hospitality, enriched ambience and good food - we will definitely go back and totally recommend..
