If you're within York visiting or have lived there for years, I would highly recommend checking out Döner Summer. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff. The inside of the restaurant looked calm and welcoming. We decided to take our food to go, and was asked to wait within the comfy seating area, frequently updated with how long our food was going to be. Upon tasting the food, I was met with a rich assortment of flavours which made me crave for more once I had finished. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is for the pricing in relation to portion size, had to have something else to eat after due to me being a bug eater. However overall I would highly recommend you check this place out.

We went here for lunch on a weekend and it was great. We booked ahead and although it was a windy and rainy day the outside seating was well sheltered and well heated with hanging overhead heaters, to the point we could take our coats off. The food was absolutely fantastic, we could not recommend it more! The portions were huge and very filling, great value for money. We will definitely go again!

Just behind the minster and the City Wall Walk and well worth seeking out. Gorgeous Berlin style kebabs, everything vegan. I'm not used to so much choice, it was genuinely a bit overwhelming. Nice staff, great food, nice location. Unusual "outside but make it feel like inside" set-up, it felt strange to sit outside in February but the patio heaters made it feel weirdly like a holiday. The food was honestly incredible. Huge portions, pickles were spot on. Mysterious, luminous but delicious sauces- the Korean style sauce in particular was incredible. Meat-eating boyfriend had the Bad Girl Kebab with the doner and garlic chili chick'n, I had the Berlin and Korean Teller Fries to share. There's "Loaded fries" and then there's this. Small but well thought out drink selection, and really good value in a city that doesn't have the hugest street food scene.

We came here just on a whim after walking past it and absolutely loved it! The decor was so cute and such a nice set up with large tables and really gorgeous scenery. We came when it was sunny but the heaters above the table would mean you could come even if the weather wasn’t amazing. We were over the moon with how much choice there was and we were both super happy with the food- it was delicious and would definitely be coming back!

Incredible food, not only was it the best vegan burger I've ever had. It even beats most meat burgers I've had! They have a fantastic offer of just £9.95 for a burger, fries and selection of sodas! And lovely members of staff, in a beautiful garden (with an overhead heat lamp). This will definitely not be my last time here!

I love the messy street food mixed with very unique and classy cocktail aesthetic. The food was amazing, carefully put together. My only suggestion would be to change the serving presentation as it’s difficult to eat with a knife and fork due to the paper ripping underneath. It’s also tricky to eat with fingers due to the way it’s laid out.

The food looked absolutely amazing but it was pretty tasteless compared to authentic birria. The dips and salsa were nice, overall it was pretty expensive for three small tacos and I probably wouldn't visit again.

The best vegan place in York! This was our first stop on our York Self Guided Vegan Food Tour, wish we'd come here last! My parents recently went plant based and nervous to eat out anywhere for fear of not finding a decent menu, however this place has loads to choose from - great tasting food and drinks and lovely garden to sit in! Thanks we will be back! 👍

Delicious (but a bit expensive) cocktails. The food was really tasty and fresh. The only thing lacking for me was experienced staff. They were lovely - but a bit nervous and jumpy, and didn't get our next drinks order completely correct and caused confusion offering different flavour ice creams - which it turned out they only did vanilla ice cream and the flavour offering was just the sauce. Miscommunication is fine but this could have been easily described when we asked about desert.

This place looked initially like a hairdressers from outside, all the seating is outside at the back. Vegan kebabs burgers etc served in disposable containers. Good selection of beers and cocktails. My honey chicken was pretty realistic. My husband's burger was abit strange but if your vegan it's definitely worth a visit.

The fried chicken parma thing (with flat bread) is amazing, although they don't give you the big chili's which was very sad. The fried chicken in honey butter is insane and I've ordered it so many times now and can't stop thinking about it. I now want it for breakfast. Also tater tots are great. The new place is super lush, and feels so spacious and comfortable and love that I feel like I'm in nature! We asked for extra pickles and slaw which weren't on the menu and the staff were so lovely and accomodating. Can't wait to go back and stuff my face more.

I'd wanted to try Donner Summer for a while, sadly there's not one in Liverpool (yet!) so when I was in York I made sure I visited. We booked ahead of time but there did seem to be walk in availability, the staff were very friendly and got us sat down right away. It was a warm day and we were sat outside which is a really nicely done space. Our server was really attentive (but not overly) and gave us some personal recommendations when we asked. You're pretty spoilt for choice with the menu, everything we ordered was a hit, I especially loved the flavours in the Korean Teller Tray. The chick'n had a really great texture, not too spongey or chewy as it sometimes can be. Would definitely recommend whether you're vegan or not.

Trip through to York today catch up with our Son , yes he works here but we have eaten at various Vegan restaurants with him before. He booked us in as it was busy, we were greeted by friendly staff were Laura looked after us. As i like the traditional Doner kebab i was pointed in the direction of 'BAD GIRL KEBAB on Turkish pied bread' & a side of skin on fries x2 me & Son & 2 pints of Great Northern lager 4.3%. The wife had 'make it a combo platter' (buffalo hot) with pinicolado 😋 Well the food came and i asked how they make the doner look like doner, they use a supplement called seitan 🤔 all i can say as a meat eater WOW this was fantastic, tasty colourful (salad dressing) presentation 👍🏻 not saying i'd give meat up but what a meal i would not hesitate to eat here again. How who and what made the owner think of this well done bravo. If your in the vicinity of several DONER SUMER eatery's York, Leeds , Hull, Manchester on my advise get in you will not be dissapointed 10 out of 10 😋😁

I've always loved doner summer and been a very regular customer over the last couple of years, but I have to say, we think they have gone down hill. I wasn't keen on the new Korean bbq 2.0. I've tried a few of the meals and I don't think they are as good. The portions are smaller, and more expensive. It's definitely not our favourite takeaway anymore

As a non-vegan, I can't help but rave about the food from Döner Summer! It is probably my favourite street food place I've been to. Honestly, the fact that they nail the taste and texture of the faux meat is the least part of the story. All their dishes are delicious, generously portioned, and look absolutely scrumptious! Where other places might've stopped at a few pickles and a generic salad, here you get a veritable bouquet of fresh greens, spring onions, seeds, beans, cabbage, etc depending on the dish. The presentation is fantastic, making you eager to chow down. One note of caution: good food takes time and depending how busy they are, there might be a bit of a wait for everything to be ready. So enjoy your drink (they offer a selection of good craft beers) and wait to get called up. If you're in a rush for the bus, maybe pick a different time to visit. Another note: their menu changes up. I'm sad to have missed out on their frankfurters (hope they come back!) but made it in time to try the honey butter chick'n (in the pic). So visit often!

We discovered Doner Summer at Spark tonight! What a great alternative to your normal fast food places! We had the Korean BBQ teller which had plenty of fresh vegetables and warm chicken pieces and sat on a bed of garlic fries. The portions are great and plenty of choice on the menu. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Will return again and try some of the salads on offer!!

Beautiful place, wonderful staff and don't even get me started on the food quality. Ordered the classic fried chicken with chips and had to pause for a second as it tasted amazing! Honestly couldn't tell it wasn't real meat. All the amazing flavour of junk food with amazing quality and no harm to animals. They were also well accommodated for me, a person using a mobility aid, as there was plenty of space for me to move around and a very accessible toilet. Could not ask for better they were so kind and the food was the best vegan food I've eaten in a long time

I visited with my two children and the food was universally excellent. The staff were super friendly and went the extra mile, not just in interactions with ourselves, but noticeably with other tables as well. There was a wide selection of drinks, although I guess my only suggested improvement would be to include an ale (or bitter) on the drinks menu - there were plenty of canned IPAs, but nothing more traditional such as Doom Bar (which is vegan). Would highly recommend, although do bear in mind this is pure junk food - there are no healthy options on the menu!

The food is delicious and I often have takeaway from the Leeds branch. However I thought the portions when eating in seemed a bit smaller than the takeaway offering (unless it’s just variation between branches). The service was a bit slow even though we visited on a Sunday afternoon which wasn’t too busy - we waited almost 30 min for our drinks and after finishing our meal, over 15 min for the bill. The garden itself is gorgeous and I’d definitely be visiting again when in York.

Deceptively spacious! There's a lovely large shady terrace to the back of the restaurant where we ate, which you can't really see from the outside. Service was friendly and efficient, kebabs delicious and imaginative with a great choice of drinks including cocktails. Good value for money and we even liked the music. I've been to 3 of the doner summer chains now and they're all good! However the York and Hull service at DS is soooo much quicker than Leeds! Must admit I do love the outside inside look going on at the York DS. Absolutely beautiful! Food was great and service excellent. My only negative about DS as a whole is that I'm not very keen on their sugar free drink range, not really a fan...

Best vegan junk food ever… and I mean it. Loved Doner Summer ever since it was at Spark and now at their new home on Gillygate, it’s going from strength to strength. Massive fan of the fried chicken and Berlin Bad Girl. Obvs need some garlic fries too. Great pick me up when I feel I need to get down and dirty with some junk food (with no need for any dead animals). If you’re not veggie/vegan, don’t discount it… you don’t miss out on anything! LOVE IT

Just tried the Berliner kebab and was really impressed; flavours were great, and unlike most vegan places, there was plenty of food. Also nice that everything came in cardboard and foil rather than plastic/polystyrene. Fries were a bit grim, but that might be to do with the 45 minutes they spent in the Deliveroo rider's bag

We came here on my birthday and we were served by Lewis who was so friendly and chatty, and answered all of our questions. It was sunny and he let us move to a table with some more shade. We got a Pina colada, the fried chicken and parmesan tater tots, and the Korean BBQ kebab with fries and it was AMAZING!! The portions were massive and we were a bit fragile from the night before so they gave us some boxes to take it home so we didn't miss out. Thank you Lewis for looking after us ☺️

Once deliveroo went down while I ordered and they even called us up to tell us and offer us to come and collect and gave us extra goodies:) The vegan wings are my favourite takeaway food and the different sauces and flavours always brings something new. One of the best vegan fast food stalls that I have ever been to! So flavoursome, hardly any grease, an abundance of fresh vegetables and delicious flavours! Can recommend to both meat eaters and vegetarian/vegan!

Our sever was named maya and despite being rushed off of her feet she really took her time to care for us as a table which is really appreciated. We went to York for 24 hours and ate here twice 😂 it was amazing both times. I loved the garlic and chilli sauce. The loaded chips (Teller Trays) were lussssssh! The burger was good and we had the wraps too which were also well tasty. So many gorgeous flavours that I was thrilled to still be able to taste for hours after. It’s happy dance worty grub. I feel sad there are none of these down south. Please come to Southampton or Salisbury or somewhere near there! It was BANGIN.
