Reviews of Forest

I looked up the best places to eat before I arrived in York, and this was always in the top lists. Am Instagrammers paradise as it's one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants I have been to.
Staff were very accommodating and managed to find us a table in the hideaway which was a private room. We hadn't booked as it was our first night here.
I had the scallops and prawns for starters, which whetted my appetite perfectly. Not too much food and just enough to get me famished for my main. The prawns were delicious and the scallops melted in the mouth.
For my main I had the belly pork, which was served with a creamy mash and a form of sauerkraut although I can't remember how it was exactly described on the menu. The pork itself was incredible. The right amount of crackling, and lovely and tender. The mash, sauerkraut, and gravy perfectly complimented it too.
And considering all of this the bill was not too expensive, under £30 for each of our party. Well worth the visit, particularly if you're trying to impress someone!

Second time there and didn't disappoint! The staff are friendly and welcoming. The menu has a something for everyone and the atmosphere is delightful! They were able to fit us in without booking as well, which was a great bonus!

Was looking for a place to have lunch after exploring York and came across this place.
Had our dog with us which was no problem.
Beautifully decorated interior with a great menu.
The staff were very friendly and professional and gave my dog water and biscuits.
The food we had was excellent.
Overall a great experience in a fantastic place with excellent food and service.
Cheers.

Really good food in a relaxing quaint/different atmosphere. Staff were funny (could have been the hot weather) but they were very good and helpful.
For the middle of York the reasonably varied menu wasn't over-priced either.
Would I go back - undoubtedly yes!

Gorgeous little restaurant, we sat in the little courtyard it was beautiful. The food was great, gorgeous cocktails and the service was excellent... thank you to Rosa ❤ who gained a new friend (our dog!) Highly recommended.

Very friendly staff. Food was okay (mains a bit small), overall nice place! Great deserts! Had the roast beef and most of us were very surprised at the size of the star of the show: The beef. Seemed like a shaving of a cow and the veggies were not great. Cauliflower cheese was burned and the rest overcooked. Maybe a bad day in the kitchen.

Lovely little hotel stayed for 2 nights very clean ,stayed on the very top floor in the rafters.the room was small but compact the bathroom was very small you sit on the toilet and you can wash your feet in the shower lol .it's no good for people who have trouble with stairs there's a lot of them .it's in the hart of york everything is round the corner about 15 muns from the train station breakfast was fabulous I got poached eggs on toast they were done spot on .my husband got the full English and that looked lovely aswell

My wife and I had tried to have breakfast here a few times during our stay but always jam packed! Finally on Friday we got a table! The pancakes were an usual style and blooming lovely! They were filling and tasted great! 100% recommended….. worth booking though as very popular at any time of day or evening!
