Overall a 10/10 experience. Staff were really experience and professional the entire evening and have top quality service. Food was absolutely unbelievable. lobster was on point. Had flavour and quality and cooked world class. Decent amount of meat for a lobster and a really good price compared to the area. Will definitely be going back there again to try the rest of the menu.

Really good food, I had the seafood mixed grill and each piece of fish and seafood was cooked to perfection. The pork belly was succulent, with a crispy crackly skin. Service was great. There was one minor problem, there was no toilet paper in the ladies but it wouldn't put me off going again

My family and I enjoyed our lobsters 🦞. Only negative were the sizes. Really small. My daughter classified them as an extra large shrimp 🦐, they tasted good but I had much better. I was disappointed with the size first and the taste second. Its lobster so that was the only bonus for us. Imagine after dinner we were all still hungry that's how small the sizes were. For the price they could of just offer some more sides or a larger portion of chips. The waitress Freya service was outstanding.

Visited 27/10/2021 Our Last night in York and fancied treating ourselves, so opted for sea food, was originally to be seated next to the door but asked for somewhere further in as it was a cold evening. All in all was not disappointed with the meal or the venue, just would have liked bit more on the seafood grill to justify the cost. The steamed megrim was very nice but be warned, it’s a boney fish, and difficult to extract them all. Hope you find this review helpful. Recommended. 👍🏻

Fanciest place I've been too and it's lovely! Food is amazing I had seabass with samphire and dauphinoise potatoes and my partner got the seafood mix grill I tried the oysters but they certainly aren't to my taste, partner loved them though! staff are very nice and attentive👍🏼 Definitely visit again.😁

Had a great dinner! Started with the salt and pepper squid, I ordered the prawn linguine, and my friend ordered risotto, and we both had a green salad as well. Everything was delicious, well prepared, fresh. Good drinks too! Seemed a little short-staffed but the staff was friendly and service was still good. Thanks for the great meal!

Lovely dining experience. Visited on Bank Holiday Monday and had a table reservation. It was very quiet. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Good choice on the menu, but there were no oysters on the night we visited. I was surprised to see no Mussels on the menu at all, much to my daughter's disappointment as she was so looking forward to them. The restaurant is in a beautiful victorian building which was clean, as were the toilets. Accessible entrance and rest room available.

Had a day out in York with my partner. So glad we did. Birthday treat for him. Booked in here for our evening meal. He loves fish but I hate it but came here as i knew he would love it for his birthday. He really enjoyed had the seafood mixed grill and scallops. I had sweet potato pakora and cauliflower Thai green curry. It was absolutely delicious. Food is outstanding although expensive but you pay for what you get. The only downside was the service. Had to wait a long time to be served even for the initial drink when we sat down. It wasn't even that busy for 8pm. Didn't mind the wait for food as made to order so perfectly fresh but a good 15 minutes waiting for a drink after ordering. All in all a good evening.

Nice restaurant but seemed under staffed. Our waitress also made our cocktails and was hostess. My husband had the oysters, which he enjoyed. We both had the Loch Fyne G&T's, which were delicious and reasonably priced at £7.95 for a double. We both had the Grilled Lobster with garlic butter. It usually came with fries but we were allowed to substitute a side salad. It was good although not the best way to cook a lobster. The samphire side was yummy. We ended the meal splitting a Popcorn Sundae with wonderful Espresso Martinis. We will definitely return!

Had a lovely evening with a very generous serving of olives for nibbles and then sumptuous battered fish and chips. I could then not decide between the classic creme brulee or a raspberry cheesecake - really wanted both! 😊 very happy with the cheesecake in the end and a very good double espresso. Came to eat on a Tuesday evening, my food was amazing, my girlfriend’s really tasty but drowning in oil. The service, though, was not on point. We waited 15 minutes for our wine to be delivered and our order to be taken, no check back was done, we waited another 15 minutes for our plates to be cleared another 10 to pay for the bill. We thought at first it was really understaffed and felt bad for the three girls on shift before seeing them chatting behind the bar and showing each other videos on their phone when at least 10 tables needed to be cleared. No goodbye as we left either. I would go back for the fish being delicious but not expecting to get great service.

The staff are truly welcoming and brilliant at engaging in conversation, genuinely smiling and attentive. The menu choice is varied and I was impressed with the fish pie - very well seasoned, with great accompaniment of vegetables and a salad - the latter could come with its own dressing made on the premises (it is low cost but can make such a difference!). I also loved the scallops starter, an absolute winner. We also had the best halloumi fries I have ever eaten as a little appetiser to share. Bravo. The only thing which I thought was comical on one of the warmest days of the year, was that the cast iron radiator next to me was actually on! Seriously, that needs fixing, but it did not dent the quality of our experience. I'd love to come back!

Heard many great things about this place so finally had the chance to check it out and it did not disappoint. Upon arrival we were escorted to the back of the restaurant and sat in a corner. Unfortunately the table was pushed against the radiator and it was stuck on and could not be turned off so we had to move our table slightly along in order to enjoy our time there. Looking out the window all I could see was cobwebs and dead insects so I would suggest that the restaurant look into potentially getting that cleaned as it wasn't pleasant to look at. However that is the only negative thing I could say. Our waiter (I think his name was Andrew but could be wrong) was nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately the wine we had wanted wasn't available but he was able to recommend an alternative that was amazing and went well with our food. I had the poached haddock and my partner had the mixed seafood grill and I can't say enough how tasty everything was (especially the poached haddock). Was also told that if we returned within 4 weeks we would get 25% off with our receipt. Definitely going again and would recommend to everyone.

A very good mainly fish resturant. Ollie our surver was great as was all the staff. I had a fish mixed grill that was amazing. Lots of very tasty morsels with vegetables highly recommend for hungry fish lovers. Chris had whole place prepared as she wanted and was also very good. Firstly there's no draught beer, secondly their mixed fish grill is served in what you would serve pasta in, a bowl! Consequently it's difficult to see what you have in it and makes the presentation all wrong, the mussels were shrivelled up. At £27 this dish should have been a lot more appetising. Last time we went to a Loch Fyne was many years ago and we never ate there as waited 10 minutes and left as no one came to our table. Tonight I booked in here for 9.00 but was 20 minutes early. Lady that came to greet us sat us right next to another couple in a cramped area when there were plenty of perfectly isolated tables in the restaurant but luckily whilst I was in the loo another waitress sat us in a more spacious area and not sitting right on top of someone else. My wife ordered Hake with samphire and twice cooked chips, when her meal she sent the chips back as they were fries and not the twice cooked variety that she ordered and boy does she know a twice cooked chip when there's some to be had ! She thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the fish was spot on. I ordered the fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce..although the food was good I think the miniscule portion of mushy peas could have been a tad larger. For a side order I asked for some Scallops which were £9.00 a portion. I was a bit taken aback when my order was delivered to me and comprised of three small scallops with herbs. They were perfectly cooked and had great flavour but the size of the portion was also very disappointing. The other week I had the best scallops I have ever tasted at Tom Kitchins restaurant in Leith and I think even he would have liked these....but please consider the portion size in future and maybe offer a couple more for £9.00 considering the size offered in future. I finished with sticky toffee pudding & ice cream which again was nice, with a light texture but as it was served in a bowl the ice cream kept slipping onto the pudding and melted very quickly...maybe served on a plate next time would stop this happening. All in all a good meal but lacked the wow factor that Loch Fyne used to pride itself on. Would have been nice to see more crab on the menu considering Whitby and the coastal sea ports are only up the road. Until this chain ups its game to re capture its former glories I won't be rushing back.

We booked for early dinner (5pm.) Service was excellent from entering to leaving. We had oysters to start, they were excellent. My wife always has the poached Scottish smoked haddock which is delicious. I tried the mixed sea food grill which was just enough but I could have eaten more., I may ask for a sauce with it next time. Cheese cake for pudding. The restaurant was lovely and warm which was appreciated on a cold and windy day. Drinks can be pricey but it depends what you like to drink. Overall we really enjoyed our meal. Thank you once again Loch Fyne.

Very good quality food and friendly, efficient service. We had the fixed price lunch menu which at £12.95 for 3 courses is amazingly good value. We chose to have a bottle of wine for £12 as part of the deal. Cod goujons, beefburgers and raspberry cheesecake were all delicious and beautifully presented.

I don't think I would ever return to this place. Not because it was bad, but because it wasn't anything special. I thought most of the main courses (cod, tortellini, risotto) were unfortunately pretty bland - more safe than tasty or interesting. The service, while friendly, was incredibly slow - we were a table of 4 sat at 17:30 and we were still waiting on dessert after 20:00. Prices seemed fair and the dessert was tasty enough. All in all not a BAD experience, but that'll be all for me.

The food is always great here. Surprisingly, my favorite meal here is the spelt summer risotto and not a fish dish, though those are outstanding, too. The staff are very friendly, though every single time I went - I think 5 total - they always forget at least one person’s drink; This is obviously a minor thing, but it has to be pointed out to the waiter/ress.

Hi, we awarded a low score due to the service delays and food quality. We waited 90 mins from arriving to get our mains. One of our party of 5 ordered a starter, the wait between courses was too long and only explained after we asked having waited well over an hour already. Drinks service was slow and when the mains did arrive the cod and lentils were not very good. We mentioned the issue to the server, were offered a free side but didn’t want this. No further amends or apologies were made for the poor food or the long wait. Some of the food was nice enough to give the experience 3 stars.

Spent 3 glorious hours over a fine lunch in York. Great food, delicious wine, fab staff, lovely atmoshere, only complaint-- two of the puddings were not good. They didn't charge us for those as we didn't like to complain so we left them over. My creme brulee was nice but the rice pudding and plum granola type crumble was sorely lacking.Still, we would happily go back at our next visit to York. We would also highly recommend it to seafood lovers. Our staters and mains were fresh, perfectly prepared and presented --very tasty.

My wife and I had enjoyed a lovely meal here some time ago, and we repeated the experience recently when we returned with our 3 small children. The food is absolutely fantastic and is matched by the great standard of service from the staff. They have a good children's menu which proved popular with our kids. The restaurant itself is a very pleasant environment to dine in. Highly recommended.

I first spotted this place about 2 years ago and was dying to try it and today I did. I was not disappointed! The food was unreal. I had the squid for starters and it was delicious- my husband had the prawns and they were great too. I then picked the risotto for mains. It. Was. Divine. I have no words to describe it it was that good. If you picked this for a meal you would not be sorry! The kids food portions were also great sized and excellent value for money. Cannot recommend Loch Fyne enough the staff were outstanding too and this place is an absolute delight from the minute you walk in to the second you leave.

went on a short trip lasting a few days with my friend to york and on the last day, we were roaming the streets for a restaurant to have dinner in and luckily, we stumbled upon this restaurant! My friend was absolutely thrilled about coming here as they love sea food, whereas I was less thrilled as I never really liked seafood. I ended up ordering the loch fyne seafood mixed grill, it came in a very short amount of time, which really surprised me but what surprised me even more was the actual food! It was A M A Z I N G!!!!! The fish was cooked to perfection, the salmon was literally the best I had ever had! Even the potato's were amazing!!! This is the best sea food I've ever had!! The prices are a bit high (£25.95 for my dish) but it can definitely say that it was worth it for the amazing meal!

Very lovely looking restaurant on quite a cool looking road. Would definitely eat here again. We had walked through York just to get there as we had been recommended to go there for oysters. They didn't tell us they didn't have oysters til we had sat down. But we decided to have some small plates anyway, which were actually so beautiful in flavour (have the fish soup!). We had our wedding dinner at Loch Fyne in York and were blown away by the quality of food, wine and service. I am still fantasising about the scallops I ate – the best I have ever tasted. Communication was excellent when preparing for our big day and Anna and the team could not have been more helpful, warm or accommodating and kept us regularly informed about what information they needed from us, and what the next steps would be, totally removing any potential stress that can come with organising an event. Our York Loch Fyne experience more than surpassed our expectations in every way, and we really cannot recommend them enough to anyone thinking of booking them for their special occasion – DO IT! You will not regret it! For example, individual menu choices had been printed for each guest by the restaurant to make service for a larger group work seamlessly. After the cutting of the cake, staff portioned up and boxed individual servings of cake for guests to take away with them and had them ready to go. After cutting the cake we were presented with a glass of bubbly – all little touches which made the world of difference. All staff were superbly professional, attentive, and always at least three steps ahead of us in anticipating what we might need even before we realised it ourselves. Rarely have I received this level of service. A beautiful, classy and elegant venue with outstanding, caring, and professional staff who made our wedding day all the richer for being a special part of it.

Booked for NYE and we've visited before and loved the food.We felt it wasn't too busy which was a relief.Nicely decorated inside and it's a lovely building interior.I would have given more stars but we felt the service was quite poor the mussels for starter were extremely poor quality 😢 overcooked and the liquor like warm cream.We sat and waited to be asked if our food was OK but nobody came.The starter was returned and we didn't get charged.The seafood mixed grill was really nice apart from the same poor mussels.Abit of a shame when you have booked in a Seafood restaurant

I personally don't think that waiting staff should be wearing visors. They are standing at least two feet above customers and again I personally feel that visors are too open at the bottom. One of York's top restaurants with an excellent fish centric menu of high quality dishes. Booked a couple of days before and were still able to get a table at eight on Saturday night. Arrived about 20 minutes to eight and had a drink at the bar, the place was full so the booking had been a must. A warm welcome from the manager (I think) and we were shown to our table. We both went for the Scottish king scallops to start followed by one seafood grill and one king prawn Malabar curry, with a chrisp Chablis. All were delicious and delivered to the table without delay. An excellent evening out, highly recommended.

We have been dining here every December for years with the exception of the floods four years ago and the staff have always been friendly and the service overall great, when we first ate here the food was amazing and above par compared to other restaurants around a York however recently although the service is always great the food is not as it was in some cases. I’m was a fan of their fish and chips but gone are the minted crushed peas and exceptionally tasty batter and chips worth the slightly more expensive price however budgets have been cut and the dish is no better than your average pub although the price continues to rise as quality falls. Sad as this was one of our favourite places to dine in York, possibly it’s take over by one of the large pub chains has compromised its standards.
