We have been to both the store in Haxby and the stall in York City centre. By far the best fish and chips we have ever had. Matt had the salt and pepper squid and I had the scampi. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. Homemade tartar sauce, fantastic. Lads serving were lovely :) definitely come here again. Worth the drive from Bristol.

The care and attention that the Miller family put into their fish and chips is at a standard you’d find in a Michelin Stared restaurant, the quality of the fish the precise way they cook things is mind boggling. Millers Fish And chips... I'm lost for words. This journey starterd with me, my wife and our 7 month old baby heading to whitby. Some friends recommended magpies etc but on the way there we contacted them and found out we couldn't eat there as we are Muslim and can't have food fried in beef dripping. Turns out a lot of places in whitby don't provide this. Trenchers on the other hand said yes we can help you.. Went there and found out after asking 3 times that they don't cater for us and had that embarrassing walk of walking out without eating anything. Put off whitby for life. Then I was on a mission to find great fish and chips that I could enjoy. Emailed a few places and 2 places got back to me.. 1. Being kingfisher down south and the man there I won't name send me an email back and it just sounded like he wasn't interested in helping me or even entertaining my needs at all. I made sure I let him know I've now eaten at the number 1 in the nation and they do cater for me and my family's needs and that our quest for great fish and chips has already ended... The Douc*ebag. The second place that contacted me phoned me 3 hours before opening! And it was the owner David Miller! Which blew me away. He said he saw my email and the bad experience I had in whitby and wanted to let me know that they do cater for us. Went through every single detail about how they cook there food. Asked me to let him know when we would be coming. It's taken a few weeks but we finally got the chance to make the trip from Sheffield to York and we can see why Millers is the number one for fish and chips in the nation. David was at the door greeting customers. He asked how we were.. Amazing smile lol He introduced both me and my wife to his wife and son Nick Miller. Sat us down and we had great seets. Wife was very happy. We weren't sure what size cod to go for so David cut some cod for us to show us what size fish they did and I thought that was amazing customer service. The food was amazing! Loved the cod! Batter was perfect and crispy. The chips the best I've ever had! It's the first time I've had fish and chips without mayo and ketchup because I felt I didn't need them. The flavour was amazing.. There was home made tarter sauce which was spot on. The mushy peas were spot on too. The Millers made sure everything was spot on for our visit and I can't thank them enough. They have Deffo made some customers for life out of me and my family as I will be bringing the rest of the gang next time we're up in York. Amazing experience both food and customer service wise. This was thee best customer service I have ever recieved in my life. I can see why they were voted number one! Since we are in York, we know we gotta try this best fish & chips in town! This place is crowded with takeaways but diners can choose to sit in (note: prices differ and VAT). The haddock and cod we had were fresh, tasty and had crispy batter. There’s generous serving of chips too. What I like best is it is non-greasy.

Lovely and friendly staff! Gluten Free fish and chips available on Thursday evening is so yummy! Light bit size also available in GF option which is the right size for me while my husband enjoy the regular size. Tartar sauce is very tasty, must have with the fish!!

Ready when we got there after ordering about 10 mins in advance. Very thick good quality fish and excellent batter. Little taste to fish tho which was disappointing but it can't all be tasty as that's the individual fish. Silly husband never mentioned we needed forks and serviettes but but it was so nicely cooked that it was easy to eat with fingers. Not greasy. Served in a good white container that actually opened and closed and felt light and healthy. Very good service and enjoyable meal. Peas excellent. A good meal to look forward to. Well worth the money. Plenty of pleasant places nearby to park and enjoy your food in the car with no mess. Def going here again.

There is no doubt in my mind why Millers have won first place in the national fish and chips award 2018. The superb food is of course 2nd to none thats official but the kindness of the family and staff is also something else. As a wheelchair user now 95 per cent nothing is to much trouble. My meal is delivered to my car saving the hassle of get out lift the wheelchair out etc. And a lovely message on the box. What more can I say.

Really enjoyed our meals. The pie, chips and gravy were delicious. Service was very good and plenty behind counter for when the rush starts. A couple of minor things for me personally. Should be given choice of style of curry if optional and portion of small chips had 19 chips in, only just enough for a small child. Maybe I'm just greedy 😂😂

Always great service. Really friendly and quick. The fish is large and fresh with tasty batter but the calamari and squid are the best I’ve had in the UK by far. Plus if you like your ales, they have Brew York beers too.

Food is good, odd service though, takes ages and seems to serve folks out of order. Update: still good food, service still odd though with the whole queue crammed into the doorway with tickets awaiting their orders. Needs some out of the box thinking to make it less cosy whilst waiting. It was designed for a traditional queue and serve type of arrangement but a queue and ticket arrangement pushes everyone quickly through the till to the end of the counter where there is no room and there they must all stand together waiting to be called whisky the rest of the shop stands empty. Odd. Very good food though, worth saying it twice.

Just been for an impromptu fish and chip supper in their restaurant. The food was fabulous I opted for the salt and pepper squid just to try something a little different and I must say it was by far the best cooked squid I've ever had... my partner agreed and she had lived in Spain for 8 years the home of calimari. The service was welcoming and indeed excellent the lady who served us.. I believe may have been the owner couldn't have done enough for us. Good work Millers 5 stars all the way.

Nice fish and chips. The whole setup is very professional, and the food we had in the restaurant was nice enough. The only issues are the childrens' chicken nuggets appeared to be genetic frozen ones, rather than freshly made chicken breast nuggets. Also, we were given a table right next to the entrance, even though it wasn't busy, so really we could/should have been offered better seating. All things considered, we'll probably be back when we're next in the area.

This is my local fish and chip shop near my work and they've won best fish and chip shop in England...what's not to like? They fry fresh for you and the portion size is generous! The takeaway side is always busy I've not tried the restaurant side, but plan to.

A great example of a modern fish and chip shop since the recent refurbishment with plenty of information on where the fish is sourced always available on the screens. It is refreshing to see a local business injected with some forward thinking.

Great fish and chips as always but the new ordering system was chaos at best. Ordered via the app and went to collect at the given time only to find order wasn't processed and had to wait another 25mins to place a re-order, but no mention of this until we questioned where the order was. Will be waiting until social distancing allows ordering to go back to more like it used to be before returning.

I went into the restaurant my partner and 6 week old baby on the weekend. We both had the lunch time special, fish and chips with a cup of tea. It was the perfect size for a quick lunch, and it was delicious! There was also a lovely friendly atmosphere, with all the staff smiling! I came across Millers Fish & Chip Shop on a recent trip to York with a colleague. The First thing you notice is how spotlessly clean the place is. It has a wonderfully refreshing dining area. I found the staff to be very welcoming and then was not disappointed in my Hake and Chips and mushy peas. I'm one of the many morbidly obese people but the portions were big enough for me. The tartare sauce and bread portions were added touches as were the drinks as well as a lovely pot of tea. I've been back since again with no complaints and will return soon. Thank you Dave and Lesley for your fabulous food and hospitality.

Tasty good quality fish and chips with nice batter- small brioche bun (unexpected in a chippie) Reasonable prices A method of taking your order that can be compared to a slow motion starbucks walk through (you have to give your name-its inputted onto a tablet then they call out someone else's name when your order is ready and the order is taken through a small window at the front of the shop A computerised system thats obviously new and useless in equal measure Ill still go again as the food is nice but they really should use a more conventional method to serve customers - and get some nice bread buns in instead of the brioche there are two bakers within walking distance

Gluten and milk free choice available, cooked separately to avoid cross contamination. Recommend pre order by phone to avoid queues.

Award winning fish & chippery - queues sometimes quite long but fast moving. High morale in the queue, a bit like an air raid shelter in the blitz where you make new friends. Chips perhaps more variable than the fish which is very good. And one of the current staff resembles a famous tennis player. YOU have to work that out.
