The best Chinese meal I have ever had and backed up by the comments from my wife and kids. Service was friendly, helpful and made us feel really welcome. They could nit do enough. The food itself was absolutely delicious and the staff helped us navigate the menu with suggestions around the many traditional Chinese dishes they offered. There were many other Asian people in there who had clearly come for the authentic flavours. If your in York and fancy a Chinese meal, this is THE place to go!

Now this is unusual for me from the outside I was not impressed, once inside the friendly welcome started to melt my opinion for the better, the food that was served changed it completely it was great, well worth a visit.

Mainland Chinese owned and operated restaurant which serves very good food. My advice is to skip the westernised Chinese menu and go for the Chinese menu and ask the staff for some choices. The taste is not far off a local Sichuan restaurant for many of the dishes like spicy tofu and pan fried spicy potatoe slices. The ambience is like being in a mainland china city and Interestingly they have lots of signed snooker player photos, as the owner is a snooker fan.

We came here whilst visiting York and after reading the reviews were excited to eat. We have an award winning Chinese round the corner from us so really weren’t expecting to be wowed as we have high standards. We were really pleasantly surprised and the food was really yummy! The salt and pepper starter was cooked to perfection and I’m missing it already! The staff were warm and accommodating and the food arrived in a timely manner. We were asked if we would like a break in between courses which was nice. If we visit York again we will definitely come back.

Excellent food. We went back two days after our visit to try other dishes and they were just as great as the first visit. The service was exceptional. On holiday in York with my husband and randomly found Shi Shang and so glad we did ! Food was amazing and lovely staff. I chose Sizzling Fillet Steak in Black Bean Sauce, my husband had Chicken Curry and fried rice. Easily the best food we have had during our visit to York, planning another visit before heading home.

Ordered for takeaway via Foodhub - really nice food, one of the better Chinese takeaways I’ve had in York and one of the best priced too. - delivery took a long time (nearly an hour and half) despite it only being down the road, but the lady was very friendly and apologetic! We ordered 6 courses and rice tonight. Food was delicious except for two courses which were very sweet(京酱肉丝 and 沙爹肥牛). The 6 courses cost 71.5 GBPs, which was reasonable, however, they also charged 9 GBPs for 3 bowls of white rice. They are pure white rice, not fried or any other fancy rice. I would’ve recommended this restaurant if only the rice wasn’t ridiculously priced.

i recently moved to york & having been trying to find the best local chinese restaurant. after visiting multiple restaurants, shi shang restaurant is honestly the best & i would highly recommend it to everyone !! the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the food is absolutely delicious and rich with flavour & worth the price !! my favourite dish is the special fried rice !!

Came here a couple weeks ago with my partner and the service was impeccable, the staff were so nice and helpful the whole time we were there. Neither of us had tried authentic chinese food before, so we decided to order from that menu rather than the westernised one they had, and we did not regret it. My partner had the pork belly in soy sauce while I had the deep fried pork strips in a fruity sauce (tasted like lemon and ginger?) - both were beautifully presented, and tasted amazing - the portion sizes were huge as well! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to try something new :)

One of the best Chinese meals we have ever had. Ordered the set menu for 2 which was a lot of good, but was all delicious and they packed up what we couldn’t manage for us to take home. Love everything about Shi Shang! The food was so delicious, and the staff are incredibly professional and attentive. I was so impressed with how they are managing their COVID response, the staff continuously sanitise and change masks for serving different tables. I’m vegetarian and normally I don’t have much choice in chinese restaurants. I always order di san xian and I have to say di san xian in this Restaurant was the best I’ve ever had! My fiancé was also very happy with his meal. I only regret I didn’t take any pictures of the food to post here :D Service was very nice (host especially!) I really recommend this place 👌🏻
