Reviews of The Garden Of India

A short walk from our hotel. We both love Indian food and I make my own at home so off we went.
Now - I appreciate that my fav Indian meal will be different in every restaurant. So have an open mind and expect variation.
Pleasant decor, tables not too tight together.
Poppadom to start - the dips had some substance to them, not watery as at some place. All good.
We had lamb madras each. One portion of rice and one Nan. Its plenty for us.
The Madras was, as expected, hot and spicy, the amount of lamb generous and 'melt in the mouth' - beautifully tender.
And we had a cooling dessert.
We had drinks too - and the bill represented really good value.
Service - couldn't fault it. Staff were welcoming and friendly. It was also a joy to see 6-7 children also enjoying a curry.
Give it a go

Absolutely fantastic , despite the fact it was super busy , the staff worked super hard to please everyone and to deliver food and drinks in a timely manner. It was our 1st time here , but definitely not the last . The food was amazing, hot and full of flavour , chicken to die for . Amazing value for money as well .

We had a great meal here..very friendly and attentive staff, who recommended just the right dish. Lovely food and well priced. We would definitely look forward to a return visit.

Hubby had checked out local Indian restaurants prior to our visit to York, he had saved this as his favourite. We were NOT disappointed. Absolutely brilliant meal, food was so tasty, staff very welcoming and friendly, cannot recommend high enough if you in the area

Best Indian restaurant in York (from a local student)
I have tried (just about) every Indian restaurant in York. Considering quality, consistency, service, price, and everything in between, The Garden of India is the best.
Unfortunately I've moved away from the area, but when I return to York I will eat here.

We so was looking forward to the Indian here but left disappointed, popadoms and starter were fantastic, the beer was nice then the main course came out, I had a rogan gosh, very light in colour was my first thought then the water in the dish separated from the rest and leaving a pool of water around my plate, it had either being watered down to stretch the portion or a fresh one that wasn’t ready, very poor in flavour also, my wife had a lamb madras this also was very watery and we didn’t think it was lamb but beef, our second pint was flat but felt it was how it had being pulled., I don’t like making complaints about businesses but for £64 this was a very poor experience and I won’t be returning again,

Excelent food, cold beer, nice Indian atmosphere, although it Is quite difficult to understand the staff, for a non mother language English speaking person like me.
We has a great dinner

Would thoroughly recommend eating here. Asked for their recommendations, they suggested the House Balti and a few other dishes I have never had before. Stunning meal.

Wide selection of Indian dishes (meat and vegetarian) and side dishes. Food was excellent, staff was friendly and service was fast. Very pleasant dining experience.
