Reviews of The Ivy St Helen's Square York
A. O.
Visited here for Sunday afternoon meal. On walking into the entrance it feels quite compact and I’m sad to say there was an overpowering smell which smelt like fish and if we had not made a booking we would have left due to this smell.
The staff were very friendly and relaxed which made it enjoyable. The menu is varied and the food is reasonably priced. Food well presented and tasted really nice. Drinks we felt were overpriced if you like to have a few drinks over lunch this will make this an expensive experience.
Having now been to the Ivy we don’t think it is a place that would be first on our list to revisit.

I can't believe I haven't visited sooner.. did not expect The Ivy to do such beautiful vegan options! Lovely place to eat, great service and cool pink toilets! I would recommend the vegan Asian salad and the zucchini fritters. They were both sooo good! Would also recommend the flavoured tequila on the rocks! Loved the amount of vegan options on the menu!

I have always wanted to go to an Ivy restaurant. The venue was delightful and the staff all excellent.
We enjoyed our meals my husband had the steak which he said was excellent.
They also gave us a little pudding treat for our wedding anniversary.
We will definitely recommend and return when possible.
S. M.
Doctors food, beautiful decor and atmosphere, and the service was impeccable.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they even gave us a free celebratory pudding! Loved the whole experience.
S. M.
English food is a huge compliment here. The rabbit stew was so good and the sticky toffee pudding was a great way to end off.
Loud but crowded. The noise took away from the ambiance. Come with a reservation, for sure.
Our waitress was polite but we had many people serving us and checking on us throughout.
We will come back.
B.
I came here for the afternoon tea and it was fantastic! The service was fast and friendly and our server offered advice on vegan friendly options.
The restaurant itself is beautiful. The attention to detail is unmatched - even the restroom was elaborately decorated
M. R.
Excellent meal and great choice for vegetarians. The food is so full of flavours and we tried a few cocktails also. We were served by Nora who was so friendly. Recommend the cheese soufflé and the apple tart fine, delicious 😋

Bank Holiday Monday - 18th April 2022
The Ivy has been on our list of restaurants to visit in Yorkshire for a while. With venues in Leeds, Harrogate & York.
We booked the York venue online before. You can walk in however you may have to wait and be disappointed if you can’t get a table.
The venue is very stylish and classy. The layout and decor is very spacious and nice.
Our host led us to our table and in a short time we had the menus and we’re ordering our drinks & meals.
The service was first class, the presentation of the food was what you’d expect of a brand like the Ivy.
This was mid morning so most people were having breakfast in smart/casual attire. Maybe lunch & dinner you’d dress up more slightly.
The food great, the best breakfast I’ve had. 10/10. Your not going to get a Mitchellin star for a full English, but it was excellent and very filling.
I couldn’t fault one thing today and it was a lovely dining experience in a great setting & location - highly recommended

Booked the Ivy for our anniversary tea.
All staff were great, extremely courteous and pleasant.
Food was amazing, even almonds and sour dough loaf for the table were tasty.
My wife chose the Shepard’s pie which I’m happy to report joined the clean plate club.
I went with the burger, which was good but kind of regretted not getting the steak as originally planned.
Also the chocolate bomb desert was delicious. Melted chocolate with salted caramel and vanilla ice cream.
Our waiter brought us cream eclair as an extra desert as they knew it was our anniversary; such an appreciated gesture.
A great experience and would love to visit again.
M.
Amazing place. Twice celebrated a birthday here and they brought a complimentary cake and candle as a surprise. Food is quality and the staff are amazing. Highly recommended if you want a special night out in York.

We visited York yesterday (08/09/2021) and managed to get the opportunity to dine here (there was a cancellation). We hadn't planned where to eat but are so glad we ate here. All I can say is that it was a wonderful experience, from the welcome of reservation staff to such amazing food. Our server (not sure if that is the correct term!) Laura, was such a lovely, knowledgeable, helpful, polite and just very professional without being stuffy young lady. Laura is an asset to the restaurant.
The food was absolutely delicious and our party of 4 enjoyed everything that was ordered. We loved the courgette fries!!! I honestly don't think you can make a bad choice here. We will definitely be visiting again and will sing your praises to whoever will listen.
The restaurant overall has a lovely relaxed vibe and the most comfortable chairs ever and we didn't feel rushed in anyway. We enjoyed our time at the Ivy and felt thoroughly spoilt. Thank you!

Lovely restaurant with friendly staff, good quality food and drink with a good selection. Reasonable price range for everything. One point to note is the only toilet for customers is up (two flights of) stairs turn left and down the corridor, door at the end marked washroom with two further doors inside for men and women.

I’ve been here two or three times since moving to York and I always sit at the bar. Service is good, food is prompt, and employees are nice. I appreciate their standard of warming milk for americanos.
Eggs Benedict
Americanos
Apple Tart (flambé)
S. K.
Great spot for dinner. Located on St. Helen’s Square. The menu selection is quite varied. There was also a 2 or 3 course option which very reasonably priced for what you get.
J. H.
Well this is top class and if you want to go for food book early. Wife and I went in after a disaster meal (next review) and as we'd sort of eaten, just had drinks. The staff are as professional as at a 5 Star establishment. Polite and friendly. So we had a few cocktails from the menu and I had a couple of the waitresses own customised ones based on my main spirits. They also brought us a little pudding after hearing about our disaster too. A lovely touch. I think the guy was Lucas and the girl Simone. So nice and the drinks were expertly prepared. Lived it in there. What we saw of the food, looked fantastic too.
S. H.
We booked the private dining room for a large group. The menu did not have a large selection at all, with just two options each for starters, main and desserts.
My starter was delicious, simple ingredients but brought together really well. My main was not so great. The underside of my halloumi was burnt and ruined the taste of the whole dish. The creme brûlée was by far the highlight of the meal, and my go to dessert at the Ivy.
The private dining room itself has beautiful decor, however the table was just big enough to accommodate our party making it a very cosy lunch!
The waiters/waitresses were great. Attentive and friendly and always at hand when we needed anything.
E. P.
Fantastic service and delicious food. The cocktails are to die for. All in a wonderful setting. Wouldn't fault at all.
S. o.
Visited here this weekend for afternoon tea and was really looking forward to it.
The food and drinks were tasty and for the most part well presented. However, the service was shoddy and when they are going to add a £22 service charge to the bill they should be ensuring that the service is up to scratch really.
I was ignored repeatedly by the congregation of staff in the foyer who looked like they were stood chatting.
There was a very pungent smell of fish throughout which was somewhat off-putting.
I probably wouldn't rush back which is a shame really.
V. V.
Lovely restaurant. Great food and welcoming staff. Highly recommend.
A. N.
Absolutely amazing, we started with a glass of champagne, which to be honest was the best I had ever tasted, then I had smoked salmon which was divine and finished with fish and chips, the fish was so light and flakey the batter was perfect, will definitely go back and have exactly the same again. The service was perfect too.
A. C. H.
Amazing, beautiful surroundings & food, staff very helpful & friendly & nothing too much trouble. Overall a very pleasant & unique experience.
M. D.
Everything was amazing food , service and ambiance ❤️ would highly recommend.
A. R.
Incredibly beautiful afternoon tea. Great savory options and the sweets and puddings were decadent. All served on silver or porcelain. Had a table outside and was the perfect afternoon to watch the world go by on the square.
L. M.
Managed to book a table on a very busy evening. Bar area has a good vibe where numerous cocktails were on order. Tables comfortably spread out. Service was fairy quick considering how busy it was. The staff were brilliant when we complained that our rare steaks were well done. Both meals were replaced and this time to our satisfaction. For our troubles we were both offered a complimentary glass of wine. All well that ends well.
G. D.
One of the most enjoyable meals, if not the most enjoyable meal, I've ever had. Everything from the bread to the cheeseboard and everything in between was excellent, even the drinks. The rabbit and langoustine pie was my personal highlight. For us, a place like this is a bit more expensive than we'd usually spend on a night out so it was a treat but definitely worth it. Recommended.
J. M.
Food very OK. I only had the special 3 course menu, the duck parfait was gorgeous, the chicken risotto was as good as home (but no better), the ice cream was nice with a lovely toffee sauce. A very OK meal, but sat in a draughty doorway took away from the splendour of the aesthetics.
J. R.
Beautiful..friendly staff.
Great atmosphere..amazing food.will definitely visit again x
P. M.
Superb experience, quality food and drinks. Great decor and atmosphere. Service was the best though with special mention to Maggie who was brilliant!
W.
I love The Ivy in York 💗
We were fortunate to get a seat very quickly, the decor is amazing and the staff are well trained, professional and very nice to talk to
We really enjoyed our meals 😋 my hubby enjoyed his fish and chips and I had the Korean chicken, it was wonderful, infact I could eat it again every week ... but I will have to make it myself cause we can't afford to go every week 😂
Until next time see you soon The Ivy St Helens Square York
M. W.
Lovely place with amazing food (decent portion sizes too!)
Marked down as they knew it was wife's 40th birthday as they acknowledged when we were greater but then she didn't receive same complimentary dessert that we saw/heard adjoining tables receive.
A. N.
Was a very nice experience with this food . Very cosy place. Really Friendly staff .
S. W.
Lovely food, good service. Nice decor and atmosphere. Lots of attention to detail.
F. G.
We visited 9th August with friends. The venue is beautiful & the staff were great! Friendly & very helpful. A lovely menu. Sadly my husband was taken ill during the meal & they were fantastic!
They couldn't do enough for us. They didn't charge for our main courses which we had just received. I cannot thank Mike the manager enough. We will certainly be back to enjoy the full experience!
Fiona & Steve Gray
M. T.
Friendly waitress who answered all of our queries. Efficient service and a great full English with proper Yorkshire sausages. Great atmosphere, one of the nicest places in York!
T. S.
We were in the restaurant for dinner, we had salmon with asparagus and fish and chips, the food was excellent, fresh and cooked to the point. The service was excellent and very accommodating. The only thing I would have liked, a larger selection of open wines, since a bottle of wine is definitely too much for one person. The drinks menu offers a large selection of alternatives.
N. C.
Was at The Ivy with friends with no prior reservation on a bank holiday weekend. Inspire of that, we were accommodated in a packed restaurant in the most hospitable way. And I must specifically mention the hostess who attended us. Amazing level of service. To the extent they replaced one of our steak orders without a question. Undoubtedly a wonderful experience. Would recommend this place to anyone coming to York.
E. D.
Lovely food and amazing atmosphere. We came for brunch on a visit to York and I would highly recommend for a special occasion
D. W.
Absolutely brilliant, excellent food and staff, can't wait to go back. Pure class.
P. C. M.
Never been to the ivy chain of restaurants before, always viewed them as pretentious. Although, was very surprised with the chilled relaxed atmosphere. Service was top notch..food was excellent too. All a bit pricy but you are also paying for the experience. Thought £6 for a 330ml beer was a bit much, bit overall great. Will go again.
D. W.
Absolutely lovely meal with friends. We all really enjoyed it.
B. L.
Lovely experience…. Went there on the Jubilee holiday, thank you for the amazing food and service. Especially the black lady who served us (didn’t ask for her name) she is amazing and delightful. Thanks for all the staff who works hard and keep things going on bank holidays xxx
L. W.
Such a classy way to enjoy breakfast. Impeccable service, excellent choice from pastries to a full English (veg options good too) and beautiful, sumptuous decor to bask in. Very relaxed atmosphere, great quality food and drink - real decadence. We love it any time of the day.
G. D.
Can’t really fault it to be honest. Lovely staff from when you walk in till you leave. The decor is lovely when you first walk in, lovely plants and colourful walls full of artwork.
The cutlery, table layouts etc are great for families or small groups.
The staff are really accommodating. The food was quickly served, but not too quick where you wonder if it got chucked in a microwave….
We had a mix of things. A full English, vege English, grains and avocado, pancakes, fruit, bloody Mary’s, coffee. It was a big one and we’ll worth it. The only minor thing was they forgot our toast at the end which really wasn’t a big deal as we had nailed the rest.
Toilets upstairs were well set for Covid.
Overall really good experience. The chain continues to nail these.
Thanks - hope to see you soon
Y. S.
Taste impressive, but the bill is slightly higher than expected in York.
C. M.
This is a terrific dining experience. Decor is a superb balance of colour and light, a busy primary theme of vivid nature. Menu is excellent, enough variety for everyone, a mixture of tried and tested classics with some new dishes you may never have thought to try. Extensive, if expensive, wine list but the cocktails are stunning. The best in town, maybe. Excellent staff, just a perfect mixture of attentiveness and friendliness to make sure you get exactly what you want. The desserts were the highlight (I would say that, my steak that I ordered medium rare came out medium) and the chocolate bombe and creme brulee are absolutely stunning. Great restaurant, well done.
A. W.
Very efficient and clean. Very attentive but not in your face, and the scones were extremely good. Great cocktails too, best salted caramel espresso martini I've ever tasted.
S. S.
Lavish furnishings with a relaxing atmosphere. We enjoyed the cocktails, the smoked salmon was amazing and the fish and chips were good. Great service and value, we are looking forward to our next visit.
C. B.
Lovely place to sit outside and watch the world go by. Staff were fantastic and really friendly. I will definitely be back.
J. M.
A very nice Restaurant we had lunch sitting outside. We were allowed to bring our two dogs in with us and they brought a bowl of water from them. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We can highly recommend it
T.
We originally decided to sit outside for lunch but as it was clouding over we were offered the chance to move inside, which we accepted I side the Ivy is a well laid out restaurant with a good mixof table sizes. We sat at the very back and the surroundings were spacious light a d airy. The menu has vary good choice but we chose basic food, a burger and sheppards pie. The food was presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. For desert wealth succumbed to the chocolate bomb. Withe the hot sauce poured over the chocolate enclosed ice cream and honeycomb it was great fun and theater to watch the chocolate disintegrate. It was also a stunning tasting desert.
The Ivy is a lovely place to eat but o the expensive side. However for the service, quality and presentation it is well worth it.
N. G.
Absolutely stunning food, lovely atmosphere, great selection of options on the menu. The steak we both had was spot on!
T. B.
Delicious food lovely atmosphere brilliant service.
d. w.
Food and service were super fabulous, costs were too, will be back 🤗
R. H.
We really love this establishment, the service is top notch. The ambience and location really helps but the food is unquestionably the most fabulous part! Very close to our home so it's becoming a concerning regular!
S. M.
I can see inconsistencies between the different Ivy Brassiere restaurants.
For example the Crispy Duck Salad at Guildford is excellent not only in taste, presentation and ingredient proportions. The York branch version of this dish was way under par. Not a match on the Guildford one.
Other than that we had an enjoyable evening with food and service.
H. M.
We had lunch here last Tuesday during a visit to York and loved it. The food was excellent and the staff were excellent. We loved the decor and will definitely go back on our next visit to York. Thank you for a lovely experience.
S. R.
Lovely restaurant, staff ok.
However, our meal took a while to come and we were told the chicken we had ordered had ended up on the floor.
We were offered a free drink though and our meal came quite quickly after that.
Meal was ok. Expensive for what it was 👍
L. H.
Booked a table for 6.30 and seated straight away, it was midweek so not too busy first off, completely rammed an hour later. We had three courses and a coffee to finish and enjoyed them all. The food was both tasty and well presented with good portion sizes, overall very good. The service was also good, very polite and seemed knowledgeable about the dishes offered. One slight downside is that the tables are very close together so it's quite a squeeze and not very private at all. It didn't spoil it for us but maybe an issue for others. Also the service charge maybe on the steep side but on this occasion we thought was just worth it, all in all an enjoyable evening out.
L. W.
The restaurant is fantastic and the food is delicious and the customer service amazing.
J. B.
Just had to write and say that my husband and I stopped to have a drink at the Ivy in York and we were served by Sanket and what a friendly, professional waiter
He is everything that giving a good service is about.
We will definitely return to have a meal in the near future thanks to Sanket's service.
A. P.
Lovely atmosphere, food and service. Good for early morning breakfast. Their smoothies are very good and worth a try.
H. A.
Nice coffee & cocktail, nice place, nice staff
D. W.
Visited the Ivy for breakfast with 7 other ladies. The restaurant was beautifu lots of attention to detail I had the mini pasties and egg Benedict. The the ham was amazing! The drinks were a little pricey but the food was very reasonable which balanced it out. Lovely place to visit for a treat. Only reason didn't get 5 stars was the the service was a little slow
J. B.
This restaurant is stunning. We were a party of 8 celebrating my wife's and my birthdays. From the time we got there to when we left the service was great. The food was amazing and we all had a fabulous time. Will certainly return next time we are in York.
M. G.
Our 3th visit and going down hill. Asked for a nice table for a Birthday eneded up between serving door and ordering point.Food going down hill, spinach dish used frozen not fresh so very watery. Rare steak cooked grey all the way through. Was replaced by the time everyone else had finished. All in all a very expensive very average meal.
ا. ي.
I liked the place very much and the food was delicious..
K. J.
Had a lovely meal tonight to celebrate leaving my old job and starting a new one ...the food was gorgeous, decor is stunning and the service was impeccable, they even brought me a free little pudding with a candle in to celebrate...
D.
Great place for food and drinks in an extremely nice environment.
We had breakfast, Eggs Benedict & a selection of pastries with tea & coffee.
Great food, great service, great place !
I. C.
The menu only has basic items - you'd think it's more of a lunch place, but when the food is served, it's tasty and very well presented. The service is perfect.
Overall, very happy with the food and the service, but I'd expect better menu items for the class of restaurant (and prices to go along with it)
C. D.
Absolutely Gorgeous ! Enjoyed every aspect. Food was amazing. Service was fantastic. Lovely atmosphere in here.
E. A.
Beautiful service, Beautiful food and beautiful decor.
t.
Fantastic food fantastic vibe, staff amazing, our waiter was professional and hilarious, greeted with a smile.
Highly recommend
A. M.
The wife and I went here for our anniversary and it was excellent. The staff are brilliant. From walking in the door, having your meal and then leaving all the staff make you feel special. The service is excellent. The food is amongst the nicest food we have tasted. We had a shepherd's pie for our main course and the lamb inside was the most beautiful we have tasted.
J. D.
Only had coffee but it was a little bit of class service excellent
H. A.
Went here for brunch and absolutely loved it. Staff were very friendly and polite. Felt welcome as soon as we came in. We enjoyed our food even more including our drinks which included their selection of iced tea and smoothie. Definitely recommend their pancakes - especially enjoyed the creamy yoghurt in it!
S. M.
Delicious food, classy setting, warm welcoming staff - overall a great experience
I. A.
I have never received such amazing service at a restaurant. We went their for brunch and the food was delicious. Arrived really quickly and the waitress regularly checked on us when our drinks were low etc. She was so lovely and welcoming. They even gave us free mini cakes when they found out we'd just got married. It was such a lovely experience and wasn't as expensive as I thought the ivy would be
D. B.
Very nice atmosphere extremely comfortable restaurant. Great drink selection, food is excellent, staff are fabulous.
S. B.
More bistro than gastro pub, not pretentious but great service. Good quality food and generous portions. Would recommend truffle chips, miso chicken, duck parfait....lamb shoulder was good but a little overcooked.
d. t.
The crispy duck salad starter was amazing!
B. C.
Visited The Ivy in York for a special birthday. Usually out of my price range, but ok every 60 years. Forgetting the price, as you must do, it was just a lovely experience. All protocols in place with temperature taken at the door, although I didn't see any hand sanitizer, staff were all masked up and careful of spacing. The food was excellent, although tricky to find something without truffle in it ! So much so that I missed something that I had ordered with it in it, but the waitress came back to let us know that she'd put a hold on our starter as mine had truffle in it ! The staff were excellent throughout, as was the food. Accessibility wise, I'm not sure how easy the entrance would be for a wheelchair, so do check when booking. There is however a disabled access restroom on the ground floor, which may again be a little tricky to negotiate in a wheelchair, but I'm not a total expert. All in all, worth the visit, but check the menu online first....
M. A.
Gorgeous food, lovely atmosphere, really friendly and attentive team. Excellent time!
A. T.
Lovely food and ambiance, ideal for special occasions, but expect the bill to be pricey.
J. M.
Great atmosphere. The food was good as was the service.
L. W.
The service and ambiance were exceptional but the food was out of this world.
The starter was so good, I didn't want to drink or eat anything else until I had completely finished savouring the taste.
P. S.
Amazing place. Fab afternoon tea served by wonderful staff. Unforgettable birthday treat. Thank you everyone at The Ivy.
c. p.
Had the most amazing meal at The Ivy, York. Crab linguine was delicious, the desserts were fabulous. So delighted with it , we returned the next day for an afternoon tea. All the staff were friendly, professional and attentive. They even remembered our names the following day. Thank you from Carla and Jayne
D. G.
Afternoon tea is great. The clotted cream and fruit scones were very tasty. Good selection of tea. Friendly staff.
D. R.
Took my team on Sunday as part of a Celebration of winning the company's incentive scheme. Had a lovely Evening with amazing food, great atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. Thank you for looking after us.
K. H.
Great table service and good quality food on the afternoon tea however not the best value for money.
S. M.
The Ivy team did the most stunning job for my wife's special birthday party! We hired the upstairs room (The Etty Room) for 28 guests. The quality of the food and drinks selection were topped only by the personal and friendly service of a highly professional staff. They went out of their way from the moment I engaged with planning to the numerous personal touches on the evening. The Ivy is renowned for its food but its selection of fine wines and wide range of cocktails puts them into a league of their own for the discerning diner. The overall cost of such a quality service is not insignificant, including the built in 12% service charge, but I can honestly say it was less than I expected. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Ivy and will certainly use them again.
E. E.
Really lovely place, nice food and great service
L. W.
Lovely food, nice staff.
M. R.
Booked for afternoon tea, as was told when we arrived, that it was too early. Far too busy, especially in the current situation of covid 19, sitting so close to other tables.
Waited nearly an hour for our food, and was told because we had chosen not to have a starter there would be a wait....but didn't expect an hour!
The coffee was luke warm and the noise was overbearing.
Not a good experience!
Especially as we weren't told about afternoon tea not starting until 3pm and I booked for 2pm.
I.
Absolutely fantastic decor.. Food was really nice and well presented, staff really professional. Not as expensive as you might think. Worked out at £40.00 per head for starter, main and 1 cocktail. Would definitely go back.
C. C.
We enjoyed our meal . lovely interior design. Tea bags could be stronger . They gave me another's tea bag much better taste.
M. W.
Excellent food and excellent service. Immaculately kept premises.
S. H.
Booked via OpenTable for some Birthday drinks with my partner. Couldn't have been made to feel any more welcome, great experience & to top it off we were surprised with a little Birthday treat - totally unexpected gesture, but one which will stick with us. Will certainly be returning in the future!
P. R.
Absolutely fabulous beautiful food and lovely ambiance, highly recommended for special events
I. B.
We visited York this weekend our favourite place for our wedding anniversary, it was the first time we have been to the Ivy
The food was excellent and professionally served to a high standard with attentive staff
The atmosphere was great and the restaurant fully booked and covid compliant
The matradee must have guessed it was our anniversary as we received a complimentary profiterole and anniversary chocolate for dessert
We will definitely be returning next time we are in York
V. R.
Coffee lunch dinner pastries, great venue. Professional manager and staff. Lots areas. Great cocktail menu. Private gorgious dining rooms upstairs. A must visit for that extra special treat.
K. L.
Soon as you walk in you can relax and know this is going to be a great experience. Fantastic quality meals served by friendly attentive staff. Recommended.
K. N.
Had a great meal and first class service at the Ivy in York. The Shepherds Pie is genuinely the best I ever had. We sat here all afternoon and watched the world go by. Highly recommended!
M. D.
Wonderful place for breakfast or brunch as we had it. Wonderful ambience and decor and the staff were all so friendly. The food was spectacular. We wanted to stay the whole day.
e. l.
Very busy restaurant on a Friday night.
Nice decor and atmosphere.
Food was nicely presented but not the best I've ever tasted.
Service was efficient and friendly.
C. W.
I have celebrated my birthday here tonight. We had a fabulous meal. Our waiter Mitchell gave us the most fabulous service and really made the night extra special. I would highly recommend!
A. M.
Amazing place. Very good food and brilliant service.
Our server has such a dry sense of humour he had us in stitches.
C.
Loved the meal, which was a Tai curry Good service, great atmosphere, spotlessly clean and tidy everywhere. However, I did not enjoy the mint tea. A few mint leaves in hotwater may seem appropriate to some people but, it was like drinking hotwater with barely a hint of flavour. If it hadn't been for the mint tea, I would have given five star rating.
J. C.
Afternoon Tea
Shame we expected better!
We asked for a cocktail each and asked for the afternoon tea after our drinks
But the afternoon tea arrived before the cocktails so we just got on with it
Only to find that the bread was very stale so that was replaced
Then the tea arrived but was so weak it was like dishwater so we had a couple of tea bags added and unfortunately to add to the failing the jam and cream was only enough for only two scones so had to ask for more
We expected the standard to be the same as the Ivy in London where the attention to detail was far greater
If you’re interested please ask and I will let you have my details?

Had a lovely meal here to celebrate a special anniversary. It was a surprise from our family. Great atmosphere & pleasant surroundings. Attentive staff.
G. E.
The food and service was excellent. Some real creativity in the menus.
The only thing I disliked was how they (they're not alone) automatically, and without verbal warning, include that 12.5% service charge on top of your bill. Although you can find a statement in small print on a menu somewhere, it still makes me feel uncomfortable because you just never know how opting out might effect someone's livelihood.
I really hope that the staff are being treated decently in terms of pay because they're do a smashing job and I would really recommend people go to this restaurant 🙂
Z. R.
Food was tasty. Lovely atmosphere. The service was friendly and efficient.
D. B.
Just as you'd expect from The Ivy, great food, attentive and helpful staff. I managed to get a seat without a booking, it was a popular lunchtime spot so I'd recommend booking and it's definitely worth a visit.
L. M.
Good food, reasonably priced for the location. Friendly service. Wine very expensive. Alcohol free cocktails tiny for the price.
J. S.
Felt very special going here it was my birthday treat from the husband .
All the staff was great very professional we will be going back
S. g.
Staff fantastic, we all had minute steak, mine was perfect unfortunately my friends were all overdone and tough, but a good night and recompensed for a meal.
K. H.
I would of gave 5 stars but that's because I only have one complaint the waiting staff we had where absolutely amazing he had a man who was tall with blondish hair and a lovely accent he really took his time to help us since me and my friend have never been to a restaurant before so we where lost on how the menu worked and he took his time to explain but the complaint is there was one female staff with blonde hair working the door and doing the seating she seemed to be very judgy the way she kept looking at us she made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome she didn't even great us and not talked at all and evertime she went passed are table she just kept giving us wired looks and I felt so uncomfortable apart from that the food was fantastic the crispy duck salad was delicious and i cant stop thinking about it and that male staff was amazing he should get a raise he is literally the best waiter I have ever had...
P. R.
Excellent as always with the Ivy. Great menu and as usual well prepared, well presented, and very tasty dishes. Attentive and friendly staff and would definitely recommend.
f. C.
The Ivy never disapoints and this one in York met all expectations. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We where there to celebrate an occasion so restaurant, food and staff were amazing. I would recommend the arancini for the table. Suffle with cheese or duck pate for starters. As a main I would recommend plates like pasta with crab or other plates that are unic. Chips with truffle and cheese are a must!!!
D. W.
Great food & quick attentive service, slightly disappointed at how noisy it is, with so many covers,
Unfortunately mixup with our bill having £32 extra for a bottle of wine we didn’t have.
j. c.
Lovely food and great staff, a great dining experience.
D. A.
First visit ....definitely be going back x
S. F.
Went to the Ivy York for a birthday meal. Everything was great, the meal was excellent, the wine was lush(!) and Fiona, or waitress, was really great, an excellent representative for the Ivy brand.
B. E.
Nice venue with good service but food can take some time when busy and have a tendency to not cook bacon so it's at least a little crispy on the breakfast.
J. S.
Excellent service and food as always. Would be 5 stars, but gave a 4 as it did feel a little cramped, especially compared to the Manchester Ivy.
K. J.
Food was delious, staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit
L. S.
Staff were very welcoming food was lovely. Service very good would definitely go back
J.
Great food/ such polite staff/ warm welcome from the 2 girls on the desk at the door / 100% recommend it here 😀
i. s.
5 stars , we only had coffee at the bar but what a fabulous coffee it was thanks , we will have food next time
D. H.
We do enjoy visiting The Ivy. The service is excellent, very attentive, very helpful, always with a smile. We went a couple of times for breakfast and weren't disappointed. Ask for an extra round of toast; it comes with marmalade & jams, a nice pleasant surprise.
I would recommend the blackened cod for main course, and most definitely, the chocolate bombe for pudding 😋
m. g.
Excellent breakfast menu. Service a little slow, but fine if you're not in a hurry
T. W.
Divine experience. Can't wait to go back very soon. Amazing staff. Worth every penny.
T. T.
Not cheap, but Fantastic service, great food so really didn't mind stumping up. Im not a fan of having a service charge attached to my bill, but I had no issue in this instance. We were mainly looked after by Maggie who did an amazing job. She made us feel that we were the only table she was looking after during a very busy pre Christmas lunchtime. We'll be back!
J. M.
Lovely meal & atmosphere & service was great........ recommended!
N. H.
Sublime dining experience utterly stunning decor the designs attention to detail is amazing. Food delicious, world class and satisfying. The staff are attentive yet respectful of privacy and personal space highly recommend 🥇❤️
J. o.
The private room is beautiful. The food was gorgeous (shout out to the blackened cod), and the setup was relaxed and covid friendly.
Staff were friendly, on the ball and sneakily expert at getting you to drink more. Be warned!
A. T.
Busy, try to book in advance, but once you're in you'll never want to leave. Saturday lunch was a quick bite outside as we were on a tour (crawl) of the local haunted pubs. Sunday, however, was a late lunch, so happy they were able to find us a table upstairs, the restaurant is incredible, the parmesan and truffle chips are lovely, I'm not sure you can pick a bad meal there. The staff are exceptional, as expected, and again fail to disappoint. Is there a sixth star anywhere.
C. H.
We have been a couple of times and the food was delicious and the staff were very attentive. We had the afternoon tea the first time. The sweet part was better than the savory. It is quite a large venue so not what you would call cozy but has a lovely atmosphere
But saying that I would recommend this place
j. k.
Lovely environment, great service, beautiful food and cocktails.
J. S.
Cocktails were amazing, fab staff and atmosphere.
C. J.
Simply wonderful!! Amazing food and truly fantastic service - compliments, not only to the chef, but the wait staff who were so subtly attentive. Highly highly recommend.
P. B.
Lovely place nice staff food good just small portions
A. C.
Great welcome, great atmosphere, nice food and drinks and fantastic customer service!
W. W.
As you would expect the from the Ivy it was just perfect, welcoming staff, great atmosphere and lovely food
N. O.
Absolutely fantastic service first class. Can't wait to go again
J. K.
Amazing bar with very attentive staff very eager to please and recommend making excellent cocktails for us.
P.
absolutely stunning venue, beautiful ambience lovely friendly staff and the food is amazing, we went there to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary and all the staff congratulated us and we received a complimentary desert to celebrate.
S. H.
The staff were friendly but the breakfast was decent. Unfortunately the milk for our tea was curdled, but the worst part of the experience was the overpowering smell of fish throughout the building.
Z. W.
Redeemed, this was a complementary meal following a poor previous experience. I didn't want to return but my friend did so we agreed to give The Ivy another chance and I'm glad I did, the food today was delicious and the service was enough to be attentive without being too much. Thank you
B. M.
Food really good. Tha rabbit dish was great.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Enjoy your meal.
A. H.
Quite honestly, it's just very over priced. The bread was fantastic but the food was generally just ok. Nothing that made it stand out, especially not for the price.
s. c.
My friend and I went to the Ivy for lunch. As we expected it was first class. The menu is varied, interesting and expensive so we asked for the lunch menu, you can get two courses for £16. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the artwork on display is very eclectic. The food was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The staff were very professional and polite and the house wine was very good.
B. H.
Me and my girlfriend were in York looking for a place to eat out for my 22nd birthday, we approached 5 restaurants and all of them turned us away for being ‘fully booked’ when each one had plenty empty tables. We tried the Ivy thinking we would be turned away cause it was very busy but the waiter Sam managed to reserve us a table just in the nick of time. He was very polite and confident.
I work as a Butcher and the Sirloin steak I ordered was cooked to perfection; the best steak I have ever had. Lovely atmosphere and vibe, and the staff were extremely professional and quick to tend to any queries that we had.
I understand the prices are high and there is an automatic service charge added to your bill which raises ones expectations. These expectations were met in my opinion and we left very pleased with the experience 😁.
J. H.
Love The Ivy, food exceptional staff the best, nothing too much trouble, totally recommend
t. l. i.
Absolutely brilliant. Could have eaten double the food they served.
p. N.
Fine dining for dinner followed by cocktais at the bar....excellent
D. G.
A really good dining experience with lovely food
S. J.
Lovely place for breakfast, however the food and coffee could have been a bit warmer
G. B.
We went for an anniversary meal, the front of house staff were very understanding as we were 10 mins late.
The food as A1 very nice and left you wanting more. The only thing wrong was the waitress didn't really engage with us and never smiled once, I noticed she was the same with every other table she served, this to me is part of dining out especially when you consider this is not a cheap restaurant and the service charge is automatically added to the bill, so I expect service with a smile. We will return and hopefully this feedback is taken on board.
J. H.
Lovely place only went for drinks, we've heard so much about it and it seemed quite down to earth we enjoyed the one drink we had and the bar staff were kind and offered suggestions.
J. R.
Best breakfast ever especially eggs benedict. Staff are amazing always feel really spoilt and special.
C. C.
Amelia was a fantastic attentive waitress food was amazing wine recommendations superb
S. F.
A truly wonderful atmosphere. Incredibly accommodating staff and a brilliantly prepared menu selection. Can get a bit cosy so bare that in mind if you have accessibility requirements but im sure the staff would make necessary adjustments if notified in advance. Would absolutely recommend for an evening meal or a cheeky afternoon drink.
I. S.
Brilliant setting to eat and drink in style
J. G.
Went for brunch and cocktails on a Friday morning. Hadn't booked but was able to sit and eat at the bar. Staff clearly working flat out but still professional and attentive, food was good as always. Left full and happy 10/10
C. G.
I'm afraid a rather mediocre breakfast. We were here 2 weeks ago and my wife had scrambled eggs and RAVED about them. We were walk-ins and she nagged constantly to go back. Last week, we needed a booking so ended up going to Betty's instead (which, the Imperial Breakfast was divine & highly recommended) We booked to go back today and the scrambled eggs were really quite dull. My wife was disappointed and said they were just like mine at home (is that an insult?) and totally different to two weeks ago. On top of waiting ages for the bill and eventually having to put masks and coats on to go get a member of staff (bearing in mind, now quite a lot of tables empty) it was all just a bit mediocre. Did it warrant the £33+ bill? No.
On the plus side, have friends coming to visit in summer and know now to avoid bringing them here (the Ivy in the Lanes in Brighton where they live, is so much nicer)
S. M.
Great atmosphere, warm and friendly service by the bar. Feels like luxury.
A. W.
Fabulous cocktails and brilliant mixologists. We had a lovely evening.
S. J.
All the foods are delicious. One of my friend told me that The Ivy would never disappoint you with their foods and I guess that is true. Even we randomly order foods from the menu, all our foods and drinks turn out to be fabulous. I also love the vibe, the cleanliness of the restaurant, and the friendliness of the staffs who took care of us. 5 star meal for me.
E. C.
4 of us went for afternoon tea. It was lovely. Lovely establishment, good service, but didn't agree with a service charge been included on the bill. It should have been our choice of we wanted to pay a tip.
J. C.
Had a lovely time here for lunch. Service was excellent, the staff were so polite and helpful. Food was gorgeous and cocktails perfect. Would love to visit again without a doubt.
B. B.
Lovely lunch here yesterday - we hadn’t reserved but there was no queue (Next door’s famous Q went round the corner). We were quickly given a table outside, and had a very tasty & freshly prepped meal. Inside the decor is very modern Art Deco opulent & the upstairs dining room is where I’ll book next time!
Ps Ladies don’t forget to look up at the fabulous ceiling decor in the Ladies!
L. H.
As always the Ivy delivers with great cocktails that don't scrimp on alcohol.
J. B.
Lovely food, good atmosphere and friendly staff
D. M.
Didn't have the ingredients for the dish I wanted on the day so ordered a £25 medium steak and it came welldone. No one came to check on the table once the food arrived. Staff where pleasant and atmosphere is nice, but all in all very mediocre experience.
A. C.
Calm relaxing place to visit in york, great food and drink if you're looking for an upper-class experience. It will make a delightful day out.
G. R.
Excellent restaurant with a good menu, a great selection of drinks and attentive staff. Our meals were tasty and promptly served. The dessert a chocolate bomb was as much a show as it was a delicious treat. Well done to everyone involved.
A. H.
Ivy fantastic place to eat great ambiance. The food is lovely. Service is brilliant. Just couldnt fault it at all. Very expensive tho but worth it.
S. S.
Staff very polite and friendly and fantastic breakfast and service.
M. J.
Oftentimes a place like this can be overwhelming or intimidating but my first visit was amazing and can’t recommend enough. As a rare treat (in this case for a birthday), it’s worth every penny: beautiful building and interior, incredibly polite, helpful, warm and friendly staff and insanely tasty food and drink. Such a vast range it was almost hard to chose but was delighted with every course! Definitely come here at least once in your life!
J. D.
Booked for 11 guests for dinner 26th August unfortunately had to take 2 tables. Our table the staff were very attentive and the food exceptional. Delicious and creative. Very busy but still received our food in a timely manner. Our friends on the second table found the service somewhat wanting at times and were very unfortunate to be sat adjacent to two extremely rude guests who spoiled what was otherwise a wonderful meal and evening. If you want a quiet meal then perhaps avoid peak times! Otherwise superb.
J. B.
Great food and service. Little bit spendy, but it's worth it.
S. M.
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and excellent staff!
E. F.
Fabulous service xx we got drinks at the luxurious bar and had great meals.
P.
As you'd expect, this is the Ivy, so service, food, and location is excellent. The décor is rich but tasteful. Staff very attentive and helpful.
It is possible for wheelchair users to use this restaurant.
Not sure about parking as I was visiting the city for first time.
If your in York make a reservation and enjoy.
J. S.
Me and my partner visit York at least once every year and this place is by far one of our favourite cocktail bars. Staff are so attentive and polite. Well worth paying that bit extra money for top class service.
R. B.
Lovely place to eat. Perfect for special occasions
A. W.
Perfect service yesterday Lunch time, in particular the customer service from Mitchell which was brilliant. Could not recommend enough. Thankyou 😊
J. P.
Service was great. Food was a little underwhelming especially for the price
U.
Well what can I say...for me the Ivy is always a luxury. Excellent, food, service was exceptional.
S. E.
You can't beat The Ivy for breakfast.... or any other time really.
Great breakfast, super service, really good experience.
Highly recommend
l. t.
Sat outside people watching on a lovely sunny day. Had 2 cocktails, they are pricey and took a while to come but staff were very friendly and they were good quality cocktails. Loved the ladies toilets worth a look at for deco
C. S. (.
Waitress was amazing..she got the tips if you paid cash...if you paid card it was shared out between the staff..would go back
A. H.
Great atmosphere and restaurant. Service attentive and food excellent especially set menu, which was great value.
S. T.
Brilliant ambience, attentive staff and superb food!!
J. B.
Great place, lovely surroundings and good food. Only negative as it was our first visit on a Sunday would have liked a roast option on the menu.
C. E.
Staff are great. Setting is great. I thought the food was more like a posh Harvester though - nothing overly special unfortunately.
s. g.
Lovely place....always eat here when at york
J. H.
Sublime! Outstanding! A wonderful visit.
K. S.
We love this place. Great service. Food and drinks always exceptional. Staff are so friendly and accommodating. One of our York favourites.
M. H.
Very disappointing. For the prices charged the food wasn't that good. However, the staff were excellent.
S. E.
Enjoyed the experience but with the over inflated prices you pay on every item you consume, why would you want to pay a service charge.
R. L.
Services was obviously exceptional the food was divine and the mock tails are the tastiest things ever also the server we had (filler queen) was so nice and was very reasonably priced
A. R.
Quick pre lunch drink, nice shaded area outside good service as always.
J. M.
Beautiful art deco decore, good service and excellent food.
J. H.
Gorgeous food, service, ambience and toilets!
L. A.
Nothing exceptional - overpriced. No veg with shepherd's pie, and very salty! The company l was with made the occasion - pleasant festive surrounding, too. But wouldn't rush to go again
C. G.
A bit expensive for breakfast but very good food and service.
D. C.
Decent food amazing drinks and staff was amazing 👏
d. w.
Pretty place but food a bit disappointing, service friendly but again, everything came out together when we had asked for it not to be and some food was cold. Nice experience overall and ladies toilets are worth a look!
R. F.
The Ivy was absolutely lovely! We very much enjoyed our romantic meal, we were sat on a lovely comfy corner table. Our waitress was very friendly and good with recommendations & we enjoyed the food she recommended!
A. R.
The food was thoroughly delicious, not one under par course amongst the three of us visiting. But ...Some things weren't available which was only made apparent after we had chosen which leaves you with a disappointed feeling. We were seated in the middle of the main route for the waiters so it felt like a corridor and was draughty. And we weren't asked if we needed vegetarian menus and only got them because we asked when realising items seen online weren't on the menus given. Small niggles but means it wasn't a five star experience.
K. C.
I would especially like to thank Jonny and Holly for the EXCELLENT customer service they gave when my daughter and I visited the Ivy this morning for breakfast. We had a slight issue with our food which they rectified within minutes and couldn't do enough. There customer service was impeccable. All staff were polite, friendly and extremely welcoming. Thank you for making our breakfast so enjoyable 🙏
R. J.
Really friendly staff, excellent food.
J. M.
Fabulous place! Amazing food and fantastic service... Atmosphere upstairs was lovely and not so busy.
Maggie who was our waitress was amazing, really friendly and efficient! Gave advice on what cocktails to choose and made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. Thank you 😊
M. S.
Great atmosphere and attentive service, superb tasty food beautifully presented, wine was a bit pricey but was also one of the nicest Malbecs weve had so no complaints and cant wait for the next special occasion to go back.
K.
Delicious food! It is quite pricey but it’s worth it. Great atmosphere. Would recommend!
R. S.
In my opinion, the best restaurant in the city walls. Really, really nice food, great atmosphere, excellent waiter service and a lovely drinks menu. The best bit for me is the price given the quality of food and service.. being a Yorkshire man this really hits the spot.
C. W. (. W. J.
I heard good things about this place so I took the girlfriend for a date night…
Admittedly this isn’t my usual type of place to eat and was unsure when I first walked in but sooo glad I went!!
The food was amazing, staff was super friendly and the whole vibe was brilliant.
N. M.
Great quality food and a lovely atmosphere and staff. However, the bill has grown a lot over the last couple of years. A bit pricey for me these days.
R. D.
Wonderful choice of food and drinks. Staff professional and friendly, a credit to the brand.
Though sitting outside on a balmy day, impressive decor indoors. Dare I say a more inviting atmosphere than the original venue in London.
Congratulations.
A. B.
Delicious poached eggs and toast. The eggs where very fresh. It would have been a 5 but they brought a pot of tea for 2 with 1 tea bag and it was so weak we had to ask for another tea bag.
C.
Did not meet expectations or live up to the legendary reputation - Food was ok, service was ok, restaurant itself was nice but very loud, crowded and busy. But its 'The Ivy' a name synonymous with luxury, exclusivity and exceptional standards - What I experienced felt much more like a slightly upmarket chain restaurant; Having spent £200 for 2 people, You might have expected to come away having had a night to remember.. Instead it was a very very average experience. However, big shout out to our waiter (Forgot your name) who recognised it was our anniversary and brought out a profiterol with a candle in it. That was a nice touch to an otherwise unremarkable evening.
T. T.
Good service nice food but not sure it was 'that nice'
S. T.
Great atmosphere, lovely brunch. Would come again.
A. b.
Absolutely beautiful food and ambience. The service was friendly and fantastic. We received Complimentary drinks for what was a really short wait which they didn’t have to give us but were very kind to. The maitre’d (Johnny) and the young red haired girl who served us were so friendly and welcoming. Thank you Ivy for making dining out as normal and enjoyable as possible. Would definitely go back again and would recommend 10/10
T. D.
Friendly service and lovely atmosphere, cocktail menu looked very good however a limited food menu and they had ran out of the specials.
T. B.
Went for breakfast with my wife, brilliant service and food
T.
Food was excellent staff very friendly.
Downside the reception lady not friendly at all & scowls a lot which isn't good for first impressions.
Waiting staff couldn't do enough for us
Would recommend.
A. L.
We enjoyed our annual couples Christmas meal at the ivy this year. We was not disappointed.
We enjoyed some delightful food, fantastic service and great atmosphere.
A little of the pricey side due to the cocktails, but that wouldn't put me off visiting again.
Definitely worth a visit.
B. H.
Very nice, beautiful building, nice atmosphere and the food was really good. One small criticism is...if you're charging top price please make sure every chip is edible. We had a lot of Sharp, hard ends amongst ours. The staff were a joy.
P. S.
We booked The Ivy as a treat for our wedding anniversary, the restaurant is lovely and has a great atmosphere. Our waiter for the evening was very helpful and the quality of the food was superb. The drinks however were taking 15-20 mins to come each time, we wasn’t too bothered by this, but our waiter apologised and offered us a free tea/coffee at the end. We didn’t however have time to take up this offer because as soon as we put our desert spoons down, another staff member “Jonny” approached and told us our 1hr45min limit was up and we would need to move to the bar area to finish our cocktails. We didn’t fancy sitting at the bar as it was very busy with staff and social distancing could not be maintained so we drank up quickly and left. We were aware of the time limit, but the food and drinks were very slow to arrive. If the restaurant cannot serve up 3 courses in the time slot, this should be increased. Would not recommend.
M. P.
Very nice restaurant overall, it has a separate menu for vegetarians and vegans which is nice and makes it easier to order. The service was very good and the staff were polite. However, the chair was uncomfortable to sit in for a 2 hour meal.
M. S.
We had a coffee stop. The coffee was delicious and there was a very relaxing atmosphere. The staff were helpful and attentive. The restaurant had good covid precautions in place and high standards of cleanliness - the bar was sparkling
K. F.
Decent food in very pleasant surroundings.
A. O.
V tasty, though had to assemble hamburger (unless it was intended to be deconstructed but if so that was lost on me)
A. M.
Amazing food, great staff very attentive!
P. m.
An amazing afternoon spent in a fabulous place, food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Highly recommend.
S. W.
The employees were friendly and professional enough, but they should be as a 12.5% tip is automatically added to your already overpriced bill. I counted 12 employees walking around the restaurant, more employees than customers. But why did two simple breakfasts take at least 40 minutes to be served? With the wait, we had 2 cups of americano coffee each which cost about £12, with out total being over £44. We were told the only seating was at the bar, thought 6 empty tables were visible in the restaurant. It made me fell like we didn't have the 'look' they wanted to put on show. We won't be going back.
K. D.
Lovely restaurant in a great location. Really special menu. Food was superb, beautifully prepared to the highest standards. Staff were top notch from the moment we arrived.
D. D.
We had a lovely breakfast. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The decor is Absolutely Beautiful. Most definitely coming back again!
L. M.
Superb Scrambled eggs and Smoked salmon ,nice surroundings pleasant Staff
G. C.
The Ivy in York gives the illusion of being overpriced, but I can assure persons wanting to visit that you can spend as little or as much as you wish. The ambiance is superb as you would expect, while the food and service is exceptional, A table reservation is essential, we had a table reserved for 1pm, and while entering someone enquired about a table, and the next available was 9:15pm. Interestingly the Ivy now has tables outside and these did not seem to be reserved.
D. R.
First of all our table was ready a tad early which was great! When we went in we were well looked after, service was quick and friendly, food was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
J. S.
Posh place for food. The staff is nice, the decoration is nice, but the food is unremarkable.
R. B.
Awesome food and lovely service. Possibly the best food we had in York in our two-week break there in September 2021. Can't wait to return TBH.
L. B.
Excellent service. We opted for the set lunch menu which was lovely. Would definitely be going again
l. s.
Lovely, friendly and professional eatery.
First time we have eaten there and this was a birthday present for me (yes I know it's a little late!) I would definitely eat there again, thank you.
D. G.
My partner and I travelled from Liverpool for the weekend. Amazing customer service from Sanket. He was incredibly attentive and really added to our experience at the Ivy. The food was good but in my opinion a little bit pricey for what it was. Very gorgeous place.
R. I.
Wow!! This was beautiful! Had such an amazing time! We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary and they bought over the extra desert! It was such a surprise a lovley touch! Atmosphere was lovley they make you feel so welcome. Thankyou Ivy we will see you again!
M. T.
Gorgeous interior... Very friendly staff... Presentation of food was very good... The food quality was also of a high standard, attentive waiter service, always topping up your wine etc... (if you buy a bottle like we did ) was very satisfying that at the end of the meal I was full to burst. Has the concept or people's idea that it's expensive but to be fair found it reasonable for 3 course and a bottle of wine and water. (under £110) for two people. Lovely anniversary cake with a chocolate piece saying happy anniversary. Lovely.
L. S.
Lovely afternoon tea with my daughter and daughter in law. Excellent staff. Even had gluten free . X
s. j.
Beautiful food in a lovely atmosphere! Staff friendly and nothing was any trouble for them. We had a wonderful evening for my 50th birthday! I even got alittle birthday cake.
g. W.
Fabulous meal of classic dishes. Brilliant service and just had such a lovely meal and afternoon. Will definitely go again, and try out other Ivy restaurants
A. H.
We sat outside and enjoyed the watching the fans in the run up to the Euro Final. The food was excellent and we were pleasantly surprised to be offered a free glass of champagne each to commemorate the occasion.
M. M.
Booked for breakfast. Staff very attentive. Food delivered hot and with not too long a wait. Quite expensive but a class restaurant so smiled and paid😁 Thank you for a beautiful end to our stay in York.
K. w.
Excellent service and food. The staff aren't exactly warm and welcoming though... professional to a fault but missing the friendly sparkle.
D. G.
Beautiful restaurant visited yesterday for my birthday the staff are very friendly, clean tidy table food was excellent and we'll prepared, nice atmosphere
A. C.
Lovely decor, great service and beautiful food reasonably priced.
L. H.
I couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough. It was suggested to me as I'm not from York and I wanted somewhere special to celebrate my best friends 40th birthday. They didn't disappoint.
The staff were all amazingly polite and friendly and remembered our names. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and inviting. The food portions were really big ( we couldn't eat it all) and tasted so fresh and the sugar snap peas were out of this world.
At the end of the meal they brought over a little cheesecake with raspberries and a candle and a Happy Birthday sign on it for my best friend. Didn't make a fuss and go over the top and sing Happy Birthday, which made her day. If you're in York, The Ivy is a must.
S. M.
Afternoon tea was delicious and a birthday treat to myself the chicken and truffle sandwiches was so tasty and beautiful presented scones and cakes .highly recommended but certainly not cheapest but quality there .
k. s.
A birthday treat and what a treat ! Food and service was top notch !
L. B.
We had a great time here. Service and food are excellent. The creme brulé is gorgeous.
D. O.
Had a wonderful meal. Staff were excellent and very attentive. The food was 5 star. I would definitely recommend
C.
Some great food here, the Ivy Hamburger was nice, the chips were nice, only fault was I felt the chips went cold quick. The fish and chips looked a nice portion of fish.
G. W.
This establishment is simply excellent. From the greeting at the door to the farewell on leaving could not have been better. The order for food and drinks was quick and exceptionally professional. The quality of the food could not have been better, really really good. If 10 stars were available to give, I would have no hesitation in giving them. A truly exceptional establishment.
S. W.
Lovely surroundings, team were really nice and polite. Delicious breakfast.

Have been to the Ivy dozens of times and it never fails to impress. The menu changes frequently but they have the favourites that stay put. Monkfish curry and shepherd's pie are just wonderful. It is more expensive than most restaurants in the area, but the quality is fantastic.
L. T.
Amazing food. Really polite staff. Expensive but worth the money.
W. n.
It was OK, but could have been better. We had to wait a long time to be served and then one of our drinks didn't turn up. Had to ask twice for it. The service was not that good considering all the hype of the place. Will not go back. 🙄
A. E.
Excellent as expected, fillet stake fell apart on the touch. Lovely vegetables and fast friendly service.
V. D.
OK but nothing like the original Ivy. Food was OK but nothing memorable and service was fine. Probably wouldn't visit again though. Had much better experiences at local restaurants, especially for the price.

We booked an afternoon tea yesterday but unfortunately due to their reduced menu we couldnt have one. It was a very rainy day and we were soaked but the fantastic staff gave us a lovely seat and some drinks to have while we dried off. The did offer the full menu to us but we hadnt planned to eat a full meal so declined. They let us sit there without any pressure and were all very helpful in advising where we would get what we wanted. We will re book for a meal next time and wont forget the kindness of all the staff in there. It is a beautiful place to eat and a bonus to be greeted and served by such welcoming lovely people. Thank you.

We visited The Ivy York yesterday for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were treated extremely well from the minute we walked through the door until we left. Our waiter Johnny was friendly, polite, respectful and made sure that we fully enjoyed our dining experience. The food was superb, the swordfish was without doubt the best I have ever tasted while the lamb my wife was served melted in the mouth. Lovely decor and ambiance. An excellent afternoon. We will be back.
V. L.
Excellent presentation of food which also tasted delicious!
P. W.
Just fantastic! Great menu choice and surprisingly affordable. Staff were friendly and efficient. Even though we were a large party and the restaurant was full, nothing was too much trouble and the food was beautiful. Will definitely go back
E. C.
Great breakfast quick service would recommend the omelet
D.
Amazing restaurant . Food was excellent and not the usual fare you find. I had their signature Shepherds pie amazing. Well worth every penny.
A. P.
Good service and food. Expensive but you get what you pay for. More treat than everyday indulgence.
J.
Absolutely fabulous food and excellent service at fair prices. They were so nice that I didn't like to say that the gravy was a tad strong on the duck. Still very edible, very tasty. Just the right amount of food. Lovely building. Just superb. You have to come here. It knocks the socks off most other upmarket restaurants in York and in fact a lot of Yorkshire. Well worth coming to. I ll be going again as soon as I can. Yum.
R. B.
Utterly Fabulous! Great food, beautiful decor and very friendly, helpful and polite staff. This lovely restaurant is right next door to a famous place (beginning with B) that had a huge queue - we walked straight into The Ivy and got our meal served within a very reasonable time. Highly Recommended!
A. C.
Nice place. Went for afternoon tea with a group but I was very disappointed. The sandwiches were dry. They had obviously been made well in advance and not covered. There were only 2 fingers and one tiny roll. The rest was sweet, cakes etc all beautifully presented but tiny amounts for £19.50.
T. K.
Very enjoyable experience, staff go above and beyond to look after you and serve you.
K. J.
Excellent vegetarian breakfast ! Belated birthday celebration with girlfriends
j. m.
This place is amazing. So relaxed, and very very well staffed. The staff are a credit to this place, especially Mia. We have been in twice while we have been visiting York, she has looked after us both times, she is a very polite and attentive young lady and nothing is too much trouble for her. We will most definitely be coming back.

I visited The Ivy today for the very first time with my wife and mother in law. The experience was fantastic!
The quick temperature check was easily done and we were taken to a lovely table. The interior design is classic yet modern, beautiful looking venue.
The food was fabulous, me and my wife both had the best Eggs Benedict that we’ve ever had! Having been to other supposedly quality establishments previously and let down, I was really surprised at the friendly service and even better food.
We even stopped by later before a long journey home and quietly asked if I could make use of their toilet and they obliged, which shows a higher class of service. Given the restrictions on availability of public toilets due to the Covid-19 situation, this small and kind gesture shows that The Ivy is a step above the rest.
Highly recommended restaurant serving fantastic food and brilliant negronis to boot!
Thank you to all of the team today for making mine and my families day out that little bit more special!

Had a great time with my sisters i

Outstanding food again on Christmas Eve.
2 yrs ago - Delicious meal yesterday. The vegan and vegetarian options were outstanding. A popular place with good service and a lovely ambience to meet relatives and celebrate.
M. L.
Wow! Lovely food, very pricey. Was a bit shocked with the addition of the service charge. However amazing food, couldn't fault!

Magdalene (Maggie) is a legend! My brother and I visited The Ivy the other night. Food outstanding, staff awesome and Maggie was an absolute delight, real X factor personally. An utterly delightful dining experience. Cannot recommend The Ivy highly enough.
D. L.
Wonderful meal, great friendly staff. As a chef myself the food is amazing, yes it's a little pricey but its bloody good so you don't mind. Our next visit to York will definitely include a visit back here.
E. J.
Had a brilliant meal sat at the bar on Sunday, lovely food and atmosphere completed by top notch service from the bartender (I think his name was Luke) I will be returning every time I'm in York, thanks 👍🏻
L. A.
Fantastic food, would've preferred to have our bottle of wine left on the table so we could help ourselves and not wait with empty glasses to get the waiters attention. Apart from that excellent. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
C. M.
Absolutely perfect. I was visiting York and dined here for my birthday the atmosphere food and wine was just superb highly recommend. Service was first class and the waiter was both pleasant and helpful a great place to dine for all occasions.
L. M.
Beautiful setting, great service and delicious food
A. H.
Coffee, sat outside a guy singing three tenors stuff over the way. Nice.

The Cream Tea we had was lovely. The coffee was the best I have tasted for 18 months. Lovely helpful staff. Will definitely go again.

Typical chain of restaurant , nothing special but ok
K. B.
Excellent food and good service.
I. J.
Lovely meal for my birthday. The cherry sundae was simply devine. Will return.
D. H.
Exceeded expectations. The food was very nicely presented with great flavours. Service times between courses was just right. Drinks were a little pricey. English Spritz was delicious though the Strawberry and Vanilla Soda the only disappointment of the evening.
D. G.
Beautiful restaurant came here for my birthday staff friendly and professional beautiful decor lovely lunch recommend to people for a special occasion
c. b.
Superb..... Excellent food, friendly and polite staff, a great all round experience

Our experience was disappointing considering how much hype there is around The Ivy.
We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning.
The order took 40 minutes to come out and some meals were cold on arrival.
We had to send some things back and it took a while for them to come back out.
The staff were attentive and did their best to rectify the situation but it wasn’t what we expected for the price. The dishes that came out hot were very good and well presented.
D.
Lovely food, great atmosphere, fantastic staff. The place is buzzing.
A. S.
"Quite courteous" customer service - probably a bit selective.
Fantastic strawberry daiquiri - but definitely not at that price. Although one can assume the pricing comes from trying to recuperate the cost of leasing.
The food was good too.
Three stars because for such a place one would expect - exceptional customer service, parking (totally missing) and just a generally good vibe in the atmosphere. Didn't get any from here.
D. C.
We could only get a booking for 1130, which wasn't the end of the world, but I was disappointed when people that came in five minutes after us were served ahead of us. Food good quality and varied.
R. P.
Great food, service is brilliant, lovely setting
E. R.
Unbelievable food and the service is second to none. Not had food as beautifully cooked in a long time, the waiters and waitresses are incredibly attentive and welcoming, explain the menu and your food choices to you clearly, was also a relatives birthday who they brought a courtesy beautiful birthday dessert out for on the house. Literally cant fault it and will be back very soon!
D. B.
Lovely surroundings, exceptional food and really nice and attentive staff. The Yorkshire Manhattan is by far the greatest thing I have ever drunk
s. l.
Beautiful rooms, a touch of elegance in the heart of York. Food and drink of quality, taste and freshness. Book to avoid disappointment. Face temperature scan on entrance to dining, look smart! Very good service from the start.
B. M.
Difficult to review this place. The food was delicious and in my opinion inexpensive and the service was perfect, inside it's a really nice place. But the drinks are really expensive and the 12% at the end of the bill was a bit odd and found out only at the end. Could have been 5 stars.. But would still recommend it for a nice dinner.
L. W.
Excellent! Beautiful food in v special surroundings. Highly recommend
g. s.
Absolutely delightful from start to finish, drinks, wines, food and staff and the bread was fantastic too.
A must if you haven't been. Always book ahead.
L. G.
Food was good, service good but the price was so high for the amount of food you got!
J. S.
A wonderful venue. The place is immaculately clean and beautifully presented.
Myself and a friend have this as our 'first stop off' for a catch up drink when walking into the centre of York from the train station, bypassing other bars along the way. It's about a five minute walk from the station but right next to all the shops etc.
I've never eaten at this particular 'Ivy', we always just treat ourselves to a cocktail at the bar. They obviously cost a little more than what you might pay elsewhere but they are absolutely worth it, both in terms of taste and presentation!
Whilst more than one could turn pricey, I would definitely recommend a visit at least once!
C. O.
Had dinner at the Ivy boxing night it was absolutely amazing, food was great and the service first class. Would recommend it to anyone 👍
H. B.
Lovely place, decor and service fine, however only ordered two pots of tea as we had already eaten elsewhere. We asked for a corner seat as my husband wanted to sit in comfort but was told they were reserved despite noone arriving to sit there before we left. Regretted not asking for another teabag as the tea appeared to be their own blend and was too weak for me and my husband, hence the low star rating. Would visit again for a meal to be able to give a truer review.

Very tasty and great service

Been here a number of times and each time it doesn't disappoint. The food was excellent and the waiter, who's name I didn't catch, was friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
R. S.
Great food and service, even when the steak came out over cooked and sent back the staff couldn't have done more. Recommended.
K. F.
Fabulous as always , breakfast was delicious, staff were friendly and very efficient, such a lovely touch been given a profiterole type cake with ‘happy anniversary’ afterwards ! Thank you
A. A.
Fantastic place. Amazing menu choice super service and loved the ambience and interiors are to die for. Will be going again very soon.
S. B.
Had full English breakfast which was not large. All the items were small but very good quality and in the end didn't feel over full. Staff were very attentive and friendly and the food arrived wuite quick. Latte x2 was also very nice. What surprised me was on the Friday of York Races it wasn't that full?
J. A.
Great food, excellent service, recommended

Great food service excellent

Beautiful food and wonderful service.

We had an incredible experience yesterday, the service was exemplary from Roman and the food was divine.
C. L.
Excellent British restaurant serving well presented quality dishes. Nice ambience with friendly, helpful staff. Prices good value, certainly not cheap. Great location. What's not to like!
N. H.
Absolutely outstanding, great food. They tried endlessly to get us a taxis but it was really busy so the manager walked us to our apartment so we didn't get lost. Couldn't help enough, the waitress who looked after us a young girl who was having her second baby was lovely & friendly & very helpful.
M. D.
The best restaurant ever, not only is the food to die for, but all the staff are helpful and happy. The manager runs a tight ship , which is well oiled machine, each staff member knows exactly what to do and when, very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Lastly they do not call you a customer but a guest of The Ivy, little touches such as a numbered ticket for you coat and belongings . Amazing top marks to the whole team.
J. Y.
Had breakfast. Very good food and excellent service. Very smart restaurant with first class facilities. Didn't find it over priced considering the quality of the food, service and surroundings. Certainly worth while for a special meal, I would definitely go again.
C. M.
Booked this restaurant for an evening meal for my wifes birthday, having been here before x3 previously. Really looking forward to another great meal with great service in a pleasant atmosphere,, How wrong can you be,, maybe my fault for booking a Saturday evening.
On arrival the table was not ready, (not a great issue),, so was led to the bar by a pleasant member of staff to wait, which was cramped with people at the bar, and others waiting for tables.
Table became available shortly after and we were escorted to a window table for two,,
Unfortunately it was soon evident the overriding level of noise from groups dining in the restaurant ruled out any chance of conversation without bellowing across the table, and the idea of a meal in a pleasant ambiance was fantasy..
As a result we gave up the table and abandoned our visit,
I have rated this review solely on the pleasant member of staff who greeted us and facilitated our table,,,, If you are booking this restaurant be aware that Saturday evening may not meet your expectations unless you are prepared for groups producing ear shattering decibels.. We will probably return, but it would definitely be midweek , lesson learned

Visited Ivy - York for an afternoon tea with my Mum as a treat for her. We arrived just a bit earlier before the afternoon tea service started, but they offered us to have a drink at the bar. Once our table was ready, the receptionist showed us to the table and introduced our waitress for the afternoon. Everything was very pleasant, service was smooth and effortless. The sweet and savory treats were absolutely fantastic with really flavourful loose leaf teas. Highly recommended! 5/5

The ivy pretends to be better than it is. The seating and ambience are nice but unless you look the part the service can be a bit slow.
When you book online they don't bother to look at your comments about special occasion or birthday; we booked to celebrate our engagement and they hadn't got the memo! Asked for a window seat, got seated in the back area. Arrived on time for to be told they'd see if they had a table despite the fact we'd booked. It didn't seem as if tables had been reserved at all and we could have turned up and had to wait.
Wine is overpriced and despite having a coat room, they don't coordinate the return of your coats and you paying the bill. Food is nice but overpriced for the area when you can get a wider selection at a better price elsewhere.
S. O.
Great venue with excellent service, all the attention to detail you expect to find with the quality from london, booking is essential as they are always busy.
The roast beef sandwich is amazing with the just and triple cooked chips. Cream tea is very popular and always a great place for a birthday treat.
A. H.
Lovely food, warm and friendly atmosphere, looking forward to our next visit
I. W.
Absolutely fantastic food. Service was excellent.
The best steak I've ever tasted
A. B.
Lovely location in the heart of the city. Attentive, discreet staff. Cosy corner table with great vantage point over the restaurant, which has tasteful, relaxing decor. Beautifully presented and cooked food - I recommend the breakfast - and a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Friendly welcome from Zoe and well looked after by Matt. Thoroughly recommended for a Sunday morning treat.
H. C.
Food is fantastic and the wine list is incredible. Fast/ professional service and the staff knowledge on the food and wine is top standard as you would expect. Food is well priced. Very clean and good atmosphere.
S. M.
We ate from the set lunch menu. Great value and really good food. The restaurant itself felt cold and I struggled initially, but after mentioning it to the server there was no issue in turning off the air con for us and this helped a lot. Service was good.
A. G. S.
Great service and food. Usual Ivy
T. C.
Very nice meal, the venison was on the small side but the taste was divine. We had a great experience and would like to go again. The pork I tried was amazing, large portion and the best pork I have ever tasted.
A. B.
Lovely lunch with impeccable service. The host split my drink and immediately replaced it and then my steak, which was rather tough, no real fault of the restaurant, was removed from the bill and they apologised profusely! Great atmosphere and would definitely return.
T. C.
A great atmosphere, the staff are great and very polite. They had a really good drinks menu, which included a large variety of whiskey's. Really enjoyed our visit and would highly recomend going for food or just a drink.
R. A.
Nice cocktails , silvio head bartender the best.
D. L.
Visited a little while ago, entered to be told no tables available until evening, checked online and able to book for 2pm, called to check they had received my booking online which they had. Entered and was taken to a table so not sure why I was turned away, I assure you I was respectively dressed with good manners! Waiter was very pleasant, tables were close together and fine the other ivys are a lot nicer.
G. S.
Very good food, friendly efficient service, nice range of options on the menu. Often best to book ahead, they get busy, and it's not light on the wallet - but not bad value given the level of service and the quality of the experience.
C. W.
Lovely place to eat, even got my jacket put back on for me felt like a right big deal
C.
Thank you so much for the gentleman at the bar, can't remember his name - but he was excellent! Gave an amazing recipe for a cocktail 🍸see you again soon x
W. P. G. T.
Food was fantastic, however the service let it down. Felt like some staff were looking down at you. Once we had eaten it was like they wanted us out straight away. Not what we wanted when spending good money. This would definitely be 5 stars otherwise
R. S.
High end. Bar staff know what they are doing. Good atmosphere and stylish.
M. M.
Incredible service. Food is so well presented and tastes amazing. Will definitely be back next time I'm in York.
D. K.
A very pleasant environment, with friendly staff.
The food and drink is as good as you would expect in such an establishment. My only bug bear was the plates being cleared from the table while we were still eating a slice of toast from a side plate....
M. H.
Great food and friendly staff. There wasn't a children's menu as such but they accommodated us with a range of options they would do as smaller plates. Really nice evening and we would definitely go back.
M. S.
I've been here twice with my partner, the first time was about a week after it opened and the second was a good few months later. The first time we went, we were blown away, the food was exceptional as was the ambience but what really struck us was the service. It felt like we'd stepped back in time and were in a 1920's club being treated like the celebrities of the time. It was one of the few times in our life that we really could see why one should be willing to pay more for a better experience, not that the prices were that much outside the norm of any decent restaurant.
The second time we went, I was apprehensive as I wondered whether standards might have slipped from that opening week. I have to say, I was pleased to learn that they had not and was just as excellent as the first time.
So, as it stands, its a big thumbs up from us based on our experiences of this Ivy and only this Ivy, we've never been to the one in London so can't compare as some of the other reviews here have done.
Will certainly be going again in 2019.
S. C.
Great decor and ambience. The food was lovely and well seasoned. Service was great, waiters were very attentive and although the place was busy we got our food quite quickly. Prices are reasonable for what you get.
T. A.
We didn’t order any mains but the size of all the starters were plenty and delicious!!! We even came to order the risotto- like dish, wow! The desert was also delightful and the atmosphere and service was great. Can’t wait to try the Covent Garden one!
s.
The staff were top notch, clean and bright. Had lunch, delicious, and wasn't rushed in the slightest.
D. S.
Nice food, bit pretentious and a touch overpriced to be honest. Can fault the service.
C. W.
Great food and excellent service. We did the early menu and it was excellent value.
P. L.
Good high end chain restaurant. Pitches itself as the original version brought to a local level. Service was ok but not as good as the prices would suggest. Food quality was very good if a bit formulaic (but that's what the original London restaurant strived on). Bill for six came in at £500 so go with deep pockets !
A. H.
Superb breakfast with excellent service 👍❤
A. C.
It's just so special 💗 there's never any rush to get you 'out'...
The menu accommodates for all tastes...
The ambience is...well...lovely..
Service...attentive...but not overly so...so you can actually enjoy the company you're in &...obviously the amazing food!
L. K.
Nice environment, food is slightly over priced for what you get, or what I had should I say, however it is very nice, they also include a service charge in your receipt, of £5 when I went with my friend, not sure if it’s more if there’s more people but I don’t think that’s acceptable. A tip should be of choice not just automatically put on the receipt, didn’t pay the service charge. Overall, pricey, but nice food.
F. L.
Wonderful atmosphere and outstanding food. The service was a bit rushed as we were there on a busy bank holiday weekend. The dishes were really nice and wild definitely recommend it for anyone in town for a visit.
J. D.
Arrived at the Ivy on Saturday afternoon 11/05/2019. With a party of nine celebrating my daughters wedding.
Front of house staff so welcoming and friendly.
Perfect table, beautifully laid, service outstanding with attentive own waiter.
Food delicious, ambiance and deco divine.
Fabulous afternoon made more special by celebrating in the Ivy. Will return.
Many thanks
Jill Drinkall ( mother of the bride).
