Cozy, well decorated restaurant with great service and food to match. We ordered the dumplings and the beef to start but it was so good we polished it of before pictures. I really came for the chili chicken and chow mein and both didn't disappoint. The only let down was the black lentils which didn't have any flavor. Also ordered Annapurna chicken and the lamb Tama the latter was really yummy.

A great restaurant. You can feel that the restaurant was built with the heart and full dedication of the staff. It was a pleasure to be there. Stunning interior and atmosphere with the spirit of Nepal. Incredibly delicious and hearty traditional Nepali food. Excellent service. Highly recommend to try traditional Nepali soup such as Mo:Mo Thukpa. I think it will not leave anyone indifferent. Never would have thought that so far away from Nepal you can find such a nice place that is filled with the atmosphere of this beautiful country and people.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The decor is cosy, staff are friendly and helpful when ordering. They take time to explain the menu and describe meals. As a party of seven we ordered a great selection from the menu and then passed the meals around the table to all taste 😋 The standard meals have a good portion size. The inclusive meals are filling and so I didn't need to order my starter however I love Mo:mo 😍. You can see two of the inclusive meals below the Dal Bhat Masu (chicken) And Dal Bhat Macha(salmon), both are delicious. The chow mein was so tasty and the Gurkhali Pork was a huge hit. The only meal we ordered which was not as much of a hit was pork belly (Dharane sungur ko masu) this is a dry cooked meal, the pork belly fat wasn't rendered as much as we would have preferred. Still gald we ordered it to try though. There is a flight of stairs to reach this restaurant as it is above another business.

Stunning food at great prices! Starter were spicy buffalo MOMO, the flavour was "banging" (my wife's words) & steamed lamb MOMO the minced lamb was very good. Mains were just as excellent I had the Gurkha pork curry, maybe best I ever had andy wife pork dish was mouth watering. I also had the Gurkha spice tea (black) it's like mulled wine without the wine, it nice. I also hah the homemade lemonade which was perfect to cleans my pallet. We both had the Nepal liquor coffee to finish, it's very strong (not sure where the coffee is lol). Overall, I highly recommend!

Beautiful food in a lovely place with friendly attentive staff. We've never had Nepalese food before but have looked at this restaurant for at least 10yrs. Today we decided to try it and we are not disappointed. Really unique flavours (cross between chinese/indian/thai) from the starters to the mains and they were all fantastic. Amazing Nepalese restaurant in the heart of York. Tasty food, generously portioned and very attentive service. The chicken choila is delicious and the Nepalese style pork ribs are so tender. My husband & I had dinner here on a Monday night, and we can't recommend this place highly enough. We had two appetizers, two mains, some beer, and finally their special brandy-coffee with toasted rice. All were delicious; the Gurkhali Achar (warm potato salad/pickle) was especially wonderful and surprising, and the Lamb Tama was great. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy; we especially loved that it was above street level, which kept it nice and quiet. It was almost empty when we came in at about 7, but filled up gradually by 8 pm. Service was speedy and unobtrusive, and the prices were very reasonable! Certainly one of the best restaurants in York. The real point here is that we loved the place so much that we got takeout from it only two nights later...

The best Nepali food in the Britain. Having lived and worked for 2 1/2 years in Kathmandu I’m pretty au fait with Nepalese food. The yak and yeti is without shadow of a doubt the most delicious and authentic Nepalese food in Britain today. I cannot recommend it more highly it is Ek Dum Ramro Cha!

This place is just amazing!! Me and my boyfriend visited York for 5 days and went here twice.The staff were so friendly and even recognized us when we came back! Everything here is so tasty there wasn't one thing I disliked. My favourites were the chilli momo, everest lamb curry and momo noodle soup (the broth is so flavourful). Have eaten Nepalese food in many locations in the UK, from restaurants, to Military camps, and even home cooked from an old neighbour. This was the best I've ever had. Today for the first time I tried out Nepalese (Gurkha) food in the Yak and Yeti. I had the Dal Bhat Masu and Masurko Dal which is the Napalese rice curry and dhal with a poppadom and some side dishes. I can confidently confirm that this was one of the best meals I have ever had. It was like a curry that filled me up but not in a way that I felt too full and the food was spectacularly tasty. The tables and facilities were spotless which is not surprising considering their hygiene rating of five out of five. If I could give this place six out of five I would as they are that good. I would recommend this establishment to family, friends and anyone who visits the colourful Town that is York.

This was the first time we'd returned since our first visit shortly after the restaurant opened. The decor has improved a lot since then, but the food is still just as good. Our friends made their first visit with us and they also enjoyed their experience. The only downside is that payment is by cash only; no payment cards accepted. This really needs to be changed, especially as even market stall holders accept credit/debit card payments.

Yummy food. I had momos and lamb tama. Wish they did the large momos like the ones in Nepal. Our two year enjoyed the side dish of fried rice as his meal. Is up stairs for if anyone struggles/ you have a pram. Unpretentious and accommodating. No baby change and nowhere to really do it.

Fantastic meal at a really authentic restaurant. Not a fancy restaurant by any means but some of the best food I can remember having. Came here a couple of days ago for dinner. It was my first taste of Nepalese cuisine and I was not disappointed! It is very similar to Indian food. I had a set meal (a metal plate filled with curry, daal, rice, poppadom, and various other bits) which is like an Indian Thali. Food was very tasty and I enjoyed it. One star knocked off for price (for York, I thought it was quite expensive) and also for cash only.

It was my first time at that restaurant last Friday, although I had been of going for a long while as I had been quite curious about the place. It turned out very good, the food especially. There's quite a lot of choices and just an ordinary person (like me) isn't sure what exactly to expect flavour wise, but it is great. I went for the salmon dish with a portion of rice, and it was very, very good. Also, while the portions might not seem very huge, that is a mistake in thinking: they're just the right size and they're filling and by the end of the meal you will be full and happy. The staff is lovely and helpful and their uniforms are really cool (although I wonder how efficient those are for work).

What a find! Perfect in every way. The service was attentive but not in your face, the ambience was fun and welcoming and the food was lovely. Went here the other day, the food and service was incredible! The restaurant was quiet however I think people may not know that it had reopened since lockdown. The crispy prawn starter was amazing as well as the chilli chips starter. Cannot speak highly enough about the Everest lamb and the beef stir fry was also lovely. The host/manager was very pleasant and helped us through the menu and what to decide. Food came quickly and the restaurant was very clean, with lots of hand sanitizer available, and the manager was wearing a mask also. So much choice on the menu that we will have to back, and cannot wait.

Incredible food from what appears to be a family run business. All of the food is Nepalese inspired and full of flavour. Our server (I never got his name) was really attentive and curious during our meal. Always offering extra drinks when we needed them and clearing plates/bowls as they were being emptied. We paid using a Tastecard for buy one get one free on the main course, but ultimately ended up tipping more than the cost of the main course as the food and service was that good. I really can't rate this place enough!

What an amazing little gem! Loved how the decoration and plates/cutlery used gave you an authentic feel! We had booked a table, as being the weekend. Restaurant is upstairs. Rustic and comfortable looking. There was a more traditional, colourful, large cushioned floor seating arrangement, for the more adventurous. The food was presented in brass bowls and cup type of ware. It was rich flavoursome with spices, which was most welcome and you wanting more. It was a full restaurant, therefore busy, lots of chattering and some people may have found it a tad noisy. However staff did not rush you to finish your meal and seemed quite friendly, therefore making it a relaxing environment.

Busy friendly first floor restaurant just a stone's throw from York Minster. Cuisine is Nepalese so similar in some ways to what is referred to as Indian cuisine in UK but different enough to make it interesting. Dishes suitable for vegans are clearly labelled and atmosphere agreeable.

Great food and friendly service. We are both vegans and there was a lot of choice for us but it would be helpful if the menu clearly stated what was vegan not just vegetarian. A separate vegan section would be great. Just be careful if you are vegan though because I was told that the banana fritters were vegan but when they arrived they were drizzled with honey (hence the 4 star, not 5)

The restaurant is lovely and cosy. The people in the restaurant are the sweetest. We were a group of students visiting York for a day and decided to visit this restaurant before boarding the bus back home. They weren’t open, yet they allowed us to order Momos and served us. We were in a hurry as we did not have a lot of time so they ensured that as soon as 1 portion was ready, they would serve us that. The food was delicious and it was a good way to end the day. I've been here three times and every time the food has been delicious and the service friendly. This is a cosy restaurant with a good atmosphere. The menu is fantastic for people with specific dietary requirements as many common allergens are marked up extremely clearly (I am vegan and gluten free and was able to order easily). I recommend the set meals - they look expensive on the menu but you get a big, complete meal out of it and get to try several dishes.

Interesting and popular gurkha restaurant. The cuisine is similar to Indian food but with some distinct differences. Most importantly perhaps it is much lighter. Some dishes are very spicy, others aren't. The service was good and the prices reasonable.

This is a charming restaurant & one to which I'd happily return. It's a family run affair & food is cooked to order rather than prepared in vats to be scooped out when a hopeful punter pitches up in anticipation of a banquet. York has no shortage of Indian restaurants, neither does our great nation. The wonderful legacy of the lamented & much missed British Empire has a remnant in the variety of foreign cuisine we cherish, but Gurkha dining hasn't as strong enough presence as it deserves. I would encourage everyone to visit this hidden doorway and try something different b

Came here as a couple 3 wks ago and what an experience it was! If you're not quite sure what to expect of Nepalese food then the only way i can describe it is a bit like Indian cuisine but without the heat. The different types of spices used create a taste explosion in the mouth without being overpowering. This is an absolute gem of a place and is a must if you want to try something a little different.

Wonderfully flavorsome, excellent food! Went in for dinner with two friends on a recent Friday night. We started with a selection of vegetable and pork momo (dumpling). They were soft, well spiced, and delicious, and came with a very tasty and mildly spicy dipping sauce. For dinner we each had a meal plate and I could not have been happier with mine. I had the vegetarian plate which came with a black lentil dal-style dish, stewed vegetables in a tomato and ginger (I think?) sauce which included wonderfully succulent bamboo shoots among other things, a bowl of well seasoned sauteed veg, a large pile of rice, a huge and crispy papadam, and a mild and delicious chutney. It was so much food! Too much for me, really, but I couldn't stop eating it. Everything tasted fantastic. Can't wait to go again, but I will order a stand-alone vegetable dish next time instead of the large meal plate. My companions had lamb meal plates. Was too busy eating to ask how theirs was, but they cleaned their plates, so seems all was good.

Damned fine food, good service and friendly staff. We visited in December 2015 at the height of the floods, having booked a couple of weeks in advance. Card payments were down and I had no cash. The owner was flexible enough to accept payment directly into his bank account using my phone.

We had a table booked for half past five but arrived early and they seated us immediately which was very good of them. The service is excellent and the food was absolutely lovely, and very reasonably priced as well. I'd definitely go back.

First time here and was recommended by one of the party. There was a wait between courses which was a little longer than most places, but quickly forgiven with the food. Having had the Aloo Dum, Lamb Everest, and cheesecake I can't say much about the other dishes, but these were gorgeous. I would certainly recommend this place to others. The only slight disappointment/laugh came with the Gurka beer which stated on the menu that it was specially imported, yet on the bottle itself it said it was brewed and bottled in the UK. It was nice beer though and went well with the meal.

Not the easiest place to find but it's well worth the effort. The food is original and reasonable, it's run by a family from the region who are both hospitable and helpful in equal measure. We arrived early and luckily we're shown to a table straight away, the venue filled up very quickly so booking is probably a better idea. We would return at a heartbeat.

I think the soup and the momos were the best of the dishes that we ordered - some were a bit bland and the meat dishes were quite dry. Food was absolutely incredible. I had the Dal Bhat Masu (?) which was expensive but definitely worth it for the flavour. Portions were fairly small for the money but again flavour made up for it. After I had a Mustang coffee - quite pricey at 3.99 and fairly small for the price. VERY strong taste of brandy/whisky and not a lot else. (Marketed as a sweet coffee liqueur) I would avoid unless strong brandy is your type of thing! Drinks were expensive but overall good. Banana lassi was made seemingly with unripe (green) bananas as it had a very strong starchy flavour, not very sweet.
