A very good restaurant if you don't have money problems. Our small family of 4 managed a very tasty and modest meal for a little over £130 for a 4 course meal plus one (!!!) starter for all. Everything was very tasty, excellent steaks, interesting recipes for side dishes. We ordered midium steaks, in reality, in our opinion, the steaks were rather in the middle between light and medium rare. The restaurant itself has a very stylish interior design, appropriate club music, though a bit loud. But when jazz was replaced by more melodic music, it became quieter. Keep in mind that a tip of 10% is included in the bill, but if you are not satisfied with the service, the tip can be excluded from the bill. But the service is really great! We had booked a table in advance, but there were still a few empty tables. In general, everything is excellent, I would rate the restaurant 4.5 out of 5 stars, I can not give 5 stars due to the steaks being cooked and high prices.

The last meal of my visit to York, and I was left very satisfied. Staff were great and we were served very quickly, and the food didn't take long to arrive either. Had dim sum for starters served with pickled vegetables, and soy sauce. Just enough to wet our appetite. I had the wagyu beef burger with a side of Mac and cheese for my main. The burger was really juicy and had a Jack Daniels jam with it. The price was pretty good too for what we got so definitely recommend going

Delicious. Impressed with staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Ordered the sharing platter (medium), four cuts of steak and four sides. Went for breakfast at 10am on a Saturday morning. Was quiet with a lovely ambience to the place. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and plentiful and not overly priced. Great value for money and set us up for the day nicely food-wise.

This place is absolutely incredible! It is an expensive place, on average will be £100 or more between 2 people. But I can emphasize enough how much this is worth the money!! The steak is to die for, amazing cuts of meat, so delicious and tender. The sides are also delicious and their is a wide range of food to choose from. The sticky toffee pudding with biscoff ice cream was the best I have ever had. Cocktails are tasty too! 10/10 highly recommend

Twice now me and my better half have eaten here. This time we ordered the wagyu sharing platter with 4 side options the prawns come part of the meal. There's not much to dislike about the place. Staff are always around to help. My partner says that the chocolate bomb dessert is one of the best she has ever had.

I absolutely adore this place. It was so good but equally super expensive (100% worth it). Everything about the restaurant was immaculate, the wine list was amazing, the service was amazing, the quality of the food was amazing, the lavatory was amazing (lovely and clean, plenty of loo roll, door that worked and no huge gaps above/below the door). I live so far away but if I ever find myself in the area again I will without a doubt be going again!

Wow! What an amazing place to eat. If you like meat - specifically Steak, you're in for a treat! My wife and I had the steak sharer, 4 different cuts of steak which came with garlic prawns and 4 other sides. There was a lot! We had the meat cooked medium and that was perfect for me who usually goes for well done. The meat is succulent and tasty and the sides are well prepared and perfect addition to the steaks. A good selection of drinks and to finish we had the Chocolate Bombe! Recommended! We will certainly go back to try the burgers which also looked fabulous!

Highly recommended. The restaurant is located down a slope between street side buildings. Very well signposted. The interior of the building is a fair size and decorated very well. Definitely has a steakhouse feel to it. Ryan our server really made the whole experience so much better. He was very friendly, laughed and joked with us. Good knowledge of the menu. Just an upbeat lad who is great at what he does! The menu is diverse with some great food choices. Our food was 100% spot on. My girlfriend and I are big foodies, and we just couldn't fault it! The soft seats and benches are comfortable. We had a great experience, which made all the difference to our trip away.

The service here was really good all the way through. Really attentive staff. As you can see the share board was pretty big. The drinks menu was pretty varied with something for everyone. The cheese board was a little bit lack luster as you can see for yourself. But the Cooke dough was to die for. And hopefully next time I visit they can refrigerate the water 😅.

Expected a lot better from the whole experience! It felt as though the waiter didn't want to be there; whether that was because of the temperature or the music in the restaurant I'm unsure, but the temperature was unbearably hot and I was unable to hear my partner due to the music. For a restaurant specialising in steak, maybe I built up what it was going to taste like in my head but it was adequate. The best part of the main was the salad because of the dressing. The steak was similar to any other steak in any old restaurant or pub and the chips tasted like they were cooked from frozen Dessert was tasty, but was more bread and butter pudding than creme brulee. The festive menu did make the meal a little more affordable, but this was not advertised from the waiter or waitress and I do feel like this was missed from a lot within the restaurant. The starter was nice; however, not enough to entice me back.

First time customers at Tomahawk, and we ordered the Wagyu Carnivore Board. Steaks were beautiful, so juicy and tender with a nice little hint of char here and there. The sides — roast potatoes, onions rings and broccoli — were all very tasty (best onion rings I've had!), although personally I would have preferred the broccoli to be cooked slightly softer. The board left us stuffed but happy, and unless you have a big appetite I'd recommend sharing the board between more than 2 people. The drinks were also delicious. Pity we had no room for a dessert. But there's always next time! Finally, our server was attentive and friendly — thank you for working late on Christmas Eve to look after us! Thank you, Tomahawk, for this nice dinner for our anniversary, we will definitely be returning.

Myself and my partner were greeted on arrival by friendly staff and seated in a comfy booth. We were served quickly and the staff were so accommodating. The food choice was brilliant and reasonably priced. The food was amazing and portions were generous. We had three courses and the desserts were to die for! The cocktails were some of the best we have ever had…we had five cocktails each and loved all of them. The atmosphere was also great! I couldn’t fault this restaurant and will definitely be returning again! One of the best restaurants I have ever been to!

Lovely place just off the main thoroughfare. Sat outside around lunchtime and enjoyed some cocktails. Great range to choose from and although we didn't eat, the menu looked great and it also had a good range of options. Staff were very professional whilst maintaining a very friendly manor. Would recommend this place all day long. Went back the next day for food. Wasn't disappointed at all. Ate off the set menu and the food was superb. Owen was our waiter and he was excellent.

Went here for my 70th Birthday. What a treat! Staff were amazing and greeted me with a flute of champagne complete with raspberry. We were a party of 4 and we settled on 2 shared platters. Four cuts of beef presented beautifully. The side dishes were very good. The photo is taken obviously before we got stuck in otherwise they would only be a completely empty board to show! Treated to cake after the meal on the house. Wine and cocktails were fabulous. Definitely going back again.

This is a lovely steak restaurant in central York. We ordered the steak board which includes a variety of cuts and comes with four sides, and a bottle of wine. The service was lovely and the tables were reasonably spaced. Definitely would recommend :)

We popped in for some late cheeky drinks in the cocktail lounge. After walking through the restaurant we wished we hadn’t of eaten earlier as the food looked sublime!! Service was spot on, the guy behind the bar was very friendly and professional, our drinks were ace too. Overall a nice slick cocktail lounge to enjoy drinks. Tables are a little low but then that’s part of the design I guess. Even the toilets are interesting!! Proper old “Thomas Crapper” toilets used which just add a nice final detail to it all. Not that I usually comment on the toilets but worth a mention I feel haha. Top effort.

What an amazing experience! The atmosphere from walking in to leaving was tangible. My fiancé and I visited as an engagement celebration and had a great time. The young serving team brought an energetic buzz to the restaurant. Riley our server was a true professional, he moved around the restaurant like skating on ice, if you've seen Ratatouille and the server is on skates, it was like that. He was attentive and confident of his knowledge of the dishes when we asked. The restaurant is an amazing space that is a must experience. As always I'd recommend you book to avoid disappointment as it was very busy when we arrived. A great place for group celebrations or date night.

The edges was nice and crispy but the meat in the middle was melt in your mouth and there is a wide variety of sides instead of just the usual chios that other places offer. The meat is very good quality and quantity. We ordered the sharing platter for two. Nice and helpful staff. The only bad thing is that there are no healthy supplements, everything has excessive butter or spicy. The very spicy broccoli, the potatoes with a raft of butter, the peas with lots of cream... they are not bad but you cannot choose a healthier option in case you want it. It does not seem right to me that they obligatorily include an additional cost of the service since it should be voluntary to choose if you have had a good service or not and give the tip based on your criteria, not imposing it on you.

The staff at Tomahawk Steakhouse York are a joy and are either genuinely happy to be there or incredibly good actors which made the night even more special. As a table of 6 we had a collection of Wagyu and non-wagyu steaks in different cuts (rump, ribeye, and sirloin) and all were divine, cut like butter, melt in your mouth, fantastic. Two of us got the Wagyu sharing platter which was beautiful. We took half of it home so it worked out being good value for money too (4 meals)... Perfect if you've got four of you to share. They were upfront and said they had run out of the Wagyu fillet steaks so we exchanged that for sirloin. You can imagine our blue-rare loving selves when we were shocked when the most tender, beautiful piece of meat was the rump! Although this does not mean the other cuts were far off. The ONLY complaint of the evening, is that the Mac and cheese was a let down. It was plain pasta with cheese on top, not mac and cheese at all and rather bland. The asparagus was incredible, creamy mushrooms delectable and the truffle fries were pretty good. The cocktails were insanely good and we collectively recommend the raspberry and elderflower mojito and the cosmopolitans. We will be going again. P.S. try the Jack Daniels barbecue sauce for the best sauce of your life.

Went here for a meal with my wife and son very nice dining area ect. However its a steak house that forgets to give you a steak knife forgets the mustard and when you remind them brings the wrong one. Okay we all have off days. But what got under my skin was when I was given the bill a 10% service charge had been added but wait I had the option to remove it how about giving me the option not to have it added for a start. If they want to make 10% more add it to price on the menu. Call me old school but I feel this is a shifty way of doing business.

The £8 chocolate bomb desert was poor value as there was little to it other than a blob of ice cream in a chocolate shell. It was the service that really let the meal down. We were rushed to order starters and drinks the moment we entered the restraunt, the waitress wasn't welcoming and seemed disnterested in serving us and the cutlery was dumped in the middle of the table. A shame because most of the food was good however welcoming and friendly service is half the meal so I wouldn't return or recommend it to others.

We ordered the tomahawk steak with parmesan truffle fries, chunky chips, and roasted tomato and mushroom. The steak was fantastic. However, the sides left a lot to be desired unfortunately. None of them were cooked very well, and they were a major let down. We then had the chocolate fondant, which was also really disappointing as it was cooked through so didn't ooze when cut into as it should. The plates had a slice of wood printed onto them and the whole decor in general was very kitschy. Overall, good for steak, but don't order anything else! I won't be rushing back, especially given Miller and Carter will soon be opening right next door. This place is going to struggle in comparison, which is a real shame as it could be so much better than it is. Getting the steak right isn't easy, and they've done this, so why let it down by the decor and the add on's?

The Tomahawk sharing platter was excellent. The steak was perfectly done, and the sides were flavourful. Special shout-out to the halloumi / chorizo starter which hit the spot, and the espresso martini which was amongst the best I’ve had in York. Whatever else you do, leave room for this dessert: it is chocolate perfection.

Came here for my 40th birthday what an awsome place ! 1st drink on the house which was a nice surprise, we were waited on by Riley, who was superb! Polite and couldn't do enough for us. We went for the Tamohawk main to share, with 4 sides, the sides were so good this is what sets this place out from the rest! All in all a fantastic meal, best I've had in a long time!! Will definitely return in the future.

We order and sharing board and some side dishes. The doneness of the steak was prefect. I like the gravy source, too. Four different steaks, sirloin, ribeye, flat iron and fillet. There was more than enough, the beef was amazing and the platter was huge. Good selection of side that are supplied with the platter. Excellent value for money and would 100% recommend. Patrick who served us was very attentive, excellent service and a great ambassador for the restaurant. Would definitely come back!

Great selection of superbly cooked steaks on a range of budgets, even their cheapest is a perfectly fine steak and their top end is British Wagyu, not widely available and a truly succulent cut. Tricky one this, as I need to be honest. Potentially this looked very promising, lovely venue, good looking menu. Unfortunately we had some problems with some of the dishes which spoiled things. Most of the food was great, that needs to be said, service was good, staff were friendly, and importantly, problems were resolved quickly and professionally, both in replacement dishes and a significant reduction in the bill - without asking. So hopefully a one off bad experience. That apart, I did think that the food was a little overpriced for what it was, but we saw the menu before visiting so were prepared for that. Visited Tomahawk York 16/09 for my birthday meal treat from my husband. Lovely venue and lovely decor. There was so much to choose from on the menu but we settled for the sharing board at a very reasonable £60 which included 4 side dishes. The steaks were amazing, cooked to our liking and very little fatty bits. The service was amazing and our waiter, Michael, was an absolute delight. I have never encountered someone who was truly involved in our experience. He was very engaging with our children and put them at ease as they were shy at ordering themselves and even made little jokes and had them giggling. A true gentleman and a absolute asset to the venue. We will definitely be returning!

We were in the second floor very back of the restaurant, second table from the right if you are looking from the behind bar. From 18:00 hours 31/05/21) Thank you so much to the young lady who made our evening great. As servers go, in my personal and professional opinion, she was excellent! Not overbearing, polite and unfaltering. There was never an occasion were we needed to turn or look for the attention of any of the colleagues, she just appeared at the appropriate moment. The thing that I found most awe inspiring about her was her upsell super power, it was almost as if she was doing me a favour.... Fantastic sales!

I can’t fault the food or the service, however if you’re concerned about Covid I don’t recommend you visit. It’s almost as if the global crippling pandemic wasn’t even occurring. No one asked us to check in via the NHS app, and only one of 10+ staff wore a mask. If I managed a restaurant I’d perhaps ask if you’d like your serving staff to wear a mask. Instead, we had 5-6 different waiters leaning over our table essentially breathing in our faces. Whether masks are now mandatory or not is or irrelevant. The food was excellent, and the service aside from the Covid issues was good, but I’m afraid the lack of awareness to the current situation was quite alarming.

The portahouse just seemed to lack flavour and even though it was ordered medium seemed a bit tough going. The sirloin was ordered well done but seemed to just lack something. The pepper corn sauce was watery and just too peppery. Even the fries just seemed to lack something it felt like things are done rushed and on the cheap. The saving grace was the desserts turned out to be very nice. With a number of very good steak restaurants close by we will not be returning to Tomahawk any time soon

Came here for lunch last week with my husband after seeing that it was open. Food was good and the flat iron steak was spot on with great flavour's! The reason I havent given 5 stars is because of the sides. I ordered a side of the beer batter onion ring and when they came I got 4 yes 4! I have been to many other places where for the same price you get alot more!! I would go back but just wouldn't order any sides.
