As a family we were advised by Social Work to start to view care homes for my Gran who has Alzheimer’s, the majority of our family had cared for my Gran at home over the 4 years from diagnosis and after an illness we were devastated that this was now the recommendation. As a Staff Nurse in Dementia Care I was already aware of the process but as a family the process can be very daunting. Rannoch Lodge was the last home in the Cumbernauld area that we viewed, their Care Inspectorate Review and grading was also the best out of all Cumbernauld homes and was impressive. We visited the home unannounced and from the second we walked through the door we were made to feel very welcome. The activities coordinator who gave us the initial tour was extremely friendly and informative, she did say she loved her job and to us this was very evident! The facilities, food, activities looked great. There was a happy homely atmosphere. The residents appeared happy. We then got to meet the Manager who was very pleasant and informative and explained the next steps in the process if we were to go ahead with the placement. Unlike the other homes we left feeling very happy with what we seen and felt that my Gran would also be happy here!! Before the entry date my parents were able to go in and decorate her room with her belongs, all the staff introduced themselves without being prompted, offered them lunch and made them feel at home!! My Gran immediately looked at Home, she appeared comfortable and content. On her first day alone she was able to be part in the in-house Mass and take part in the session from the local visiting Primary School, my Gran was immediately in her element and her needs are already being met - as a family you can’t ask for much more in this predicament! Sometimes people like to focus on trivial matters within care homes like laundry issues but fail to actually see if their family members are happy, we may be at the start of our families journey within the Care home environment but so far so good!! Well Done Rannoch Lodge staff, please continue with your hard work!!

Visited this nursing home a few times throughout the years as they have had community events on. I have taken my young niece along and all staff where very friendly and welcoming. They involved all residents with every activity and all were very happy and enjoying the events.
