Reviews of Stanwell Rest Home

A very dear friend of mine was recently looking for a care home for a relative of hers and I recommended Stanwell Rest Home as an elderly aunt of mine had been resident there for many years. My aunt peacefully passed away a while ago.
My friend later informed me of the adverse reviews on the website. I read those reviews with some dismay. I had visited my aunt at Stanwell on many occasions and always found the home to have a warm and homely atmosphere with plenty of activities. My aunt was very happy to be where she was and said she was extremely well cared for by cheerful and helpful staff.
The bad reviews about treatment, scalding, thieving staff etc all seem to have been put on about the same time.
My friend decided to make some enquiries with Southampton City Council Social Services Department. They could not, of course, discuss any specific case but they were absolutely certain that if a resident of a care home were admitted to hospital and there was evidence of scalding on their body, the hospital would immediately refer the matter to the 'Safeguarding Team' of Southampton City Council Social Services department, which would investigate and take action against the home if there were evidence of wrongdoing by the home. In the same way, if they received a complaint about poor care and theft from residents, it would immediately be investigated.
We visited the home ourselves and asked questions and it appears that any complaints that had been made against the home had been investigated and found to be completely groundless.
I would invite anyone who is thinking of placing a relative there to contact Southampton City Council Social Services department and ask if there are any outstanding complaints or action being taken against Stanwell Rest Home.
I think you will find the answer is a most definite no.

I have done a lot of maintenance work at this rest home over the past few years & I cannot speak highly enough for the care & attentiveness I see given to the residents every time I work here.
I would have no problem in any of my relatives residing here.
I really don’t understand any of the negative reviews that have been put on here & can only assume that there is an ulterior motive involved.
