M. v. K.December 2020 – Ridgeway Rise and Covid-19. That the residents (my mother included) have come through the coronavirus pandemic thus far, so well and safely is a credit to all members, without exception, of the Ridgeway Rise staff. Their continued good health and well-being has come about through no less than a concerted, focused whole team effort. There has been clear and regular communication to families throughout and, despite the pressures and responsibility on the staff, everything possible has been done to let family members remain in contact with their loved ones while still ensuring their safety. However, restrictions have meant that residents are more dependent on the staff for their social and mental well-being. Again, the personnel have risen to the occasion. The activities team are amazing, creative and imaginative. And everyone is included - the residents who want to join in do so at whatever level they enjoy and the carers are on hand supporting and sharing in the fun. The hairdresser does a fabulous job. Birthdays are celebrated with candles and Cakes with a capital C. The cleaners too, deserve their spot in the limelight. Throughout it all the skilled nurses and carers continue their work with compassion and importantly, with respect for the individual characters of the residents under their care. It is a team effort. (To be fair, all this went on pandemic or not) I am grateful for and appreciative of a team who seem to me to be doing their job with heart and soul. Of course there are always ‘even better if’ points. For the moment, given the present circumstances with its extreme workload and stresses they are minor problems. I am simply happy in the knowledge that my mother is safe, well and content in a lovely environment and looked after by people who truly care and take pride in doing their jobs.
