P. F.My mum came to stay here for respite after a heart operation, and the care, commitment and attention to detail were second to none. Beautiful surroundings that feel more like a hotel, and the room my mum had felt like a small apartment, but it is the quality of care that is the really amazing thing.
Super-friendly and personal across the board, the staff went out of their way to see that my mum was settled, comfortable and happy. Good range of quality food and entertainment, including day trips out in the minibus.
My mum was skeptical of how she would adapt to life in a care home, but she loved every minute of it!
The Shelley has been rated 'Outstanding' by CQC in all 5 categories - and it's not hard to see why. Bearing all this in mind, it is one of the lowest priced homes providing comparable care of those I am aware of in the area which is staggering!
J. D.It is hard to explain about The Shelley difference. As soon as you cross the threshold it hits you. This is a residential care home like no other. The residents and staff are all one big happy extended family. It is like a grand hotel but also is comfortable like an old pair of slippers. The food is excellent and you will soon find your clothes a little tighter. The rooms are all individual and residents are encouraged to bring their own treasures with them which makes it truly home from home. Whether you are on a respite stay or making The Shelley your new Home you will be showered with love and made to feel welcome from your first day. We love nothing more than getting together in the lounge for a diary of fabulous entertainment. We also love our afternoon trips out for tea and cake when the conversation flows and laughter and memories are shared. If you need company or the confidence of knowing that someone is there for you day and night come and see for yourself. Our respite guests return again and again. Then when the time comes they already know which room they would like to be their own. I love being at The Shelley and although it is my job it seldom feels like it. The Care is second to none and it is the people that make it a home.
M. H.This outstanding care home is so welcoming to everyone who enters whether they are coming to stay for respite, move in perminantly, visit a resident or take part in an activity. Instantly you notice a relaxed friendly atmosphere, the surroundings are grand yet homely and comfortable and staff and residents alike are always happy, smiling and having fun.
If you are unable to stay in your own home any longer, The Shelley is the next best place as it truly is a home from home.
There is no other care home quite like The Shelley, highly recommend.
S.This review was written for the home when the owner and manager who started the home were in charge. Mid 2020 the home changed hands and I have no knowledge of how it is now. .....
There is nothing more that can be said to praise The Shelley Care Home that has not already been said.
It is the only “Outstanding” care home in Worthing from 2015 to date and was previously, but also that ever since opening has been given the highest rating at each inspection.
It can be thought that once you are the highest rating then it is easy to keep however, to maintain such a high standard over so many years means that the staff interviewing system, their ongoing training, respect from the managers and colleagues, plus of course the love of the job and caring for residents and making them feel individual and important, is what keeps the standard so high.
Managers have recently been trying to get staff to record “Above and Beyond” things they do for the residents. Most feel they cannot do this saying “It is just something I do” or “I feel like I am boasting” or “it is not above and beyond, just caring” etc.
A very few examples of “just doing my job” follow (names removed):
"Resident A said as part of her wish day that she would really like to see a tortoise so a member of staff brought one in for her to hold and have for a little while in her room. Resident A was a little reluctant to hold it at first but after we gave her a cushion to put on her lap, she was happy to hold it."
"While making a Spanish omelette at home, I remembered that Resident B said she loved them. I made one for her and brought it in today - she was very happy."
"Resident C complimented me on a necklace that I was wearing and said she had had a similar one years ago. I found a similar one and bought it as s gift for Resident C to make her happy."
"Staff Chef came in early this morning as Resident D had requested bacon and eggs for her birthday breakfast and she likes an early breakfast."
"Yesterday Resident E mentioned to me that her favourite flowers are roses so I went to the shops before work this morning and brought a bunch of red and a bunch of yellow roses. She was very happy and thanked me when I gave them to her."
To me, the above and all the positive feedback says it all.

I have never written a review before but am proud to make this my first for this marvellous establishment.
My mother told me that 'Life has begun at 86, she was so lonely at home on her own before and now she has friends.' I have never seen her looking so well and happy.

J. L.This home is the only home in Worthing rated outstanding by CQC the Care Quality Commission and it certainly deserves this rating. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped. Many of the ground floor rooms open onto the garden. The food is excellent. The staff are friendly and very helpful, nothing is too much effort. It really is worth a visit to see how good it is for yourself.
J. R.My Aunt Rosemary stayed there. The staff were excellent -very caring and friendly, the food was very good and guests of people in residence are welcome. Cheerful surroundings and the staff are mainly nurses-so wonderful help.
I would recommend it for any aged personal who needs respite care.
